4 stars for the lounge. Best place to go if you find yourself in the LES with no where to rest your feet. Grab a drink, (bring the AMEX)  sit in front of the fire and relax.
Garden patio is inviting, very appropriate for almost all seasons.

3 Stars for the rooms. Rooms are a tad larger than some NYC rooms with excellent views. Well more like large windows. Tastefully outfitted.

To state the obvious:
1. Fab, fab, fab location, but you can see that for yourself on the map.
2. $425 a night, ouch.
3. Retro-neuvo-boho-chic.

The not so obvious:
1. Windows that open, a true luxury.
2.  Minibar I actually wanted to eat out of.
3.  Toiletries I loved and tried to purchase more of.

The bad:
1. For some reason my room was much smaller than my friend's.  Why?  Rooms seem to really vary, as you read below, some have tubs, some don't, some are bigger, some aren't, so I would really have a dialogue with them when you check in.  My friend and I paid the same price and had quite different rooms.
2.   In my room, deadbolt on door did not work.  TV did not work (and yes I called the front desk to have someone come up and fix it--it wasn't just my being inept).   Room was too hot despite turning A/C to maximum.   These flaws were rather surprising at these prices.

I still had a nice time.

I heart it..... It ranks up there and I have stayed at almost every hotel.

Best breakfast, great lounge, retro style.... as mentioned by a lot of peeps....

But I like the old school Noveau /British manor vibe and it beats the over sterile UBER chic look of most high-end NYC hotels...

GREAT SHEETS! cozy cozy

Well, I only come here for the bar, the lounge and now, perhaps, the rooftop.

So this review is for the above-mentioned, although maybe I'll stay here one day when I want to pretend to be a mysterious tourist.

The lounge outback is really sweet - a laid back, colonial feel to it, over-looking a surprising expanse of verdure in one of the more densely developed areas in the city. I found out that it was a potter's field and hence cannot be developed at the moment, which is great because it provides the illusion of being out somewhere in the country as opposed to on Bowery.

The drinks are fantastic, expensive, but sip and sit and you'll feel like you've paid well for the drink. Or just paid well over what you're used to. (ha!)
.
.
.
.
About 2 weeks ago, my brother found out that they were opening up their rooftop to revelers and sent me the "password". I promptly dragged my foreign friends (visiting from Dubai) here to check out the space and possibly wow them. Possibly is the key word here.

*I* was impressed - the rooftop is fantastic, it has this Victorian atrium feel to it, with a large outdoor patio and open space. I would love to rent this place for a large event, but not sure what occasion would warrant such a large price tag.

The crowd was odd, but the space, the atmosphere and the night was beautiful. If I get a hold of another password, I'd love to come back.

i adore this hotel.  i could live at the Bowery.  i bathe when i get up and when i come back from my many adventures in NY, a little wet rat in the most lovely bath tub ever.  heaven.  what i love about the Bowery:

1. the sheets
2. current, interesting magazines in the room when i arrive
3. the superb bigelow toiletries, stocked daily
4.  the hot doormen that are so polite and their devilish grins
5.  the best bath tub in new york.  you must request this
6. you can take a cool, red bike anytime of the day
7.  room service are gracious about my picky requests
8.  having drinks outside, surrounded by lush green plants
9.  the free wifi
10. minutes away from the subway

Great hotel, very romantic.  Dark wood and firm mattresses!
Incredibly friendly and helpful front desk.  From "I left my room key in the room" to suggestions for local art galleries, could not be friendlier.
Yes, my wife agrees that the doormen are hot (and nice, too).
The rooms aren't huge (but Manhattan ones rarely are). Some are larger than others, and we thought ours was more than fine.
We really appreciated the fresh cookies every day!

Last summer I decided to take a trip to NY. I was meant to stay with a friend, but that didn't pan out so well so i ended up hotel hopping for the next few days. The other hotels i stayed at are not even worth mentioning, but on my last night i ended up here at The Bowery. Oh man.

I walked in tired and hot and was greeted by an adorable wannabe model bellboy. After composing myself, i focused on the interior of the lobby, cute and simple with a slight air of pretension. The girl at the front desk was super nice and told me they had given me a corner room but it wasn't ready yet (for reals, always request the corner room) so i strolled around the block and familiarized myself with the area. When i returned i got my key and headed up. Seriously, the best hotel room i've ever stayed in, and not to toot my own horn, but i've stayed in some none too shabby hotels. The views were almost panoramic and the tub was heaven!

I really loved my stay here and would love the opportunity to stay here again. I am docking a star for a)being so expensive and b)the recommendation of the woman at reception to go to Bond Street Sushi for dinner, yuck.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed here. The difference is that we had Lauren with us. But we still had an awesome experience. Beautiful NY skyline views, great hospitality and a great location. We were pretty much walking distance to so many things.
Definitely one of the places we'll always come back to.

I love, LOVE this hotel.  It is welcoming and very cozy.  A great place to seek solitude in a space that is bigger than my 4x4 shoebox apartment.  The fireplace sold me, as I would curl up in a cushy armchair with a good book sipping on an Old Fashioned.  I would pretend this was my living room but with lots of strangers around me having idle conversation from time to time. Great place to meet friends for a drink with an endless tray of nuts as appetizers.  This is a great place to seek refuge during those torrential rainstorms and wait until the storm passes.  I highly recommend coming here with a board game of scrabble to spend a lazy afternoon.

The Bowery Hotel gets packed during Fashion Week and the rooftop is reserved for private events.  This is a fun place to people watch and catch a glimpse of someone famous walking through the lobby.

first time staying at the bowery hotel and I would go back again in a heart beat. the downstairs bar/lounge is comfortable and warm, the outside patio charming, staff is friendly (doormen!) and the room simple but very well done. easy access to NoHo/Soho, the Village & LES and of course delicious restaurants. if you want modern and swanky ~ this isn't your place but if you want to have that feeling you've returned home, i say book a room.

Live in the area, so i can't say I've stayed here, although had drinks last night after dinner in the neighborhood, and was impressed.  The ambiance is cool, laid back and a great place to come with friends to hang out.  Only downside, is that you cant sit in the lounge area unless you are a guest of the hotel, and the drink the bartender recommended, some spice thing (which was yummy but too sweet for me) was $17.  yes, $17.  I know I know, I should know this cause I live in NYC, but dayum.

I cannot believe I have walked past the Bowery Hotel probably 100 times without ever realizing that it was actually there, especially as I have a frenemy who thinks Gemma (the restaurant) is the best known place in the universe. I don't agree with her, but I was incredibly pleasantly surprised by the scene the other night.

We sat in the surprisingly huge upstairs bar/lounge/patio area and the weather was perfect and it wasn't overcrowded and the level of obnoxiousness was strikingly low. I loved the decoration of the place; it reminded me very strongly of hotels I have stayed in in Spain and Colombia and makes for a striking contrast with the very plain exterior.

Two notes of caution, though. Firstly, and unsurprisingly, it is quite expensive, though the prosecco we were drinking was unusually delicious for bar sparkly. Secondly, we went on a Monday night, so the crowd/scene that I dreaded was perhaps much thinner than it probably is at the weekend.

A GREAT small hotel. Old world intimacy, comfortable beds and linens, new tiled baths, skyline views from the room.  The lobby is beautifully paneled with fireplace and comfy old chairs and couches, free WiFi and library quiet during the day but busy and fun when it changes to a bar in the evenings.  Adjacent restaurant easy to get to by the back hallway.  Friendly and welcoming staff, valet parking if needed.  Truly a wonderful small hotel - probably the best one - for this part of Manhattan, my favorite part.  I'm coming back.

Stayed here for a few nights recently and had a really mixed experience. I have to say...the morning front desk is pretty awful. Really unprofessional and their attitude was the last thing I wanted to deal with after a red-eye flight. Their afternoon and evening front desk staff, however, are exceptional and really went above and beyond to assist me during my stay.
The rooms are, in my opinion, small...even for New York...and for some reason very DUSTY! The WiFi in the room was also extremely slow. The bathroom was quite nice though and I loved the C.O. Bigelow toiletries.

Well intentioned but not perfect.

Loved the linens.  Loved the Bigelow products.  Loved the old school charm.

Awful service (but not really unexpected given the boutique expectations that I have come to have- but really, at least pretend to give a damn about me).  Definitely a small-ish room.  Good restaurant that proved surprisingly easy to get into with no notice.

As an aside, my boss stayed here for days when they first opened and there was no water in the building.  I would have died.  They sent them down the street to some spa for their daily showers.

The Bowery is a (fairly) new, intimate luxury hotel. The old school decor was warm and inviting.  The room was spacious, with floor to ceiling windows, an incredibly comfy bed, and pretty good products in the bathroom.  Ask for a corner room with a bathtub.  You'll thank me.  The bar is cool, and you are very likely to spot an Olsen twin.

The door guys are very "ahem" useful.

The Bowery is a cute, charming and hip downtown hotel located in a perfect location for East Village, LES and SoHo jaunts.

The room was not huge but still on the larger side for NYC standards (compared to SoHo Grand, W, Rivington, etc.).  I had a great view looking North towards midtown/Empire State Building.  Very quiet up there on the upper floors.

The staff were super cool.  Whomever parks their pretty vintage Bianchi conversion near the street out front:  nice bike.

The bed was super duper cozy, high threadcount weave and memory foam mattress and pillows.

The bathroom was great.  Elaborate tiling and the shower was a tall person's dream, water came out from a spout near the 12 foot cielings and tumbled delicately to the floor.  They had really nice bath products, I'm sure a female would be able to tell you how nice they are.

I never checked out the bar or the restaurant as I was eating, dining, drinking elsewhere but loved the proximity and location.

Entertainment wise:  free Wi-Fi, ipod dock stereo and decent flat screen were all a nice touch.

Recently opened (not fully at time of my visit in March - so got special "preview" rate) in an excellent location in NYC for bars, restaurants and clubs.

500 thread count cotton sheets - WTF? I hadn't a clue what this meant when I booked. But now I do! Luxurious (read expensive!) and very soft sheets; finishing touches like this really made the stay.

Room was superb - we got a corner room - with a huge bath and really comfy bed.

View of the city was good too - with no-one looking in.

I will return, even though the price will shoot up when fully open (restaurant etc. expected end April 07).

Let me preface by saying that I would trade this place for CBGB's still standing in a heartbeat. Not that it is on the hallowed Bowery site that used to be CBGB...but the advent of a luxury hotel on the BOWERY in a building that undoubtedly was an SRO, on top of losing CBs a few years ago... just adds to the ickiness that is gentrification.

On the other hand, apparently I can be bought, because I needed a hotel I could afford downtown, and I was told that the Bowery was nice.

First of all.....it's a bit different from your usual boutique hotel. They are working an 1800's thing here, meaning hefty bronze keys with tassels, doormen in bowler hats, and dark, slow, old-seeming elevators. It doesn't seem luxury at first glance.
However, the rooms are an ok size with great floor-to-ceiling windows; the service is very nice; beds are extremely comfortable; room service is excellent; and the lobby is full of old overstuffed couches and reading material.

Problem: at night the lobby becomes a super-packed bar that apparently is happening, although the crowd seems middle-aged and not very downtown. As a hotel guest you will get fawned upon and receive a table...but only AFTER they realize you're a guest, therefore AFTER receiving the supercilious gaze and raised eyebrow asking exactly what you think you are doing walking into the bar?  (This WILL get its own review...never fear.)

I'll stay here again as the location rocks and the vibe, bar excepted, is pretty cool.

The hotel has  a very old European charming feeling.  Once you walk in, I loved the intimate feeling of a smaller boutique hotel rather than a sterile larger chain hotel.

GREAT LOCATION - 5 min from SOHO - 5 min from Wholefoods - 5 min from the subway - 5 min from East Village etc., but there are always some sketchy characters (drugged up) loitering right next door.  Either walk around with a friend or directly across the street then cross directly where the hotel is.  One guy reached out and touched me on the arm one night - I was going to yell and scream, but when I turned around to look at him, he was clearly not here on earth with us.

AMENITIES - awesome silky linens, down comforter and pillows.  It was like sleepy in a big cloud.  Bathroom goodies - Bigelow peppermint lavender shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, and lotion.  Additionally, there was a body scrub, plush towels, robes, and individually wrapped q-tips from japan.

ROOM - great window, loved the marble bath with the waterfall shower head.

Ok, I have told you all the good and now with the bad:

1.We arrived with 6-7 bags and clearly struggling with them, but there was no doorman in sight and there were no automated doors, just simple old push and pull doors.  We checked in and there was still no doorman nor anyone to help us with the bags.

2. Arrive in the room and it's stinkin' hot in there - the AC was turned off.  We turned it on and two hours later, I was still sweatin' a storm.  In addition to that, in the bathroom above the toilet, water was dripping on my head (I didn't want to even think where the hell that water was coming from).  We call front desk and instead of switching out of our room immediately, they made us wait for someone to come up and diagnose the problem.  They are fixed, the room begins to cool, we leave for dinner, we come back and it's stinkin' hot again.  We call down and the entire hotel's system is down for 4-5 hours.  At this point we really wanted to leave, but since we had so much baggage we decided to stick it out.  I was just surprised nothing was done for the guests such as a free bottle of sparkling/still water to make us more comfortable during the internal heat wave.

3. Friday afternoon, I had the "do not disturb" sign because I was going to be in the room resting after a long two nights before (being displaced after the steam pipe explosion and residing in the frozen zone).  I got one call downstairs waking me up from my nap, asking me about the sign and if I wanted anyone to come up to tidy the room.  I understood it was just a courtesy call and politely declined and went back to bed.  Two hours later in deep slumber I get another call about the same question!!  They need to get their sh*t straight downstairs, there's a reason why people use the "do not disturb" sign - LEAVE ME ALONE.

4. Last day there and we got an extension for a later check-out (1PM instead of 12PM).  We got a call at 12:15PM asking us if we were staying another day - her passive aggressive way of asking "hello, why the f*** are you not gone yet?" I was annoyed and told the woman that I got an extension till 1.  See, another issue with getting the details sorted...argh!

5. We still had 6-7 bags plus now a gianormous box (33lbs) full of crap that we needed to ship home.  We called down asking for assistance with our bags.  A guy shows up with no cart.  He notices all the bags and says "sorry, when I asked the front desk if you would need a cart, the front desk said you were only here for only two days, so I wouldn't need a cart."  We ended up carrying down the 33lb box ourselves and left the guy behind with our bags.  Ridiculous!

6.  Staff are always dawdling, gossiping with clearly nothing to do.  As a guest I don't want to see staff lingering around the front desk.  Go do something, pretend to be busy.

7.  Overall design:  Looks aesthetically pleasing and well thought out in that aspect, but in terms of functionality Bowery hotel gets zero points. First, the door to the room - be careful, you can lose a finger the way it's designed.  You have to use a lot of force to close the door both inside and outside and if you are not careful, your finger could get caught in between this lip (they added to the door by the doorknob) and the door.  Second, the front doors in the lobby do not have a revolving door or automated push/pull doors to ease your way in or maybe they thought the doorman would solve that problem (if they are ever there!!) and it's way too narrow.

All in all, I loved the charm and the location, but at close to $400 a pop a night and not including tax, it wasn't worth all the pain and suffering I went through.  Maybe 60 Thompson or Mercer hotel next time.

Better than Library Hotel!  It's beautiful, the detail in the rooms is amazing.  Never been to the rooftop but the restaurant Gemma is a feast for the eyes.  I LOVE their bathrooms but I was in a queen deluxe.  The bathroom was HUGE.  FABULOUSLY huge.  If you get one with a tub, you can fit 2 in.  Toiletries top shelf and the rainshower separate from tub makes this bathroom one of the largest I've seen (and I've stayed at  A LOT of 5 star hotels).  Beds were uber comfy and the french windows open out.  I don't love a lot of hotels and I LOVE this one.  It's new but designed to look elegantly old which I personally love.  The hotel is able to do wonders for neighborhood dinner reservations if you ask them - they can pull a lot of strings there as I discovered :)

My sister was on a business trip and I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks with her in The Bowery away from my lovely apartment across the river in Brooklyn - I find Manhattan to be a place of sheer amusement and figured spending some time on the island would be interesting.  The Bowery is in a great location - I could get anywhere easily.  The bedrooms were so nice and the beds were SO COMFORTABLE!  They had nice televisions and the bathrooms were AWESOME!  The showerheads came out of the ceiling and I felt strangely clean after each shower.  They supply the rooms with C.O. Bigelow tolietries which smelled divine and are quite expensive....considering the room was around 600/night I wouldn't expect anything less.  This hotel is slightly pretentious in decor and the staff were helpful but, again, slightly pretentious.  $35 for a hamburger!!!! (room service includes a $3 delivery fee, 18% gratuity included in the bill) - The minibar is so delicious but ridiculously expensive!!! Go here if you want to splurge your brains out on the LES.  It was close to everything and was completely fun - good thing my sister's company picked up the bill! I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much should I have been paying :)
