ok this review is really for their specials that they have on monday and tuesday nights....29.00 for a very nice salad, a selection of italian style dinners and a bottle of wine......and pleasant service....what's not to like, oh the meals are not huge but they are just fine and nicely cooked, the wine was good (not a gourmand here) and i noticed that if you had a diner the same wine was 25.00......so a really great deal in a nice little (they are expanding and adding outside seating) restaurant....ps also has a nice bar area.

We ate at the bootlegger tonight and it was awful. First, we were seated in the basement. The upstairs restaurant looked nice, but the basement, well, its the basement, and off the basement is a dingy storage room that cooks were constantly accessing.
We got a veal and salmon dish. Both were disgustingly salty. The veal was a junk cut and tenderized to about 1/8". The breading was thicker than the meal. The noodles were unevenly cooked and the general look of the plate wasn't pleasing. The salmon was nicely plated, but it too was salty and not worth eating. -

I've been to bootlegger several times and on each trip, it seems to vary wildly. The first time I had their lasagna, it became a favorite so when I went again, it was what I chose to have. It ended up being a huge disappointment. It was luke warm with ladles of sauce poured over top. Yuck. I barely touched it and just didn't feel like sending it back. The fried calamari appetizer we've had a couple of times and although it seems to be different each time, we've been satisfied with it on each occasion. The mushroom ravioli (so far) has been one dish that my partner continues to get and it has never let us down. With that being said, The Bootlegger really seems to be a hit or miss place to try. With so many other restaurant options, I don't think I'd go out of my to eat here. If I'm in the area, I'd still be willing to stop in and give them a try if I'm in the mood for Italian.

We took our mothers out for lunch yesterday and wanted something fancier than Slattery's. Based on the nice reviews here, we decided to give Bootlegger a try -- big mistake.
The "dinner salad" was lame and had more overdone croutons than greens. The buffalo wings we mushy with think breading that fell off when you ate them. The mothers both ordered broiled seafood which came out with white bread crumbs. I asked my mother if is was underdone and she said the fish was overcooked and dry. My wife had the Mushroom Raviolis and said they were too rich with cream and butter to eat. The service was great.
Should have gone to Slattery's. -

I love to eat. I'm Italian. I love good food. I love a great atmosphere in which to enjoy that good food. Well at the Bootlegger, I found GREAT food and a GREAT atmosphere in which to enjoy!
Each and every time I have been to the BOOTLEGGER, my meal has been fantastic! Finest in quality taste and portion size. From the fresh bread baked at the restaurant, Mama Gloria's red sauce(which I'd drink with a straw), the amazing rice ball apps, to the desserts, of which I've had MANY! I've NEVER had a bad or even just a so-so meal here.
In addition to the food, I speak highly of Alan the owner and his staff. Always welcoming and making you feel at home. (Hope you get to meet Mama Gloria!)
I've eaten in both the main dinning room as well as at the bar. The main room is looking even better with the latest renovations! What I have enjoyed about the bar is that even if you are dining alone, you feel like you are in good company, from being well taken care of by the bartender, to the others sitting at the bar. (people are actually friendly and will engage you in conversation) I felt very comfortable. In addition, if it's your thing, you can play KENO and perhaps win money to cover your check!
They are currently doing renovations (new booths, lighting etc...) and are open.
If I lived closer, I'd be there every week, as it's the BEST restaurant in the area!
While writing this, I'm thinking about their food and am now insanely hungry! Franchise?? :) -

First time experiencing the Bootlegger Restaurant. Good little place that I wouldn't have know about had my friend's husband not told me. Said friend then dragged me there. Good choice.
Busy Saturday night but not so busy that we had to wait for a table. Sat down at a two top in the bar section. They seem to be doing some sort of renovations on the outside of the restaurant so there was a strange entrance near our table. The door wouldn't shut at times and it was chilly.
My friend and I ordered drinks and waited for the warm bread to come (which they serve with an herbed oil and roasted garlic.) Our waitress took our order promptly (I had the gnocchi with meatball) and my friend had the roma parm risotto, both of which were very tasty!
There were two negatives though. 1.) Our waitress disappeared for good spans of time and when we needed refills was no where to be found. 2.) the house salads were atrocious. Wilted lettuce and soggy tomatoes are not good food. -

I was desperate for a decent place to eat near route 2. The mall restaurants were out. And, I refuse to go to Olive Garden or Applebee's under any circumstances. So, with some nervousness, I traveled down Mass Ave to look for a place to eat.
I am thrilled to say that there is at least one decent restaurant in Lunenburg and I am going to give a shout out to a new server-in-training named Erica. I would come back just for the service from Erica.
The Bootlegger is a very homey New England style restaurant. But, the food is much more interesting. My wife had a seafood dinner in an extremely tasty, light tomato sauce with lots of capers and spices. I had the scallops, which were prepared well, and vegetables that were cooked just right. What a surprise! Not just an interesting menu -- there is clearly a chef that cares.
Erica is a gem of a server. She gave just the right mix of attentiveness and leaving us alone. She checked in, delivered what we wanted BEFORE we asked, and always had a winning smile. Bootlegger -- Erica is a gem. (And, no, I have never met her before and do not know her family.) -

The food is the best around! They have gourmet dishes and home style, Italian-too. I've been going here since my sister was a young waitress. She fell in love with the old ex.chef here. The vision of this place and the food that goes with it is a wonderful experience! If you are someone who loves gourmet type dishes or you have a taste for the really fresh ingredients, complimenting each other, this is the place! Right down to the cocktails! The renovations are going to be amazing, once completed! The owner, Allen, is listening to the customers! He wants everyone to be happy! Not to many places go over and above, like he does! The waitstaff who has been there for a long time is the best. Even the newbies are good! The Bootlegger is my all time favorite place to eat!!!

Good salmon, great fruit salad (fresh strawberries and blueberries even in November ), yummy sweet potato fries. Awful oriental lettuce wrap main course at lunchtime. It was like soup in a lettuce leaf.
Love the new decor, especially the lighting. Very friendly staff. -

The Bootlegger is a one-of-a-kind place in this part of Massachusetts. The owner, Allan Cosimi, his mom, Gloria, his manager, Angela and all the waitstaff, especially Nicole, make this restaurant the type of place you book a limo to go to with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night when you live in Boston. Sounds crazy, right? I mean, who drives an hour north-west of the city when we have all these amazing places in town to enjoy? Well, I do, for one, and here's why: the food's amazing, the drinks delicious, wine list extensive for this part of the world, and ambiance is fantastic. After 14 years in business, things have only gotten better at the Bootlegger.
On our most recent visit with friends we tried the surf and turf special (this dish had a seafood stuffing that must have been laced with an addictive drug - too good to be true), the veal chop with polenta (I don't think of myself as polenta person, but this was unbelievable), a new chicken dish with brocoolini and mushroom ravioli that would knock your socks off, and baked stuffed shrimp. EVERYTHING was delectable and dessert afterward (apple crisp and maple walnut creme brulee) put us into a food lover's coma. This is one of the few places so far west of Boston that you'll find Moet & Chandon Champagne Nectar Imperial on the wine list, and I highly recommend it - yum!
On prior visits we've tried lots of different items from the menu, but you have not had eggplant parm until you've had it here: Gloria makes it fresh almost every day and it's AMAZING.
The ambiance of the Bootlegger is not to be understated either: the lounge area is huge with a U-shaped bar complete with bartenders that really know how to tend bar. The waitstaff are a fantastic bunch too - every one has her/his own personality, but they all share one thing in common: dedication.
I could go on and on, but you get the point: whether you happen to be out in the middle of nowhere in Massachusetts and are looking for an amazing place to eat & drink, or if you're yearning for an alternative to what you find in Boston every night, take a trip to the Boot and you won't be disappointed!!! -

This is the place I like to go for special celebrations because the service is great, the food is amazing and they have a nice choose of drinks. It's a great environment and the prices are good too. I highly recommend!
I ordered the scallops and I wasn't impressed...everything else has been amazing. -

We have been here on a Tuesday night and they offered dinner, bottle of wine and desert for $30 for two ....very good portions and service...then off to the movies for a cheap and fun night out. Also went for lunch and had the Fried Clams...all I can say is WOW! I am from Boston and love my fish fresh and clean...these were amazing!

I am a big fan of The Bootlegger. Great for a date night, an evening out with family and friends, or even to celebrate something special. The restaurant has a low-key but pleasant ambiance that allows for a relaxing, enjoyable meal.
They have a great menu that features a variety of American and Italian dishes. There is definitely something for everyone. We've enjoyed all our meals here so far - no complaints! They make a very good prime rib, cooked perfect to order - highly recommend. They also serve a yummy polenta, which is something you don't see too often.
The waitstaff are very friendly and really shine on service. Coupled with the delicious food, The Bootlegger guarantees a great night out! -

Great spot for a Saturday afternoon drink and lunch special. Consistently good food that is a cut above other options in the area.

I like the Boot. The only drawback is its quite expensive. The food is traditional with a unique twist. I did have a bone in my chicken soup and wasnt offered anything in its place. I had the prime rib sandwich. It was really good! The spread they put on it is awesome. The fries were also nice, not like typical places. The decor is outdated but the bar side is cute and perfect for apps and a drink.

The food is better than most in the area. Some tables in the various dining rooms are not as comfortable as others, but we do love the large booths. Prices are a little higher than other local sit-down (non-chain) places, but worth the money. My wife and I go here 2x-3x/month and it's definitely in our top 5 local favorites. I eat Atkins and my wife is vegetarian and we both feel that there's enough variety on the menu for both of us.

I really like the (boot), wouldn't say it's the best place in town, but pretty consistent with almost anything. By the way- they make the most amazing blueberry cosmo!- and add fresh blueberries! I do agree with one of the last reviewers- the hostess,(Angela?), sooooo unfriendly! Owners ever notice that?, or does she own part??!!!!

I love the Bootlegger. The food is yum, the prices are right, and I love that it's called the Bootlegger. It could use a little more speakeasy flair but hey, I guess that can be easy to overdo. This place was my pick for bday dinner with my family this year!

This was my first visit. I had no idea what to expect. Broad menu. Interesting decor. Very good service. Good drinks and good beer on tap.
Got the stuffed mushrooms and calamari for apps. Both were very good. So many places overcook calamari. This was done perfectly. 3 out of four of us got a seafood pasta special. Which although I wouldn't call this an Italian restaurant, the food was way better than what you get at most places around here that claim to be Italian restaurants. Huge shrimp, giant scallops and lobster meat, all cooked correctly and seasoned well.
Bravo. I definitely will return. -
