Great atmosphere, service and presentation. The scallop & shrimp risotto was good and the sushi was fresh, slightly on the expensive side .

Stooped here for an early dinner & had a very good meal. The inside of the restaurant where we sat was a bit dark & considering it was a bright sunny early evening was a bit disappointing. Started with 2 appetizers, the Hot Crab & Artichoke Dip was very tasty, had plenty of crab & a small portion where a couple each could have a taste. Also had the Beet Salad which was very tasty. The best main course was the Blackened Swordfish which was outstanding, great flavor, extremely fresh & cooked to perfection! Also had the Baby Bsack Ribs that were well seasoned & very tender, the meat fell right off the bone. For desert tried the Profiteroles, 3 cream puffs filled with ice cream. A very large portion more then enough for two to share. Also tried the homemade Greek yogurt, honey & walnuts that was great. The service was good, the prices a bit high but overall we found it well worth it.

The setting: Nice wooden decor inside the restaurant and nice bar. The patio is a plus but a bit too noisy since really close to the road.
The service: OK but nothing memorable.
The food: decent but nothing memorable. Ordered the grilled ahi tuna which was OK and came with a side of baked sweet potato and green beans. All quite bland I'm afraid. The rest of the party ordered sushi which was OK.
The price to quality ratio: well no doubt overpriced for what you get. The kicker, no free refill on iced tea and at $2.5 a glass it added up quite fast on the bill. Of course the waiter failed to mention that during the meal...
Overall OK experience but most likely won't be back.

I'm confused by The Boathouse.  Seriously, confused.  It seems like it should be good.  The decor is nice enough.  The menu is expansive...perhaps too much so.  Twice now I've eaten a meal here on par with airline food...in coach, for about the price of an actual airline ticket.

The offending food this time:  Calamari that while described well on the menu came out dessicated and tasteless.  Sushi that while described well on the menu came out mushy and garbled.  Sushi should not only be fresh, but should have a separation of flavors...not just salt.  What was I thinking ordering it so far from the sea.  Silly man.

I was hesitant to go here at all, but The Woodland was packed.  (They've never let me down.)  To The Boathouse, I say, "Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me."  My final advice, whittle down your menu to a smaller amount of dishes that you can actually make well.  There's an old saying you might want to consider:  Quality over quantity.  Think about it.

I have spent some serious money at The Boathouse. I always order their sushi, so I can't comment on the rest of the menu. But, I can say that the sushi has always been fresh and delicious.

I've eaten at The Boathouse with friends and alone, and I've always had a pleasant time. It's housed in a warm, traditional building and blessed with a very pleasant staff. The Boathouse gets totally crazy when the local boarding schools have parents weekend or some kind of sports activity, but at other times, it is intimate and serene. Just be aware that there are not too many choices around here so the good ones fill up quickly when the folks are in town.

Nice enough place. Ate here a few times (or ordered out) when I went to Salisbury. I usually just got the burger with fries, which were good, if a bit expensive. (Although the School usually paid since I ordered while working on the campus newspaper.) The Boathouse can definitely attract crowds because of its convenient location - about equidistant from Salisbury and Hotchkiss. The food has always been good though perhaps not outstanding. If I am back in the area this wouldn't be my top choice, but it would likely be top 10

Oops - well, no matter what I try to do to edit the name of this place, it still doesn't quite come up right.  The Boathouse is one of those classic restaurants where you instantly feel at home.  I don't get here often - probably once a year as home for me is the west coast, however whenever I'm back in Lakeville or Salisbury, the Boathouse is on my list.

The crowd ranges from locals (singles and family) to, in the summer, lots of folks escaping from Manhattan to the beauty of northwest Connecticut.

The menu offers traditional American fare (steaks, chops and pasta) as well as a small sushi and sashimi menu.  And for those of us who need a beverage while we wait, the bar at the Boathouse offers a full selection of wines, liquor and local beers.

The parking lot is small, and sometimes quite full at the weekend, but the small town of Lakeville offers plenty of alternative places to park the car while you enjoy a great evening.

last time we were there we waited for about 15-20 minutes. we were seated given menus, brought water and then that was it. Waiter after waiter passed by and no one paid us any attention. We were about to walk out and go to the woodland when someone from our party asked a different waiter where our waiter was. When our girl came over she said "i had no idea you were here" nice.

i had the sushi that night- it was bad. It had WAY too much rice and for some reason the sushi chef seems to think putting tempura flakes and crazy sauces and other stuff all over the top makes it taste better. I had a spicy salmon roll and it had so much rice I could barely fit a piece in my mouth.

The boathouse used to be a much better restaurant. Not sure what happened.

This outdoor seating seafood place (with Bison sometimes) may have gotten 4 stars if it had Bison. We ordered the clams on the half shell. The waiter was totally Sales, and that made the experience nicer. He had charisma. The staff was all around top-notch.
I had the fish fry, a bit strange (it was a blue fish of somekind and came in one bite). The beer on tap included Stella, Pilsner Urquell, a Weiss beer... and the tap was fresh (I'm a bit of a beer snob, especially the tap portion).
We also split a salad. Portions were perfectly fine for splitting on a light evening.
Would go back again, can't imagine there are too many places, and I'll definitely try the Sushi next time, as I hear that is what is goooood.

I can't understand the good reviews. Although the bar and ambiance are very attractive, the food is really terrible. My wife had a salad with mostly dead lettuce leaves, and when she told the waiter (a teenager), he took it to the chef and came back with the report that "that's what we've got right now". No replacement, no reduction in the bill. That's just typical - I've been there a number of times. The mussels are a mess, so are most dishes. Get a burger and fries, and you're probably safe. Much better choice is The Woodland nearby, or Serevan about 10 miles away. A promising new restaurant just opened about 200 yards away (Giulia) - but haven't been there yet.
