A little pricey for what you get, but basically loved the place.

Downsides: There is a view of the ocean if you stand in the right place on the property.  Translation: you are a good five minute DRIVE to the ocean and the downtown, as there are no sidewalks in Mendocino.  Also, this place is a MOTEL and the decor struck my wife and I as slightly haphazard (e.g., the rooms seem to be stocked with whatever furniture was available at an estate sale on a given weekend).  Finally, given that we were traveling in the off-season, the bill was a bit heavy. That said, the upsides outweighed the downsides:

Upsides:  The staff was VERY friendly.  They prepare fresh cookies and snack cakes, and I even found a package of cookies on my car in the morning (nice touch!).  The grounds are peaceful and well maintained.  Yet, though owner operated, the owners do not loom and "hover" around you. (If you are a B&B aficionado, you will attest that this is the worst part of some owner operated accomodations).  As for the room itself:  The bed was VERY comfortable.  The room was VERY clean, and the owners even included some ground-cut evergreen branches in a vase (again, nice touch).  The fireplace is the real deal; and in the room we had there was a jacuzzi tub that was spotless and right by the window overlooking the grounds.  While I could not view the ocean, I could watch the sun set, and that was VERY nice.  In sum, this is a great place, if you don't need to be right by the ocean or on the "beaten path" of downtown Mendocino.

The Blackberry Inn is a bit silly, with the Old Western Town motif, but it is convenient, clean, and although a bit expensive for what it is, not expensive for the area. The little food basket with fruit, homemade cookies and nut bread, is definitely a nice touch, and helpful if you don't know where or when you are going to find breakfst. It helps to make your Mendocino experience quite pleasant.

Kitchy in that the hotel is made to look like an old west town and each room has a name (ie the barber shop, the boarding house, etc). The price is reasonable for the area and even the smallest room is large with a wood burning stove which is very cozy at night. You can get real wood instead of Duraflame logs - just ask and they will bring it to your room. Room was pretty clean. It's only a 5 minute drive from tiny downtown Mendocino.

Only problems were that our room was not made even though we arrived 45 minutes after check-in time. Also, the man at the front desk was not very friendly and they don't provide hair dryers. Your cell may not get reception there, even though it will in town.
