These people have hope, the actual food is good but I had to ditch half the sub roll just to make it work. The steak in the steak in cheese was good, better then average, but I was a tad bit shook by the ineffective use of the bread (just have one size if your going to really do people like that, with the big bulky roll effect, not cool, this is a college town) ladies and gent's so I think avg. when I should be like "damn that was a good sub"... They forgot the coke a cola can : ( Pizza I see where people are going w/ that it's a little on the "sugary side" I got a slice to be sure. I'd eat there again, but only in person.

so theyve messed up my delivery multiple times in the past but they were nice and i liked theyre sandwich so i kept on. But enough is enough. especially when they mess up and try to blame it on you
i couldnt pay because the delivery guy had brought NO CHANGE with him and i was gonna be forced into giving him a 20 for a sandwich and chips. so i said id call and pay with credit. i realized they brought me jalapeno heat chips. i ordered plain. when asked to have them taken off the girl was nice and didnt kno how to change the charge so brought someone (prob the manager) on the phone. he basically tried to blame it on me cause get this. I did order chips but i didnt say what kind! sooo the logical thing when you hear "chips" is not to assume i meant plain cause i didnt specify or ask me to specify but INSTEAD bring me JALAPENO HEAT CHIPS and then blame it on me when it turns out my mouth is on FIRE. thanks a lot big a. i liked your chicken parm but i will NEVER order here again. complete idiocy which cant be excused with kindness cause there was no apology or nothing. just acted like it was my fault they cant handle one order.
all in all. if you want some aggravation and disappointment in your order over and over again. then this is the place for you -

Honestly, I forgot I had been here before until one of the pictures on Yelp, where I have had a roast beef sandwich and jalapeno poppers. They weren't that special.
So since I forgot about it, my girlfriend and I ordered off of Foodler, which had the ribbon on it, and it was new so we decided to check it out.
Delivery ws fast, it was here about 20 minutes before it's expected time, which was 5 minutes before this was posted.
Jalapeno poppers, nothing special, but they were good enough.
The antipasta salad was a regular antipasta salad. My girlfriend said it wasn't "spearable" as in being able to easily spear it on your fork, but otherwise, it was an okay antipasta salad.
Then the pizza.
The pizza, well, to me wasn't good. Maybe it was there fault, maybe it was foodler.
One, there option on foodler doesn't allow extra cheese, and the pizza itself sorta lacked cheese. The pizza itself was meh. I couldn't eat more then two slices. The prosciutto that we ordered on it was sliced so thin I forgot we ordered it. The crust had a weird sweetness that my girlfriend said tasted like gingerbread. If it did taste like gingerbread I wouldn't have eaten it cause I hate gingerbread.
This would be good pizza if you lived in Oklahoma or the south (both places that the closest thing to good pizza is Papa Johns or Hungry Howies), and didn't know any better. This is Boston. they should knwo better.
So the experience would be as my girlfriend said "this would be good food, only if you were drunk."
So if you're drunk, get The Big A. -

Bleh. They sent the wrong pizza. I had ordered a pizza bianca, which I think one case safely assume is meant to be a white pizza. So the driver shows up, I take the box. When I get back inside my apartment it turns out not only is it a red pizza. In fact I'm pretty sure it's a regular cheese, but it's cold as well.
I tried to call their number, but noone picked up. Now I'm contemplating a chargeback.
Moral of the story, check your pizza before the driver leaves. -

Oh Big A's...
When i need to order a pizza (because the urge does strike), I never order from places such as Papa John's or Dominos. I think there is better, cheaper pizza in this world. This is why I am always on the quest to find the best neighborhood pizza joint around. So far, in Allstonland, this is turning out to be Big A's. The pizza is New York style - flat, big slices with lots of greasy cheese. I think this is good for most of the time except when craving Neopolitian style.
I have heard good things about their subs, calzones and salads but have not tried those options out yet.
The service is friendly and prompt. They even have an iphone app to order with. Good with me, good for my stomach. -

ALLSTON, MA
I started going to this place because it was right down the street from my apartment, and my laziness was definitely rewarded.
Round 1 I got the chicken parmesan on a braided roll, and what they gave me was a monument to the dish - huge breaded chicken breasts, gobs of cheese and dripping with sauce. It was delicious. The girl at the register was flirty, they had 2 varieties of salt and vinegar chips, and they have both Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback - it's really the little things that count.
Round 2 was a dine-in after a night on the town with a friend. We ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, which was delicious. Big A's crust is relatively thin, the sauce was tangy, and they were generous with the chicken. My friend and I also discovered that Big A's has a huge flat screen TV affixed above a wall length mirror, so you can watch yourself watching TV and stuffing your face (very meta!). We watched a terrible surf movie which mawing our "tasties" and it felt like we were at one of our apartments relaxing.
Definitely give this place a shot. -

Years ago I really liked this place but recently my opinion has changed. I've been in there about 5 times in the last 6 months and every time I wait at least 5 minutes to even place my order. Yesterday I realized they jacked up there prices. It cost me $9.97 for a small chicken parm and a can of pepsi. WTF? The chicken parm was decent at best and it seems that they don't stock half the items on the menu. There are better and cheaper places in the neighborhood that have better customer service. Next time, I'll just go to Big Daddy's.

What a great space. Wow look at this space. This space is pretty crazy.
Those are the three lines I kept repeating out loud when I ate here Thursday night. SPACIOUS PIZZA JOINT. Who does that??? It was quite relieving to have some breathing room for the digesting we had to do from all the food we got. Plus mad drink cooler options. 3-4 large ones lined up in a row. Good fancy chips available. Lots of menu options plus they are opened with little changes here and there... so it's not necessarily grease food all the time.
Out of all of the restaurants I brought my week visitor NYC friend to.. he was most expressive with his "MMMmm's" and "Oh my god's" while eating his chicken parm sandwich and pepperoni pizza here. This is the kind of place where you can picture all your boys to men buds from your hometown stopping by at everyday.
As Tracee D. has mentioned.. I've had plenty of that wondrous Big A crisp, cheesy and fresh topping pizza but it was my first time dining in. Let me tell you.. there is NOTHING better than that hot pie arriving infront of my face after one of those nights out in Central... all the way from Allston. Who does that? We feel lucky to take a bite of those little monsters each time.. especially since we live right by late night fake Italian.. Hi-Fi and Cinderella's with the weakest tomato/marinara sauce known to man kind.
The Big A is not a scam. I'm beginning to believe things have turned for the much much better ever since G$ took over the food role. Dates here prove it.. fan base of the pasta shows it. The ziti was nice, fluffy baked ... perfectly boiled.
My favorite: Fried Ravioli (used to think the ones at the San Gennaro festivals in Little Italy were the bomb but after this SAUCE...no way) Order anything with sauce. Marinara with the calamari is probably like Sheepshead Bay standards. DROOOOOL.
Location is pretty sweet if you live anywhere near all that crap food. If you're lazy.. I'd totally hit this place up for a slice or sub before Model/Deep Ellum... etc... if you don;t mind the walk.. come before the Sunset/Common Ground/Our House/Great Scott's... okay fine.. even if you're headed to (cringe) The Kells/Wonder Bar/The Joshua Tree... I'm pretty sure you're welcomed here anyway. Or just order in from your abode, duh.
If I didn't like this place.. I'd avoid T$ plus reviewing it all costs.. but no shame here. This one took me awhile to sum up... just because I wanted to make sure I get everything right and even pay a visit to the Big A....wesome.... xcellent...ut of this world. -

I called Big A up last night to git some delivery as I was wayyyy too lazy to go shopping or cook. Had a great chat with the dood who picked up the phone. Discussed how outdated my menu was, how many slices of pizza are in a large, how difficult it is to put walnuts in a panini (why the Waldorf Panini is no longer offered), and how they have a new website with all updated offerings.
So I hung up and checked out http://www.bigapizzeri.... Great website! Some misspelled stuff... but it did the job.
They have some great specials (large cheese $5, pepperoni $6). I got 2 pep slices and a soda for $5! The root beer I got had the Big A label on it... it was delicious!
And the delivery guy was on time. I gave him a fat tip cuz, hell, I worked two summers at Pizza Hut and I respect the pizza delivery biz and everyone who is a part of it.
Bottom Line: Great customer service, good food, great prices. This is a business I wanna see stick around. I look forward to ordering from them again. OBBS APPROVED. -

I couldn't be happier than when I am eating my basic, and entirely yummy, grilled chicken wrap from the Big A. I normally shy away from wraps to be perfectly honest, but this one truly hits the spot and is clearly made from fresh, high quality ingredients (a rarity in pizza/sub places around these parts). While I've not enjoyed a Big A pasta dish yet, I have heard only great things, and am eager to try!
Big A is a gem. Great comfort food, great prices, and you cannot beat the delivery service! :) -

Never had anything but their pizza, but I am on quest to find the perfect pizza. (see my list!)
While the Big A is not as good as the gold standard, Mystic Pizza in Mystic, CT -- it is, so far, the best I've found in the Boston area for your classic pizza. Which mean, I'm excluding hoity-toity pizzas a la Upper Crust and Peace o' Pie. I love Upper Crust, but sometimes what you want is just a classic slice of greasy pizza.
Their sauce is perfectly seasoned, their crust is perfect, and the staff is friendly and pretty efficient. The space is very large and has big windows, which is nice. -

I despise this place. I live down the street, so I've given it a few chances (laziness, people, laziness). I have never had anything there that tastes remotely like food. Sigh.
**update** I was in a rush to get on the road to make my cousin's wedding rehearsal, and a friend offered to grab some food for me. He picked up some mozzarella sticks knowing my hatred of this place. Bad idea. Instead of being lightly breaded, and oozy in the middle, they were heavily breaded like a chicken finger, and completely solid - no hint of ooziness. What the hell is that? I had one, he had one, and gave the rest to the homeless man over by the Double Tree on our way to Storrow Drive. I think he was mad at us. -

GO! CALL THEM!
Here's a teaser: FABULOUS 16" Cheese Pizza, $10 and ready in 15 minutes.
I love this place. They have been so clutch this winter, I seem to have developed a habit of stopping here on my way home if there is a lot of snow out. Something about snow makes me not want to cook and just eat yummy yummy comfort food.
Big A is definitely good for that. The guys and gals who work here are always nice, they chat with people even if it's kind of busy.
The pizza is GREAT. I did try ziti with chicken, broccoli and vodka sauce once, and while I love the tons of different options they have for pasta, I'll be sticking with the pizza from now on. The pasta wasn't bad, but it can't compete with their pizza.
I've heard they have awesome delivery, but I live right around the corner so I always just pick it up.
Go order now. -

My roommate and I tried this place tonight because our go-to place, Jim's Deli off Washington St, only does breakfast and lunch on weekends. Big A's is your average storefront deli/pizzaria. It was a decent but not spectacular experience. The staff was friendly and casual, which combined with plenty of tables and open space contributed to a relaxed atmosphere. Their non-carbonated drinks come in branded glass bottles, which was a nice touch. The premises are very clean and there were no service bottlenecks.
The best thing about the Big A is the portions. We got there close to seven, and by the time I sat down to eat I was starving. I ordered a large turkey sub and large was not an understatement. A nice big fluffy seaseme seed roll with about a half a pound of turkey probably a whole tomato in slices and four slices of cheese. I was definitely stuffed by the time I threw out my plate, which was just what I wanted to be. The ingredients weren't bad, but they weren't quite as fresh as I get at Jim's. The roll was just starting to go stale. The meat and lettuce were good but not the best I've ever had. The tomatoes were pretty solid though.
All in all, not a place I'd make the effort to go back to but by no means a place I regretted trying. If I lived a little closer to it or made a habit of ordering delivery, the Big A might have found a slot in my rotation.Listed in: Boston/Brighton and…

Big A was fantastic. Friendly, helpful over the phone, good prices, good pizza, and, especially important, punctual delivery. Employee Manuel even called me back to see if I wanted it cut into smaller pieces since it was for young kids (6 pizzas for a boy's bday party.) I would not hesitate to recommend them to friends, who are at a loss since 1 pizza place recently suffered a fire, and another has a reputation of poor labor practices. Bravo for Big A coming through with flying colors.

This place is absolutely money. They consistently deliver fantastic food quickly at a reasonable price. Every time I order something new I'm a bit hesitant (because my regulars are so good), but I'm always pleased with the result.
The pizza is great - always stacked with lots of fresh ingredients - and the sauce is rich with just the right amount of snap. I would also recommend the chicken salad salad, the chicken cutlets with ravioli (more of that stellar sauce), and of course the chicken parm sub. Just ask them to add a little sauce if it's too dry for your taste!
As a side note, I'm consistently amazed at how quickly they deliver my food! The guy always says 'Half-hour to forty-five minutes" but I've clocked them at twelve! Granted, I live less than a mile away, but that's spectacular! -

The best things about Big are that they are super convenient, relatively inexpensive, and pretty fast.
They are not gourmet, and I would not expect that for the prices they charge ($6 cheese pizza, $6 sandwich.) That said, I like their food in the way that I also like bar food when drinking. It doesn't stand out the way some spectacular sandwich or pizza does, it stands out because it is cheap and across the street.
The folks who work here have been nothing but extremely pleasant, even jovial. I enjoy every experience I have had dealing with the staff here.
I have to make a few menu notes for folks:
Moz Sticks: These are spectacular. They taste beer-battered and are juicy with either melted cheese fat or something else that is WONDERFUL - $6
Paninis: They are all chicken salad, of one kind or another. Cheap and ok if you wanted to eat chicken salad, but I got a Chicken Salad Surprise and that sounds like a sex act I had hoped never to be associated with. - $3
Cheeseburger Sub: I ordered this because it sounded so grotesque. It was about 2lbs worse than that. - :(Comment from nicolas e. of The Big A 2/10/2010

Probably some of the better subs in the area. Major points for the braided subs rolls - they're both chewy and resilient enough to hold up against steak & cheese. Chicken cutlet/chicken parm is out of this world! Easily the best around. I try to jam as many of the vegetables on there as possible and they offer a good selection.
Good onion rings and fries too!

Ideally I would've given iit 3.5 stars...
Called the other day and their ovens were broken! AHHGH! This is our go-to pizza joint, so it really put a damper in my day.
Good pizza especially for the price: 7 bucks for a pepperoni pizza, awesome! It's not the greatest pizza you have ever had, but definitely the best deal for your dinero. Holla, recession special!!!
Sandwiches aren't bad. The chicken parm is good but not worth the rave. Delivery sketchy but decent parking around for pick up.
In sum: a solid place, but not worth going out of your way for. -

At work we get food from The Big A every monday and it's around the corner from my house so I eat there pretty often. They're a great pizza joint, well priced and pretty good. There's a variety of items on the menu too.
The pizza is good, I think the best is the barbecue chicken. They also have really good calzones, ones to try are, chicken parm, buffalo chicken, and the italian (for lighter fare). They have a really good veggie wrap that has avocado and hard boiled egg, which is an excellent combination, I've never tried before The Big A.
Their best item however is the spinach bacon salad, which comes with 'hot' bacon dressing.
The Big A has a lot of interested menu items, so if you go there feel free to venture outside of the pizza realm. I also think the guys behind the counter enjoy it when people order things aren't pizza or calzones, -

This used to be a destination of choice for a lot of coworkers. After 2 bad (and I mean BAD) Roast Beef subs in a row, though, I gave up on the place a few years ago.
Something in me decided in the interest of a second chance (and another Yelp review), I would give them another go.
Steered clear of the roast beef, of course, but got a standard sub - and it was of a standard variety - the service was good - and I can't complain about the place overall. It's nothing I will make a trip to on purpose, but if in the vicinity I won't ignore it like I have for the past few years. -

Their chicken parm is out of this world but the bread they serve it on is kinda meh. I love them but they sometimes mess my order up. But somehow i end up ordering from them at least twice a week regardless. Good guys and fast delivery. Stay away from anything too complicated that appears on the menu it is too good to be true.
I know they have a 5 dollars for a large cheese pizza "recession special" going on right now which makes them pretty awesome in my book. I have yet to try this but have been meaning to and will edit this post once I do.
In summary, Order a Chicken Parm and find happiness. -

I lived next to this place for about a month before I finally decided to try the chicken parmesan sub, which they boldly proclaim on the exterior of the building as "World Famous".
It was quite tasty, I must say. But I'm willing to bet it's not the best ever.
I walked in a it was ready in less than 5 minutes after I placed my order. Make sure to request parmesan cheese, though, because I think they gave me American and that, my friends, is weird. -

Big A is right around the corner from me. It's my favorite pizza in the area. Nice and garlicy, sauce is good, plenty of cheese, and nice thin-but-not-too-thin crust. Plus, they are really affordable.
I'm not a huge fan of their subs or wraps, though. They're decent, but they're nothing special. The cold veggie sub doesn't have enough on it, and the veggies are cut too big to be easy to eat.
The guys there aren't always that friendly, but hey, it's a pizza joint. What do you expect?
Also, nice variety of creative sodas at the restaurant. -
Review from Wes T.
Brookline, MA
This place is somewhat well known for it's Chicken Parm subs, which are very good. They use a sesame seed bun and two enormous chicken breasts to create a unique sandwich that you can always recognize as Big A.
The rest of the food is pretty standard pizza joint fare. The pizza is nothing special, the subs are kind of bland and the salads are pretty gross. They're usually slightly warm and the lettuce has never been what I would describe as "fresh". I do really like the orange soda they sell here. It's not a name brand, but it comes in a little glass bottle and is quite a tasty treat. Overall, the food is nothing to write home about. It's essentially what you get at any run of the mill pizza place.
I knocked this down to 2 stars instead of 3 because the service is pathetic. No what you order on the phone, you're told 15-20 minutes. And no matter how long you wait before leaving to pick the food up, when you arrive at Big A they are ALWAYS just putting your food into the oven. This happens to me without fail, even when it's obvious that I'm the only person who has placed an order in the last hour. It's really quite an amazing feat of atrocious timing.
And the delivery is slow. You're always told 30 minutes and the food arrives over an hour later. And I live a stones throw from the place. For shame, Big A. For shame. -
Review from George G.

It's always something at The Big A.
I don't like the guys who run this place because I feel like they're always trying to find a way to rip me off. I used to live around the corner from the restaurant, and even though it was the closest pizza place, I would walk right by.
They once gave me a pepperoni pizza folded in half and tried to convince me it was a calzone.
I had a coupon for a free 2-liter pepsi, but they insisted that it was a typo.
I once ordered a "recession special" pizza and they added a dollar to the price without telling me.
I tried to order a cheese slice but they insisted that I they didn't have any ready, that they will not have any ready, and that if I want a cheese pizza slice I would have to order the full pie and wait 10-min...or I could order a pepperoni slice for a dollar more.

Wanna go to the Big A for dinner? The Big A is a sub shop on the Allston-Brighton line. I had the misfortune of taking my Papa here one night after a doctor's appointment. The service was very slow and seemed confused and annoyed that we were placing an order for 2 subs...I know, the horror? I got a meatball sub that pretty much tasted like super balls (you know, the bouncy balls you could get for twenty-five cents outside the grocery store). You do. Believe me. Not that I've ever eaten a super ball, but I can say with some authority since I am a meatball sub conosseuir that the Big A's meatball subs suck balls. Major. My papa ate his chicken parm sub, but he's 90 and from Ireland. Salt and pepper is their only spice. So, he liked his. But, he's not picky. I'm still sticking the Big A with the ol one-two stars. Sorry, A~ I wanted to really like you, too.

We ordered delivery last night in a fit of baseball, beer and extreme hunger. Big A was late... very late, but gave us our food for FREEEEEE. That was pretty awesome. Basically, they're not A-holes. Still, we didn't really get to rock the food as hard as we wanted because it was cold, needless to say, it tasted very FREEEEEE. I will certainly try again. Glad you're down with the custie service you Big A-not-hole. XO.

I had pasta here one hungover afternoon before I moved ... I was picking up a friend who lives nearby. And I'm glad I stopped in ... the pasta with marinara was enough to kick some hangover ass and get me in the mood to move furniture! Okay, I won't go that far, but it did soothe the savage beast in my head. Thanks, Big A!

This review is for The Big A's "World Famous" Chicken Parm sub only since that is the only thing I've had here. I have to say, it is quite good! They use a sesame see bulkie roll, slice of American, and two generous cut chicken breasts, lightly breaded, and dipped in a marinara that seems home made to me. That is the difference. Definitely a cut above most sub places.

Solid Chicken parm, it's all i've even gotten here. Their french fries remind me of high school cafeteria fries, aka they suck. But their chicken parm sub is bomb, probably the best in the area. It is REAL chicken not a frozen patty. That makes all the difference. It is also stuffed full of chicken so you wont be disappointed.

LOVE this place! I moved near A's 2 months ago from out of state. Looked up local places that could deliver (since I didn't know anything or places in the area). Best pick ever! they were efficient, gave great food and great service
The food is hearty and cheap. We have now ordered from here 5 or six times since. (Considering we order out only 2x/ week that's a lot!)
Turkey sandwiches with homemade roasted green peppers, on amazingly soft, fresh rolls! Fresh hugeee servings of chicken parmesan (sp?) for under $8?! (amazing with WD cheese) and creative looking other pasta dishes! Huge hamburger meals, great chicken kabob entrees with two sides for less than $8!
Then the kicker! We ordered a pizza. A large cheese pizza for only $8 too? I have now ordered it twice in two weeks (and I normally don't even like pizza!) The freshly made crust and perfect sauce and cheese, made me CRAVE it over the last two weeks, to the point that I just HAD to have it again!
I highly, highly recommend this place. -

This was my go to hangover place to find food being that I used to live less than a block away. The guys that work there are always really nice and easy to deal with. They also have some of the best cheap pizza Ive had in boston.
1 quasi bad experience: I ordered a sandwich there once with bacon, and the bacon they used seemed to have been cooked days earlier and then rewarmed. Even though the rest of the sandwich was good, the bacon definitely tasted stale. But if you stay away from bacon dishes, its all good.
