I've been travelling all the way to Santa Monica from Covina to get my hair cut and color. To start, the traffic is hellish and the cost of getting both cut and color was getting a bit steep.
I found The Beauty Lounge and I am so happy that part of the westside has made it's way to Covina. I love TBL and the stylists. I come out looking like a million bucks after each and every visit. Thanks, Gary!!!!
I had an appt with Nikki and it was so nice! She really listened to what I wanted, as well as make suggestions based on my hair type. It was a lot of fun! and mega relaxing. I even got to sip a mimosa and eat a muffin! yum! I'll definitely be coming back.
I've been going here for a couple of years now and I love them! I drive all the way from Eagle Rock, but it's worth it. The staff is very welcoming and professional. If I leave a message to make an appointment for a cut, they return my call very promptly. I've been going to Tamar for a couple of years now and she always gives a great cut and she is very friendly and fun.

I came here last year and I REALLY wanted to like this salon. I really did.
But the chemical burned flesh on my ears and scalp say NAY!
:(
It's not like I've never gotten my hair professionally dyed or anything. I think my hairstylist left it on me for too long under the dryer. I've been scared to get my hair colored ever since. It took almost 2 months and a jar of aquaphor for the tops of my ears to stop oozing gross stuff and for my scalp to stop burning.
I called for advice and maybe to be seen and was pretty much dismissed - "Just go see a doctor".
Double :(
Tamar made my hair sooo cute once again last week! We tried a new color and cut, and I've gotten so many compliments. Have I mentioned that I love this place?! Thanks again BL and Tamar!

I'm new to the area and Yelp came through for me when I needed to find a place to get my hair colored!
Lisa Marie did my color and I really like it! :-)
Pros:
-Mimosas... yummy! I'm pretty sure I had 4 while I was waiting with the color on my hair.
-Lisa Marie was suuper sweet. She even recommended some other local places for me to try out.
-Lisa Marie offers a color "refresher" for in-between coloring for $25
-I called for a some-day appointment which was GREAT because I had somewhere to go that night- Thanks guys!
Cons:
-Location (The Neighborhood looks a little depressing ie tons of old, closed buildings and the restaurant across the street was pouring out smoke that kept blowing inside.)
I'm a super simple gal who has always had the same simple haircut for years now. I am just not very good with maintenance and upkeep. I never even use products. I just wash, blow dry, maybe curl, and go. Not to mention, I have a hard time finding styles for myself. I have a round face and my hair is in decent condition but somewhat thin on top and thick on bottom. So I'm always reverting to the same style that I always had. And because of this, I normally just go to Supercuts because it's cheap and I don't ask for much of a style anyways.
But then suddenly I needed change and I looked to Yelp to find me a solution. I decided to give The Beauty Lounge a chance and see what all the good reviews was about. I went on a weekday afternoon since I got out of work super early. I basically just called and said if they had any availability within the next few hours and they did. So one hour later I ventured over there. It was pretty easy to find and parking was at the back of the salon.
Upon entering inside, you will notice a very eclectic surroundings. It's very cool and hip. Very clean and organized too. The front desk lady (sorry I forgot to ask her name), was very nice and she offered me something to drink while I waited. She also had me fill out a new client form with my information so that they can send me updates on their salon. I've never been to a salon that cared so much about their customers.
I didn't wait too long before I had my appointment with Lisa Marie. She was very perky, friendly, and easy going. I told her about my bad experiences, what I can and can't do with my hair, what I kinda want, and what I definitely did NOT want. I basically left it up to her to decide what style suited me best. I was taking a huge risk people. But the risk paid off.
She gave me a style that was easy to manage and gave me a lot of volume and style. It was very cute and I loved it. She took her time with cutting my hair and yet we still managed to make a lot of small talk. She's very cool to talk to.
She also taught me how to upkeep my hair which is the hardest part for me. So far I'm doing ok. I can't get it exactly the same way but I'm still practicing.
Overall, it was a great salon experience. My shampoo, cut, and style ended up costing about $50. It's a little high for me but that's because I hardly go to salons and I'm really frugal. LOL But I totally understand that it's a normal salon price nowadays. I just have to accept it if I want good hair. But she did tell me if I call and book ahead I get 10% off so that's what I'll do in the future because I'm all about saving and getting discounts now and then. =P
Finding a new place to get a haircut is not an easy task. I recently moved out to West Covina and found myself scouring good ol' Yelp for a place to go.
The Beauty Lounge Salon had good ratings and I can see why. The salon itself is very clean and equally as nice on the inside with decour that ranges from a statue of KISS to a Betty Paige poster.
The staff is very friendly and always ready to fix you a drink. Yes, alcoholic drink. Lisa Marie is now my regular stylist and I highly recommend her to any who are in need of looking hot or in need of maintaining their hotness. I'll let you decide which category you're in.
I've been going to the Beauty Lounge for a few months now. I originally started going there after reading so many good online reviews. Gary cuts and colors my hair and I couldn't be happier with the job he does.
I've gone through a lot of hair stylists since I moved here because I couldn't find one that did what I wanted or could cut my hair in a flattering way... I have really thick hair and I've had some stylists tell me they get tired half way through or they go nuts with the thinning shears in some area and I end up missing clumps of hair.
Not Gary though, I've stuck with him because he's done such a great job. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair. I think he is a bit of a perfectionist, my bangs always come out perfect and my hair is really easy to style myself when I get home.
Everyone at the Beauty Lounge is really friendly, it's a fun atmosphere. I also like the fact that no one there has rammed products down my throat. I'm pretty particular about what I use so I'm happy no one has tried to hard sell me. "Do you need product," is just about all I've been offered. I actually stopped going to a stylist because every time I saw her she tried to convince me to buy a hairdryer or a straightener or a line of hair care products.
The salon it's self is really cute and very clean. The whole experience is really nice. I'd recommend Gary and the Beauty Salon. In fact i even referred my mom to Gary and she loved her haircut too.
So my sister in law told me about this place, and we love trying out new places...especially when its about hair.
They are great!! The place has a trendy old fashion feel, a mix of old and new. They are very community orientated, I went in October for a hair cut and it was Breast Cancer Awareness month, the shop was colored in pink, with pink cupcakes, ribbons and chocolates, it was great.
Lucky me, they were having a special too, donate $15.00 and your hair cut is half price. What a deal for a great cause!!
I just got a call from my hairdresser LisaMarie today and they are having a Christmas special on hair color and deep conditioning. Promotional code is LM20. Give them a call LisaMarie is a great hairdresser...she totally listened to what I wanted and also gave her input, in the end a great cut!!
I feel like I broke one of the 10 commandments of getting a haircut: Thou shalt not cheat on your stylist....Especially when your stylist is someone like Lisa Marie, who already does a fantastic job. I needed a haircut before Easter so I can look fresh for Jesus and called to nab any openings for the day of since a Saturday afternoon is always busy.
I got set up with Nicky (sp?). But it's all good because I came out with a pretty good cut so I'm happy.
Beauty Lounge has earned that one last star I've been holding back on. +1/2 star because they read my first review about the closed/open sign and told me that they make sure nobody gets confused like me again so it's pretty obvious they care about the customer and take great strides in making sure all the details are covered.
+1/2 star for the fact that I got to take on the full Beauty Lounge experience. Even though it was busy and pretty much a full house, I never once felt crowded or awkward. It was fun, lively, and poppin' haha.
*Oh, and karma's punishment for breaking this commandment had me wearing a bright pink cape. But it's all good, it was almost Easter after all...gotta rock the pastels, haha.

Once upon a time there was a little young lady fresh out of high school. She thought it would be a great idea to color her hair black. Unfortunately, the little young lady did not realize that once you go black, you don't go back. Well, literally, the hair has to be stripped and then recolored.
She called around, and called around, and finally settled upon a lovely stylist named DeeDee. The little young lady's hair was transformed into a stylish dark red messy bob. All the boys loved it.
DeeDee was so amazing that she ended up opening her very own salon! The Beauty Lounge was the talk of the town; equipped with the best stylists, products and alcohol! (Even the best receptionist: Vanessa)
Flash forward a few years, a few haircuts and a few shades of red: the little young lady moved out of the area. Now her hair is turning back to her natural blonde and she desperately needs to book an appointment at The Beauty Lounge!
I just moved back to the area, and was weary about finding a new stylist and salon because I loved the man who did my hair back in Boston. I logged on to Yelp, found The Beauty Lounge, and lo and behold... got an excellent recommendation!
I never thought I could find what I was looking for in a salon so close to my home! The salon was swanky, modern, and very clean. The prices were very reasonable ($40 cut, $65+ color) for the quality of products and amount of time and effort executed. The style and service of the staff absolutely reflected upon the mission of the salon: BEAUTY HAPPY HOUR!
While I waited for my appointment, I was extremely pleased to be able to peruse a really cool book about Pirates and a Susan Sontag photography portfolio... much more entertaining than the typical heap of ancient beauty magazines usually found at a salon. On top of that first impression, I was offered drinks (and even donuts!) every 20 minutes, which was really nice because I was there for nearly 3hrs. I hate it when they give you a water, and 2hrs later you're thirsty and stuck in the chair with hair dye everywhere.
Lisamarie cut and colored my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it, I was more than thrilled. My color looks great, and I felt she really understood what I wanted, and what needed to be done with my hair type to get it that way. Big bonus: we had a pretty good conversation! Usually I find making small talk with a stylist as awkward as having a conversation with the dentist while his hands are in your mouth, but we had a lot of common ground, and she was really nice too!
She offers 10% off if you prebook your next appointment, and it was a no-brainer for me, YES!
I love that this salon is very friendly, well decorated, and that they offer drinks. Also my stylist was nice!
BUT I review on the actual service that I needed, and that was highlights.
The strands that I got highlighted were FRIED. I mean my normally straight healthy hair had horrendous kinks the tips were frazzled and broke off in pieces. I noticed this when she was combing through at the end. I think she left the bleach (?) on too long because the color was lighter than I had wanted and I noticed she was talking on her cell in the back and chit chatting. I don't mind the cell or chit chatting, but I'm only assuming that perhaps she lost track of time?? With the short remains of the strands that broke off, I ended up looking like the leaves of a pineapple. I'm using loads of pomade to try to tame them. lol
While my personal experience was devastating... I know a couple people who have gone here and had fabulous experiences.
While I will not visit again the service and amenities mimicked that of a high end salon. 1 star for great atmosphere, 1 star for nice stylist, but minus 3 stars for my hair!!! :(
But hair grows back right?
I took somebody here because of Yelp and was not impressed at all. I pass by this place all the time and thought it'd be great if I could find a good salon in the neighborhood.
I really wanted to like you, Beauty Lounge. I really did.
You took almost 2 hours for something that should have been under an hour: A boy's haircut and an inch off of a girl's haircut.
I watched in agony as the stylist took her time walking to the back..stop...talk to coworkers about who knows what...hang out in the back for a long time..check her cell phone....come back...stop...talk some more to other people...take a long time just pulling out the scissors and comb...
I mean _every little thing_ was taking forever.
Such a cute place. Sorry.

UPDATE (2/21/08):
I received a kind note from management inquiring how they could "correct the mistakes within (their) salon with the stylist who rendered service." They sincerely apologized for my bad experience and that makes me feel, as a customer, that any future appointments there will be completely worthwhile. Basically, if business owners are looking at Yelp then they obviously care about client feedback and maintaining a good reputation. Thank you, Beauty Lounge.
This place used to be called (*gag*) the "ACROPolis" until thankfully that place shut down and the Beauty Lounge came in and redesigned the ENTIRE place. Done mostly in auburn/dark reds and modern design, the place is amazing compared to the plain white walls of the previous salon.
Granted it's not that expensive by salon standards(so you think they wouldn't doing anything special for their customers), but when you walk in they treat you amazingly well! I was offered wine and many other beverages right away! They also blast amazing upbeat tunes like the Smiths and the Rapture, but have also been known to play classical rock and classical music as well.
Tamar is now my regular stylist, but any of the stylist there would be just as great I'm sure. I cannot stress enough how friendly and welcoming they are here!
So, I came on yelp hoping to find a new cool/chic salon close to home. Beauty Lounge is what I've been waiting to find for a long time. After reading all the great reviews I made an appointment. I was really happy with my stylist as he knew exactly what he was doing. I have been there three times already and plan to go there in the future again. I was really happy with my experience there. It is well worth your $ and time. It located in old town Covina. Give them a try and ask for Gary.
After my previous stylist moved out of state, I Yelped around to find a new salon. My criteria was: someplace not too expensive because I'm a student; somewhere in the Glendora/West Covina area; and somewhere with a helpful phone staff because I was calling around to get information.
My first impression of TBLS was great because I called in and was able to score an appointment for the same day! They're open until almost 8PM on Thursdays, which is good for people with busy schedules like me. The girl on the phone was incredibly helpful and even recognized me by voice when I showed up at the salon.
The Beauty Lounge's decor was attractive with nice furniture; the music was great, setting a good ambiance. All of the stylists were young and trendy-looking, which gave me the impression that this was a salon with a younger clientele, but I later noticed that they had guests of all ages - including an older woman getting her hair done in the chair next to me. Everyone was very friendly; my BF and I were even offered beverages while we waited.
My appointment was with Shaun, about whom I cannot gush enough. We discussed my hair a bit and he figured out *exactly* what I wanted to do with it. On top of that, Shaun was very nice and easy to talk to without being over talkative.
He is also a genius with a blow-drier. I never blow-dry my hair because I'm terrible at it and others have had little more success, so I thought my hair just didn't react well to being blow-dried. But then Shaun worked his magic, and it was amazing. My hair looked gorgeous when he was done with it. Even though I didn't have any plans for that night, after I saw my awesome new hair, I was compelled to go out with my BF.
Other strong points are the affordable price, and first-time clients even get 50% off.
I just made my third appointment -- I love this place!
During my second appointment, Dedra was my stylist and she gave me the best haircut ever! My cut was stylish and appropriate for a conservative office environment. She helped me get out of the nasty hair funk that I've been in for the last... oh 8 years.
She was also very sweet and friendly, and like everyone else has said, the salon is cute and offers drinks :D
I heard about this place and all I have to say is 5 Stars!!!
This place is on fire! Tamar cut my hair short and fed me cake and wine. Thank you baby jesus for making me a hottie for the winter!!!!

I moved to L.A. four years ago from the Bay. Since then...I've been going from one salon to another because I was looking for a good stylist with reasonable rates. Just when I'm finally moving back home...ONLY NOW do I discover The Beauty Lounge Salon thanks to the yelp reviews.
My first visit was last Friday and it was a great experience. Love my hair, love the atmosphere, love-love my stylist, love the friendly service from the rest of the staff and really love the decent but not cheap prices. I wish I knew about this place a long time ago so I didn't have to waste my time with the other salons in Orange County or Hollywood. If I ever come back...I'll definitely have my hair done here and since they offer wine as one other their refreshments...I'll definitely say yes when they offer me a complimentary drink.
I have been a patron of the Beauty Lounge since day one. If I had to guess... it's been about two years. I make my appointments regularly every 6 to 8 weeks with Dedra (DD). I have never been disappointed. NEVER!!
I look forward to making my appointments, its like going back to see family! Not only can I depend on getting a good cut, but DD is the best colorist evaaaar! If you are anal about color, you must book an appointment with DD, she will give you exactly what you ask for! I've changed my look at least three times and DD has delivered!
I love DD and each of the sylist at the Beauty Lounge. I promise that after one visit, you will NOT be disappointed and be nothing less than IMPRESSED!!
As you all may know that I've been on a desperate search for a new fabulous Hair Stylist. Well honey!...I'm parking my g-ride and staying with The Beauty Lounge!!! (Fanfare! Fireworks! Champagne! Confetti!!!)
Dedra, Dede as her friends call her, is the owner. She cut and styled my hair like there's no tomorrow! She even introduced me to my new best friend "The Man Iron"! I had such a great time chatting with her and I noticed that as she chatted with me her hands just keeps on cutting like it's second nature to her! I bet she could have cut my hair with her eyes closed. Her assistant is super nice too as she shampooed my hair. All her staff made me feel at home and at ease, if I didn't have to go back to work they would have served me Mimosas and just took the day off hanging out with these people!
It has been such a long time that when I walked out of a salon I felt like I was walking on a cat walk feeling and looking fabulous!
Thanks Dedra, you the bomb chic!
If you're looking for a chic salon, this is the place to go to! They offer cocktails, and drinks and are at your service. It's flambouyant decor makes you feel like you're being pampered. I've been here to see Lisa Marie who is a doll to work with. Fortunately she helped me with my hair color correction and even gave me tips on how to maintain my tresses. What other stylist does that? In addition to her knowledge and expertise in the industry , she is pleasantly humerous with her stories and keeps you entertained while you're in her chair! Everyone in the salon is stylish & trendy, so no matter which stylist you work with, you won't be disappointed when you walk out of the salon.
the place has an unassuming exterior, but the inside is quite stylish and clean. judging from the reds and leopard print business cards, one might think that they specialize in rockabillly/greaser styles, but the stylists can do anything/everything from funky to classy.
not only is the salon aesthetically pleasing, but the stylists are super nice and not at all snobby. they will offer you coffee, a cocktail (no matter what time of day!), or whatever else they have on hand.
as for stylists, i highly highly recommend sara. i've been following her around from salon to salon since 2003 and i've never been disappointed. whenever i get a haircut from her, i always receive compliments from random people on the streets, in clubs/bars, at work and school. my best friend and her daughter are now loyal sara customers as well. her haircuts are well worth the drive to covina from the west side and affordable, as far as l.a. standards go ($45/cut and style).
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Finally, in my whole life growing up in SoCal, I found a place for an amazing stylist!! This place rocks, everyone is uber cool and Shaun is the man to ask for when getting your tresses done! I totally recommend this place - you won't be sorry!!
This place is great! You can't miss it and parking is in the rear. First time checking this place out: had an appt with Paul. He's easy to talk to and gave me tips on how to upkeep my hair too! Its been a couple of months since I got my cut and I still have people telling me they like my hair! Def give this place a try!
I have been to this establishment 2 times now. The ambiance is very retro-mod. They offer drinks (alcoholic as well, for those that need that extra push to cut off an extra inch) and reading materials. My hair dresser was Launi (and I think I am spelling it totally wrong... but she's petite with hot pink hair). The first time I came in, I was charged $65 for a totally rad haircut.
The second time I came in, I called and asked how much it would be for a cut and highlights (they don't highlight everything... you can either do the crown or full... totally ridiculous to me). I was quoted that it would be $95-110 for both (w/only the crown highlights). I set the appt. When I was checking out, they charged me $170!! When I told them what I was told upon making my appt. they just said, "well here's the breakdown of the cost." I found that totally unprofessional and false advertisement.
I won't come again.... plus the second hair cut wasn't all that great!
love the neauty lounge!!!!
Based on the previous Yelper's review I tried this place out and thought the place was warm, friendly, yet trendy. It is always a struggle to find someone who can make my hair look professional yet stylish and Shaun did a fantastic job with it. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!
sounds like monica s. hit this place on an off day. i decided to try sara out and was very happy with the results--i love my cut and $45 is more than reasonable. i didn't feel that it took too long to do my haircut, but i also felt like she spent long enough on it to do a quality job. it's a fun, funky vibe at the salon, which doesn't matter a ton to me, but livens things up. oh, and just fyi, the 50% off for first-timers only applies to certain stylists, depending on the arrangment they have with the salon, so if that's important to you, double-check when you make the appointment.
Just a day before I visited this place, I went to Universal Beauty in Rowland Heights for a highlight and color and came out with this fobby looking orange colored hair. Why is it that everytime I visit an Asian salon my hair always ends up looking fobby orange? Do they think that every Asian who walks into an Asian salon wants that fobby red or orange look? So I found this place on yelp and decided to get my hair fixed here based on all the rave reviews. I knew it was going to a be a bit on the pricey side but I didnt wanna waste anymore money and anymore stress on my hair getting it fixed, and they were able to book me on the same day. Since pretty much every hairstylist here got a good review I was willing to accept the next available stylist, which ended up being Luani. She gave me this super sexy Victoria's Secret model hair cut with mocha color weaved with caramel highlights and most importantly NO ORANGE! When I went to dinner at Olive garden right after, my waitress had even complimented my highlights and asked me where I got them done! Luani was really friendly and open, making her really comfortable to be around. And what I really liked is that she didnt book me with 2 or 3 other clients at the same time like some other stylislts that I've had in the past. The place even serves mimosas, coffee, water, etc which adds a nice touch to the service. All the workers there are really nice and theyre all really trendy and young, and I've been getting compliments on my hair ever since.
