I feel terrible for Christian P. and his horrible experience with Beau Sky, but I found that my week at the hotel was just about as diametrically opposite to his as could ever be.

After forcing myself to find hotel accommodations for my spring break in Berkeley after contracting a terrible flu and not wanting to infect all my friends, I found the Beau Sky to be the most convenient for the best price.  Hotel Durant thinks too highly of itself post-renovation, and the Berkeley City Club pretty much only caters to the Claremont's overflow.  I was quoted $110 a night plus taxes.

Upon check in I was told that parking cost an extra $10 a day, which I found worth it to be able to park close by whenever I wanted.  Although the parking lot is sketchily small, I never had a problem parking.  There was also a morning continental breakfast (eh, I sleep in past 11 on my breaks, when would I ever get to take advantage of that?) and added amenities such as free wi-fi (that I used allllllll the time, thank God for it) and Cal Rec membership for the duration of the stay (yeah, I was sick as a dog and it was raining the whole time, guess I don't feel so bad about not taking advantage of that), which I think are mighty nice to have.

Except for in the stairwell, I didn't smell any of the House of Curries at all in my room.  My bathroom, sink area, TV, night stand, and bed were all extremely clean and comfortable.  My home away from home was actually quite homely if I do say so myself.  I'm a lazy fat bitch and even I didn't mind that there was no elevator to carry all my sh*t up and down with.

I decided to extend my stay one night, and the guy at the counter helped me out with that, no problem at all.  I don't mind that the hotel front door closed at night -- I felt very safe that way, actually -- and had absolutely no problems getting in and out of the building.  The morning I left I had to leave a bit earlier than usual -- 7am-ish -- and wondered, where the hell is this 'continental breakfast' I've heard so much about?  Upon leaving my keys at the front desk I saw a coupon:  one free coffee and one free pastry across the street from Kingpin Donuts, which I LOOOOVE.  Score!

My mini-vacation's true purpose was achieved -- rest, relaxation, and some time in my favorite part of the world.  The Ritz Carlton Beau Sky was not, but it was a clean, comfortable, safe, reasonably priced, and overall great location for my getaway.  Don't know if I'll make it back (considering I only came up thanks to my generous tax refund), but the next time I decide upon a self-indulgent vacay, I'll consider it.  Thanks for taking care of me Beau Sky.

I stayed here once on someone else's dollar and thought it was fine because I thought from the looks of things that it was a cheap deal, maybe $50-75. But I just called and found out a single room is $130. Believe me, for how old and broken down this place looks and smells it is way not worth it! Indian restaurant below is definitely worth it though.

On a 5 Day stay in Berkely recently, I stayed in the Beau Sky Hotel, while I found the staff to be very friendly, and the hotel to be quaint, I was suprised by the high price of the rooms, with the low end of the hotel. The room was cold, they provided a space heater which struggled to keep the room warm. The room was very noisy (street noise, people in clubs in the late evening, garbage trucks, etc 6AM) No services to speak of, a photocopy paper to have a cup of coffee across the street from a donut store (It was good coffee!) parking was a additional $10 a day, added to the already high room rate. The shower was good, but the floors were slick tile, and only three towels and no bath mats. Sink in the room and a walk over the slippery tiles from the shower. sporatic maid service. I am happy I was here, But I would not come back.
