Here is the break-down...
4 stars for location and it's pretty new & nice
-2 stars for the crappy tenants that keep complaining up a STORM! Dude do you not have a life at all? If they drive badly and you lightly honk at them or stare at them, they will file a complaint to the building! WTF! We are not in grade school anymore and get a freaking life!
+1 star for the convenience of having Safeway right below, WaMu across the street and more
If I had to give this place a rating based on the crazy people **the few who ruin it for everyone else** I'd give it lots of minuses! As for the apts itself it's not bad and yes it does suck that there is NO AC but of course they keep the lounge/entrance AC'd very well.
Oh and another thing that is stupid and annoying is the door alarm. MY GOODNESS! It does absolutely nothing and it is so freaking loud and annoying!
Just thinking about this place upsets me a little! For the price you pay you would think this place would be better. I guess you just have to put up with it. I am so tempted to go on their forums or complaint area and give them a piece of my mind! =P
Stayed here for a couple of days on a weekend getaway to San Francisco. I was so taken back by this building, the condo itself, and the views! We were on the 16th floor and it was absolutely amazing. The condo was gorgeous as well, though I am sure that credit goes to the interior decorator. It was a cozy one bedroom condo with a washer and dryer and balcony overlooking the courtyard. If I could afford to and wished to live in San Francisco, this would be the place to be. The location is super convenient as well; it's right above a Safeway! I still think they should put elevators in the hallways that go down to the Safeway (without having to go outside). How sweet would that be?
Reasonably nice place. Excellent amenities, quasi-good area (depends on which way you turn after walking out the front door).
The quality of construction is on the low end of acceptable - not what you would expect from a "luxury" building. The financial side of the operation seems to be poorly managed by the HOA from my casual observations.
Bottom line is that anyone who is willing to pay 500K or whatever the market resale price is now for a 1-bedroom in this place is very deeply confused about life. I rent here from an individual investor (read: speculator) for about 1/2 the cost of owning a unit, but even then I feel kind of like a sucker when I send out that rent check every month.
Edit/update: Actually, on further reflection, this place is a total dump.
Come and meet your newest SF neighbor: MOI!! Just kidding!! I don't live here. I live with my psychotic and overprotective parents in San Jose, but I can pretend I live in SF on the weekends, right?
You will see me doing the following on the weekend: running like a maniac from the Cal Train station (a block away), picking up dry cleaning, buying groceries at Safeway (a couple of minutes in walking distance), cooking, cleaning, swimming in the lap pool, doing 30 minutes on the treadmill at the clean gym facilities, throwing mini dinner parties, eating at Primo Patio Cafe, drinking at District across the street, and any other domesticated things that I forgot to mention.
Considering that these units are fairly expensive (for their prime location), The Beacon facilities are somewhat neglected (stains on the hallway carpets and random miscolored paint patches on the wall).
Apartments that were converted to condos
You can feel that they were apartments with the quality of the work.
Electric ranges SUCK for cooking.
It's ok but there is better out there.
This place is wonderful! It has everything. A pool, a gym, Borders, a dog park, great staff, and it is in a perfect location.
Visited a friend who lives here tonight and parking was horrible. There was a game at AT&T Park and street parking was non existent, of course. All the nearby lots were charing $25 flat rates. INSANE. Just to visit a friend. They have ZERO visitor parking slots.
it has a lobby with locked doors, which is sad
but it has a recreational terrace, which is happy
now if only we had keys
I used to own a condo here and sold it after a year... thank gawd I did because I made a bit of money off it. Definitely loved the location as I overlooked the entrance to ATT Park and I loved the convenience of having Safeway, Starbucks, the bookstore, etc., right down stairs... plus I could grab a taxi easily and jump on the freeway with no problem. But the fact that these were apartments conversions, I'm sure you can get a better quality condo in the area.
I really like the Beacon. True there are more luxurious condos in a few blocks, but nothing is more convenient than living ABOVE Borders, Safeway, and Starbucks for the average working thirty-something. All within a block of the building - CalTrain at one side, Muni train right in front, bus to anywhere in the city on the back corner, and Ballpark at the other side - c'mon, you have super convenience without the crowd and chaos of being deep in the urban jungle. Sure game days can get crowded but is parking in SF ever really that easy, anyhere worth going to? Besides any other day, if you read the signs , you can get FREE parking w validation fr Safeway for 90min for, like, a $5 purchase or that the metered street parking is otherwise free on Sundays. I like the place, decent spot to get just about anywhere in the city on public transportation or stay right there and find plenty to do within walking distance.
