One of my favorite places but I am biased by being a friend and past employee. Great place to go! My favorite is boneless buffalo wings.

While vacationing on Cape Cod, we stopped in for dinner one evening at The Beacon Room in Orleans.  It had a nice homey feel with lots of wood and green plants - the kind of place where you might find good upscale comfort food.  We settled in at a nice table, nibbled on bread and scanned the beverage menu for some interesting cocktails.  Alas, none were noted so we just ordered some red wine and looked at our menus.  Our waitress immediately gave the impression of being overly busy, flustered and not that sure of what's going on.  Later in the evening, we chatted with the owner and asked if she was new but were told she'd been there for a few years.  Hmm.

The food itself was quite good. We started with panko and herb encrusted goat cheese served on a grilled crostini over greens and a dollop of apricot chutney.  Delicious! Equally tasty was blackened shrimp and sea scallops served over an Asian slaw.  For entrees we both ordered the 8 ounce filets which were decadently topped with a blue cheese compound butter and finished with a rosemary and port wine demi glace.

It was indeed upscale comfort food and we were happy to be presented with the desert menu but annoyed to suddenly see on it the specialty cocktail list we'd wanted when we first arrived.  We asked the flustered waitress why, at the end of our meal, we're now seeing the cocktail list and she sent the owner over to speak to us.  The owner actually admitted that she didn't know where to include that list so she just stuck it on the dessert menu.  Huh?

Quite frankly, we lost our appetite for dessert after that and chose to head back to our inn.  The following morning over breakfast, we mentioned the evening to our innkeeper and he immediately told us that he quite dislikes The Beacon Room because it's poorly run.  Oh, well.  The place has quite a lot of potential both in decor and food but needs much stronger management and customer service.

The Beacon Room is a gem on Cape Cod:  We have been regulars for quite a few years, now, and although we may "cheat" on Kate and her crew by lunching at other restaurants from time to time, we are inevitably drawn back to this comfortable, reliable and welcoming establishment.  The cocktails are literally overflowing.  Our faves are the Cosmos and the Moscow Mules (the latter served up in a copper mug).  Then there are the incomparable chicken tenders--tangy, truly tender, and better than any others you have ever had elsewhere.  Then there comes the problem:  Do we order the lobster croissant -- flavorful chunks of lobster on a flaky, fresh buttery crossant?  Or what about the open faced steak sandwich?  Or how about the open faced salmon sandwich, topped with cheese?  But then again, there is the fish special of the day, perhaps panko crusted cod with a side of delicately flavored greeens.  It's tough to decide which to order, without feeling you might be missing out on something else, so the best thing to do is have another drink.  That eases the decision considerably.  This time of year, the pumpkin cheesecake is a great dessert selection.  The staff feel like family -- the good kind of family who are warm but not obtrusive.  Long live the Beacon Room!

The Beacon is a place we head to when we want something a bit fancier. The cranberry & walnut salad is a favorite of my mother and aunt, and my father generally goes with a fish special.

I've had the filet mignon several times, as well as the Gorgonzola pasta, and they've always been absolutely delicious.

I've eaten here around 20 times with friends and family, and no one has ever had a bad meal here. The service is generally very helpful and friendly, if a bit slow sometimes.

This is NOT a place I would bring children to, unless you were going for lunch. For dinner, expect a long, leisurely meal with excellent cocktails. The appetizers, entrees and desserts are all absolutely fantastic.

It's a small restaurant, and can get packed in the summertime. Call ahead if you want to eat here in the summertime at peak dining hours.

    Highly recommended.

This is a charming place in Cape Cod.  The wait staff was very friendly and everyone had a smile on their face.  Three of us had dinner on a Monday night.  I was a little apprehensive when the basket of rolls were put on the table and they were cold and a tad bit stale.  But it was a Monday and I know many bakeries are closed on Mondays, so I let it slide.  We each ordered half of a salad (not sure if it says this on the menu, but ask for it).  The half salad was a generous portion.  We had Ceasar and also a gorgonzola-walnut-cranberry, which were both excellent.  I had the pan-seared scallops with risotto and the others home-made ravioli.  Everyone was extremely happy and still had some left overs for a doggy bag.  Great experience and can't wait to return!

The food here is very good. The service was slow. This could be because of a loack of staff after Labor Day.

I went there last night with my fiance and his family for his grandmother's 92nd birthday. It's a semi-fancy place and looked pricey, which it was. We were able to call ahead (no reservations) for a party of 6, which was nice, and our table was ready. The waitress was nice (young, pretty) and great at answering questions. Drinks came pretty quickly but it took an HOUR to get our food. Two people started with a cranberry-walnut-gargonzola salad which looked good and they enjoyed it. The bread was cold (big no in my book) and dry to everyone (I have a gluten intolerance, so none for me). My filet mignon was good, cooked well, and everything was on the side as requested. My fiance's shrimp scampi was good but the shrimp was tired. Surf & turf for Uncle was quite good. Scallops w/risotto was good for aunt. But, mom & g-ma did not like the duck at all. I could see that it was VERY dry from across the table! It was dry and inedible! What a shame for such a fine meal. The waitress took it back without any issue and their meals were replaced. We had noticed, in our HOUR WAIT, that several people returned their duck plates, so that is quite telling. All-in-all, not worth the $260 we all spent. I will not be going back there.

Don't get me wrong, the food at the Beacon is good.  The decor is very lovely.   The service is medium.   But for the price and what you get I think there are much better options in the Eastham/Orleans area.

I went to the Beacon Room this weekend, after reading that they won the Best Neighborhood Lunch 2007 for the Cape from Boston Magazine.  Overall, I was underwhelmed, but I think that might have been my own fault.  I ordered crab cakes (way too bready) and my friend ordered a fish special.  After, I thought about the 'best lunch' thing and realized we probably should have sampled more traditional lunch fare, like the Ruben or one of the other sandwiches on the menu.

If I were just rating the dried cranberry, gorgonzola and walnut salad though, I would give this place a full 5 stars.  It was one of the best salads I've ever had, and they put enough of the topping in it that you got some cheese/nuts/craisins in every bite.  Makes all the difference in the world.

I will definitely be back here for lunch the next time I'm in Orleans and I will for sure try a sandwich.  And of course get that amazing salad again.

I read the reviews and was wanted something other than a clam shack or a pizza joint. I was pleased with the decor and menu choices but disappointed with the meal, the service, and that they did very little for kids (just fried chix fingers).

We arrived at 1 pm on a rainy Monday and they were completely over-run for lunch.  The Warm Spinach & Chicken Salad had a flavorful sauce but none of the flavor made it into the chicken. The Bean Burger seemed to be made fresh looked promising but needed the salsa & ketchup for flavor.

The food might have stood up to a three stars but the service turned a lackluster meal into a bad one.  When I had to ask for a clean coffee cup I was told it "wasn't dirty but just stained from the coffee".  Our meal took 30 min after our appetizer to arrive and when we had to ask about our food, we were told, "they are just backed up right now" with no offer to expedite or bring us bread, refill our water, etc.  Aside for asking for our water to be refilled, I had to also ask for our plates and cups to be taken away to declutter the table.  Fortunately 45 minutes in to sitting down someone else noticed our three and a half year old getting antsy and brought us crayons from the kitchen.

The Beacon Room is easily my favorite restaurant on the Cape.  The food is absolutely delicious, service is great, the restaurant itself is utterly charming and comfortable, and the drinks are strong.  Prices are fair, especially compared to New York.

Every time I've eaten here I've walked away smiling. The staff go out of their way to accommodate guests, and the food is rich and filling (and probably very fattening, but oh well).

    Highly recommended.

Service was subpar, food hit and miss.

Hit the Beacon tonight for the first time, though I know a lot of people enjoy it. Its an odd place ambiance wise... I'd been told it was very casual, and to be sure, the people inside were. However, the actual restaurant tries to be a bit higher brow, white linens, etc, which is a little unsettling.

The menu looked great, with a series of higher end apps, pasta dishes, seafood dishes and house specials that were hard to choose from. We were then greeted by our waitress, and though it wasn't busy, she seemed.... underwhelmed and generally hassled to be waiting on us. She informed us that two key items were 86'd off the menu (steak and pork shank).  Oh well, helped me decide.

We went with caesar salad, wedge salad, veal parmesean and duck in a cranberry orange sauce.  Our waitress, who appeared intermittently, never once asked us how anything was, and held our drunks (soda) for 15 minutes, suggested I go with a half salad on my caesar, and I accepted. Glad I did. We also asked for the pasta that came with the veal parmesean to hold the tomato sauce.  We were informed there was an extra charge for this (for them to NOT put sauce on it). We said ok.

The caesar was more than substantial as a half order, and was completely decent, with not a lot of dressing and some homemade croutons. The wedge salad was ridiculous- atleast, as a starter. it might have been an entire head of lettuce, topped with an insane amount of bacon, dressing and three massive onion rings. Honestly, it was absolutely ridiculous. Could have been halved and still been huge.  Despite that, it was still very good.

Dinner arrived shortly thereafter. The veal wasn't bad, it just wasn't good, either. It was a very thick piece of veal with not a lot of tomato sauce, but a lot of cheese. It just wasn't balanced. This was an issue of prep. The pasta was just fine... it was spaghetti with olive oil, which had come at a premium:)

The duck was actually very good. It was not crispy skin as advertised, but actually, I preferred it as it came, roasted more than toasted- and the sauce was well balanced. I know it would be odd to comment on, but even the broccoli was well done (who talks about the vegetables?). However, rice pilaf in the middle was SO poor that we both spit it out. The texture, the taste was completely off.

The meal was expensive. Was it worth it? No. At a lower price, it might be worth a revisit, but as it stands, sorry. We waited 20 minutes for the bill to arrive, and then tipped as necessary for the poor service.

Having been to the Beacon Room a few times I remain fairly impressed and will continue to return.
It's a pretty small restaurant and they don't take reservations.  They do, however, allow you to call ahead if you have a decent sized party (4+ methinks) and put you on the list.  This has been clutch so many times as to extend pre-dinner cocktails.  Even if you call ahead, however,  there's a decent chance you'll be waiting a few minutes during peak season, but that's pretty standard for the cape.
The entrees top out around $25 which, given the caliber (granted I've only ever had some basic fare such as chicken saltimbocca, but you'd be surprised how many places can screw that up...the Beacon not being one of them)  and presentation, is a fairly good deal for the Cape.
    The waitstaff is fantastic.

Have been to The Beacon before and had much better results than my most recent meal there.  Surprised to be served a slice of limp white bread, supposed to pass for french bread.  Seems like they sent someone around the corner to star market for very poor quality bread, just short of being given a slice of wonder bread.   The entree, braised short ribs, came out just barely warm.  The meat was tender but poor quality - very fatty and wierd.  The mashed potatoes lumpy and flavorless.  The sauce was tasty, however.  The waitress seemed offended about my comments rather than taking them gracefully and passing them on to the chef or managment.  Won't be dining there again in the near future.  Our bill for two was $100.00.  A pretty big price to pay for mediocre food and service.

We have eaten at the Beacon Room 3 times.  Each time we have really enjoyed our meal, the waitstaff, the service.  We eat out often in Boston where you can find a decent restaurant on every corner, this place rates up there with some of my favorites, worth trying out.  It is usually crowded so if you don't want to wait, dine early (6:30) or so and you will beat the crowd.  Haven't tried the dessert, always too full, the meals are plentiful.  The owner is friendly, personable and available, which is always a good sign.
