Decent neighborhood bar. Great beer selection, attentive staff, and a kitchen that turns out much better than average bar fare.

This is a great townie bar. It's dirt cheap and the bartenders are all cool people. This is the kind of place where you feel instantly welcome when you sit down at the bar, like an Albuquerque "Cheers". In typical New Mexico fashion, the bar's very unassuming kitchen makes first-rate food. We came on Tuesday and it was "Taco Tuesday"- the tacos were freaking great and only a dollar each.
They have a good selection of microbrews for a non-pretentious bar. They have a ton of HD flatscreens so I could follow some baseball while happily drowning my sorrows.
The Barley Room is a cozy spot to chill out and have a brew with friendly peeps, on the cheap. I'm a big fan of this place. -

Went here Saturday night for dinner with the family. Never again will I eat here. The food was horrible. The only thing that was edible was the extra plate of fries we ordered. As for the beer, there is an extensive beer list, but they didn't have the first one my husband ordered, and the next one he ordered never arrived. They managed to charge us for it anyway, and then took 10 minutes to get it off of our bill. Awful food, awful service. Perhaps a beer on the outdoor patio would be all I would go here for.

Alright, so we gave it another try and I have to say I'm quite impressed by the attention the new management has given to customer service. We were immediately surprised by the level of attention and friendliness of the waitstaff during our most recent visit. They were constantly looking around for customers that needed attention and didn't walk by our section without checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Andy, the new GM, took over about 7 weeks ago and the change in management is definitely noticable. If you've had a less than desireable experience with the Barley Room in the past, I definitely would recommend giving them another chance. My wife and I will definitely be back. Great job Andy!

Great bar, good beer selection, laid back environment, they also play live music on weekends which is pretty good. The crowd though is much older so not really a good place for the younger crowd

Normally I would rate The Barley Room 5 stars, but Yelp seems to think I'm some sort of shill instead of a happy customer, so I'll see if 4 stars gets through their idiotic filter. EDIT: Bumping it up to 5 stars - let's see what happens.
Again, I love this bar. Now that spring's here the patio is warming up again, but I'll likely be inside at the high-side bar. It has a very neighborhood, comfortable feel here, with good food and good stock.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Decent bar for happy hour. While it isn't the hopping kind of place you'll find downtown or in Nob Hill, you will be able to get cheap eats and drink. They have a happy hour food menu too with $5 specials.

The food Sent me to the john!
The wait staff, were young, untrained, and Impatient, The Bands? some were good, some were horrible!
I personally noticed the owner lady buying Shots, for the "on duty" wait staff!
(Which if im not mistaken, is a violation of federal and state law!?!)

I was really impressed with this restaurant. Nice casual pub atmosphere inside (with patio outside). I had the green chili chicken fetticine and it had such a wondeful taste to it and I ate every single byte. They added all the right ingredients to it to make it special. My friend enjoyed his burger also. Glad it is within a mile from my home. I will definitely go again.

I love this place! After dealing with such shady and scary bars of downtown, I'm so happy to call the Barley Room my local bar ( even if I have to drive 10 miles to get to it). The food is amazing, the beers are excellent and cheap and the Karaoke participants are actually good singers! The bartenders are friendly too. The Barley Room is a refuge from the bario bars of the 'Burque.

i've been here a few times and had different things off the menu, NEVER been disappointed! the last time i was in the food came a little slow due to some mix up in the back, but hey it happens and the waitress was honest and up front about it and we enjoyed a cold beer while we waited!

I've been hanging out here for years, things to know. I don't eat at bars but hear they have good food. I also only sit at the tables if there's a large group so can't tell you to much about their table service. They have a great beer selection. They have the best pint of Guinness I've had in town. They have beers from New Belgium, O'dell, Widmer (right now they have KGB on tap have a ride ready before you have a pint) Stone, Redhook and others. They have a good scotch selection but they don't have a list so you gotta look for the bottle or hope the bartender knows what they have (The guys usually do) Tuesdays has been Karaoke for years and usually has a fun crowd, they just started it on Wednesdays as well. They have live bands every Friday and Saturday, I've really liked some of the new ones they're getting. The crowd tends to be a bit older, maybe 40-50 with pockets of 25-35 YO. Not to many amateurs in the bar. They have a large patio that I spend a lot of time on. Something important to me is that they have a security guard who keeps an eye on the lot overnight so it's OK to leave your car if something comes up or you need to take a cab.

We went on a Monday before the dinner hour got rolling. Our visit was the single worst restaurant experience I've had anywhere. When we first walked in, we noticed the place was muggy and warm. We should have left right then, because having a drink and anything warm would have guaranteed an uncomfortable experience in just a few minutes. So, we blame ourselves for not taking a major hint and leaving. However, not exercising good judgment, we took a seat. My companion ordered bottled beers, which were frosty and good. I ordered a Cosmo. It was weak to the point of seeming like cool Ocean Spray only, so I ordered no more drinks. I thought this odd, as I've had drinks there before, and they were good. We also both ordered the "surf and turf." The shrimp, baked potatoes, and vegetables were good, but the steak, for me, was literally inedible. My companion also thought his steak was extremely overly salted, but ate his because he was so hungry. The server and a manager argued with us over whether the steak I refused to eat could have been too salty--trust me, it was. I could not eat when it came out--I could not eat even after they had purportedly rinsed it off. It seemed brined. I left it on the table. The bill, even using a coupon, came to $40. I have never paid so much for food and drinks that were of so little value relative to price paid. At any rate, for $40 I could easily go to any number of other restaurants in town that have comfortable temperatures in the dining area and that have good steaks. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. I had always thought well of this bar & restaurant although we are infrequent customers, but I won't be going back. We did not get what we paid for, and I was left feeling taken advantage of.
