So much angst over the old versus new Barley House! Yes, it was a great bar on Henderson. But cast off the shackles of nostalgia so you can appreciate what's great about the "new" place -- which isn't so new anymore: A nice selection of beers and drinks, really tasty burgers, a good patio, an excellent juke box, good live music, and friendly people. (Although I must admit I did have a really miserable waitress once -- but only once, out the dozens of times I've been there.) Anyway, don't dismiss it just because some frat boys like it too. And remember, Sunday through Wednesday and for three months in the summer, it's practically frat-free (or at least low-frat).

Sure, it's not as cool as the old Barley House. And sure, on the weekends when the clock strikes 10pm, this "new" Barley House transforms into a huge SMU frat party.  My friends and I keep a running talley of how many of the same striped shirts we see there, and the count is currently in the hundreds.  But on a weeknight, this is a great place to be.  It's a friendly bar run by good people and you'll generally always see someone you know if you stop by for a beer.

Just make sure you're out of there by the time the frat party gets going.

3 words Pitchers of Beer. This is great when you are with a group. They also have some interesting live music. I just went on Wed. with a buddy and got 1/2 price food (good wings, but I was intoxicated) and $2 shiners to = $12.50 which is awesome for a chill evening. I like this place. Decent beer selection and the outdoor patio isn't half bad. Watch out for the SMUers though, thank goodness schools out.

It saddens me every time I hear the name Barley House . . . this was the greatest bar I had ever been to . . . it was the coolest place, with the coolest people . . . it was home . . .

Then they were forced to move . . . then it was decided that they should move to a location on Yale . . . then it was all about gaining the SMU crowd . . . then it was Bye Bye Barley House . . .

The new Barley House blows.

It saddens me . . .

This place has about the worst service I've ever encountered.  The waitress came out and suggested to our table (2 people) that we go to the bar to order, she wouldn't be able to handle us with her 1 other table (of about 6 people).  At least she was honest.

The only upside to this place is you can always fit a ton of people in it for happy hour.  Otherwise the food and drinks are not worth the hassle and wait when it comes to their service.
