I love the store and so does my pup Abigail. They have a great assortment of treats, food, and shampoo for your pooch. My favorite things are the mixes to bake your own dog treats, the nickle bags of cat nip, and the portable water dispenser for your dog. If you are looking to purchase a unique gift for an animal lover or your favorite pet look no further.

I have ventured into the Barking Cat more than once and was very impressed with the store and especially Jeff, the owner. He has done a fantastic job of creating a space that is very stylish and very interesting to the shopper. Most of the items sold here are high-end foods, treats, and accessories (No Friskies sold here!) Very pleasant shop, wonderful items for sale, and the best part is Jeff's attention to his customers and giving great service! I HIGHLY recommend everyone on the northshore to visit!

If you have a big dog, this place has the best selection around Salem. It's a trend now to have pet stores that only cater to small dogs, but at this place i can get big toys and bones. He also has a great selection of holistic foods, supplements and treats . Jeff, the shopkeeper is great, he ordered a dog food I was having trouble getting in the area.
This is a fantastic downtown pet store right on Essex Street in Salem. Jeff, the owner of this store, is always there waiting to greet your dog(s) with a smile, a pat on the head, and a treat. They carry high end mostly natural dog food, treats and chewies galore, and even some pet baked goods for special occassions.
My dogs love to stop in for a roofle. I like to get them some "Gimme a Kiss" bones to help with their terrible breath. I also think that it's very nice that they have a water bowl outside for dogs who happen to just be passing by. It's clear that this store loves pets. They also feature a 100% satisfaction or your money back guarantee on all items. You don't get that in the big box stores.

I LOVE this store. It's an adorable pet store on Essex street that has high quality treats for Dogs and Cats. There's a "bar" area with gourmet dog treats. Specially baked goodies for dogs and cats. Some clothes, leashes, and indestructable chew toys. The best part for me is the owner who knows me and my dog by name, and likes to come around the counter and give my pup a treat whenever I go in. I don't have a cat, but they have a thing called "Marinated mice"- little toy mice in a big bottle of catnip. How cute! You can also get a "Dime bag" of catnip. Very cute. A little pricey, but not as bad as petsmart!

I bought my cat a cute Patriots bandana that he wears tied around his neck at this store. I also bought some small cat toys. We almost died laughing at the crazy dog clothes! It was a little pricey, but very original. I just wish they had more cat stuff.
