VERY disappointed right now!  Almost speechless....

So I got a gift card from my bf for the Assembly about two months ago.    I kept driving by day after day after work not finding parking.

Today was the day I finally found parking and I found out they CLOSED!!!!! FOREVER!!!!  I want my money back!!!!!

what happened?  no number to contact?  no heads up?  just close in a few days?  what the hell?

if anybody knows what I should do let me know!!!!!

UPDATE (within 5 min!!!)

so I looked up the assembly website and found their email.
their response is that they had to close early birdie for lease issues and focus on their kid.  I will be reimbursed in the next week or so.  go to their website if you have any questions too!  They responded super fast and were nice!

I like them again.  :0)

EDIT 4/23/08

Still no word from the Assembly since the first time I contacted them.  I guess I will take this as a loss.  Too bad because my boyfriend really should get his money back!!!!!!

I stopped by here today for the first time even though I walk by the shop all the time on my way to American Apparel or Bread & Cie. It was pretty awesome and I picked up this amazing silk Boxfresh jacket that caught my eye when I first walked in. The style is kind of urban/industrial, which is awesome, but I'm more of a relaxed/classics kind of person. The best part of the shop was probably the lovely owner who was so incredibly sweet and friendly. In fact, my brother who hates shopping found both the owner and the store so cool that he asked to tag along next time I go shopping for myself. Anyone or anything that has that kind of immediate effect on him is pretty super- I spent 5 years begging him to upgrade his wardrobe and this store did the job for me!! Also, the baby in the store is the most darling kid I've ever seen.

I love the Assembly. Great clothes and Cool Employees. The Owner is especially Nice. Great addition to the Hillcrest area. Glad they moved from the Gaslamp.  If you are in a shopping mood check out the shops between 4th and 5th on University. I love all of them.

They have a lot of really cute, unique clothes. Often out of my price range, but I can usually find something I want that's reasonably priced. Like a skunkfunk jacket I'm currently lusting over. The sale rack is always marked down a lot, I got a cute pair of long shorts for $20 instead of $90 because they were missing a button! Unique handmade jewelry. Really nice employees, always helpful. Work by local artists behind register (probably for sale).

I think that I just found my new favorite store and apparently it has existed for quite some time. Tokidoki, gama go, skunk funk, triple 5 soul and a bunch of other labels that I have seen in other cities, but I didn't think existed here. Apparently, according to the super pretty and super nice girl that works there, they will be the first in San Diego with a new label called Fenchurch out of England. I can't wait!!

*** I am adding on to my original review, because I just learned that The Assembly is closing, what an f'in' shame. It was the only game in Hillcrest, that was for sure and the coolest thing about going there was that you didn't have to be this super hip head up your butt a-hole  fashionista to shop there. The kids that worked there were awesome and even if I didn't walk away with something in my hands, it always fun just to go there.  It was neat trendy quality clothing with a serious urban appeal.  Gonna miss it!! ****

It's kind of fancy for a rough and tumble guy like me. I do this whole roll out of bed, find a shirt off the floor, hop on my bike and if I am lucky find a date who doesn't care that I don't have a car and a stable income. It does get a whopping four stars from me though because the girls in there are pretty (and nice). I have been there a few different times and each time there has been a different girl and each one has been puurrty. The baby that hangs out there is super funny too, especially when he is throwing t-shirts to the floor.

The setting is industrial and sparse.  The cute girl who works there is a sweetheart.  The clothes are made by very famous designers overseas who are total strangers here.  Time to learn about Nostalgia, Gsus and Formarina, just to name a few.  Nostalgia is a boyfriend and girlfriend company from Canada.  Their line includes grungy tees with the sealed faces of Brigitte Bardot and other icons.  Most of the other brands originate from Spain, where fashion design is profusely active lately.

Pretty neat store. It has all the trappings of a "boutique", but is more industrial in its feel and the prices are very reasonable. I picked up some cool t-shirts for my man. However, there is this baby that belongs to one of the girls there (perhaps the owner?) and is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Omg, this kid has the biggest blue eyes with cupid lips. This kid should be the next gerber baby.

Also, isn't this place in Hillcrest next to Babette's?

The BEST PART of the ASSEMBLY is the selection of clothing for both men and women along with the price points!

The stores style is not of west coast style, but feels like a east coast store- simple yet  creative in design.

Don't let the parking ini Hilcrest turn you off ...If you park in the lot behind the building they will validate!

shop local- better experience and service!
