These guys are just great. I've been going to them since 2002 and even after moving to Marin, I'll trek to the city just to get them to frame my things. Have used several frame shops and they are, hands down, the best. Won't go anywhere else.

I had 6 pieces of artwork that needed framing and they helped pick the right frames, were cost conscious and got the job done quickly. I would use them again. They are very professional and I like how they paper and wire the back of the frames.

Went there today to have an old frame repaired. We agreed on the following Sunday as a deadline. To my surprise, I got a call at 10 til 5 saying it was done! I told him I was 20 mins away -- he then said, no problem, he'd keep the shop open a bit later so I could pick it up. But don't let the quick turnaround fool you -- he did an amazing job with the frame. Great work, great service, great prices...yep, I'll be a customer for life!

Great customer service from a small locally owned and operated business. What more can you ask for, really? The other day Joe helped me quickly with a small repair, and it reminded me how I had not yelped all of the fabulous framing work Artisans has done for my husband's photography.
Thanks, you guys are great! -

Joe and his staff are amazing. They can turn a picture into a piece of art. I need a couple of pieces for my office and I trusted Joe's advice and guidance. The result is amazing, I love it.
Prices are reasonable and you get VIP treatment every single time. Joe truly care about his clients and that is a rare e treat nowadays. -

This is an example of a place where customer service goes a long way. Normally I would have walked in, gotten an estimate and headed over to the famous chain on Lombard. However, the man behind the corner was so kind and knowledgeable that after the first quote (custom framing) was too expensive for my budget, he showed me the DIY option without hesitation. I walked out with a matte board and a beautiful golden frame for my Indian cloth print.
I saved myself $60 and a walk across dangerously-crazy Lombard ;-) -

The Artisans is a classic example of the adage, " you get what you pay for." Their prices usually run as much as the art I've had them frame. That said, they do first class, stunning work. I've taken 1 canvas and 2 paper prints here for framing and all of them turned out incredibly well. Each time, they helped me select a frame that would complement my art beautifully and the finished result exceeded my already high expectations.
Their service is excellent and they meet their delivery deadlines. If you've invested in art, this is the place to trust with your purchase. Very highly recommended!Listed in: Navigating the Marina

I love the Artisans! Despite being in the pricey Cow Hollow neighborhood, this shop is a little gem - reasonable prices, amazing customer service, knowledge of product and it's a small family run business. Just what I am looking for!
Whenever I buy "real" art, I take it to Joe at the Artisans. Not only is he personable (as is the rest of the staff) but he has the artists eye. He has helped me frame several pieces and he gently makes suggestions that have enhanced each piece - ideas that I would never have. After the first couple of pieces, I just ask him now what he would suggest. He always has an idea of how to make your artwork pop!
I am always excited to see my art when I pick it up and I have never been disappointed. I cannot recommend The Artisans enough. Take your special piece in and enjoy it for years to come! -

I went here awhile back and I just recommended it to a friend, so I thought it was time to write a review.
The missing star is for the prices. I mean, framing shops are always big rip-offs in my humble opinion, but this one seems a tad higher than most. So why would I recommend it, you ask? Did I have a hidden agenda plotted for my unsuspecting friend?
No, nothing that interesting. Just great customer service. The time I went there, I ended up not buying anything, but even once they knew I probably wasn't buying anything, they still treated me like I was spending a million bucks. Which is just slightly less than their frames actually cost. Just kidding! But seriously, the customer service is EXCELLENT. -

The only place in SF to get your photos/artwork/posters framed!
I've been going to Joe for all my framing work for years and they do absolutely the best job! Your photos, artwork and other keepsakes are in great hands...Joe and his team know exactly what frame type or color to bring out the best of your artwork. They are pricey but well worth it. -

I was shopping on Union St. one day and went into the frame store because they had some awesome Dr.Seuss prints I had never seen before. Joe, the owner began a conversation with me just about appreciating Dr.Seuss' artwork and how great they were. He was such a pleasant man to talk to I knew I'd be back with any art that needed to be taken care of. Since then, I have had 4 pieces framed and stretched by Joe and his crew. They have so much patient in helping you choose the right way to frame or preserve your art. Not only are the frames beautifully constructed but they make sure to protect your wall at home by perfecting the back of the canvas or frame as well, something I had never thought of. He also gives you some picture hangiing nail hooks as an extra perk. Work is done pretty quickly too, usually 1 week turn around. I LOVE THEM! And I will continue to go to them for all my framing needs.
Side Note: They do sell some wonderful Bay Area related artwork, photographs & posters.. something to broswe over while you look around. -

The owner, Joe is awesome. I was casually trying to find pictures of the location where I'm getting married, The Officer's Club in the Presidio. When they didn't have what I was looking for, he informed me that he is also a photographer and his wife is a painter. They could even do custom work! While I didn't decide to go that route, I did find a great alternative to a "guest book" and the pricing was very reasonable for custom framing. Very quick service, friendly as it gets and great follow through. I also feel good supporting a local business.

Joe and his team at The Artisans have been creating beautiful frames for my wife and I for over 7 years now. We've bought some prints from them as well and everything remains as beautiful as the day we picked it up. Joe spends a lot of time with us asking about the room, the lighting, the colors of near-by furniture -- without ever seeing where we plan to hang a piece of art he helps us come up with wonderful framing.

I highly recommend The Artisans. Joe & Irene gave my daughter her first piece of art at 12 years old. She loves to visit Joe and Irene when she's in town. # 1 in framing # 1 in spirit Joe and Irene! Thanks for being so beautiful and loving Fashion Designer Valerie Valentina

First of all, you have to know that framing artwork is expensive. That said, The Artisans is the best place I've ever used. I've taken 8 pieces to have framed at this place. Every time, they've been so helpful in suggesting frames and mats. If you need something framed, take it to The Artisans.

I found "The Artisans of San Francisco" by chance after a stroll on Union street. I wanted to frame a large watercolor that was very dear to me... After an awful experience at "University Art" in Palo Alto (never go there...), I was scared to give my water color to a random framer. In the end, I went inside "The Artisans of San Francisco" and got a good feeling. I had it framed by them. They gave very good advice and did an excellent job with the framing (and I am picky...): no dust under glass, great care in handling the art work, no chipping on the frame, very short turn around (2 weeks), and truly with museum standard (which other frame shops claim wrongly...).
I would advise anyone who need very good frame job to go to "The Artisans of San Francisco". In addition to be very professional, the staff was friendly. Also, I like giving my money to small businesses vs chains... -

I can't say enough good things about my Artisans experience. They do great, consultative framing work and epitomize customer service. If you are going to make an investment in artwork, you should definitely go all the way and get it framed properly! Joe and his team definitely go the extra mile.

I went here last week for the first time and was very impressed by the helpful and friendly staff. I can't remember the name of the man who helped me but he was great in keeping within my budget and was super kind to put the frame and matting together while I ran a few other errands. Will definitely go back in the future!
