Just got back from the Hitchcock Film fest had a fabulous time. Reasonably priced concessions, very helpful staff. The Artcraft is a sparkling gem in the middle of Indiana corn country. The community is in support of this art and I hope it continues we will be back as much we can...remember, it is 5 hr drive! It has been a long time since I watched a movie on film, it was fantastic! THANK YOU!

Only reason I gave it 4 stars... distance. It is a 5 star venue!

Franklin, I feel like you have been hiding the Artcraft from me. I never remember seeing a billboard on the highway or a sign with arrow reading "Coolest Fucking Theater in Indiana."

Franklin, the people need to know. They need to know that classic cinema lives on the other side of that beautiful, glowing marquee. That you can relive the first time you saw the Muppet Take Manhattan, the first time you saw Jimmy Stewart struggle with Vertigo, the first time you saw King Arthur lop off the Black Knight's arm...

I visited the Artcraft for the first time to see Killer Clowns from Outer Space at the B Movie Celebration, and it was magic before the film even started.- This is a beautiful, old building with one gigantic screen. This is one of those rare buildings that takes you back in time.- The smell, the lights, the decor- it is definitely a little dilapidated but in great condition nonetheless. It's just old.

Before the film began a gentleman from Fangoria came out on stage (Yes, it has a stage) to introduce the film. To my surprise he continued to introduce the creators of the film- the Chiodo Brothers- who were in attendance. Then what did he do?- He handed the mic over to none other than Joe Bob Briggs who proclaimed his love for the film and read his original review for it.

People throw the word "gem" out a lot. The Artcraft deserves this word. It owns it.- I can't wait for the Hitchcock Festival in March!

I went to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail at the Art Craft Theatre.  It was my first time there, and I had a great time.  The seating area is huge--I'd forgotten that theaters used to be large when not crammed next to 14 other theaters.  The staff (or maybe volunteers?) interact with the audience for a few minutes before starting the movie.  There is a raffle with goofy prizes.  (Mostly coconuts and spam at this show.  They also had costumed French soldiers throwing small stuffed cows at patrons while shouting insults from on top of the marquee outside.  If you don't know the movie, that really won't make any sense.  But it was pretty darn funny.)  The audience really gets into the activities.  They show a Looney Toons cartoon before the movie.  (Not my cup of tea, but for other non-fans, it is a great time to visit the bathroom without long lines.)

The tickets are only $5.  College students pay just $4.  Tall people will appreciate the fact that there is a LOT of leg room between rows of seats.  The concessions are also quite reasonable, at least compared to modern theaters.  I got a small popcorn and large Coke for just $5.

A tip for first timers--if you want food and it looks like the line is really short, it probably wraps around the corner out of site.  It is easy to accidentally cut in front of a dozen other patrons hiding around the corner.  That is a bit embarassing!

We went to the Artcraft for my mother's birthday to see her favorite movie, "It's a Wonderful Life".  I grew up watching movies here (Jurassic Park!), and have been to the B-movie festival to watch some great crappy zombie movies.  This place is great, but be prepared to spend twice the length of an average movie, as they do intros, skits, giveaways, old-school cartoons, and an intermission.

Such a cool place! I met some friends to see The Princess Bride last night. The capacity was near 800- Tickets for the movie were $5 (for adult). Before the movie, they did a couple raffles and gave away a few prizes.
They had everyone stand for the National Anthem, and the crowd sang together. I didn't sing- That's not really my bag. Not that I'm not patriotic. I just don't sing along with people I don't know- unless maybe I'm under the influence.
They also played a Looney Tune before the movie came on. Everyone loved it.
The picture quality was really great- It was so neat to see The Pricncess Bride on the big screen. The whole theater was in really great shape, too.

I got popcorn, water and Raisinets for $5- So great price there, too.

I'm not here to say that we all have to flee metro Indy for anything interesting...yet I find myself taking more road trips outbound often...like the one I took to Franklin, IN to see Hitchcock's Rear Window.

Before anything else...no other theatre in metro Indy would screen Hitchcock...nor is there another theatre that regularly screens classics.

I went to the Artcraft as a kid and it hasn't changed. One giant theatre with plenty of space...and plenty of springs up your tailpipe, so get ready to wiggle through the whole thing.

The Star-Spangled Banner being sung and projected onto the screen is worth the price of the admission. Every time I go to this place I feel like I'm in the Last Picture Show, and that's a testament to their unwavering sense of nostalgia here, and their big heart for great cinema.

The prices are if they turned back the clock, too. And the proceeds go to a Historical Society.

If it means 30 miles South of the City to trek for something like this...then so be it.  If you get there early...there's an old hotel/bar next door...stick with the libations though.

This place is a great place to watch movies! I haven't been here for quiet some time now, but from what I know they just play classic films but still worth going to! The theater is very vintage built in 1922, and if you love those kinds of theaters, trust me, go check this one out! They really keep it clean and looking good inside and out! Ticket prices are very cheap and the snacks and popcorn are excellent!!!
