Very traditional American food served with a modern touch in a beautiful setting dating from 1809. Delicious and a pleasure to be here. You must go here if you travel the 95 between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

This is why travelling is such a joy, because you get to discover places like New Castle, and feel like you are the only person who's stumbled onto its magic. This little town could easily be in England with its narrow streets, the door steps and houses almost on the edge of the road. Some enlightened and worthy people have saved this place and its gorgeous brick buildings. Best of all, real people live in them, so they are kept in excellent order. The whole town could be a museum, but is fortunately very alive, and does not feel touristy. A walk down to the water's edge will soothe your soul.

I've been going to the Arsenal 2-5 times/year for 10 years. Every time, I HOPE it will be better. I've had some good meals, and occasional good service. Usually, however, it's a serious disappointment. I like to go to the dining room for a more formal meal, so I'm not speaking about the bar area.

    -they routinely misplace reservations
-once, they substituted rye bread for Bruschetta.
    -service can be crazy slow.
-menu choices keep getting more narrow.

I've given it five or six "last chances", and I keep hoping. From now on, I'll keep driving sown Rt. 9 to "Crabby Dick's". I give up.

After having eaten at Jessop's tavern down the street, I was excited to try The Arsenal...supposedly the more "formal" of the two restaurants.

Although in a lovely old building in Old New Castle, the Arsenal lacks the cozy charm that I enjoyed so much at Jessops. Service was friendly, and the food was fine...didn't knock my socks off. I had braised short ribs over mashed potatoes. The meat was tasty, but the potatoes were pasty. Everyone else I was with had a similar dining experience (OK, but not a place we'd go back to).

In addition, we had made a reservation, but it wasn't busy and they sat us in the bar. 15 minutes after we arrived, a live band started playing, which made conversation impossible (we were entertaining out of town guests, and went there hoping for a nice, quiet, conversational meal).

Sorry, but next time I'll be heading across the street to Jessops. And you should, too.

She has a passion and understanding for what people want and can anticipate their needs. She feels at ease weather it is a black tie event or a corn boil on the patio i marvel at her ability to keep it all together as chaos reigns and I dont think I have ever seen her sweat
