I was a little reluctant to go to a mental health counselor because it can be a daunting task to find the right one. After falling deeper into a feeling of loneliness and sadness, I decided to do some research to find someone in the area who I would be comfortable with. After calling a few places, I didn't really want to find someone. However, I decided to give it one last try, and I'm glad I did. Nancy Shands was the only to call me back. She was very sweet and understanding on the phone. when I went to see her the first time, she was sympathetic and even dropped her prices due to me going there cause of my sister's death. I could tell by that gesture that she wasn't doing it cause she saw dollar signs, especially when my health insurance was not covering it. Nancy is very easy to talk to, and actually seems genuinely interested in my life, feelings, and pain. In a matter of minutes, I didn't feel like I was talking to a total stranger. Usually, I shut down, and I don't let anyone know my feelings, so I was surprised that I quickly opened up. I found out today that she has a waiting list to see her, and I felt special knowing that she had a waiting list, and still saw me due to the pain that I am in cause of my sis. If you can, definitely put yourself on the waiting list to see Nancy Shands. It's worth it!
