ok so i was holding out to give an unbiased review after "that one" finished her first two week session @ TAA.  i can hold it no more.  today we went for our second day of classes(we have MWF classes), and i'm officially a fan of Charyl and The Aquatic Academy.

let me start by saying, "that one" had lessons last summer at the high falootin Pearland Swim Academy.  after two weeks of camp there, i basically paid $200 for her to sharpen her pool socialization skills.  the class ratio for her age at that time, was 3 students to 1 coach, who by the way was a very nice High School kid, but not a great instructor.  "that one" nearly drowned the first class, while he was working with one of the other students and his back was turned to the other two.  but why am i bringing up old stuff?

ok, so fast forward to today.  monday was our first lesson with Charyl @ TAA.  we lucked out and basically have a private lesson, as no one else registered for our time slot!  love that!  Charyl was able to acquire the confidence of "that one" much sooner than i anticipated.  her method of teaching is patient but persistent.  i am so impressed with how much my little mermaid is already accomplishing  and even aspiring to do.

check out her bio on her website, she's got it going on!  even her own kids are little fish!

My 6-yr old was terrified of putting his face in the water.  He would scream in the bathtub if he got water in his face or eyes.  After 2 sessions at the YMCA, he still did not get over his fear of going underwater.  After hearing from other friends about the Aquatic Academy, I decided to give it a try.  My son didn't want to go the first day.  He kept repeating that he didn't want to go underwater.  Charyl was his instructor.  Charyl was so patient with him but at the same time, she was stern in a motherly way.  After the first 30 minute lesson, my son was swimming from one side of the pool to the other, completely underwater!!  After we got home, he was so excited to tell his Dad that he LOVED to swim underwater!  After 4 sessions, we went to our local pool and he was doing underwater flips!

I highly recommend Charyl and The Aquatic Academy.  The lessons are held at her home so there are no distractions from a crowded pool. Most of our classes have been private lessons with only a couple of them with 1 other child so the attention my son gets is phenomenal.  A lot of instruction gets put in the 30-minute time slot and my son is exhausted after this short time.  Charyl is also a swim team coach so she teaches the proper techniques of each swim stroke.  I love that!!  5 stars isn't enough!  I give 10 stars!!!!!

History

Established in 2007

I started out wanting my own children to be safe in and around the water.  As our neighbors, and friends began using our pool, I began teaching everyone how to swim.  Once I started teaching neighbor A's cousins neighbors friend, I decided I should make this official.

Currently we have 3 instructors, and I am the head coach for the Heritage Park Wahoos (www.wahooswimteam.org)

Meet the Business Owner: Charyl T.

Charyl Teal has been swimming since the age of 3. At 16, Charyl gained her first Lifeguarding Certificate followed by her Water Safety Instructor, First Aid / CPR, and Pool & Beach Management certifications. For the next 10 years, Charyl worked for the City of Columbus, Easter Seals of Ohio, The Ohio State University, and the YWCA of Columbus. She coached several Swimming & Diving teams and taught nearly one thousand people with varying skill levels how to swim.

After getting a Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering Technology, working for NASA & Apple computer, Charyl started a family. Not wanting her children to miss out on the joys of swimming, Charyl began teaching her children how to swim. Realizing the hazards of home pools, Charyl set out to make her neighbors safe around the pool.

Now armed with re-certification, Charyl hopes to continue bringing her love of swimming to others, while making them safer in the water.
