I have yet to try their bacon wrapped hotdogs, as yummy as they looked. I did however, was very grateful for this place, as it not only served fatty foods, but also balanced it out with offering a fruit stand (the kind where they cut up fresh fruit for you!), as well as healthy fresh squeezed drinks, and bionocos (apples, canteloupe, and strawberrys in a creamy pink whipped cream w/ granola). The bionocos was DELISH!
Thank you, Alley Dog. I wasn't expecting to find any healthy options in Santee Alley. :) -

The pupusas here are great. I haven't had a chance to try a bacon wrapped hot dog but they smell amazing. It's in Santee Alley so don't expect this place to have lots of seating. There is a small area that seats 4 people but that's it. I'll definitely stop by to pick up an alley dog when I find myself in Santee Alley again.

After a failed shopping trip to Santee Alley, my friends and I were famished and excited to come across Alley Dogs. While the bacon wrapped hot dogs smelled amazing as usual, it was a bit early in the day and we didn't have enough alcohol in us to want them. Instead, I went with the pupusa, which was a hefty serving for $2.75. I also wanted a side of fried plantains, but they were out of them. In fact, they seemed to be out of a lot of things. But the items they did have were pretty good, like the carne asada quesadilla.
I suggest you take something you can eat while walking because they only have one small counter with four stools or so. I also found it odd that the only drink size they had was an enormous big gulp sized cup. They had other cups out there but weren't offering them for the sodas. So when I just asked for an empty cup so that I could share my friend's huge soda, they gave me a teeny little styrofoam sauce cup sized cup. Odd. They also charged me for using my credit card. So no, I'd say this place doesn't focus too much on customer service, but I will say the guy at the cashier was very friendly and I guess it's not his fault that his place of business has odd cup rules and credit card surcharges. -

Danger Dogs without much 'danger!'
The problem I have with bacon wrapped hotdogs sold by the street vendor is the issue of running water. Where are they cleaning/preparing the food if there is no running water? In the some public restroom?!?
Alley Dog is conveniently located in Santee Alley where you can enjoy your hot dog and have fun people-watching all the shoppers running about. I have not tried much of there Mexican food selection except for the taquitos and they were pretty decent. -

Every time I go down to the Santee Alley for bargin shopping, we stop at the Alley Dog place. You HAVE to stop here - you can smell the bacon wrapped hot dogs and grilled onions / bell peppers frying from about a mile away (no kidding!). They have a store just about on every corner of the Santee Alley shopping blocks!
I purchased 4 hot dogs for my family - all bacon wrapped topped with grilled onions and jalapenos! Ooh-My-Gawd-Delicious! It was smothered with ketchup and mustard! We washed it down with an orange soda!
The stop also has fresh fruit cups (with pepper powder), yogurt cups, and drinks. $3 for the hot dogs! I think the drinks were $1 each! -

Ahhhh bacon!!!! Bacon wrapped around a hot dog?! Heck yes!!
Well we walked all around the Santee Alley and passed about 10 carts so we stopped here because they had seats!! I seen the "special" which was an alley dog, can of soda, and a bag of chips for 5$!! WHAT A DEAL!!! I got one and split it with my son and took a bite into this delicious concoction... MEH. It was ok, super greasy and really kinda bland!! I only had a few bites because I swear I heard my arteries clogging!!
I ate my cheetos, drank my diet coke, and then off we went. My bf said they were yummy, but also felt shitty after!! -

In the middle of all the hustle in the alley there is a corner stand with a walk up window called the Alley Dog.... We come here every year to enjoy the best bacon wrapped hot dog on earth. That is not it we go to the window and order some great food I always get the carne asada huarache. They never go wrong every year I get a delicious masa patty topped with all the goodies. To eat here is worth fighting over a table with rude people who just want to sit instead of eat. You must be a customer to use the tables just a little FYI.. lol but anyway do not leave your table or anyone will just sit with you and eat. No matter what whatever stranger that sits next to me will see me indulge into this oh so good food. I pay no attention because I am in my own world. I am making myself hungry just thinking about it.. Now I really cant wait to back to California. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yum Yum! Where can you go wrong with a hot dog wrapped in bacon? My only concern is the cleanines of the grills the dogs are cooked on and how fresh everything really is but overall I took the risk in the temptation of the Alley Dog! It was good just wanted my bacon more crisp. For less then 5 bucks and considering the location it is a bargain amongst everything else located down here. I am glad I can say I had it at least once.

Seriously. Bacon could sell anything. A bacon-wrapped hot dog is best after a night of drinking or clubbing, after something eventful, but not while shopping. True, the smell of bacon on the grill is intoxicating... but the bacon-wrapped hot dog should be savored on occasions. The everyday snack will nullify its true power for when it counts, on those late, late nights. Just my opinion.
Monkey did a dog, but also prefers it as the dessert to the buffet of alcohol. A bacon dog at 5pm in the Santee Alley just didn't do it justice.
$3.50 for the dog
$5.00 for the dog, soda & chips
$5.00 for fresh fruit & yogurt
Service is quick and friendly. Monkey hopes to find the bacon-wrapped hot dog much later in the evening... -

In the city, you have to wait til late night, drunk and belligerent, to find those scrumptious, mind-blowing bacon wrapped hot dogs. In LA, Santee Alley has them in every corner during the daytime.
Of course, you can't settle for just any one stand. We rejected about 5 stands before finally stopping at Alley Dogs. Their hot dogs looked and smelled delicious. And heck, we were sober!
We loaded the hot dog with grilled onions, jalapeno, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. So bad but so good! =DListed in: Snack Attack!

Everytime we come to the Alley we need to make a stop by the Alley Dog stand. Oh! how I wish the Bay Area have the Bacon Wrap dog stand during daytime hours and deliver to our office.
Their taco is also a great price and its juicy. Overall, if you come to the Alley don't miss out on their hot dogs. -

Imagine my horror when my little sister says to me on our to go shopping in the Santee Alley, "I've never had a bacon wrapped hot dog". It was like nails on a chalkboard.
How did this happen? My dad was the one who introduced me to bacon wrapped hot dogs many years ago when I was a sweet little girl. Has he gotten lazy or what the hell? I didn't wait to find out.
While shopping I was hoping to find a hot dog vendor but they weren't around so, Alley Dog it was.
2 bacon wrapped dogs (which you have to order from the window, not the cart right out front, what the?) and 2 large Cokes to quench our thirst from the hot So Cal sun and of course the mob of people cramped in the alley, $10. And they were just "eh". The dogs came with grilled onions and we added mayo and ketchup. But it just wasn't the same. I longed for illegal hot dog man or woman.
I'm convinced the carts are better. I don't know, maybe its the illegal factor that makes them taste so delightful.
They have quite a menu, everything from chilaquiles to tortas to hamburgers. Somethin' for everyone! Plus, they've got some tables for their customers with umbrellas. Sweet, sweet shade!
My sister loved her bacon dog, but she's a rookie. Wait till I get her a REAL one.Listed in: Places Whose Cherry I've…

Bacon-wrapped hot dog, awesome. Topped with grilled onions and jalapenos? SCORE!!
$3 for the dog by itself (it's a pretty big one) and $4.50 for the combo (dog, bag of chips, and a can of soda). Get your grub on! -

Lots of random food choices here - I had the bacon wrapped hotdog. It was an okay serving portion - but the bacon was non-existent. I was basically eating a hot dog with onions. It was still great. I spent about $5 on a Hotdog and drink.
Next time though, I think I will try the random street stands on every corner. Serving portions look larger, and I think I can bare with eating at a place not regulated by the LA public health dept. -

Ahh the Santee Alley experience surely is not complete without an Alley Dog.
This is one helluva great hot dog. The bacon and the creamy avocado pico de gallo on top makes this a unique and fabulous treat.
I ate 2! -

DO NOT ORDER any of the torta's stick with what you know. The amount of chicken is laughable. the taste of the torta was plain, i had to drench it in ton of hot sauce to get any flavor. for 5.50 for a torta is ridiculous. They tried to copy maggie's tortas and try to sell it at a cheaper price but they failed. I would gladly pay 8.50 at Maggie's than this cheap wanna-be for 3 dollars less.

I was a little leary getting tacos at this corner joint in downtown LA, but I was hungry and the intoxicating smell of grilled meat was calling my name... I was very surprised with this joint! It was delicious!
Tacos al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos was so scrumptious! Will need to return and to get the hotdog! -

The Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog was sinfully delicious! It made the perfect high cal, high cholesterol snack made for a full day of shopping around Santee.
