Great location but there was only one show open on our visit. We were a group of 25 HS students coming from Tucson and were running a half an hour late and our docent did not wait. So we wondered around the museum and were chased out the door 10 minutes before the museum ended. The historical area was better than the art area but I loathe historical exhibits at art museums. They also told us they were going to charge us differently than they said. Overall a fairly disappointing occasion.

The Albuquerque Muesum has been recently renovated and expanded.  i like the permanent edition on the subterranean level depicting Albuquerque's beginnings.  As a kid I was mesmerized with what was there-- the armour and the Duke of Alburquerque (and yes I spelled that correctly) coat of arms tapestry.  it was a place for me to go to dream about what life was like in this frontier and the ancient cultures that have legacied here.  My mind would wander and in winter leaving the compound of the museum I would smell a fragrant pine wood burning in someone's fire place.  Ahhh... those are the days my friend and those are the days....  This place brings back many memories and the art collection is pretty regionalised and you will not see very many stand outs but go anyway!

This place is truly a treat. It's a superb retelling of the history of the city and what life was truly like for my ancestors (10th generation New Mexican ... even though I live in Atlanta, I'll always be a New Mexican!). I loved seeing the armor and weapons. Definitely worth seeing; next time you have friends in town, take them here. It will give them an appreciation for the Duke City.

this is a pretty nice museum. the outdoor sculptures are really great. though the museum itself is not huge, they usually have several interesting exhibits at a time. the "focus on youth" photography show, which gets put up in the spring, is such a treat to see, as the student photographers are really talented. i also like that they have a children's area, which even has historical costumes that the kids can dress up in...my six year old sister raved about this. the best part is that the museum is free on sunday mornings from 9-1. we went to the museum and then out to brunch and it was a great morning!
