Review from Kellie H.
San Diego, CA
Friday nights with Junior the Discopunk are the best nights to stop by this small North Parkian hot spot. While the crowd that evening was somewhat ecclectic and the restrooms were slightly scary, I do believe this is one of the better places to 'get your groove on' in this area!
Drinks made by the only female bartender serving that evening were perfection and were priced reasonably!
New idea for the June birthday celebration: reserve either the sunken pit or private side room, complete with stripper pole...bottle service provided for a fee.
Junior's music is the best of 80's/90's...kept me dancing all night long!!!
Don't miss stopping by this lil' gem! See you there!!!! -

My friend lives literally right around the corner from this place, so obviously it is a go-to when looking for a night out with out having to drive anywhere. Music was a good mix of old school and top 4. Drinks are reasonably priced. Not suuuuper crowded, which was nice. $5 at the door to get in.
Being from LA, I was a little confused about the bouncer/red rope situation. I mean, this is San Diego. Way more chill than LA or Hollywood.
Oh well, I'm sure I will be back when I visit my friend and we are looking for a local night out.
On a side note, I wonder if this place is connected with the 2 Air Conditioned lounges that use to be in Venice and West LA.
(First time to the area, and I must say I love it! So nice to have bars and restaurants within walking distance) -

I like the atomosphere, it's very warm. There is something different going on every night as far as entertainment. There are always people there to interact with. Also has good prices but there is cheaper elsewhere. There is usually no cover charge.

Truthfully, I cannot say I love this place, but there are some decent perks. The sunken booth looks cool, the decor is cool and the DJ keeps the dance music going (and I danced my ass off). Plus, the drinks are reasonably priced; $5 for a vodka soda and a decent pour of alcohol to boot.
I still can't get over the whole velvet rope/bouncer thing happening at the front door. I mean, y'all know this is North Park, right?! Despite all the revitalization, this area of town is still a smidge on the gritty side (which is what I love about it). If you want all the pomp and circumstance, head south to Downtown.Listed in: Lush Lures

Sabrina is an awesome bartender. Love the Ginger Snap drink. The crowd was a completely no attitude crowd. I came during happy hour so I don't know about the night crowd but if happy hour was any indication this is a place I could love.

Ah, i had such mixed feelings when selecting a star rating for this place.
I started with three and then told myself, our bartender was AWESOME so I bummped it to four stars. What started me at three was the lack of parking, the regular who couldnt shut up and the weird bathroom situaton that forces you to share a sink.
What I loved about the place is the decor, the wide open window, the large amount of TV's and drink prices. Would I go back? Yes, the service was super friendly and our bartender gave us a warm fuzzy feeling, she was super sweet and very lovely. -

AC Lounge has to be my favorite spot in all of North Park. Drinks are very reasonably priced, and the bartenders are always prompt and welcoming. Security at the door is very courteous, and do a pretty good job of weeding out any troublemakers. Every now and then a few prima donnas get through and try to ruin the night with Britney Spears requests, but I digress. There's only so many times you can try to listen to her before you want to blow your head off in the bathroom, which I may add is very simple, with it's swinging doors for the dudes to go break the seal, a ladies room, and a sink shared by all, which never gets crowded.
Interior decor is a little bit retro, which is a nice change of scenery. I really dig the 007 movie posters that are posted. If you do get a chance, definitely snag a spot in the sunken area.
Monday nights are definitely one of the best nights to check out AC. Great drink prices, no cover, and dubstep and drum and bass all night brought to you courtesy of Organized Grime. The reason why I was unsure about the TVs is because quite frankly, once the DJs are up and going, I stop giving out f***s like it's Black Friday.
AC Lounge is definitely worth a trip if you have never been there before. Check out the White Rascal, and definitely stop in on Monday nights! -

This is my favorite club in North park hands down. The bartenders are dope, the music is amazing & I have never had a bad night here! In addition the renovations of the club really are the icing on the cake ~!!

I have been going to the AC Lounge for years. I love the decor and the dj is great too! The drinks are very well made. They recently added windows and it adds to the ambiance. The bartenders are always friendly and knowledgeable. The bar is also very involved in community. I attended a business association meeting there and it was a great location for that as well. I highly recommend the AC Lounge!

Went here on no-cover monday. It was pretty laid back, decent priced drinks. The music was suppose to be dub step...but most of the time it wasn't. The crowd was a little different then you'd expect, so my group didn't really fit in (we're pretty avid clobbers/bar hoppers). The set up it pretty nice, but still small. The lounge started filling up around 12am. Its a pretty chill spot (& free cover)
, so I'll probably be going back. -

The wife and I have gone here quite a few times and each time we have went the staff has been very attentive and friendly.
Even when when an incident arose (of our own fault) the staff was courteous in handling the situation.
For the wife and I music is always one of the top factors in enjoying a place...and having only been there on Friday nights when "Junior the DiscoPunk" was dj-ing...we have never left disappointed.
(Reading some other reviews I find it quite funny people posting about him or other dj's "refusing" to play songs they try to request. I never understood this...why do you want to go to a bar so the dj can be your personal jukebox? Hell just stay home, grab a beer and put on your iPod earphones to listen to your Justin Bieber iPod playlist if you really want to just listen to your own music)
We will definitely be coming back whenever given the chance. -

I love this place. You just have to make sure you come on the right night. There are usually good drink specials. I recommend the Dutch Donkey. Some DJ's just suck here but I've always had a good time with Tera Nova and Basterd Zerimar and Mikeal Flowers! Hope i got those right...

I like this place. Went on a Friday, electronic music. They played "Big Bad Wolf" which is the most epic song ever, points for that. Attentive bartenders (at least in the VIP area). Can't really comment on the crowd since it was for a friend's birthday -- he had pretty much the whole place booked. I would come back!

Last month I visited this spot for the third and LAST TIME! My first experience was enjoyable. I appreciated its small size and unique characteristics like the James Bond Posters and such. I was with a medium-sized group and everyone had a decent time.
The last two times I have been here have not been good at all. It basically comes down to the music and the customer service. Our last visit, the music was terrible, hardly anyone was dancing and many of us were requesting songs and getting ignored and brushed off in a rude manner. After complaining to the DJ, and to one of the bouncers and asking to talk to someone about getting out money back, they laughed it off. We each paid $5 dollars which is no big deal if you are a quality place that respects the wants and opinions of the consumer. THEY DON'T. There are way too many great clubs in San Diego that are FREE, and ENJOYABLE for me to return to this club.
SORRY AIR CONDITIONED LOUNGE, NEVER AGAIN!! -

I fell in love with this place the moment I walked in. What a cool, retro chic, fun environment. I couldn't believe that this neighborhood lounge was in University Heights. I felt like I was stepping into a Downtown lounge. The red lighting in the place was really cool and the place was poppin for a Thursday night. I guess they have 30 different DJ's a month! They also have several flat screens throughout the place and an awesome, awesome affordable drink menu. Try the berry mojito..delish! And they don't use those wack mojito mixers that I hate either, straight up mint, blueberries, fresh lime juice, the works. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. There was a great vibe going on that night. Awesome music, people having fun and dancing, there was even this HOTTTTTTTT guy breakdancing :) So I guess the sign outside is new too. Definitely fits the vibe of the lounge...a must see.
So I also wanted to mention that I've met the owner and his wife and the OWNERS GIRLFRIEND DOES NOT WORK AT THE BAR!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone (Ken P ) mentioned this in a previous review. Why do some people make the stupidest comments without factual information? Bars on Sunday mornings can be busy, especially if they have the NFL ticket. Patience is a virtue and often required at bars. Be happy that there's a nice bar like this in your area with awesome drinks and NFL ticket, dufus. -
Review from Jessie S.
This place has gone down hill since two years ago and let me tell you why:
1. They don't honor the drink specials they advertise.
On several occasions, we arrive early 9:30 and ask about the drink specials and the answer we get is "we're not doing those anymore" even though the flyer states the drink specials are until 10:30pm. How professional of them, false advertisement.
(side note: I accidentally added up the tip wrong on my bill and put an extra ten dollars on top of the original tip. The bartender noticed and didn't say anything, just smiled. I then went back to my table and checked out my tab then went straight to the bar where the bartender said, "oh yeah" and canceled the last transaction. How shady of them.)
2. The music.
This place used to play the jams, I mean 80s, classic rock mixed with electro or hip hop. Jams that made you want to move on the dance floor but now the djs they have play music that you hear when you go to downtown. If I wanted to hear electro mixed with top 40 hits then I'd go downtown to Hard Rock.
3. The crowd.
Last night, we arrived around 9:30pm and left around 12:30am because this place was EMPTY (see above reasons as to why). Not only were we the youngest among the fifteen people in the whole lounge (I'm 23) but the most normal. There were several creeper guys who arrived by themselves and just stared.
Farewell AC Lounge, hopefully one day you'll be profession and honor what you claim to be.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I could go on for days about this place! (All good things, OF COURSE!)
All of my friends know that the AC Lounge is probably one of my FAVORITE SPOTS to have a drank & listen to some EFFIN AWESOME MUSIC!! To be honest with you, I have been here so many times I've lost count. I even celebrated my birthday here in February. My family & I adore this place. The bartenders are ALWAYS really cool & Brandon (at the front) is the GREATEST! He is always really fun to talk to & he's such a sweet heart!
Everytime we come here, its when DJ MIKE CZECH is spinning. If he won't be there, neither will we. (I actually worked the day of my birthday celebration to a Saturday when he'd be there) He is freaking AMAZING! I love him to death! He plays new songs, but he also plays old school & he'll always play every song we request!! He is also such a great a guy! Incredibly sweet!
On my birthday & many other occasions (my aunt's birthday, my uncle's birthday, & my uncle's upcoming birthday! haha) we reserved The Pit & we would get bottle service. Our waitresses were ALWAYS very nice and attentive. I really like having The Pit, you're kind of the center of attention (which is always fun!). & you're right next to the dance floor!
My Aunt found this place last year, because we were trying to figure out "somewhere new" to go to. & I'm so so soo glad she found this place. I absolutely love it. The staff here is great. & so is the enviroment. You don't have to get too dolled up, but you can. & Its not a clubby club place, which I love.
I definitely recommend this place to everyone I know, when they ask where's a good place to go to have a drink or if they're in the Hillcrest/North Park Area. I'm a regular here!! :)Listed in: Group Outings!

Great place to just hang out and have a cocktail after work.. The drinks are strong and the bartenders are friendly, Sabrina, Jeff & Sunshine!! Night life there is another thing. When the sun goes down, and the lights dim AC turns into a party with the dance floor moving. That was on a Monday Night!

i have not been during the other days so i am not sure how it is when their isnt 'event' going on
but it seems like a relaxing place, with the 'lounge' down on the lower level -

Massively long overdue review update.
...the days of Big Sonic Chill nite on Tues are years in the past. YEARS. way before the Mikey Madness (kicks vengeful dust back up in the air, mwahaha). and then some. we are talking the Midori days for all you old timers of 94/9.
So yeah, prior review is merely a time capsule memory and provides absolutely no useful information for current times. BUT Ive been here several times since and will probably continue for Edgartronic. Because he is awesomeness. He is 5 stars (there the 4th friday of each month. btw) :)) But A/C? nah. It's just ok in my eyes. And ive had a bit of a bad track record with the clientele the last few times. Why do chicks mad dog me and my girl friends just trying to dance and have fun? Look yo, we are not groupies - he's our friend :-|
Some info:
Typically there is a $5+ cover on the weekend unless you are on the guestlist.
It gets hot and sweaty and crowded on the dance floor....at least if you are doing it right. when you are tired there is plenty of seating which rocks...still a fan of the sunken area. lots-o-bar height tables next to it, a long couch below a projected tv, plenty of seats at the bar and 2 VIP areas. the smaller one across from the entry and up is a FANTASTIC photo booth area. yeah, odd detail. but it is :D
It suffers the unfortunate requirement of appeasing the mainstreamers with typical top 40 (and flash back) remixes - tho seriously...how long are people going to excitedly dance to "you spin me right round baby right round...like a record baby..."
personally im done spinning like a record. but i digress.
(i dont blame you for that edgar...and you throw in the deadmau5 so we are good, heh)
they serve effin black cherry vodka...holllllla. that and soda is like $7, no bargain but iz coo.
dress code fellas - no shorts or baseball caps (i think) or be prepared for rejection...really quite the oddity in this part of town.
creepers are prevalent and will and do hit on you if given the opportunity. sometimes in creative ways. i recall a delightful invitation to my friend for some post-bar coitus in the alleyway. i kid you not.Listed in: Where to fly with the social…, Hottt Electronica

AC Lounge, is a fantastic neighborhood bar. The vibe is chill to upbeat, depending on the time, evening & DJ. The new face lift, including new window and paint job, sign, etc. has been done tastefully, while still maintaining the original vibe of decor. The DJ's are great, drinks reasonably priced, but what really makes this a standout, is the BARTENDERS!!!!! One in particular JEFF is one of the, if not the BEST!!! Intelligent, witty conversation, and man oh man, can he make a drink. Get on down, n check it out! Be kind to your Bartender, and the neighbors!!

I stopped in today on the Taste of Adams tour, intending to soak up some AC and have a beer before heading back out. I think the "Air Conditioned" thing is kind of an in joke, though--I could feel it in the entrance, both coming and going, so strong that you can feel it just standing in front of the door. But inside the bar it's significantly warmer.
That's not a big deal in and of itself, though; despite my northeasterly origins I find San Diego's climate quite pleasant. The issue is that I couldn't stop thinking about the bar scene from "10 Things I Hate About You." You know, the bit where David Krumholtz says to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "Don't touch anything! You might get hepatitis!"
We opted to skip the beer. And the weird little sampler, which I THINK was supposed to be chili? Ugh.Comment from Gary J. of The Air Conditioned Lounge 7/24/2011

AC lounge is the spot! Great house music, dubstep, dnb, electro, they got it all and always a great crowd. Every one always gets along and never any fights. My drinks are always strong as hell! Good tips goes a long way if you wanna get strong drink. On another note, If you plan on requesting songs, chances of you getting it played in any venue or club is not gonna happen. You know who you are, dont be silly. Enjoy the talent and vibes. Cause at AC, They got all the sweet vibes! Organized Grime on mondays! Lets go!

Near perfection!
Jeff, the bartender, is extremely talented at making inventive and delicious drinks. Ask him to think something up for you when they're not busy. He's a fun guy. He even named a drink after me!
The music. NICE!!! Flippin Fantastic really. Great mix up of old and new, wonderfully mashed up by very talented turn tables and accompanied by fun lights. Great live music makes a place worth visiting just by itself.
It's a little hole in the wall so the first time you go keep an eye out for it. The inside is a bit small, but feels right somehow. There's fun seating almost everywhere and the dance floor kinda melts into the whole area. Cool padded walls and lighting.
Friday it was poppin, sunday it was dead (still great music though!) They were even playing Anchor Man, no sound, but subtitles of course, on Sunday. Good choice :)
$5 cover and dress code. Free for me (not my man) on Sunday, but don't know if that's a regular thing. Went casual both times and no problem with dress code. Just don't dress like a slob I guess.
Good crowd, friendly staff, decent prices on drinks( $3 specials on mixed drinks and drafts on sunday) and FANtastic music! Why NOT try it? :) -

Well this was a very interesting Lounge. First off the dj that played was great. The drinks were ok but super cheap when u check into yelp. The place is small so I can see it getting crowded. I think the best thing about this place was the people watching. This is the only place I have been where it did not feel like too many dicks on the dance floor. There was definetly more females, much older than me and my friends, yes, but boy do they get down...so much sex oozing from these people. So many make outs and dry humping.
The only off thing was why did we have to pay cover? -

Bar #4 for the NP Pub Crawl Warm-Up...
No one believed me there's a dress code here! The bouncer wouldn't let me in, considering I had long shorts on. I even tried to convince others in the crowd that I was wearing high-water pants to mingle my way in. But no avail.
The fat: There's a dress code here.
The skinny: Telling others you know "Edgar" won't get you in, so don't bother trying.Listed in: NP Pub Crawl Warm-Up

I've had some really cool experiences here before, but tonight was a major fail...a group of 9 of us went wanting to have fun and dance, paid the $5 cover, only to have to sit through repetitive house music mixed with slow , old songs......I know it want hip hop night or anything but the DJ was terrible! The dance floor was empty almost the whole time, the Dj refused to take requests, and wouldn't take suggestions from anyone. After a boring 90 minutes there we left, disappointed. Dj junior is the worst......avoid nights where he djs....this is coming from a guy who LOVES dance! Management was incredibly rude to us and had an attitude that reflected their lack of regard for patrons. I don't know that I've ever had such a bad experience or been so ill treated by an establishment. Fellow yelpers- avoid this place like the plague (unless your into being harshly treated and surrounded by the cougars that frequent this place....then by all means PROCEED ....to each his own)

This is a fun, hip joint! I love the 007 posters on the wall, the sunken living room space was fun, and after checking on on http://yelp.com they have a special for 50% off your first round! The drinks were tasty, the atmosphere was fun, and the Dj played some good music. Kind of a hipster crowd, but I had a good time.
Parking is a little nutty because its all street parking, just remember all those yellow curbs change to normal curbs at 6pm unless otherwise marked *wink* I nabbed a close spot at a yellow curb! -

Drinks are cheap, first round is 50% w/ a check in on yelp! They usually play house music which is not my favorite. They usually don't charge at the door on weekdays but weekends are $5 so not bad. It's convenient to go with my friends who live in the area.

Review from Belle A.
Norwalk, CA
Everytime I come to this place, I end up closing it down! This place is so much fun. The music is AWESOME, drinks are great and the service is good.
I brought my sister and brother here last summer and we reserved The Pit through Frances (who is a doll, though I've never met her). Since then, we come here to party with our family and friends. Mike Czech is one of my fave DJ's. Not only does he spin the best songs, new and old skool, but he such a nice guy! Always very gracious and cool. So cool, we only come out when he spins, otherwise we change the dates we go!
The Pit is a sunken living space with a red U-shaped couch. It fits up to 12 people and bottle service. When you're there, you're sorta the center of attention, because everyone wants to see what it is. Every waitperson we get, they're always very attentive and friendly, and I like that because that's what come with the cost of bottle service. SO worth it!
What I like most about this bar is that it's not really a club - it's a bar/lounge. There's a dress code, but it's not like downtown and dressy. Don't get me wrong, I like to get dolled up every once in a while, but I lalso like to chill with a drink and listen to some good music. The people that go there are all nice and just wanna have a dranky-drank and dance. That's what I wanna do!
I love this place. The family loves this place. I recommend this place. -
Review from David G.
After years of wanting to visit this place, I finally had the chance when the lovely Miss V invited me along to the birthday shindig that she was holding here. The first thing I realized:
Air Conditioned ... is definitely NOT air conditioned enough.
Weird.
But, then again, that's part of the charm of this intimate little club. The folks who run this place don't want you to get the chills. They want you to get hot and sweat.
Sounds like my kind of place!
The club is completely nondescript on the outside. During the day, it's a cement wall. When the night is young, it's a cement wall with a bouncer in front, looking bored. As the night draws on, it's a cement wall with a line of stylish girls and boys eager to get inside, but kept at bay by the bouncer trying to enforce occupancy rules.
The inside is as gorgeous as the outside is nondescript. A colorful bar along the front wall. A little nook to relax by the entrance. A cozy dance floor in the middle, where you can practically sit on the deejay's lap (which, if the deejay is Edgartronic, is something that I strongly recommend that you do).
I visited on an Edgartronic night, and he spins some of the best tunes around! A great mix of old and new. He had my feet moving in no time, much to the chagrin of the people next to me, who were forced to witness the white-boy-grind dance moves that I borrowed from Elaine Benes on Seinfeld. At least I burned off the gin and tonics that I was drinking.
The place also has a pit, where you can sip cocktails under the watchful eye of several James Bond posters.
Cool, eh?
Nope -- HOT. -
Review from Conrad R.
Another late night stop for us. The unadorned wall and closed door lit only by the ambient neon blue glow adds to the mystery. What's going on beyond the facade?
Good times, of course! While the place isn't packed for a Thursday night, DJ is spinning some high energy, uptempo beats for the dance crowd. I think I saw the robot somewhere in that lively group.
The warm, subdued tones at the bar are very inviting. Rosemary was very friendly and teased me for snapping some pics, telling me, "You're definitely married," and pegging me as a computer geek. The bartendress is very cute and in charge of drinks, so that is ok by me.
It's a relatively small club/bar/lounge as mentioned by yelpers, but I don't think I've ever been to a place with a saloon door in front of the men's room before. Adjacent to the shared washroom sink area, there's a closet with two urinals . I guess it makes sense, rather than barging into a crowded pisser or getting the door shoved into your back while mid-stream.
Air Conditioned may look unassuming on the outside, but it's definitely a fun place to go check out.Listed in: After Dark
