    Things you need to know:

Delicious food! COCONUT SHRIMP! WOOO! The peanut chicken skewers were also amazing. I, obviously, had a hard time from keeping the sauce off my face but the napkins were as plentiful as the food so no problem there.

Our party was a crowd of crazy yelp-kids dressed as sluty santas, elves, and the like (I wasn't wearing pants), and the catering staff couldn't have impressed me more.

Normally, it becomes obvious when the cocktail servers and clean up staff start to get annoyed at the drunk crowd, but that didn't happen. The staff was extremely accommodating as I reached for shrimp after shrimp after napkin after shrimp.

If you know your crowd might get rowdy, or are just looking for a professional staff to cater your next event, be sure to call The Abbey. They've got it figured out!

The owner goes to great (any?) lengths to make sure his customers have everything they need, even the non-paying ones!

At the last Yelp Elite party, I won a weekend in Vegas courtesy of The Abbey Catering. The beautiful location that I won was having work done the only weekend I could go so instead of cancelling on me or requiring I reschedule, the owner actually purchased a weekend at one of the popular casinos right on the strip. I definitely didn't expect such courtesy, especially since I won the trip for attending a free event but he seemed more than happy to accommodate.

He obviously takes pride in providing the best service and ensuring his clients are more than satisfied.

I learned about The Abbey Catering and Event design thanks to the Yelp Elite XXX-mas party. The bites were to die for, the servers attentive and friendly, the drinks served just right, the trays passed frequently. I sampled the sliders and the coconut shrimp.

To put it quite simply, this is food, design and service done right, and I am not just saying that because I have had horrible experiences with other caterers. I didn't know catering could go so perfectly smoothly.

My taste buds and myself had a blast!

I am an experienced connesiouer and addict of Coconut Shrimp....Even mass produced for a crowd of hundreds at the Yelp Elite XXX-MAS Event, Abbey Catering's Coconut Shrimp were Fing Deeeelish! I ate about two dozen.  I'm lying, probably more. If you're a Coconut Shrimp Whore like myself, consider Abbey Catering for your next event!

Coconut Shrimp aside, Abbey Catering's staff was extremely friendly and efficient. The food trays always kept coming with more of my Coconut Shrimps, and I never had to wait longer than 3-4 people to at the bar to get a drink.  As far as I know the entire friendly staff enjoyed XXX/ Rated R attire of the hundreds of drunken Yelpers surrounding them.

Whether its a XXX or Rated G event, hire Abbey Catering for your next event!

    Rain rain go away...

And it did. If you missed this party because the rain scared you away then you miss a bomb event.  It ranged from shirtless Ruggy (old Yelp SD CM) to Ho ho hos (ok they were dressed sexy).  Abbey Catering provided the food and Cuvier Club provided the venue.

The skies were clear and the venue was great.  Parking was plentiful and the crowd was ready for partying Holiday style.  I have gone to at least several Holiday Yelp Events and this was interesting for its theme and the timing (Monday night).  But you don't get to choose a venue, time when it's your company's Holiday party and when Yelp says the Holiday party is on a Monday, you know it's still going to be good.

Well the music was happening, food flowed and drinks as always.

Overall, I enjoyed myself and I am sure everyone else there did too.  It was nice to see old time Yelpers be there as well some new ones.    As the last event I think for Yelp this year, it was enjoyable and not to be missed whether it rained (or not).

As Santa Claus would say  Ho ho ho ho cough cough...!

Thanks Yelp, Danny, Ruggy, Heidi and the Girls!  Truly a XXX rated party!

Abbey Catering provided the food and it was a sampling of what they can offer.  I am sure they can provide you with a menu that will fit your budget and make sure you and your guests are happy!

These guys kept the food and drinks flowing all night long at that Elite XXX-mas party.

The staff were very professional and consistently offered free samples of their cocount shrimp, chicken with the peanut sauce, and the little sliders. The coconut shrimp was my favorite, but the other two items were good.

    Excellent job you guys!

I was first introduced to The Abbey Catering by attending an event at the San Diego Museum of Art, and tried out their famous mashed potato bar....potatoes in martini glasses with all the toppings...which gave me the idea to throw a party with a similar "bring your own potato topping" theme for my girlfriends, which was a hit!
I then ran into them again with the same potato bar at a Yelp party....and while posting my review, won a generous prize which involved a Chef's Tasting Table for 2 at the Cuvier Club, their special events center in La Jolla.  My fiance and I enjoyed an amazing dinner with several courses of appetizers and entrees, and sat, as the only guests, at a table set for two in their large ballroom.  Prior to scheduling the dinner, I was sent a questionnaire asking about my favorite dishes, restaurants, vegetables, seasonings and other personal tastes.  The two chefs that were there that night worked hard, were creative, and put together a delicious menu for us.  I learned that this was the same questionnaire one would fill out when planning for a wedding or other special event.  We were seated at a table that had the appearance of a head table for a wedding, warmly greeted, and offered water and out choice of wines.  We then were introduced to the chefs who had been preparing our meal.  Whenever we were served, one of the chefs would come out to describe our dish to us....I felt a bit like I was sitting at the judges table in Top Chef!
We got started with three courses of appetizers.  On the first plate, we were served crab cakes and ahi poke, both of which I had mentioned were my very favorite appetizers.  The plate also had small stuffed cherry tomatoes with herbed goat cheese....sounds simple, but they were so surprisingly creamy and delicious...I felt like I could those alone for the whole meal.  Next we were given a plate with mini Beef Wellingtons and ratatouille crostini....a very impressive duo.  The Wellingtons were the perfect sized appetizer with filled with tender fillet.  I was very touched by the chef's creativity with the ratatouille crostini, as I had listed ratatouille as my favorite vegetable dish, but didn't truly expect it to be served!
We were then served a colorful salad, followed by three courses of entrees: a short rib with truffled mashed potatoes and asparagus, chicken roulade with mushroom risotto in a garlic sauce, and a mahi-mahi with orzo pasta in a lobster sauce.  I liked all the dishes, but the short rib was my favorite.  It was so tender that it fell apart just by touching it with my fork. I wish I had been able to manage to eat everything on my plates, but this was one huge tasting!  My fiance commented that if our wedding dinner would be anything like this, he would be very happy!

My review is not based on previous catering service, but rather on an event I attended where a few representative from Abbey were present and had samples to try.

I ran into a few of their staff, but one person, Martin, really stood out because we chatted for a while.  He was friendly and interesting, so while we talked about food, I was scarfing down their samples:  mashed potatoes with chicken that could be dressed with toppings.   They had sauteed mushrooms (with extra butter), shredded bacon, cheese, but what really blew me away was their phenomenal garlic!!  It was whole chunks of succulent garlic that had the creaminess texture to it without the over-pungency that garlic usually has... oh man.

So I plan on finding a groom soon just to order from them.
    YUM.

Excellent service and smartly dressed was the staff. At the private event they had a cool structure with decorated shelves and spot lites suspended from it that held fancy condiments for a dish being served.

My experience with their food is very limited.

Abbey is hands down a dream of a wedding caterer. Located in the beautiful area of downtown La Jolla (a plus if your wedding is in the area, which is a very popular spot for wedding), their prices were surprisingly reasonable and flexible and their food is great. On top of it, the crew is so friendly and understanding and responsive! Jaime is the best captain ever, he's very very flexible, full of great ideas, and always there to offer good advice on saving money and improving the quality of the dinner. He was very attentive to us and the guests during the dinner, and the ground crew exhibited a high level of service, according to all my guests. I would definitely recommend them, I wouldn't change my vendor if I had to do it all over again. :)

Abbey Catering team did such an outstanding job for our event and we could not have been happier.  The price was reasonable compared to the service level and high food standards.  It was truly a fine dining experience! I will definetly have The Abbey Catering Team do all of our company events from now on. Great JOB and thank you for such a wonderful experience.

The Abbey was amazing and most importantly for me, Jesika was FABULOUS.

She was organized and responsive.  She was responsible and trustworthy.  Whatever my worries were, I felt better as soon as I talked to her.  She has a lot of experience, she is confident, and she is wonderful at what she does.  Her talents and enthusiasm make a killer combination, in addition to a great group of the Abbey team members.  We ran into a few unexpected changes and snags, due to no fault of either party, but everything went smoothly and I couldn't have asked for more.

    Thank you for everything!!!  =)

My wife found The Abbey Catering online as a near-complete solution to wedding coordination.  They are first and foremost a catering company, but we were able to get discounted rates with preferred vendors for:

    1. Reception locations
    2. Baker (cake)
    3. Photographer (Michelle Zuniga - Z Studio - see my other reviews)
    4. Videographer
    5. Florist
    6. Ice sculpture
    7. DJ for the reception (DJ Neko - Calvin Buechler)

Included in the package was also a stay in a 6day stay in a condo in Maui (good up to one year after the wedding).  We elected to not use their florist and elected against the ice sculpture as well.  The baker, dj, and the photographer that we worked with were great and experienced vendors (not some budget start up people trying to develop their business).

Cristin (our day of coordinator) and Zafer (the owner) were easy to work with and accommodated all our wishes as much as they possibly could.  They handled everything very professionally and very meticulously.  We had crab cakes and pita chips + humus as appetizers and a baked stuffed salmon and a steak dish as the main courses, buffet style.  All of our guests really enjoyed the food.  We also purchased dimsum from a local shop to add to our appetizers and the Abbey Catering staff handled that as well.

The Abbey catered our wedding last month and my husband and I could not have been happier with the food, the service, and the overall graciousness of our coordinator (Jessica) and the rest of the Abbey's delightful and professional staff.

Jessica and her crew arrived 2 hours before the ceremony to set up, they broke down the seating area after the wedding ceremony and assembled the reception area in its place, they provided excellent service (cocktails, dinner, and cake service), delicious food (our best man groaned with pleasure on every bite), and stayed until the last guest was leaving before breaking down the entire reception site. All of this was included at a very reasonable price.

We loved, loved, loved it. We were so happy with the Abbey - they made our special day worry-free. Every detail was taken care of and the staff treated us like royalty. We highly recommend the Abbey for any catered event.

i was in the middle of wedding planning in august of 2009, when the venue we chose got banned by the city (elfin forest estates). my wedding was planned for july 2010...so i had a lot of time but still felt helpless and didnt really know what i was going to do. i decided to start searching for catering companies and came across the abbey thanks to yelp! with more research my husband and i were very much interested in their "all inclusive" wedding packages, which include your choices of vendors for ALL of your wedding needs.

our tasting was fabulous. my husband and i were blown away by the presentation and the service that we decided right then and there to book our wedding package with them. we had amazing appetizers, salads and entrees during the tasting. we had so much food they let us take the leftovers home! it was all accompanied by a bottle of wine, which was a nice touch.

once we were booked we were assigned a wedding coordinator. robert battoe was my coordinator and just AMAZING. i cant say enough great things about him. i also communicated a lot w/ jesika throughout the process and the two of them really know what they are doing over there at the abbey. they were always on top of things and answered every email and phone call promptly. as it got closer to our wedding date i had a lot of questions and concerns and both robert and jesika were ready and available for me.

we chose the following services for our package:
    - catering (food was AMAZING)
    - dj (dj randy was so/so)
    - photographer (julie buchta davis...a fabulous photographer!)
    - videographer
    - cake (flour power - we loved our cake and the service)
    - florist (artquest flowers - centerpieces turned out gorgeous!! even better than i expected)
    - limo
    - minister (lois baldi - love love loved her!!)
    - gourment coffee bar

(other options to choose from: martini tree, ice sculpture, upgraded linens, hair/makeup...)

there were a few mishaps throughout the planning process with the vendors. (florist didnt show up for first meeting...yikes! but jesika and robert were immediately on it and the florist ended up making up for it on his end). not all the vendors are 5 stars...but they are professional and very accommodating.

i would most definitely recommend the abbey catering and event planning company to anyone planning a major event. again much LOVE for robert and jesika and all the attention to detail and hard work they put in to helping us plan our wedding day.

I used Abbey catering and all-inclusive package for our 10/2/10 wedding at Ocean View Villas in OB.

Catering:  Food was what got me hooked to this catering company in the first place.  The tasting session was what felt like a fancy ten-course meal and their stuffed salmon was what got me sold to sign a contract with them.  On the day of the wedding, the food was just as amazing as the tasting, and their beef wellington was a huge hit as hors d'oeuvres! Also, they not only saved the leftover cake (incl the top layer of the cake), but also packed left over foods for us to enjoy at the villas the next day!

Coordinator: Robert Battoe and I still keep in touch from time to time.  He and the team did an amazing job on the wedding day. Robert made sure everything is under control all day long and went above and beyond to make sure our day went super smooth.

I also had other vendors through the all-inclusive package which I am very pleased with their professionalism and quality of service.  I also really liked that the all-inclusive package came with multiple vendors from each category so I had the flexibility to choose which florist or DJ fit our style best.  Also, the price of the package is very reasonable - trust me, I did my research.  :)

We used The Abbey Catering for our wedding reception in January 2007 and were very impressed with what we got.

Zapher, the owner and main chef, is an outstanding cook who really worked hard to make sure that everything was perfect for our big day.

Our package from The Abbey Catering included:
    * Reception venue. We used the Sunset Room at Marina Village, which had a great view for a dinner reception. We used the downstairs area for the cocktail hour, and the carpet down there was pretty worn, but the upstairs area for the dinner and dancing was in much nicer shape. A-
    * Dinner buffet and appetizers. The food was top-notch. We had several food options for our guests, and quite a few people raved about it. If only I had room to try everything that we had served. A+
    * Cake - our choice from the Flour Power cakery in La Jolla. A+
    * photographer - Katy and her staff took awesome photos, without being in the way, and developed a great yearbook-style album for us, which we loved so much, we made 2 extra copies to give each set of parents. A+
    * DJ - Neko was a great guy to work with, who really took our musical style and made sure we had great tunes for the cocktail hour, and then during the dancing. Some weddings get a DJ is wants to hear himself talk like a radio announcer - Neko is not that guy! He's more a club DJ that wants to make sure that the crowd doesn't stop dancing to his vinyl and CDs. Although if i ever find out who thought that I really wanted to dance to Billie Jean, and have the spotlight on me, i'll coming after that person! A+
    * Flowers - we got a bit more than just the basic flower package, since we wanted to decorate the church - and the flower lady was clever enough to have pew decorations that could also work for decorating the reception. my wife's bridal bouquet was beautiful. A+
    * Ice sculpture - we totally forgot that this was in our package until the last week before our wedding, and we were pleased with our giraffe! A
    * Videography - unobtrusive during the ceremony and reception, although the music picked in the final video was a little pretentious. B

The Abbey Catering let us save on costs by letting us buy the alcohol ourselves and deliver it to the venue, along with several strands of lights (for decorating the room and bypassing the venue's decor costs). We did have a few glitches in the preparations - most notably we got  a miscommunications on where to meet for a pre-wedding review with the subs (venue vs The Abbey Catering office), but Zapher worked hard to help smooth everything out - and everything connected to catering flowed without a hitch on our wedding day (can't say that about my tux rental!).

Plus, as part of our wedding package, we also got to use the company's Maui penthouse for a week for a really low rate. We saved the trip for our first anniversary, and again, Zapher made sure that everything was more than ok.

Although I did not ultimately decide to go with the Abbey's all-inclusive package (I had so much time before my wedding, that I realized I could plan it myself--plus the initial wedding planning research awakened a super planner side of me that I hadn't realized I had;) Anyways, but I initially corresponded a lot with Marie and she was absolutely wonderful--Very responsive (which I imagine would be important to a stressed out bride) and so sweet and patient with the numerous questions I asked.  Their package sounds awesome for the bride who doesnt want to freak-out having to plan every detail-they make you feel so reassured and foster a trust that you're in good hands* I did a lot of research and could not find an equivalant all-inclusive deal where they are so willing to work within your budget and work with you in creating your vision.

My best friend got married earlier this month and I was the best man.  Throughout the entire event, before, during and after the ceremony, Abby catering did a fantastic and extremely professional job in setting up, serving and breaking down the event.  At the end of the evening there was a financial mixup, which we had tipped for something twice, which they brought to our attention.  Very very professional.  Once again the food and service were great, I would definitely recommend them.

Wow! What to say about The Abbey Catering Company?! I can't say enough great things! I just got married on March 27th 2009 at The Thursday Club in Point Loma. They were on the list of the preferred caterers for the establishment and I just checked them out online. My first thought (from looking at their website) was "Ohhh...this looks really nice but there will be no way we can afford them!". I passed them up and went on to other vendors...and...after making calls and not getting them returned...or talking to someone and telling them our budget and having them laugh at me....I went back to The Abbey's website. I saw that they offered an "All inclusive wedding package" and I checked into to. After calling and talking to Marie (who is fabulous!) I was elated to find out that they could work with our budget of $10-12,000.00. She was so nice and pleasant to talk with and really made me feel confident in their service. We set up a consultation and food tasting and it only got better from there! The food was GREAT and they were very detail oriented. After signing with them we got introduced to Petr as our wedding coordinator. He was AWESOME...and was so on top of everything! To make a long story short....if you don't choose The Abbey Catering Company for your wedding then you will be making a big mistake. We had the most hassle-free and stress-free wedding planning in combination with the most beautiful wedding that went off without A HITCH! They not only met but, EXCEEDED our expectations 100 fold. They made our wedding day a day that we can look back on with only fond memories. :)
