A simply marvelous place for a brew, just slightly out of the reach of South Beach's most busy streets. This is a dimly lit, warm and inviting bar where the focus is quality craft beer.

The Abbey's house brews are excellent, with Brother Aaron's Quadrupel being my absolute favorite. They also have a nicely varied and balanced selection of draft and bottled beers from many other breweries, both import and domestic. My lady enjoyed a refreshing peach cider, just one of the many tasty selections.

Small and intimate (and it used to be even smaller...), this is a great place to get together with other folks who enjoy quality drink in a casual atmosphere. A Miami gem.

Great brewpub in a good area of Miami Beach.
    The decor is charming.
    Very good selection of beers.
The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because the bartender didn't know what the difference is between filtered and unfiltered beers and was not able to point them out on the menu for us. I kind of expect that from a place that concentrates on beer.
Other than that the service was great.

Sure, dynamics have changed a bit since the expansion but that's business! The Abbey is still a local's neighborhood bar off the beaten path.

I do love that more seating means you can now sit down with more than 1 friend at a time and actually hear each other when it's busy. It's still smoky, but much more bearable than prior renovation. Worst con is the change of clientele on weekends. Way more rowdy tourists stuff themselves in here and the option of alcohol instead of beer only doesn't help the situation. Addition of more TVs also lighten up the place which takes away from the dim environment I want when coming here.

I usually go with their craft IPA but recently have been enjoying Lost Coast Apricot on draft. Perfect for those hot, Sunday afternoons. It's a great spot to come on a weeknight, Sunday, or grab an a pre/post dinner drink when dining at Yardbird next door. If you've acquired a SoBe attitude, please check it at the door and help us preserve this laid-back gem.

Good luck with parking. It's best to walk, bike, or skate here.

Awesome place, especially given lack of similar establishments around. Went there on a Friday night, they had house Belgian-styles, some high-end Belgians, and couple domestic micros. Prices and abv were clearly marked, the staff was friendly and the service was quick. Also had a cask engine, that had Smuttynose Robust Porter, but according to the menu the cask selection rotates. One negative thing I noticed was that on the menu it said that their selection changes somewhat rarely. I guess if it's mostly for tourists that should be ok, not sure if I were a local regular, that I could keep coming back for the same, no matter how great, selections on a weekly basis.
Walking distance from Hoffbrau, if you're in a mood for some Germans afterward.

Love this place! great craft beers, i tried three and they were all great, apparently its been renovated, and it looks great. The happy hour was great and the beers were cheap, I am definitely coming back. Also I hear sundays are  big deal. The main reason I'd go back was the staff and other patrons were very friendly and helpful, loved it all

Updated based on recent renovations. Walk in, and it still looks like the same old Abbey; same bar running along the right side. The only difference is a significantly larger area in between the bar and the booths.

Most of the same house beers are available on tap. The Abbey's own beers on were the imperial stout, quad, and IPA. I never was much of a fan of the IPA at all, as it just never had that fresh hoppy character I look for - so until proven otherwise, I'd suggest sticking to the stout or quad, which I feel are far better beers. There's also a selection of bottles, and several guest taps.

I am assuming the larger space will help with the old smoke problem; however, I'm left wondering if that simply means more chain smokers will rush in and pack the place at peak times. Oh well, I will probably never find out, as this is my South Beach "afternoon spot." It's mostly uncrowded in the afternoon, and I always have preferred it that way - no desire to test the late-night waters here.

The Abbey has now re-opened! Oh, happy, happy day! This is my hands down, all-time favorite bar! I love their rotating selections of fabulously crafted beers. Lost Coast Apricot, Brother Dan's Double, their house-made stout... all of them have been consumed by me with much gusto! Along with many others, which I must have enjoyed so much that I cannot remember their names!

Owner Ray is usually on-site, happy to chat with patrons, and there is always great music, played at a volume that enables conversation.

My one complaint about this place is the smoke level; however, I noticed that with the expansion, there are several strategically placed "smoke eater" machines, so fingers crossed that it does the trick. It was pretty un-smokey when I was there on Friday night.

    Great selection of Beer...

Perfect little escape from the somewhat pretentious SoBe lifestyle..  Excited to re-visit since they have renovated.  People are friendly, small little dive bar, off the beaten path.  Def for those locals who enjoy good conversation and meeting new people.. You can bring your dog, have food delivered, just chill and take a load off, or watch a game on the TV

Ever since Yardbird came to town, the Abbey has somewhat inexplicably (actually lots of stories if you care to ask), been missing from the scene.  They were renovating, expanding, and generally updating the space.  For die hard fans of the old smoke tunnel darkness, its a bit of downgrade.  For those who found the old Abbey too much of a hole in the wall, its an upgrade.  For me, it's not quite the Abbey anymore.  I can't put my finger on it exactly.  Is it the bigger space? Is it the overflow of Yardbird patrons?  I'm not sure.  The bar, the personnel, the beer selection remain the same and the vibe is basically intact.

    Pros of the expansion:
    More room and seating.
    Liquor
    Not nearly as smokey

    Cons:
    Lost its lackluster.
    Louder than ever.
    New, hipper crowd.

Overall, it's still the Abbey and it is still a great bar. It just may take a little getting used to.

Perfect little bar. Great atmosphere. Love the ambience and the wood furniture. So many choices of beers all served in their appropriate chilled and proper glass sizes and shapes. Our table had 5 people, 5 different beers, and 5 different glasses. Bartenders are so friendly and helpful with suggestions. They'll get the 5th star when smoking inside is banned. However, the place is spacious and I'll still come back

They only have beer and one or two wines. So no fru fru drinks ladies (well and some gentlemen).

Update:   After 16 years as a narrow hole in the wall, the Abbey is expanding.    They are building out the next door space and will soon be twice as big.

This small and unpretentious Sobe gem (soon to undergo an incredible expansion that will offer a full bar with micro distillery spirits) is all about magic. As soon as you enter you realize that you might be into something good. Approach the bar with confidence and any of the bartenders on shift will explain with detail the immense array of special and rare brews from around the world including Brewmaster/Owner Raymond Ragazio's impeccably balanced Immaculate IPA and the bold & creamy Father Theodor Imperial Stout.

My recommendation is to go with the house selection. The Abbey features happy hour from 3 till 7 on home brews and ciders, but trust me, if you enjoy a well made IPA you can drink this golden nectar all day long...  with a break or two of Framboise Lambic , hard to find options of Brooklyn Brewery Concoction, Blast and Main Engine, or a Delirium Tremens on tap.

Needless to say the music is always in tune with what you are drinking... Allman Brothers, Jimmy Hendrix, Talking Head, and Rolling Stones are some of the sweet sounds you will hear while you enjoy the mystical and refreshing beer selection.

Taking into account that the bar doesn't offer any food (except popcorn and white castle burgers) you might want to have any of your favorite local food delivered. This is a plus since once you are inside you might never want to leave.

If you're a serious beer drinker, this is the place to be.

This blink-and-you-might-miss-it brew bar boasts a variety of quality quaffs, from the traditional Belgians to some more evolutionary pursuits. Populated (seemingly) by a batch of regulars (or at least folks super familiar with what they had going on), it's a laid back joint, and the bartender didn't seem especially in a hurry to flip a cold one.

While it might seem at first blush that they'd cater to a brew-forward room of hoppy fans, that wasn't really so much the scene here the night I dropped in, and it also waxed at least a little odd that the bartender wasn't familiar with what a kolsch style beer was: I mean, I get that this is Miami and all, but you're an artisan beer bar. It's worth five minutes of upkeep, in my opinion.

That said, even when the bartender wasn't totally on top of things he was friendly, and this was an amenable stop. I have to remember that Miami's still sans smoking ban, as I was pretty reeky the next morning, but soup to nuts the Abbey Brewing Company breeds fans for a pretty solid reason. It's easy, the beer's tasty, the wait reasonable. I'll raise a glass to that.

The Abbey so close to Lincoln Road in Distance but so far away in attitude. ( and that's a good thing )

Tight, dark, tasty, friendly and no pretense unlike my last date - the Abbey is all these things. It the locals' local bar with no ambitions to be anything other than that.

This is a pretty good place that one wouldn't expect to find at the Beach. It's a very small bar, but they have a pretty darn good beer selection. Not a humongous amount of beer to choose from like other places around Miami, but it's still a fun place to relax. It's very small, but the bartender is always attentive and willing to suggest some things. My only gripe about the place is that they run out of things often. I must have asked for at least 3-4 different beers last night, but they were out of them.

I did try the Abbey's own IPA and it was very good. I would highly recommend this if you do go here. The prices were reasonable as well for the Beach. I will definitely be back, but hopefully they will have what I like in stock next time.

Debated with a three and went with a two stars for two reasons....

    (1) They claim to be a "brewery" but only had one of their beers on tap that was just drinkable and

    (2) They were selling bottles of beer WAY overpriced and I almost got tricked into spending $44 dollars on 2 22 ounce bottles, that I can get for, MAX $20 buck anywhere else.

It does have great beer on tap.  It is a VERY small place in a conspicuos little strip mall....you can miss it if you don't look closely for it.

Nice enough bartender.  Not sure I advice anyone to really travel over there if you are not in the neighborhood.  We rode our bikes over there and love beer so it was worth the trip.

The Abbey is a good spot! I don't love it though and I can't exactly put my finger on why.

The beer is good. It's dark. It's a dive. There are locals and tourists (from Kendall, of course). This should equate to a great bar experience and yet, the love just isn't there.

I know I am going to annoy my friends who live on the beach and are regulars but I just can't seem to get into it.

I cannot say, however, that it isn't a good place for a beer. Def worth a try and I think I need to get my butt back in there soon to see if I can feel a bit more amorous about it. I mean I have friends who are there several times a week and really don't go anywhere else.

Not horrible and also not great! They have an ok selection of beer, but be careful because the bartender will try and sell you a bottle of beer to-go only to charge you $22 for a bottle you can get for less than $10 anywhere else.

On a beautiful Sunday Funday full of football and booze, 5 New Englanders ventured to the Abbey based on a Yelp suggestion. We were hungry and the Abbey had food. We actually walked by this place and had it not been for the tiny green neon sign in the window, we wouldn't have found it.

The second I walked in, it felt like home. Small, dark, divey beer bar with a cask porter on tap that changed my life. The bartenders were ridiculously friendly and knowledgeable. Our plan was to stay for one beer, and I think by final count, we stayed for at least 3 if not 4. I met the coolest friendliest people which is unusual in pretentious Miami.

Great place to start and finish your night if you go and do SoBe. One of the real chill spots where the locals go and make new friends over a great selection of brews.  Note: place is snug, so if you don't make new friends it means you're a dick, change yourself.  So look no further for that first or last sip as the Abbey will always be on tap (see what I just did there? After you go see a documentary called Beer Wars you just have to go have a beer. No need for subliminal messages there.

Please take note, I do not like bars! I think they're dirty, smokey and smelly - and yet, I am giving The Abbey 5 stars - 5 honest to goodness great stars.

From the outside it doesn't say anything at all; but when I walked in I completely forgot what I had left behind me on the other side of the door. The decoration is great, think old, but clean, and tasteful. The place was crowded but comfortable; and it had its small share of drunk guys - but over all, everyone was seated at booths or on stools having conversations with friends old and new.

They have tons of different beers. You won't find any buds, coors, or miller on their menu. Their beer selection is for the consumer with true taste and knowledge of what a good beer should taste like. And they brew their own beer too, so you can sample what they make right there behind the little door.

is a place in south beach with a homey vibe, rather than the south beachy appearance driven one you get on Washington Ave.

I don't want to sound cheesy, but I can imagine regulars must feel the way they did at that bar ...where everybody knows your name.

Oh, The Abbey--the very definition of a dive. And that's said with lots of love. After all, this bar's smoky, weathered atmosphere and liquor-free bar are the perfect antidote to the flashier hotspots just a block away on Lincoln Road. From the moment you walk in under the neon sign reading simply "BAR," to the moment you sit in one of the wooden booths or at the nicked, worn bar, you know you're seeing a totally different side of South Beach.

If you want a seat, get here early on the weekends--this place is tiny and fills up fast. Don't expect a clean bathroom (it's a dive bar, remember?), but do expect plenty of rare and unique brews on tap. If you're not sure which to try, strike up a conversation with Frank, the young bartender in the glasses--dude knows what's up.

I was recently here twice in less than one week. Yelpers love The Abbey. I've been able to get to chat with the bartender more and Frank is a great guy, fun to joke around with.

Friday night was packed when we got there around 1a.m. but Wednesday around 8p.m. was perfect. Hung out, chatted, played darts, and met new friends and that's when this place is at its best when it is the quiet, neighborhood joint where people go to hang out and grab brews in some funny looking mugs.

I'll be back, just not on a Friday.

Frank the bartender is the man! After sitting in the back on a little bench with Maria A., Frank joked with us how we were in the 'bottle only section.' After chit-chatting for a few moments, he came back with two glasses and chilled water. Super classy!!!

    This place is totally 5*!

Small? Yes, and it was CROWDED after watching "Beer Wars" right around the corner!  But it definitely is THE place to go if you want some wicked delicious beer.

Forget drinking the beer equivalent to piss water, here you get the good stuff.. the real beer is here!  I have never been a fan of wussy beer, and they do not serve stuff for pansy asses here. So look deep into your heart and if you are undeserving of the finest wicked ass kicking beers please do not darken this door.

Arrogant Bastard? Check and yes that is one ANGRY beer .. loved it.  It kicked me in the arse and I liked the abuse! Hit me again you ARROGANT BASTARD!

Delirium Nocturnum? Yes I am delirious right now, what CAN I say.  Great F***ING beers they have in this place.

So far, cute little place and awesome delicious beer.. so the service.. "how about the service" you ask.  Frank "Boogie Boy" was our bartender and all I can say is that we had amazing service, he had an amazing smile and he made us laugh all night.  We made him cry a bit with some abuse but all I can say is that it literally was the Arrogant Bastard in me!  Just kidding, Frank was the BOMB!  Then I asked my new best friend Frank if they had food and he pointed to the fact that they had "SLIDERS" on the menu!  I gave him a quizzical look and he shruged and laughed.  Sliders.. hahaaaa!

Can you ASK for more? I think not. My new favorite place.

For a mug of cold draft beer at a local Miami Beach neighborhood bar, The Abbey Brewing Company is the best place in SOBE.

You can park in one of the Lincoln Road parking garages. It's a short walk from Lincoln Road. Be sure you take the exact address with you because it's such a hole in the wall, you might miss it!
