If I lived in Amarillo, I would be here all the time.  I wish they had a band playing the night I was in town, but I guess it's only every other wednesday.  The art on the walls were great and they've got a super awesome selection of magazines to look through.  A very artsy and eclectic vibe, I felt right at home.  Wish I was able to try some of their vegan eats (chili and hummus, to name a couple) but instead tried out their coffee.  Tasty!

Comfy couches in each room and patio seating is available and its set in a very cute area of town.  Next time I'm in the area I'll stop by again and try the food.

I really like the vibe at this indie coffee house. Great coffee, delicious food, friendly staff. I had the most delicious pizza bagel. Try it with spinach, it was perfect. The espresso is good quality, and the drinks are made well. Lots of space inside. There is a smoking room inside.

I'm old! That's it. I throw in the towel.

I used to be a hep-cat in a previous life, but this place was filled with hep-cats young enough to be my personal hep-kittens. So really, it's not their fault that they gave me little glaring looks, and whispered a bit behind cupped hands... it's been over twenty years since I was first in a punk-rock-type band. I'm old! Too old to drink decaf lattes in Amarillo after dark, at least.

Don't let the fact that they're playing Peter Murphy over the sound system fool you (even though he's way older than me)... this is not a place for people old enough to be out of college. And that includes you, you grad student types. It's a really, really young crowd. I drank my latte, paged through an art magazine, and split. ASAP. If I were young, and of the pierced and tatted aesthetic, this would be the place. The rest of town looks deserted (except the tittie bars and liquor stores)...

I'll admit it, Amarillo scares me. And I lived in some pretty scary places, in my previous life.

As an Austinite I was pleasantly surprised and delighted to find a crunchy, hip little non-corporate coffee shop in the heart of the 806 area code (aka Amarillo).

Highlights: comfortable, lived-in feeling to the decor. Great (cheap) coffee during happy hour.  Tasty baked goods.

Will definitely go back any time I have a chance while in Amarillo.

This place is a mecca of creative culture in Amarillo. Lovely. There is a well-stocked community library (Bret Easton Ellis, Carl Sagan, Thoreau, political and philosophical blah-de-blah, all good fare) and stacks of smart, cheeky magazines which the owner brings to share.

The coffee is tasty and hot enough to satisfy. I was a little bummed with my individual packet of cream cheese that came with my blueberry bagel on my first visit, just because I err on the side of less packaging and lower overhead, but the croissant I had this morning was very tasty. AND *update* Jason listens, he really listens! When I visited again recently, lo and behold...no more individually packaged cream cheese. I love you, 806. I LOVE you.

The art tables are beautiful, and the art on the walls, from a local painter I believe named Mardy Lemmons - absolutely breathtaking. The 806 is a wonderful space in which to spend time; a gift to locals and a comforting respite from the shaky cultural-out-of-placeness easily experienced by an Oregonian girl visiting North Texas. (Revision: Excuse me! West Texas).

FINALLY, a cool place to just hang out in Amarillo!

The space is amazing: there's a library, a smoking lounge (remember to vote in the upcoming local election!), themed rooms, tons of plants, tabletops painted by local artists and to top it off, they use the place as an art gallery. All in all, gorgeous.

And unlike ROASTERS, who would have you believe they're all about community, this place actually IS about it, and they put their money where their mouths are.

On the day that I write this, the 806 will be hosting an event called First Thursdays... 3 live DJs and the month's featured artist. Plus tons of other live music events, but no cover! Ever!

They've done blood drives for Coffee Memorial and food drives for the HIgh Plains Food Bank, and they participated in the Tap Project. Everytime you turn around they're doing something crazy awesome.

Oh, and of course, the coffee and tea are great, as are the pastries & snacks. I wish they had more savory items, but that is one teensy complaint in a sea of overwhelmingly good things. They even have genmaicha (great) and Thai iced tea (better)!

I have been waiting SO LONG for this place to open... it takes me back to Eugene, where people are actually interested in having community spaces disguised as coffee shops.

Get out there and support them if you want it to continue!

Also, the days of BYOB are over, but now they have a license to sell beer & wine. Huzzah! I couldn't tell you about the wine, but the beer selection is great... a couple of Rogue offerings, Newcastle, Sierra Nevada, Paulaner... that sort of thing.

    Quit reading and just go!

Stopped by this place on my cross country trip... I think the high reviews are more for this place as a hang out spot than for the food/coffee.

This place has definite appeal... Spacious, lots of seating, free wi-fi, very artsy and creative....

We ordered a few dishes to help us continue on our way: pizza bagel - pretty good; plain bagel with cream cheese (in response to someone else's post - they still use packaged cream cheese); hummus - eh. I've had better.

I ordered a soy chai and the bf ordered a iced thai tea - both were mediocre... that thai tea was definitely NOT thai tea.

Note: the place reeks of smoke... I forget that people can still smoke indoors in some places...=/

As a whole: to hang out - probably cool... for the coffee/food - look elsewhere.

Delightful place. Good tea selection and the baristas (for lack of a better word) are wonderfully knowledgeable. I also seriously want to make out with their beer selection.

My brother and I drove from New Jersey to Arizona. Half way through the trip it was decided that we were sick of road food and trucker stops. In Amarillo, unfortunately, that is really your only option, and then there was the 806.
I would like to thank the 806 for providing us with some wifi, some nice people, some cookies, and some good coffee. I have a bit of a sweet-tooth so I ordered the Starf*cker. I was happy with my decision.

I recently saw a friend perform a musical set at 806.  Nice intimate environment, friendly staff, eclectic crowd, but everyone got along just fine.  A nice stop on 6th.  BYOB or have some coffee.

There isn't much to do in Amarillo, but the 806 keeps me entertained. Aside from the open mic night on Wednesdays, which are full of really RUDE teenagers, tis great.  They have tons of  reading material including artforum magazine( one of my favorites) , the coffee/tea is great, and they have a good selection of beer.  The staff is also super nice.

On a recent cross country road trip, we passed through Armarillo and were hungry. Searching for vegetarian options on Yelp resulted in limited options - so we headed over to the 806. Sure glad we did. It was yummy. As I said, we were hungry so had chili, pizza bagels and nachos. All were delicious but I think the pizza bagles were the best! Overall we were quite pleased with our stop & enjoyed the local scene while we ate. Highly recommended!
