One of the best in East Hampton!

You enter the restaurant / hotel into a small, but elegant parlor with gorgeous carved wood paneling, bookshelves, fireplace, slipper chairs, and old fashioned guest check-in window.

There are two distinct and different dining areas.  The main dining area on the ground floor is designed in an Elegant Country Manorhouse style.  The tables are well-spaced apart, antique tables, wicker / rattan chairs with custom-made cushions.  The decor is Minimalistic Country with light colors and natural finishes.

There is a downstairs pub dining area.  It is reminiscent of a great find in Ireland.  The downstairs is very small, divided into two areas, one with a very small bar - probably room for only two stools, and has a fireplace, and two or three tables,  the other room has 3-4 tables.  It's quite rustic feeling.

Menu-wise, the downstairs offers both the grill / pub style menu as well as the formal menu from the upstairs dining room.

We've tried everything and love everything.  Scallops with beurre blanc and julienne of locally grown vegetable, orange and fennel soups, foie gras, etc., as well as superb burgers (in the downstairs room).

The menu is elegant American cuisine with a focus on local specialties, seafood, very fresh and in-season greens, simple sauces, highest quality meat selections.

The upstairs room is fantastic for any special occasion evening.  We love to go to the downstairs pub room in the wintertime.

It's pricey - but it's great quality, service, and dining experience.

The location is perfect - it's on Main Street across the street from Town Pond, so you really do feel like you are at a country manorhouse rather than a resort town in the middle of the bustle.

Perfection.

Excellent.  Food is fantastic.  We took the advice of the earlier review and ordered both the salmon carpacio and the stripped bass ceviche.  Both were awesome.  We followed that with the jumbo scallops and swordfish entrees with a great Burgundy.  The place is "old school" as suggested by the name.  It's not the scene of Nick and Toni's, Della Femina or the Laundry but the food is better than all three.  The back garden on the right night could be one of the most romantic spots in NY.  Service was a bit spotty but very nice.   Definitely go!

Background - I am a serious foodie, and thus don't give 5 stars lightly.  Notwithstanding my 4 star rating, this place is very good.

Went for dinner with some local friends last night.  Tried the salmon carpacio (lots of avocado) and the stripped bass ceviche (excellent.  The fish is a in larger pieces than most ceviches, but the texture and flavor are both excellent).  Then moved on to the scallops, and my daughter had the strip steak  which I tried as well (huge and thick and cooked to perfection - 12 to 14 oz.'s I would guess).  The big juicy perfectly cooked scallops came with mushrooms, mashers and a truffle sauce - excellent.  The rest of our party was also very impressed.

I would rate this place as around or just below a Michelin 1 star.

A key tip - the price fixe menu (available 5:30 to 6:30 pm) is basically the same menu as the ala-carte, but about half price ($32 per person).  Some items carry an upcharge ($9 for the steak, e.g.), but it is still a real deal (and unlike many fixed price menus, you have pretty much the same choices as the regular menu).

$450 including tax and tip for five of us, so this place isn't cheap - but for a white table cloth dinner, it was very good.

Housed at an 18th-century inn, the charming, old school restaurant brings out your inner English artistocrat -- without the irritating snobbery.

We got there on time and were invited to have a drink in parlor, appointed with comfortable slipper chairs, a fireplace and bookshelves with volumes from "days yore."

The dining room itself was comfortable and classic, with lovely antique fixtures and privacy-encouraging spacing of tables.

We tried the fois gras brule, which was fantastic.  Other apps that were out of this world were the Kumamoto oysters, the beet salad, the artichoke salad and the most incredible pumpkin bisque that I have ever tasted.  They also brough us this Turbot Tartar which was out of this world.

For main dishes, three of our four person party had the miso-glazed Salmon and were ecstatic.  I had the chicken which was pretty damn incredible.

The only complaint that I had of this place was that we had a 9PM reservation and waited a full hour for people to vacate our designated spot.  The manager was apologetic and bought us several items to make it up to us.

Was definitely worth the wait no matter. what.
