Quick story - When I was younger, my family went on vacation to Canada. I had found this trip to be decent in my 11-year old mind, but nothing stellar. That is, until I heard my parents say that we were going to Busch Gardens. Finally, I thought this would be great - a theme park, something I could definitely enjoy. Unfortunately, I didn't hear them correctly and was more than disappointed to find out that where they took me and my sister was actually Butchart Gardens - BIG DIFFERENCE. There isn't a single picture of me smiling because I was so disappointed. So what does this have to do with the Thanksgiving Point Gardens? I'll tell you...

I thought that I would hate these gardens. I've never been a fan of looking at flowers, and didn't think that things would have changed much over the years. Add in that I came here on a date with a guy I wasn't all that into and I was pretty much setting myself up for disappointment. Well, I was wrong. This place is amazing. It's HUGE first of all. Some parts are like a miniature (very miniature) Versailles Gardens. There's a coi pond, incredible fountains, a secret garden, and in incredible waterfall - the largest manmade waterfall in the US. It's absolutely beautiful, and I'm sure a very good date when you just want to get lost in the gardens. I had an incredible time there, and when you're at the top of the gardens looking down, or down looking up, it looks amazing.

Unfortunately, we came a little too late to rent the segways, which would have been a sweet perk to exploring the gardens, especially since there is so much to see, but walking was just fine and really relaxing. Oh, the chances are high that you're going to find a lot of girls taking their bridal shots here, which is definitely expected around these parts.

Overall, I would definitely come back here. It costs $10 to get in, but it's nice for a relaxing day and just enjoying your surroundings.

Specialties

Most guests agree that the Thanksgiving Point Gardens are the biggest surprise that Thanksgiving Point has to offer. Spread out over fifty five sprawling acres, they represent some of the most vivacious terrain in the West. Within the grounds, there are 15 separate themed gardens.

Add to that 13 acres of turf grass, a quarter million tulips, seventy varieties of roses, and the largest manmade waterfall in the Western hemisphere, and you can understand how the Gardens keep its staff of twenty-six seasonal gardeners and six full-time staff members busy.

So how do you pull something like this off in a desert? Thanksgiving Point Gardens operates a complex water reclamation system that collects millions of gallons of runoff throughout the property and even from Interstate 15 to be used in watering garden vegetation. The results are both beautifully responsible and responsibly beautiful.

Really, you need to see it to believe it.

History

Established in 1996

How exactly did an oasis spring out of the Lehi desert?

When Alan and Karen Ashton, co-founders of WordPerfect Corporation, purchased the property now known as Thanksgiving Point on Valentine's Day, 1995, it had 580 dairy cows and more than 350 acres of hay, barley, and alfalfa fields. Initially, the new owners bought the land for a farm where their children could enjoy riding horses and caring for farm animals. But their plans soon expanded to include beautiful flower gardens and extensive vegetable gardens.

By the summer of 2006, the nonprofit institute included the fifty-five acre Thanksgiving Point Gardens, Museum of Ancient Life, Farm Country, Harvest Restaurant, Deli and Bakery, eight large conference and banquet rooms, the Emporium with gracious offerings for your home, ten acres of beautifully landscaped reception areas; a 4,000-seat outdoor waterfall amphitheatre, and; an 18-hole championship golf course.
