[I heard a rumor that they've gone out of business... Can anyone confirm this??]
Super happy with both the food and the delivery service. I have called in lunch for my office and for client meetings dozens of times, to everyone's satisfaction. -

I was wandering around the Marina and came across Thaina through a yelp search. It was lunch time so I scored one of their lunch specials. I got a green curry with chicken. The food came out fast which I really appreciated cuz I was stah-vin.
So the curry...it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. Wait staff was attentive though and it was a good portion of food. Nothing to write home about though. -

Like most people, I hated high school.
I wasn't a band geek. I wasn't a jock. I wasn't a drama freak.
I was a "cool kid," or so it seemed. But I never felt cool and I never liked my friends. They were mega-bitches; Even the guys. Mocking for sport; Being rude to those who are different than you; feeling entitled. It just wasn't my thing.
I was self conscious because my "friends" taught me to be. I ate with my hand in front of my mouth for f*ck sake. It's not normal. Just when I was about to write people off, I went to college and I found friends who didn't care what I wore, who didn't judge what I ate, who didn't mock me when I was drunk off my ass eating peanuts or kibble or whatever the f*ck it was off the floor of that party, who laughed with each other, not at each other.
One of us became a roller derby queen
Another, an elementary school teacher
One embraced her hippie roots and moved to Yosemite
Another, my Yelp bitch
A meek girl constantly on joke probation is showing the world her strength
I traveled the world with another.
These women are different. They're Marina, they're New York, they're Yosemite, and they're worldly. They're all wonderful and when we get together, such as we did last night at Tom Yum to bid our hippie farewell yet again, we talked till our voices went hoarse; laughed till our abs ached like we'd just done a week of boot camp; and ate till the buttons on our jeans popped.
We don't all get together in a group very often, maybe once every five or six months, but getting together over a magnificent meal is more than any of us can ask for. Sure we enjoy the hell out of each others company over Doritos and a camping stove, but sharing the warm and rich flavors of perfectly executed Thai cuisine reminds me of the warm fuzzies I always feel after spending time with my ladies.
We gushed over pumpkin curry, we giggled over tom kha ga, we gasped over pad thai and special eggplant, and noshed on summer rolls. The food at Tom Yum was as comforting as the company of my favorite friends and I will most certainly be back to enjoy the homey atmosphere and amazing food.
Oh, did I mention that my ladies are cheap bitches? We went to Chico, right? So we learned early on that money was meant to be spent on booze. Sure I can live off Top Ramen for two months, just make sure I have enough Joes (Coors Light cans used to have pictures of Joe Montana on them) to keep me tipsy. A meal at Tom Yum for six hungry women cost us $13 each....what could be more comforting than that?Listed in: Fatty's Big Day

After helping my friend feed, bathe and put her 1 yr old twins to bed I was hungry for dinner! Exhausted too, but first it was dinner time.
Our goal was to find some place that delivered because apparently you can't just leave the sleeping babies alone. I learn something new everyday..seriously. We did some research on Yelp and thought Thai food from Tom Yum sounded yummy.
Within a 30 minutes (fast delivery!) the following arrived at our doorstep:
Pad se ew
Special eggplant
Brown rice
And mango & sticky rice for dessert
The delivery guy even followed the directions of not ringing the doorbell so the twins would stay fast asleep. Phew!
Everything was delish- sure beats most of the Thai delivery places back home in Chicago. I couldn't get enough of the pad se ew (had about 7 helpings) and the special eggplant was excellent. The special eggplant is also served with very tasty chicken- coming from someone who is very picky about her chicken.
However, the best dish was dessert (go figure). I insisted on the mango & sticky rice after reading the rave reviews on Yelp and the yelpers were right. Ending your Tom Yum meal with mango & sticky rice is a must!
My friend complained she can't find many delivery options since moving to SF, but I'd personally be happy to order in from Tom Yum every night of the week.Listed in: Planning a Trip to SF!

A few notes about Tom Yum:
1. Calling 411 for the phone number to Tom Yum doesn't work, they will connect you to Thomas Yum. This is not the same as the restaurant.
2. When you do get in touch with them to order delivery (by looking their number up online, not through 411) you will probably think that they didn't understand a word you said and you're never going to get your food.
3. Your food really does show up at your house! And in the amount of time they said it would take! Miracle!
4. My favorite thing about this place is you don't have to get a HUGE vat of soup like a lot of thai places. You can just get a cup, then something else.
5. Their portions are GINORMOUS, but cold pad thai rivals cold pizza as the ultimate morning food, especially when trying to kill a nasty hangover.
In conclusion - this place is pretty sweet. -

Friends and I were debating where and what to eat and came to a consensus on Thai food - what a great choice since I haven't eaten at a Thai restaurant since, oh, last December. . . No kidding. You try attempting to make it at home, but it's just never the same.
We were going to go to Yukol, but menu items there were a bit pricey and the atmosphere there looked more like a place to go for a romantic date or something, so I mean if I was on a date, maybe I would have gone there, but we came here instead - still, this Tom Yum would definitely qualify as a decent place if you're on a date.
Inside of the restaurant had a simple, modern feel to it with nice lighting, but I do agree with my friend that the walls were kinda bare - a few photos/art on the wall would have been nice. Service was good; waitresses there were very nice and smiling so that was cool.
Friends ordered the Pad Kee Mow and Fried Rice and they were quite happy with their order. I ordered the Green Curry w/Pork and it was one of the best I've tasted:) It came with eggplant, bamboo shoots, green peppers, red peppers, green beans, zucchini and basil. Slightly spicy, yet mellow at the same time - the emphasis here definitely was on the coconut milk. My only complaint would have been that the pork was a little tough - next time, I would order it w/chicken instead.
Oh, by the way, this place is great if you are a veggie aficionado - lots of veggies in their dishes and vegetarian options. . . Mama gon' be proud that u got yoself 'nuff servings of vegetables for the day. . . Well, at least I know my Mama will:)
The portions here are big so you get what you pay for, which is always appreciated. The water they served here was good too - it had a hint of lime to it. Prices here average from $5.95-8.95 with their most expensive item being $11.95. Great place to go to if you're around the area; it was a brief walk for us from the Exploratorium/Palace of Fine Arts. -

Excellent Thai food - Tom Yum is YUM fo sho!
We ordered the Spicy Basil Thai Style - "sauteed with spicy chili garlic sauce, sweet basil, bell pepper and vegetables" - with chicken, super good, and the Pad Kee Mow - "stir-fried flat rice noodle with chip pepper, garlic, onion, basil, bell pepepr, tomato and bean sprouts" - with shrimp, highly addictive and definitely recommended. Came amazingly fast for SF delivery, was very cheap - $15 minimum for delivery order so I think we came to like $15.50, and tasted really really fresh and healthy compared to a lot of delivery food.
Will be back - and can't wait to try their Tom Yum soup! -

I have been here a few times now and I have really enjoyed the food and the dinning experience. Very low key, with a friendly staff. The menu is pretty big and I think the prices are great. The first few times we came here, we did wait a bit for the check, so now we just ask for it when we get our food. I think they don't want to rush you, so if you are in a hurry, just ask.
I love the crunchy cashew chicken and the spicy basil beef. Just the right amount of spice for me, as I don't like it too hot! Place is never busy and they have free delivery in the area. Check it out!! -

Corn cakes! These remind me of something called corn fritters from Roberts Market in Woodside when I was growing up. They looked like little chicken nuggets but they were breaded sweet corn. Super tasty snack. My friend and I once got into a good natured shoving and cursing match in the deli over who got the last container of them. My friend knocked an old man over a baby stroller and broke the guys hip. It was really dramatic and sad, but at least I had corn fritters. OK, the broken hip part isn't true.
I got delivery from Tom Yum and was surprised by how good it was. Try the corn cakes (pronounce "cone cakes" for a laugh). I gave it 4 stars for great selection, quick delivery, generous portions and overall yummyness. As I've said before and will say again, anything tastes good if you fry it enough and fresh sweet corn is no exception. Curries were big and flavorful. I was blown away by the coconut ice cream, really thick and creamy. Yummy yummy Tom Yum. -

I hate the Marina... a lot. If not for the Apple store and my friend, I would never venture here. Tom Yum was next to the most douchey bar in the Marina (so I was told) and for the Marina.. that's hell of a lot of douche. Apparently, Jone's is yuppie douchey as opposed to college douche so at least there's a gradient. So Tom Yum wasn't looking too good. However, as you walk in the decor is nice and it was not crowded at all.
The waitresses wear Thai dresses and the menu had a wide selection of authentic Thai dishes. The Tom Kha soup was really good and penang curry was just perfect. Their brown rice was cooked well but the pad thai was a little sweet and only had 3 pieces of shrimp. Overall, a nice mean for $13/each for 3 people .. not too bad.
The service was a little slow, but methinks they get a lot of Togo orders which causes a bit of wait in the restaurant, but worth it. -

This place is run by women only! (Well I didn't see any men there when I visited but I may be wrong) How awesome is that?? I give them props for that.
Service was okay (really slow is what I mean) for they were short of staff. Decor is just like your average Thai joint. Dim with statues and Thai-inspired objects.
Main dishes are about $7-11 bucks. Food is passable.
I came here with a buddy and got the lunch special. It's around $7 bucks for a dish, fruit and soup. Soup was just broth based with some veggies thrown in. The eggplant dish was so-so. Quite flavorful. We also got the appetizer special with spring rolls, lamb kabobs and something else that I can't recall at the moment. The lamb kabob was really flavorful. I was looking forward to their peanut sauce because I absolutely love peanut sauce but their peanut sauce was seriously bland as hell. I have had so much better elsewhere.
I don't think I will be making a trip back here unless I'm in the area and in dire need of a Thai craving to be satisfied. -

Very tasty Thai for a reasonable price. I'm a big fan of curries, pad thai, and Tom Yum soup.... and this place does all of those pretty darn well.
The only weird thing is that they never seem busy. Every time I've gone in to eat, I'm the only person in there. But I suspect they do a LOT of take out orders (which is usually what i do when I get food there). The space is quiet and well decorated though, so not a bad place to sit down and eat.
The service is good... the waitresses are all very nice and sweet. And they're quick :) -

Excellent.
Went last night for dinner. My boyfriend and I walked in at around 8:30 to this almost deserted restaurant (there was only one other couple eating). Generally, I would take this as a bad sign and reconsider eating somewhere, but my roommate had already recommended the place.
The warm Tom Kha soup with tofu hit the spot. The veggies were fresh and the taste of the lime juice and coconut broth was sublime. We also ordered the evil jungle prince curry. I liked the taste of the peanut coconut milk but I found the chicken a little dry for my tastes. I probably would have ordered it with tofu or pork had I had the choice.
Next time I think I'll try the pumpkin curry as that is always my test dish for Thai places. We also ordered the pad se-ew with veggies and it was so good! A little skimpy on the veggies, but, eh, you can't win 'em all.
The presentation of the food was nice as well. The rice was excellent and nicely presented with a cute little carrot-piece on top shaped into a tiny flower.
The sweet sticky rice was warm, gooey and delicious with a huge, fresh portion of perfectly-ripe (meaning firm and a little on the green side) mango.
The service was also wonderful. Our server was attentive and our water glasses were always full.
Additionally, I don't know what radio station they were playing or if it was a playlist, but the music selection was probably the best music selection I've ever heard played at a restaurant (other than maybe Little Star or somewhere with quality live music while you eat)!Listed in: My regular fixes

I tried their take out yesterday. It took them about 30 minutes to get here. The food (or at least what I order) was ok. I got the Fried Calamari and the Pad Thai.
The calamari were a little hard to eat as large rings with lots of batter. Kinda bland, perhaps because of the excess batter.
The Pad Thai was ok as well. Nothing really special. I've had better. Not sure if I'd go again though. I'd probably try a different place instead. If you're particular on taste, this wouldn't be the place to check out...at least not for take out for these two dishes. -

This is our local delivery thai place- the cashew chicken is a fav...appetizers - shrimp/salmon roll and thai samosas...tom yum soup was on the sweet side... like mine hot/sour and not too tangy sweet; another entree that I didnt care for was their seafood dish- it was like frozen seafood mix sauteed in their hot sauce- the calamari was leathery, shrimp was pasty texture and mussels were the same
:-( The chicken pad eggplant had a thin sauce and banana fritters were on the oily side... -

One of the greatest Thai Restaurants I've been to.
There are other Thai restaurants that arent too great, but this one really keeps its authenticity. We came here in a large group and after we ordered and received our appetizers, we didn't think we had enough food. We ordered the combination of appetizers-- samosas, chicken satay, etc. For our main dishes-- yellow curry, pad thai, eggplant, some veggie dishes, and honestly I cant really remember the rest. Regardless, it was a great dinner, and very fulfilling for very little $!
The service was great, the thai tea is AWESOME and the fried bananas are delicious!! -

I would probably give Tom Yum four stars for their food, had they not messed up my order over the phone AGAIN last night. The food is great, but if you order for take-out or delivery and have ANY special requests, forget about them coming out right. My order has now been messed up at least five times (and that's a conservative number). Of course, shame on me for continuing to order and then getting mad when the food arrives....but it's just so gooooood!
Tom Yum: "What would you like?"
Me: "Spicy Thai Basil with no meat, no tofu, just vegetables. And Tom Yum Soup with no meat, no tofu, just vegetables. Again, no meat and no tofu in anything, just vegetables. Got it?"
Tom Yum: "Ok, let me repeat. Order Spicy Thai Basil and order Tom Yum Soup, just vegetables. Got it."
If you can crack the secret code of what I did wrong to deserve both a soup and meal full of tofu, please explain it to me.
One more downside for take-out: The packaging is the worst! They use styrofoam containers with a strip of tin foil for lining, wrap it in a plastic bag and close it with scotch tape. Now if they're trying to save money on containers, I'm noticing they're using four different products to package one small dish. Needless to say, this doesn't keep the food in, the bag gets sopped with sauce (which is now a waste, along with the rice you were going to soak in it), and you have to open the thing over your sink or your kitchen will be a mess. All you wanna do is eat, but your whole world is now sticky.
The pluses: The people are so nice, the food really is good, and they just renovated the entire place, so the atmosphere is pretty decent if you choose to dine in. -

This is my go-to Thai take-out from the Marina.
The prices are right, their service is fast, and the food is very tasty. Several of the highlights for my friends and I are:
- Tom Kha soup
- Pineapple Fried Rice
- Pa Naeng Curry
- Pumpkin Curry
All portions are generous. Also very nice is the fact that you can order online. Just go to their website. They take special orders through it, and you can request (w/in 15 minutes) a delivery or pick-up time. -

I just had lunch here and it was delish. We were heading to Benjarong based on the good reviews from fellow Yelpers. Turns out it was closed for the holidays. So, we decided to try Tom Yum, also based on Yelp reviews. I am thrilled to say that I have found another great Thai fave.
Tom Yum is very clean with nice and simple yet comfortable decor. The staff was very sweet, the prices were very reasonable and the food was fantastic!
While I was searching for options, I did notice that many of the Thai options in this neighborhood didn't really have lunch menus (or prices). I found that most places offered plates ranging from $7.00-9.00. I'm sorry, but you're looking at a $10.00 lunch without any sides or drinks. I personally like having lunch options for around $6.00.
I will definitely be heading back to Tom Yum soon as it's in the neighborhood of my work and I really can't go a week without Thai.
Thanks Yelp, for another great find! -

Bummer.
I always get my food to go and last time I ordered from here, I got a huge surprise when I opened my take-out box at home. I ordered a noodle dish with some tofu and vegetables (Pad Kee Mow). What I got was some tofu and vegetables - but **no noodles**! Haha! How do you forget the noodles in a noodle dish?!?
This time I went there, I didn't get a huge surprise, just a big fat disappointment. I got the Pad Kee Mow again (because I didn't learn my lesson last time). They remembered the noodles this time (yay) but only gave me three pieces of tofu. Booo. I also got the summer rolls, which had a ridiculously disproportionate amount of lettuce compared to the tofu and rice noodles. The dinner was such a waste of money. I ended up throwing my leftovers away - not even worth keeping :(
I'm giving them two starts because they used to be great. They've just been slipping up recently (maybe trying to save money and they're skimping on the good ingredients?). Either way, I won't be coming back. With so many Thai restaurants in the neighborhood, I think it's time I give another place a try now. -

Atmosphere: Lovely, I came at a time when the place was desolate, but the décor was much nicer inside than the outside would suggest.
Service: Fantastic! My waitress was super-nice. She couldn't speak English very well, but that didn't stop her from asking why I was in San Francisco and giving me directions to Fisherman's Wharf (a great deal of it done through body language and fragmented sentences)
Food: Appetizer combination (Chicken sa-tay, Po-Piah, Samosa, and Veggie Roll; served w/ sweet & sour sauce and peanut sauce.), complimentary soup and salad, Thai iced tea, and a spicy shrimp, vegetable, and cashew concoction off the lunch menu. Generous, yummy, filling. -

Update: I went back, dropping them to 3 stars. The noodle dish uses American broccoli, not Chinese.
Wished I could give them 3.5 star, but since it's either 3 or 4 star I'll be nice and bump them up, not down. I had the seafood noodle soup with flat rice noodles. The brothe was clear and tasty, if a bit on the bland side. Have had better noodle soups, but I'd eat again for lunch... -

Went here for a small bite one rainy Sunday evening. Pant legs soaked we weren't sure they were open since there was only one other couple in the place. Needless to write we were promptly seated but not so promptly served.
We ordered the appetizer platter, two soups, a beer for him and a tea for me. Tea was luke warm. We waited...
We waited some more...and then we waited some more...
finally our platter came out, delivered with an apology but they were very busy. the apology could have, nay would have been accepted if our food arrived HOT! Egg rolls shouldn't be served moderately warm...really they shouldn't.
Not two bites into the platter and our soup came out too! It was a bit warmer and, actually, tasty.
rain or shine, the management of in house customers should be equally as important as takeout and delivery orders. -

I've never actually been to Tom Yum but I am a loyal subscriber to their Thai delivery. I don't think their delivery is fast at all, and it's ranged 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hours to deliver to me in the nearby Marina. I'm pissed if my food is cold, but most of the time it's not and it's pretty delicious.
If you're trying to be healthy, I would recommend their spring rolls (don't douse it in the peanut sauce) and an order of Grilled Thai BBQ Chicken with brown rice. It's delicious and savory and really low fat. If you're looking to splurge, the Shrimp Pad Thai is gourmet quality and the fried bananas in honey are a very sweet indulgence. Don't get the grilled snapper. It is scary, I will leave it at that!
Be patient, and always tip well, and you'll be treated like their best customer and get delivered to faster! -

Had a good experience earlier but its gown downhill since the change of ownership. The delivery portions have been cut by half.If you eat there ,don't finish your meal and want a doggy bag you can be sure they wont give you all your food in it. They'll keep a portion of it and give you half!!! The nerve!! What's more, this restaurant has violated health inspection rules recently.Be safe.

I have eaten here several times, and I always seem to order the Pumpkin Chicken Curry. Probably because I love pumpkin curry and Tom Yum's tastes great! My wife has ordered several other dishes of which I have sampled. Everything tasted great!
Bottom Line: Good Thai food and decent prices -

really nothing to write home about. it was bland, the tom yum noodle soup was a bit tasteless. it tastes more like the normal sweet clear broth you find at food stands on the streets (of bangkok).

Lunch special is only $5.95!!!! comes with steamed rice, soup of the day, fruit and one dish you pick from their menu.
For dinner: my favorite is 58- Pad Talay with huge scalops, mussells, squid, shrimp - only $9.95. other restaurants charge around $13 dollars! or 59 - seafood also, same price.
Pad thai is only $6.55 vegetarian or with meat $7.25.
they specialize in noodle and rice dishes. There are no curry dishes.
It is a very homy food. Reminds me of getting my lunch fix at cheap thai restaurant at the coast of Krabi, Surathani area....when I was travelling several years ago.
friendly staff.
if you are on a budget but still want to eat good thai food, this is a good place to try! cuz it is in marina, and you wont find anything cheaper than this place. ops, except for slice of cheese pizza on scott st. =) -

There's quite a number of Thai restaurants on Lombard. I've been to all but Yukol Place, just a block away. They're all roughly a 3-4 star, and Tom Yum is no exception. I didn't care much for the lumpy consistency of the peanut sauce. But the tofu was perfectly cooked, no soggy bean curd here. They also serve gluten, which is always a welcome addition to a normally redundant Thai menu. Overall, it's a nice, casual joint for Thai in the Marina.

I've been in here twice and ordered takeout from them a number of times. I spent two months in Thailand and eat Thai food constantly, and I have to say, this place has the BEST Tom Yum soup of anywhere in these United States. The service is super friendly and the atmosphere is totally laid back with nice stained bamboo furniture and pastoral scenes of Thailand on the wall. Some of my favorite other items are the sticky rice, the basil chicken and the fresh mango with sweet rice pudding is to die for. It's not some fancy night out, but if you're looking for a low key restaurant with delicious Thai food and friendly service, Tom Yum is perfect!

An farily empty undiscovered jewel in the Marina. Everytime I have been here (i go about twice a month) the resturant is fairly empty. I am not sure why that is.. because the food this is so yummy. If you are looking for authentic Thai cusine, then this is the place to eat. The food is fresh and good, and the staff is friendly. the spicy rice is one of my fav's.

Rode my bike here on a Monday night with my boyfriend. There was barely anyone inside, and from the time we sat down till the time I paid the check an hour had gone by. It's super clean and has really cute furniture. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. We ordered the combination appetizer platter which came with egg rolls, potato samosa's, and chicken satay. For our entrees we had the tamarind duck, and the tofu pad Thai. Both were good however there was barley any meat with the duck, mostly just the fat. Next time I think I will try their delivery.

My first time in San Fran, Im stayin at the B&B across the street and spot Tom Yum. Yum? OK! Head on over, hoping that at least theyll have some tofu or something. Ah, but did they have something even better..vegetarian "meats". Yes! The food was so tasty and so spicy, thank god. I hate weak spices, but this place was good. They also offered us some hot tea while we waited for our food, which didnt take long at all. If in San Fran by the Marina, stop by this place for some great Thai, vegetarian or not.

We ordered delivery from Tom Yum this past weekend, and I was very happy with it. I was told it would be about 45 minutes, and our food arrived in a half hour. Always a good start. We ordered: Beef Satay, Tom Kha Gai Soup, Shrimp Pad Thai, and Chicken Panang Curry. Oh, and some white rice. The best part was how fresh everything tasted, that they use only white chicken breast meat, and they throw vegetables in everything! I was a huge fan of the peas and bell peppers that were in the curry. The pad thai was good, certainly not the best I've ever had, but for a cheap delivery option I will not complain at all. Next time I'm craving Thai delivery, they have my business!

May be I am cheap or this place is expensive! Since I do not normally pay about $8 for pad thai! The lunch dishes are much cheaper then the dinner ones though! I am not sure if the prices are correct since in some places the prices do not match up! I did not even have lime in my pad thai to go! It was pretty good though! Packed with flavor! I guess it was worth it but they did not give much. I can get cheaper for more at thai time! I should just come here for lunch then!
