Aside from Araya's (which is in a category all its own), the Thai-ger Room is the best damn Thai food I've had in Seattle, and I've had quite a bit. Having eaten tofu phad thai here COUNTLESS times (since 2001 or so), I can vouch for their ridiculous consistency. Never have I had a dish that seemed a little off or tasted weird like I've experienced at other Thai places around the city. The spicy Thai-ger sauce dish is also awesome, and I've heard good (and consistent) things about their peanut sauce. Need to try their phad see ew one of these days...

I enjoy the hole in the wall vibe of it, with the exposed brick walls and cooking done right behind the front counter. The service is always quick and attentive, and the to-go option is easily executed if that's what you're after.

I guess it's okay that the Thai-ger room seems to be a bit underrated - you never have to wait for a table!

First, we ordered takeout, which may very well be different than the restaurant experience.  And let me just say, as frequently as we eat Thai, I can comfortably say, this was a disappointing turnout.  It wasn't inedible by any means, but the portions were ... sad.

My meal (Pad See Ew) had carrots in it.  Carrots?!  And they weren't even pretending to be fresh.  They were the ridged, cross-sections of carrot straight from the freezer section.  Gross.  Broccoli and tofu were hard to find in the noodley mess.  My boyfriend's meal didn't have much chicken in it and there wasn't enough rice.  We didn't even know it was possible not to get enough rice from a Thai restaurant!

I can safely say that with all the amazing Thai options in the city, we will NEVER be ordering from them again (or even trying the dining in experience).

(The only reason I gave them two stars instead of one because it was technically edible.)

Okay service, better than expected house salad for $2.50, the prawn + chicken salad is (imo) worth skipping, the Thom Kha is pretty tasty but the broth was thicker than I'm used to (and like).

Over all... the place is okay, but not on the list of places I prefer to get Thai on the Ave.

I just can't get excited about anything here. Sorry.

You can choose your level of spicy?? Combo specials that have an entree, white rice and Pad Thai!! Jumping Jehoshaphat's!!
We came here two nights in a row while vacationing in Seattle. We devoured this cold out of the fridge after a couple of drinks. Some of the best Thai I have ever had.

According to other reviewers roaches reside here. People say if you listen to a cockroach very carefully you will receive the gift of magical powers.
If you are crafty enough you must capture this roach and take him to Vegas and carefully put him on the Roulette table where he will run to the winning number and win you millions!

After going to school at UW, Thaiger Room is a favorite for my boyfriend and I. We've since moved out of the area but make the trip from Ballard to get take-out here. After going to Thailand a few years ago, the food here is definitely on top for Seattle. Favorites are red curry, tom ka soup, thaiger noodles, and phad see yew.

Best suggestion is to ask for extra vegetables in the curry and noodle dishes to make each dish even more tasty! If you like spice, the spice level seems to very slightly each time we go so I usually get a 3 or 4 star spice level and ask for extra ground up chili's just in case its not hot enough.

Overall, best Thai food in the area, food comes out quick, and you cant beat the price!

I have a friend who ate here almost every day for several years.  I ate here once a week and that was all the more I could handle.  But if you're too lazy to walk to Thai Tom / wait in line for an hour I'd recommend Thaiger Room as a reasonable #2.  The pad thai, pad siew, thaiger noodles, and curry fried rice are all excellent... highly recommended.

Okay, so there are some problems with this place.  It kind of smells in the back, there are bugs here and there (check the King County health report on uncontrolled rodents / pests), and maybe 1/4 of the waiters are unfriendly.  However, if you happen to go there on a good day you'll get a friendly set of waiters / waitresses, great food, for a good price.

Okay, and seriously, people who go to Thai restaurants and order crab rangoons / crab wontons are morons.  Those things are the most cholesterol saturated pieces of crap ever to emerge from asian-america and quite frankly if you get a cockroach in one of them it's probably a step up on the health ladder from where you would have been.

Probably about par with Little Thai (in my opinion), but definitely much better than Thai 65 (see my review on them if you're curious) or AppeThai.  I'd recommend you get it to go if you can.

I will never order from here again. We ordered delivery for our TA's who were working late grading papers.

Keep in mind - we get food delivered here ALL THE TIME and never have a problem.

The delivery driver called to tell us he did not want to park on the street and bring the food up and we had to come outside to get our food from him, in the pouring rain. My coworker told him delivery drivers can park in the loading dock of my office. The driver, convinced he would get a ticket if he did that refused to park. My co-worker agreed to go outside and meet him in the 3min load/unload zone to get our food. She went out there and he was no where to be found. She came back up stairs and phoned him again, he said he did not want to want in the 3min zone for fear of getting a ticket so he was driving around, he told us he was cancelling our order and he hung up.

Um...it's called delivery, not stand in the rain and wait for you - curbside pick up, if you're not equipped to park and deliver, then don't offer it. We phoned the manager who insisted we must have misunderstood the driver.

Never ever ever again.

My friend from church took me here once, and a group of church friends and I came here after the Sunday service another time. Their yellow curry fried rice is delicious!

I think also that the minimum amount is $10 for any kind of card, credit/debit, in order to avoid a $0.50 charge or something like that, so make sure you have cash on you.

Looking for a night cap and not a night crap? Go to Thai~ger Room!

Traveling (sober) at 1 AM through the U-district looking for food that isn't a hand held artery clogger is more difficult than nailing jello to a wall.

So I felt particularly touched by the gastric gods when I swung by and saw "OPEN" in beautiful neon lights over Thai~ger Room. I won't lie, its not the best Thai food in the city, but it is the best Thai food in the city at 1AM. It also boosts the best service, the GM (who served us) happily exchanged one entree for another on the killer combo menu ($8.50 for hardy portions of pad thai, rice, and green curry-- yum!!!)

My date and I walked right in and grabbed a cozy corner table where we could be alone and reflect on our wonderful evening. Free yourself from Dick's Drive In and do the same.

My first time in this restaurant was just awful. This place was just a hole in the wall! I ordered the pad-see -ew...omg I found a roach or a grasshopper...a damn bug in the rice..I freaked out! The staff kindly took my plate and gave me a new one and they also didn't charge me for the plate. But seriously guys, who the heck wants to go to this place..?!? The health food department needs to raid this place ASAP!

Also, the pictures aren't helpful if they aren't showing the nasty roaches that are in it!

I am a fan....err I was until I read the cockroach review.  Seems honest....and now I am scared to go back but ultimately I might but not until I thoroughly inspect it I suppose.

Either way, I love Thaiger Room.  Their portions are large.  I dislike "greasy" Thai food and theirs is pretty good.  Depends sometimes.  Seems greasier when they are busier.

Their Pad Thai is yummy and not too tomato-ey which I HATE!  There is a nice balance of tastes in their Pad Thai.

Their crab rangoons are mostly yummy too (were a little "soggy" one time) and I am always on a quest for a good crab rangoon which I am finding is equivalent to searching for the Holy Grail.

My lady always gets their various curries and has never complained.

crappy decor? ? whatever, still doesn't matter!

Don't be afraid to order ANYTHING off their menu!
phad thai, pad see yew, thaiger noodles, thom yum, fried rice...
you name it!!!
but seriously... I would never do/recommend this kind of hasty action anywhere else!

holy crap. I just realized that I must've spent a fortune here for the past 2 years.

Stillllllllll doesn't matter!!

I just think that their 5 star could use a little more spice..

and oh yeah, do not go to thai 65. trust me... you'll regret it

As far as Thai food goes, it's slim pickin's on the Ave for something particularly delicious and unique. And, Thaiger Room is no different.

For an appetizer, we ordered crab wontons (which is a plate of about 6 small, thin, crispy, deep fried, cream cheese and crab filled, almost pastry like morsels.) In every other restaurant I've been to that serves these (sometimes known as crab delight) they are stuffed full with the yummy inside goodness (Thai 65 serves them wonderfully). Oh no, not Thagier Room! These were tiny, and overcooked, as the edges were super dry and crispy. A disappointing way to start a dinner..

I ordered the red curry, and wasn't amazed. The flavors were ok, and a little on the soupy side. The rice was cooked well, but what proper Asian restaurant doesn't have decent rice??

All in all, I'd pass up Thaiger Room and check out Veggie Veggie on the Ave, or In the Bowl on Capitol Hill.

I have been to the Thaiger Room before and always been happy with the food. As a part of my never-ending quest for the best green curry I recently tried their take on the dish.  Very impressed!  It wasn't too heavy on the coconut milk but still had a nice, creamy texture.  I don't remember tasting any basil which is a serious no-no but the eggplant pretty much made up for it.

As for the other food we ordered, it was very tasty but they gave us beef instead of chicken in one dish and supposedly wouldn't deliver to my friend's house where they have before.  If I had to choose I would just eat in the restaurant and skip the delivery.

In a rare occurrence, I was allowed to actually treat for dinner.

Through a random "drive until we end up somewhere" that's become somewhat of a habit, with good results, we ended up down here.

Strolling down streets, looking around and finding some interesting characteristics to the restaurant layout of the area, I am SO glad we ended up here.

We did not share garlic chicken however, it was beef. It was the fried rice (also a trusty and often lucky habit choice) that was chicken. My companion ordered 2 stars, and I made gestures to the waiter to "up" that. Which was good, the standard "asian restaurant in America" pie chart on "how to mess with whities with your star system" is ever present here. The "3" was easily a "1" at many other places I've been.

Not enough, however, to make a very tasty and enjoyable meal, suffer in it's star system here on yelp.

I hope to wander back here and try more of the menu.

I have ordered food from Thaiger several times. The delivery arrives before they tell you, the prices are reasonable, the food is generally superb and the people on the phone are nice to deal with.

If you are really picky about the spiciness of your food, their star system of 1-5 will not impress you. Really hit or miss... +/- 2 lol.

I highly recommend the green curry, as it contains many different veggies - not just bamboo shoots and basil. If you order the green curry for delivery, know that the rice and curry come together in the same container (not a tub but a pop open styrofoam dealie)... You might want to get them separated as to keep the rice fresh.

Thaiger Thaiger, burning bright...apologies to William Blake! Easily some of the best Thai I've had, and there is a LOT to be had on the Ave. In a rare treat I was invited out to dinner, and we ended up here after strolling down one side (passing Thai Tom and the ever-present line out the door) and up the other...and I'm glad we landed here.

We shared the garlic chicken as well as the chicken fried rice (a trusted standby), and ordered them 3 stars. Well in truth I started at 2, but it's a good thing the waiter caught the gesture to bump it up a star, because it ended up coming out like 1 star (unlike this review). I didn't read the description well enough on the garlic chicken as the two dishes were rice-heavy, but both were delicious. Portion size was hefty - we couldn't finish either dish, and the price was reasonable...I think it was around $9 or $10 per plate.

Wait service was fast despite the place being packed - I think we got the last table in this small restaurant. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some other Thaiger treats!

I use to frequent the Thaiger Room often and found their green and yellow curries delicious, service was fairly quick as well.

Here was my early rating of Thaiger Room:

Food quality: 4.5/5.0
Portion Size: 5.0/5.0
Menu Selection: 4.0/5.0
Price: 5.0/5.0
Service: 4.0/5.0
Atmosphere: 3.0/5.0
Cleanliness: 1.0/5.0 (Cockroaches in the food!!!)

Fast forward to a couple years after first discovering the Thaiger Room, I went in and found my glass of water cloudy with debris floating around in it and with an off taste.  I asked for a replacement glass and got another cloudy glass of water that was poured from a pitcher that had the same problem.  Strike one.

A few months later I decided to try the Thaiger Room again.  This time I found what appeared to be cockroach legs in my Thai style noodles, but I wasn't sure since the "appendage like" matter was cooked along with my noodles but I didn't like the look of things and got kind of freaked out by what I saw. Strike two.

One night I was walking with my family down the Ave. looking for a place to eat.  I wanted to go to Thai 65 but my wife had walked ahead of me and wanted to eat at the Thaiger Room.  I didn't want to upset her so we all sat down and ordered our meals.

When the food arrived I immediately noticed a 1-inch long cockroach running along the side on my youngest son's plate of green seafood curry.  My son brushed the live cockroach off his dish!  We were all kind of stunned.  The waitress saw what had happened and asked us if anything was wrong.  I told her we saw a cockroach running along the dish that was just served.  She asked if we wanted a replacement and made no apologizes for what had happened.

Strike three, that's the last time I've been to Thaiger Thai and will never go back.

Thaiger room still serves a good tasting food at a reasonable price but I had to deduct 4 stars for the lack of cleanliness in addition to the "cockroach factor."  I think it's time to call the health department on this place!  These people know they have a roach problem and don't seem motivated enough to improve things.

My quest for decent Thai food in Seattle continues. I'm not asking for Thailand quality Thai food but at least something that resembles authentic Thai food would be nice.

All the Thai restuarants I've had in Seattle, calling themselves authentic Thai food is like Panda Express calling them authentic Chinese food or Taco Bell saying they've got authentic Mexican food.

I ordered their Garlic Fried rice figuring you can't screw up on Fried rice, right? WRONG. I had soggy fried rice. Didn't anyone tell the chef that you can't make fried rice from soggy hot rice? My GF had the phad thai which tasted like sugar noodles.

I would give this place 1/2 star for their food and 1/2 star for their service.

I brought my leftovers back for my dog and even she didn't like it, and she licks her own butt!!

While it has gotten some pretty bad reviews for service and food, I think Thaiger room is actually quite delicious with good service. There are a TON of thai places to choose from on the ave, but I always go here. The take-out and delivery is also super convenient; I often call when I get out of class and the food is ready by the time I get there to take it home.

I'm sure there is better thai food out there, but for something quick and satisfying, nothing beats the Thaiger room.

Correction: I go here only when Appethai is closed, and only because Thai 65 is even worse.

If you choose to keep a restaurant open on New Year's Day, expect it to be hectic. That's no excuse for the terrible service. First, we're seated at a table so wobbly our drinks would have fallen off. Then, we're not told that several dishes are unavailable until we order them. Better yet, our check arrives less than five minutes after our entrees -- sure makes the customer feel welcome and not hurried at all. After we're finally done eating, the waitress ignores our table before finally taking our payment and bringing a box -- only for me. I seldom advocate leaving a bad tip, but that instance as worth it (and in that instance, I include the indigestion that lingered all night).

Ah yes, the infamous Thaiger Room. Everyone has an opinion on this place. People either really love it or really hate it. I've been coming here for over a year and I'm a big fan.
First off their spicy star rating system is off. I've gotten one star entrees that were spicier than 4 star entrees, no exaggeration. Also the place could be cleaner.
Why do I love this place then? Well after coming here off and on for over a year I had a revelation. The Thaiger Room isn't really a restaurant, its a diner. It even has a bar stool section. If you like the atmosphere of greasy diners that serve great burgers and fries for less than ten dollars then the Thaiger Room is for you since you can get great greasy thai food for less than ten dollars. If you want to have a nice sit down meal at a restaurant than this place isn't for you.

Their Thai-ger  Noodles are so good! One of few Thai restaurants that won't make you order rice if you order curry or a noodle dish, because most dishes come with side of rice.

The prices are also comparably cheaper than ever thai place I've been to in the Tacoma area.

The downsides are you feel crammed, especially when they are busy and their service is less than desirable.

Great yellow curry chicken, fast service, generous portions. So far, the best Thai curry I keep wanting to go back to since moving here in May. My bf digs their Thai iced tea and phad see ew (?)

First time I went, I got medium spicy and it was just right. Next few times, it was a bit weak on the spicy. Now I get hot and it's perfect. Great food!

The quality of food here is perfectly acceptable, very good in parts. The service is prompt and attentive, if unfeeling. Atmosphere is spartan, but the value is excellent. An open kitchen is reassuring. I would find little to complain about, if not for a minor detail - a well camouflaged (but not well enough!) cockroach hiding between the cracks of their exposed brick wall. Also, the vents are moldy.

I find myself going back here A LOT.  The location is ideal, they are cheap, and everything I've ever ordered I could not stop eating until there was not a grain of rice left on the plate.  They're very quick which is rad if you're a college student trying to get in and out of there quick in-between classes.  The flavoring is right on...very garlic-y and basil-y and the sauces are unique.
Recommendations:
-Vegetarian platter thing...not sure if this is only a lunchtime thing but very tasty and cheap and a lot of food.  One time I ordered it the phad thai noodles weren't cooked enough and were too chewy for my liking.  It was just a one-time thing though.
-They have this eggplant tofu basil something or other that I would swim in.  OH man, so good.
-the side salad.  I know it sounds strange but it is REALLY good.
-any of the fried rices.  They're all good and very well seasoned.

When I first started going to this place my freshman year at UW (5 years ago) it didn't seem so bad. Plus I was a broke student in debt so I ate on the ave alot because it was cheap. This place is dark and looks broke down. The food was ok, and I liked the combo they offered but then it went downhill after the next couple visits. Some of the waiters are horrible and service can be slow, there's this one guy that I think runs the place and he is ESPECIALLY rude. He doesn't seem apologetic for mistakes he makes and doesn't want to take responsibility for it! Plus on several occasions he reminded us to leave a tip. He asked once when he gave us our check, then a 2nd time when we paid! Maybe if his service wasn't so horrible people would want to leave decent tips and he wouldn't have to ask for it. I recommend Thai Thom if you have time or Thai 65 down the street which is cleaner, roomier, and service is a little better. I will not be coming here again though. Thank god I didn't have any encounters with roaches like other yelpers have mentioned, but that should be reason enough not to eat here!

5 Stars worth of ANGER!!  I just returned to Thaiger Room to give it another chance,,,regret it from first sight and first bite.  Do not let the new late hours tempt you-cash only will give you a hint of the lack of service you'll receive, but the same arrogant dude standing by the register/next to Snapple cooler counting the cash.  Still remains is the sole cook ,slaving away.
Fast forward to my to go order...thaiger noodles with beef.  Every slice of beef was TOUGH and CHEWY(2 min. to chew, and still i hesitated to swallow for fear of choking)  The spice level of 3 was the only thing that came out right.  The to-go box collapsed within itself b/c the slop was sooo mushy. I am going to send $7.00 back to the restaurant; pay them for not cooking for me ever again!  Mr. Spikey Hair, I'll open the door for you b/c I have to take a smoke break,  I will have another $7.00 in the envelope in hopes that you will give it to the young lady who had cooked feverishly as I awaited for my slop to-go.  BTW, Little Thai is Excellent!

The food here is pretty damn good....but....like the rest of the reviews, I agree - service can be slow and ambience is pretty dark and stuffy.
I love the combo - your choice of meat or tofu in a red curry (kind of overwhelmed with bamboo shoots), phad thai, grilled chicken over salad and rice for about $9.

Little did I know - No lunch menu!!! So if you're looking for cheap lunch, you won't find it here.

If you're on this city block and want Thai, this is a pretty good bet - hands down over Thai 65 and all those other places down the street.

But if you don't mind walking up the Ave a bit (North to 47th) and waiting and sitting in a matchbox of a room - go to Thai Tom.

I really like Thaiger Room. They always have well-made food (a bit greasy, but hey...it's the ave), quick service, and a great combo offer. I'm sure there is a fair amount of naysayers, but I've never had too bad of an experience at Thaiger room.

Food: Above average for the ave. A bit greasy. The garlic fried rice is amazing; the pad thai is good;  the curry is mediocre; the combo is pretty awesome.

Service: Below average, but hey, so is everyone else.

Ambiance: Small, dingy, smelly, oily. No, it's not the most romantic place.

Price: Good for the quantity. I love the combo - $8.50ish for sweet fried chicken, pad thai, curry, and bit of salad. Mmm.

Good for a quick take-out dinner when you're too lazy to cook after midterms.

I was craving Thai but far too lazy to actually get up and get it, so I decided to try Thai-ger. Excellent choice.

Delivery came 10 minutes ahead of the projected window, and the driver was very nice, even running back to his car for a new menu after taking ours (which had our $5 coupon printed on it).

We ordered: crab wontons, chicken satay, spring rolls, chicken fried rice, and tofu curry.

The appetizers were all delicious. I've had plenty of "okay" Thai in Seattle but this chicken satay is craveable. The spring rolls were exactly the right amount of greasy.

Normally when I get tofu red curry takeout it's a big plastic vat with a couple chunks of tofu thrown in, and a carton of white rice on the side. Not here - the curry and rice were in the same container (half on one side, half on the other) and there was enough tofu to have a piece with every single bite until it was gone. Dee-lish.

I've found my new favorite Thai delivery :)

My first experience with the Thaiger Room was a good one. I had delivery with my roommate. We were happy they delivered to our place as it probably pushes the boundaries of their delivery area. Regardless it was pretty fast. Their pad thai and pad see yew (I think that was it) were really good and the peanut sauce that I ordered extra was awesome. There food was better than a lot of thai places I've tried. I was a little confused as to how our order that should have been about $16 came up to $20 but I have to fault myself for not caring enough to ask about it. For take out/delivery, I think I found my place.

Pretty decent, service is awful.  Probably should be 3.5 stars.
Server once said he had to go make water and it took him 20 minutes to bring it back.  Always joke about "making water" now, thank you Thaiger Hut.
