Nice atmosphere, clean restaurant, attentive service (our water glasses never got less than half full and as a manager of a busy restaurant I really appreciate that).

Sushi: AWESOME! We were visiting from Santa Barbara, California where good sushi is a staple. We were a little worried about the freshness and quality but these guys did not disappoint! The fish was sweet and light, no flavors were out of place. Great presentation and a good of variety of sushi and rolls.

Salmon nigiri, I saw how good the salmon looked on someone else's table and had to get it, it was practically glowing. "Name That Tune" roll, on special, had white Tuna on top (awesome), tempura shrimp, wasabi cream, red tobiko, delicious. Spicy yellowtail hand roll, their spicy sauce inside was not mayo based, it looked like a garlic chili paste and had a slightly sweet/orangey taste, nice touch!

My wife had a Thai dish, Pad-See-U with beef, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Egg noodles cooked just right, just enough sauce and tender beef.

Our friends had a few rolls that looked fantastic, great presentations and they cleaned their plates so I assume they were as tasty as mine. Tempura shrimp roll, one of their deep fried rolls (in tempura) and a red dragon roll (?), all enjoyed.

Highly recommend this place and it's in a cute neighborhood (old town Marietta?).

So we ended up coming here with friends after finding out our original destination (Kiosco) was closed due to a fire. Knew nothing of the place other than it had good ratings on Yelp, and served a mix of Thai and sushi ... these mixed-cuisine places can be pretty hit or miss (leaning more towards miss), but we were hungry and out of ideas.

Needless to say, I'm pretty happy we ended up here! For a place that specializes in two (rather distinct) cuisines, they handle both quite excellently! Three of us ordered Thai dishes, and my wife ordered a bunch of sashimi and nigiri. Starting with the sushi, the sashimi pieces were large, fresh, and nicely chilled. My wife was originally hesitant to order sushi because of freshness, but Thaicoon did not disappoint. Excluding the highest-end places like Hayakawa, it's among the best sashimi you'll be able to get, especially for the price.

The rest of us had Thai dishes, mostly noodle dishes. I had my favorite pad see-u, and our friends ordered the pad kee mao and pad thai. All were excellent! I had never had pad kee mao before, but I really enjoyed it and the basil gave it such a nice kick. It wasn't the best Thai food I've had - Siam Square still owns that title in my book - but it was up there!

As of right now, this is probably my favorite place to get sushi (and we've been back since our initial visit to solidify these feelings) - not only is the sushi fresh and top-notch, but because they also offer some great Thai dishes as well, I can always find something to eat regardless of what I'm in the mood for!

This restaurant is located near North Druid Hills, and it offers a mix of Japanese and Thai cuisine. The restaurant employees are attentive and helpful. Also, the restaurant can accommodate large parties, and it is a clean restaurant.

On Monday and Tuesday nights, the restaurant offers great deals on sushi rolls and sashimi. It makes an ideal experience for the guests for both Japanese and Thai cuisine.

The sushi and sashimi is not the best quality where it is out of the world experience, but it is good for its price. The sashimi actually tastes pretty fresh, and its texture is very soft. The salmon pieces contain enough fat to provide that buttery or melt in the mouth experience. Additionally, the sashimi platter is only 6 dollars on Monday and Tuesday nights. Other items are on the menu for sushi deals are good and worth the try. The super crunchy roll is well made with a lot of panko bread crumbs. The rolls here are a bit Americanized, so do not expect a very authentic Japanese experience. Other rolls, I feel they are shoot or miss. Sometimes, the rolls are really good, and some are just not Japanese after a while. One of rolls has cheese, fish, and then it's fried. Pretty sure, at that point, it's not Japanese even if it has rice. Overall most importantly, the sushi and sashimi are about a dollar or 50 cents per piece. So, Japanese food experience is not all that bad as long as you know what you like and what to pick.

The Thai cuisine is also shoot or miss. The Pad Thai is very blend and includes only 2 or 3 shrimps. There is no flavor, and it's pretty much just noodles in a light brown sauce with peanut crumbs and meat. Honestly, it's really hard to mess up Pad Thai, but somehow, this restaurant has found a way. Maybe it's because the employees are Vietnamese and do not have a good concept of Pad Thai. The portion is at least decent, but that's the only good positive thing I can say about it.

The Red Snapper in three sauces is a good dish. The fish is very big, and it is cooked very well. The fish is not dry, and the sauces are a good blend with each other. You can other spices to it if you like, but overall, it's not necessary. It's a decent size fish to feed two people.

Cashew Chicken/Beef is a good dish to order here. I particularly like dishes with some nuts in them, and this dish is seasoned well. The sauce is very light, but at the same time, it offers a good bold flavor. I like to mix it with rice, and all the ingredients are freshly put together. The portion is not big as the Red Snapper, but it is adequate to make one person full. The chicken or beef does not taste old nor do they have that old smell. So, at least I know that the restaurant is not serving old meat to me. I suggest getting chicken over beef because the chicken is able to retain the sauces better than the beef.

Pad Prik is also a good dish to order. It is similar to the Cashew Chicken or Beef, but with a bit more vegetable, and the sauce is slightly different. It is also a good dish to order if you don't want cashew nuts.

The restaurant a good list of Japanese alcohol, and I think they are overpriced. I think I feel this way about all the restaurants with alcohol just cause I can get a bottle for  the price at a liquor store.

Overall, this is a good place to go when you're around the area during Monday and Tuesday nights. A lot of my friends and I enjoy going here for some good priced food and the atmosphere. It is not a fancy place, and the interior design is similar to Thai of Norcross. If you have a hot date from match dot com, then you can take her here. I am sure your date will like the place because it offers both cooked and raw food here.

I like Thaicoon. I tend to stick with the Japanese items, which are rarely authentic but always pretty high quality.

The spring rolls are tasty, and I've heard rave reviews about many of their other items from friends.

I should note that I've never actually gone in to eat. I work on the square and just have someone pick up lunch or drop by, and it's always really dark for some reason. There could be a petting zoo with table dancers back there for all I know.

Came here once for lunch on a weekday. Clientele that day mainly consisted of people in business suits on their lunch break. The atmosphere is actually really nice inside. It looks like they put in a lot of money and effort to set the ambiance for the customers.

The menu is perfectly split into Japanese and Thai cuisine. I ordered the sushi lunch combo, while he ordered the chicken teriyaki lunch combo plate. We both had a choice of miso soup or coconut soup beforehand. The sushi was pretty good and decently fresh. His teriyaki combo was large and filling. Price is pretty decent, but I would probably prefer to come for lunch prices over dinner. Our server was super nice and polite.

I have been here twice, both times on Mondays for $1 sushi rolls.  The restaurant is decorated beautifully and the service is always awesome.  The sushi is decent, but not outstanding.  Being in Marietta Square, I guess it's good for the area.  I don't know, but I feel like they offer strange combinations in their rolls.  My favorite is the fried (oh yeah) Japanese bagel roll.

I have eaten a lot of good sushi in my life. I love PanAsian cuisine and this place is pretty respectable/acceptable. I'd eat here again.

I had the Thai Toast, it was pretty good, I liked the cucumber sauce/dip.

The sushi was all fresh and delicious. I was a little underwhelmed by the sashimi - tuna honestly never tastes right in this area, but I am very spoiled in this. The specialty roles satisfied by Americanized tastebuds. The Hurricane role made me think of bacon. I was amused by this.

I enjoyed sitting by the window and watching the trains go by. Even busy its a good place to catch up and socialize. Great Marietta Square dining.

It's really a rare combination of circumstances when a restaurant can please its patrons with not only the quality of their dishes, but with attentive, friendly service and beautiful decor.  Thaicoon is among these rarities.

My first experience here was upon my first night - actually within my first hour - of moving to the area.  After a long and arduous thirteen hour drive from the northeast, I peeled myself out of my over-packed car and simultaneously threw my arms around my now live-in boyfriend and murmured, "Feed meeeeeee."  Well, it was either corn flakes or going out to eat.  So, off to Marietta Square we went.

Thaicoon delivered in taste and accommodation in a way that made my hungry belly swoon.  I had the Choo Chee Salmon, which was really very good.  The salmon was cooked perfectly and sat in a frothy blend of spiced coconut milk sauce with mixed vegetables.  With so many flavor and texture components on the plate, I almost expected that some of them would begin combating each other and become mottled, but that wasn't the case at all.  I could taste each individual flavor in the sauce, loved the amount of spice, and the vegetables were all cooked so that they added just the right amount of sweetness and crispness to the sauce, but that they still stood on their own and kept their own flavor.

Our server was very helpful and quick, and was always ready to take our next drink order!  I was overall very happy with my experience here, and have since gone back for a weekday lunch special of sushi, which was very affordable, considering it had some of the freshest sushi grade fish I've eaten since moving here.  I'll definitely be going back for more!

    "RIP OFF ALERT"

I like the food here but I must tell you all that I just noticed on my bank statement that I have been charged more money then what my bill was while eating here over the weekend. This happened once before with this establishment and I let it go because I thought it was an honest mistake. I often leave a 20% tip and on top of that and my bill they added $4 more. I'm looking at my receipt as I'm looking at my bank statement and they do not match and this is the second time it happened to me here. Be careful when using plastic if you decide to eat at Thaicoon.

The only drawback of the place is that it is nearly impossible to find, if you don't know where it is.  The signage is not very obvious.

And since it's on the square, parking is extremely scarce, especially on a Friday night, which is when I went there with my friend.  I was circling the square for about 15 minutes before finding a spot.

Food was delicious. I had the Coconut soup and I really like the fact that it had whole mushrooms in it.  It was spicy, but not too spicy like at some Thai place.

Sushi was decent, not the best I've ever had, but definitely very good for the price.

You know, I live within walking distance from the Thaicoon near Emory, but I've never been. Go figure I'd end up at this one first.

Despite a sort of drab exterior, the interior is really quite pleasant -- somewhat dimly lit, relaxing, and clean. The wait staff wasn't the very best I've had, but they get the job done.

As far as the food goes, it's best to realize that you're just a block off of Marietta Square. Adjust your expectations accordingly. I showed up for lunch, where they have a number of Thai and Japanese specials available daily (see their website for the menu). I went with the sushi and sashimi special ($9.95). It was all right. The fish wasn't particularly amazing, but nor was anything particularly off about my experience.

I'd only come here for lunch, though. While the food's not too bad,  considering the dinner prices, I feel like there are better deals to be had elsewhere. Lunch special prices are still a little higher than what you could get somewhere else, but considering what an average meal on the Square will run you, I'm not complaining.

Very tasty Thai food. I began with Edamame, which was tasty - but pretty tough to screw up. I tried the Drunken Noodles with chicken for dinner. It was loaded with veggies, it would probably take me less time to mention which veggies were NOT in the dish. There were green beans, zucchini, bell peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, and more. The chicken was a bit tough, but the flavor had a nice balance of heat.
I had carryout so I can't really comment too much on the restaurant, but it looked nice from the front desk.

So delicious!  Came here with a few friends on friday night and was pleasently suprised.  The outside of the building is very understated but when you walk inside you are suprised to find a large well lit dining room.  We ordered 3 rolls and this amazing spicy coconut soup(I know I should know the name but I cant remember) all were wonderful.  Our service was prompt and polite.  Cant wait to go back!

I have to give this place *5 stars*...  Not for it's "hottness" or "spicyness"...  But, it consistantly delivers!

There is better sushi in Atlanta.  No doubt about it.  But, Thaicoon is my usual staple for sushi, especially if you are near Marietta.  This place keeps me coming back time and time again.  It's consistantly good EVERY time, and the pricing is very reasonable (especially on Monday and Tuesdays).

Conveniently located in historic Marietta Square, and the interior decor is relaxing and clean.

If you aren't in the mood for sushi, thier Thai food selections are excellent (as well as delicuous).  Also ask them to reccomend a sake to go with your sushi.  They have quite a selection!

"$1 Mon and Tues sushi rolls" was what I heard through the grapevine so I had to check it out.

I had mixed expectations going there. The reviews on yelp were high (but maybe it was mostly for the thai food?), but I've had cheap sushi before and it always turned out to be yucky.

And yucky was what it was. Salmon tasted artificial and low grade. My roommate describe the sushi as "it tasted like a toy" whatever that means... I got roll that would be called Philadelphia roll at other places -salmon, cream cheese, scallions. There was so little salmon and scallion in there that all you really tasted was rice and cream cheese. My roommate got the green tea creme brulee which I thought tasted like green tea play-doh with a little sugar and pasty consistency.

They do get a brownie point for having white (natural) ginger. Typically used at Japanese restaurants that know what they're doing since the pink stuff that you usually find is colored and sweetened.

I have it 2 stars instead of 1 because I understand that you pay for what you get and if your goal is to eat sushi, not care how it tastes and not pay very much for it then you'll accomplish it here. As for me, I'll probably never come back, not even to try the Thai. I'm a MF Sushi girl at heart and I feel like eating sushi and not paying MF prices, I'll go to Whole Foods and get their sushi (which is consistently better than 90% of sushi restaurants in GA, including Ru San's) It's like not caring to go back to a all you can eat steakhouse, where the steak tastes like rubber. Just not worth it.

The service was okay, and the place was clean. My friend did notice that they had a 86 health inspection rating.

Note: Nigiri was $1 but you only get one piece (as opposed to the typical 2 piece in a order). Sushi rolls were $2 but you only get 4 pieces (as opposed to the typical 6-8).

There are better sushi places but this place does what they do well. Their lobster roll is to die for, its my favorite dish in the place.  We go here with my meetup group a few times a year and it is always well received. The servers can be a little slow every so often but the food makes up for it.

It is located off the Marietta Square and its a quaint little area that is fun to explore, especially on a nice spring evening.  After dinner you can go across the street and visit the coffee shop which usually has pretty good coffee.

The Pepper Steak was excellent, lots of meat and vegetables. Also, I love sticky rice; when eating with chopsticks sticky rice is a must. (I'm picky, so sue me. :P)

We all had different things and everyone loved their meals. All the food looked and smelled good.

Even the occasional train passing wasn't so bad.

My only qualm, $1.50 for an 8oz. bottle of Coke is a COMPLETE ripoff. No refills, just one little dinky bottle. Never going to make that mistake again. (My apologies Mr.Waiter I only saw twice, but you get no tip cause your owners are stingy with the sugar water.)

Overall, I would say that I enjoy Thaicoon, and have had many good meals here. Both their sushi, and their Thai dishes are always well prepared, and presented nicely.
I have two items that I think need some improvement. One is how they handle customers who come in closer to closing. We arrived 30 - 40 minutes before they closed. We asked if it was too late, and they of course said, absolutely not and quickly showed us to a table. I've worked in the restaurant business, in higher end restaurants, and know full well that towards the end of the evening the staff is tired and looking forward to closing and going home. However, they are the ones who chose to work in this type of business, so they should be prepared to accept the fact that some customers will come in closer to closing, and not necessarily be ready to leave within 10 or 15 minutes after closing.
So back to my point. We arrived, were seated, and ordered. We were a party of four, we were hungry, and we ordered quite a bit of sushi... all of which was fresh and quite good. Our bill, for the four of us, was approximately $120.00. So, not an inexpensive dinner.
Precisely at closing time, everyone went into high gear breaking down the restaurant, including vacum cleaners, HEAVY cleaning chemicals which permeated the dining room, and within 20 - 30 minutes after closing they were turning off lights and some of the staff were sitting around at tables, in their t-shirts (having taken off their formal working shirts), and staring at us. We felt VERY uncomfortable, and made preparations to leave even though we were not done with our dinner.
I spoke to the manager as we were leaving stating that I certainly do NOT appreciate being rushed out of a restaurant... especially one where I have just spent over $120.00 on dinner. Their ONLY comment was, I'm sorry... as they continued to run my credit card for the full amount of the meal.
They stay open later than most restaurants. If you do choose to go in later in the evening, be prepared to be "hurried" out of there.

My second point, being much more of an opinion rather than any kind of a complaint, is the dishware they use. They charge upper prices for their food... and yes, the dining room is very nice and comfortable. However, the dishware they use is basically inexpensive plastic dishes, rather than nice, cultrally oriented, dishware. I will say that I have noticed an improvement in this respect, so perhaps they are updating... but I am still seeing the plastic dishes being used.

Overall, a really nice place, with well above average food, and the wait staff is always VERY polite. (just as long as you are out of there prior to the closing hour of that particular evening).

I've been here a few times with different people. Enjoyed the food each time. Both Thai and Japanese items were good - sushi was fresh each time. Very fast service and courteous staff. Both lunch and dinner time were busy on few different days that I was there. Fried banana with ice cream is a must try...be prepared to share though.

Like many other Thai and Chinese restaurants, this place is dimly lit as well. If you have bat's eyes to read the menu, especially for dinner, you'll be good. Other than that, have a taste bud for Thai and looking for a quick bite? Head to Thaicoon!

Parking tip: public parking is just diagonally across from the restaurant, on the other side of the railroad (heading towards N Marietta Parkway - Mill St).

when i first walked into this restaurant, i had to tell my friend that i am getting off the phone, cause i smelled thai food... i have been going through thai and sushi withdrawals for the last week and a half.  IT wasn't pretty.  this is pretty much off the beaten path across from the train tracks.

thank god we were at the restaurant. i was about to expire from walking around "marietta square"... i liked the town... but i was just starving.

we started off with eskimo shrimp with sweet ginger sauce and spicy octopus (loved it)...the entrees came with pad thai and thaicoon fried rice (this is pretty - it came in a pineapple!!) The arrangement, the ambiance, the service... one of the best. as for the pai thai. it didnt' hit the spot as i expect, which i was a bit disappointed.

by the way....this place needs more vents.

Classic Thai/Japanese menu: lots to choose from and hard to make a decision. The Rainbow sushi plate was incredible (cream cheese and eel base); Mom had the clay pot which was crammed with scallops, calamari, lobster, mussels, and salmon; Eric had the Pad Kee Mao was which spicy and had an interesting squash addition; and Dad had the Pad Prik, which, despite the request for something really spicy, was not to his level of desired spice. The lunch special came with a coconut, chicken, and mushroom soup that is hands down one of the best soups I've ever had.

It's all in the details: the toilet paper holder in the women's room is very far away from the toilet itself. Just forewarning all you women out there.

I don't like the food here. Their sushi is really quite horrible. I've had worse, but not in Marietta.  Unlike Lily, I went on a Saturday and paid full price for bad sushi. No reason to waste money on bad food in the Square where there's so many good restaurants.

But if you want good & cheap sushi, go to Kuroshio or Ru Sans. If you want good & cheap Thai, go to Bangkok Cabin or Penang.

Undoubtedly the best sushi place in the square. But that's because it's the only sushi place on the square! And rightfully so -- no one else would survive being Thaicoon's competition!

Before I dish about the succulent sush - I must promote the features. The restaurant is literally feet from the train track - so if you sit on the left side of the restaurant, you will feel the rush of each train. If you're one for that kind of stuff, it may be cool to watch it go by. If not, I suggest you grab a seat on the other side. On a Friday night, it was relatively quiet until a couple large groups came in. There is a sushi bar, but we elected to sit at a table. Our waiter was very good and spoke very good English. I got hamachi (yellow tail) nigiri...which I thought was overpriced at almost $3 per piece...but was totally worth-it. It was wonderful! My boyfriend got the cucumber-rolled tuna and salmon roll. I didn't try it because it was gone in about eight seconds, but it did get rave reviews from a serious sushi connoisseur. I followed the hamachi with the fried rice with chicken. Yum! And he got some noodley shrimp and chicken plate. I was super glad that I had some fried rice left over and was able to heat it up for lunch the next day. It was still just as good; as I'm sure Thaicoon will be just as good the next time we go...which will be very soon!

Sushi was better than thai, I thought. Sushi was delicious and unique.

Love it! Have loved everything I tried there. Highly recommend the lobster rolls. The service is always great and there's rarely a long wait.

Consistently good food...we typically do takeout so I cannot comment on the service. Friendly staff and good sushi with a few excellent thai dishes that keep us coming back.

My initial reaction to this place was that the service was slow, but it was a good place to catch up with an old friend (which is what I was doing). The prices were good for sushi and the beer menu had all of my favorite beer brewers. However, my impression of this place slid lower and lower as the evening went on. Let me tell you what's wrong with this place:
    1) The beer list is relatively short, but they have great beers on it. Unfortunately, they didn't have the beer I ordered and it took them 15 minutes to determine that.
    2) It took another 15 minutes after we received our beers to get our food. And like Birttany said, my friend's came out 5 minutes after mine. It's sushi for goodness sake!
    3) The food tasted good at the time and had it ended there, I would have given the restaurant 3 stars. I still need to consult with my friend, but my stomach hated me the next two days for eating that meal.

Sorry Thaicoon. Cute name, but not good enough to go back for sushi.
