I am going to tell you the truth! I do not even know how I ended up here one night. I was in Winchester on other business and for some odd reason I ended up on the walking mall and I just decided to walk in here. I am so glad that I did. I sat down and reached for my purse to realize that I forgot my wallet and had no credit card. I was alone and hungry, so I looked in my purse and found $7 even. I looked through the menu and found what looked like yummy springs rolls. I ordered 4 of them and it came with this sauce (kind of on the cool side temperature wise) but very good none the less. Once I ate the spring rolls I was so happy because they were SO good.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is kind of dark and closed in. I sat at the bar and it was clean and well maintained. I was looking at the alcohol they had and it was a vast amount. All in all though I had little money on me I enjoyed what I could for less than $7.
Will definitely be visiting again! -

My mom and I went here for lunch today, we ordered some summer rolls which were okay although I'm not a fan of the mint/licorice flavor ingredient in it and found it odd that there 6 summer rolls really seemed like 1 roll cut into 6 pieces. The summer rolls were served with a peanut sauce which was more like a duck sauce with chopped peanuts on top.
The edamame were good as was the wasabi shumai type thing my mom got. The seaweed salad with oyster sauce we were not a fan of. The massa chicken I got was pretty good, just wish the portions were bigger and maybe a lil bit of spice to it wouldve been nice, it came with a cup of white rice. The deep fried calamari had a nice flavor but was over cooked, thus chewy as rubber.
The servers were very attentive and we could've done without there constant staring from both sides of our booth by them. The outside look of the place does not seem cohessive with how the inside looks. This is definitely not the best Thai food I have had and having to pay for parking and do a bit of walking to reach the place seem a bit unappealing to me although this area does have a bit of that old town charm to it. Overall I probably wouldn't recommend this place to people really, its just ok. -

The food was fine...I wouldn't crave it. This is pretty good food.
But, it came out hot, but then she leaves it at the end of the table??? What happenef to proper serving? My wine and water are on my left???
I know in your best restaurants this is done, and it costs nothing.
If any server bring me styrofoam for my leftovers, and I have to scrape my food into it, to then have a dirty dish in front of me, my tip goes down to 18 %.
The staff seems sweet, but so phony.
Can they owners/ staff leave their kids at home? -

Can't speak for the food. The cockroach on my table pretty much ended the experience for me. The waitress was apologetic, however.
Note: We dined there on Friday, Oct 28 2011. I just realized today that I never finalized my 'draft' post. They may have taken care of the roach issue by now. -

What am I missing? Given the other Yelp 5-star reviews, I guess my expectations were mismanaged. The food at Thai Winchester was, as 3-stars on Yelp indicate, 'A-OK', but certainly not fantastic.
Now, like Mike T., I will give them credit for a good pad Thai, however, that is in comparison to some ketchup-laden messes I've had at other places. It was hardly transcendent.
One bright note was the Mekhong whiskey cocktail, made with lime juice, Cointreau and bitters. The complexity was unlike anything I've ever had. Would I want more than one? No. However, I'm grateful to have had the one.
If I were to go again, I would order the food spicier. The scale they use of 'American' vs. 'Mexican' vs. 'Thai' heat is a leans a bit to the lower side of the spectrum. For those of you who like spicy food, be forewarned and order as you would with designer shoes or clothes that run a bit small: One size up. -

Cute restaurant, cute area, great service, delicious food!
We started with the summer rolls, which were awesome...sweet and peanutty.
I had the cellophane noodle salad, and wish they could bottle the spicy lime vinagrette so I could have it all the time! It was great....crunchy, fresh, light but still really satisfying.
My husband had the vegetarian pad see ew and thought it was really tasty. I tasted it and he was right. :D The tofu was cooked perfectly, and the noodles were first rate.
Definitely recommend for really great thai food! -

By far the best thai food I've ever had. This meals have excellent presentation and huge portions, great, vast menu selection. Every time I stare at a pic I took in front of my meal I start to salivate and crave going back. This place means business when they note that a dish is spicy so be careful! I enjoyed sitting outside on the patio, nice location.

Pad Thai is my "go to" dish (probably because I'm uncultured), but it seems to be a good way to judge a kitchen.
This was the best Pad Thai I've had. Ever.
The staff was over-the-top polite (mean that in a good way).
Not a single complaint. If you're on the fence, just go here - you won't be sorry. -

I would have never expected to get Thai food this good in Winchester. And it's totally vegan-friendly. And any other dietary-whatever friendly.
They make every dish to order so you can tell them exactly what you want/need left out, how spicy you want it, etc. and they don't get annoyed! I actually felt bad for making so many requests that I guess it was obvious and the waitress reassured me that it was no problem and they can leave out anything you don't want! And the hotness scale is actually really cute. It starts at American Hot, then goes to Mexican Hot, then finally Thai Hot.
Every person working here came to our table to check on us at some point, asking us if we had any questions or needed anything, refilled our water frequently and every time with a smile and nice demeanor.
Here's what our party ordered:
Veggie Gyoza
Pad Phed Pha (thai hot!), vegetarian with tofu
Thai Fried Rice, vegetarian with no tofu and no egg
Thai Rama with chicken
Everyone at the table was incredibly satisfied with their meals. Two of us cleared our plates completely, and the servings are pretty big! The presentation of the meals is beautiful as well. Carved carrot flowers, baby corns arranged around the edge of the plate, etc.
The decor was very nice but still casual and we didn't feel out of place at all in our hoodies and jeans. And it was nice and warm in there despite it being 20 degrees out!
Oh, and I've been to Siam Classic in Manassas and I would definitely pick this place over that one. Much more comfortable environment, more ability to customize food, nicer staff who have a better grasp on the english language and therefore less chance of a misunderstanding about what's being ordered.
I also have to say the price is right on. Yes, they might seem a little high for Winchester when you glance at the menu, but you get a lot of food and it's absolutely delicious. I'll be back many many times.

After a few return visits, I can say the following items are awesome as well:
Drunken noodle, vegetarian
Banana in a blanket
sweet and sour, vegetarian with no tofu
and the food and service is still great when they are busy, but they seem to do less presentation stuff.Listed in: Vegan Friendly Winchester

Great food and the people are friendly. Everyone has a smile on their face and is happy to help you. What's neat is you can eat inside or outside.
I came here in March before I moved to VA and was pleasantly surprised. I tried the Pad Thai which I loved. The ratings are cute in how they rate the level of spicy. The Papaya Salad is a must try! -

As good as it gets in Winchester! Visiting my family from L.A. I wanted something other than Chick-fil-a, we popped into this small restaurant in the heart of old town for a wonderful father daughter lunch. The service was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable sharing random tid-bits of the culture. The food was standard dependable Thai with affordable prices. For Winchester this place is its a big win! Thank you for bringing some diversity and culture! Anytime I'm back in the area I'll definitely make it a point to stop in!

I love red curry, and Thai Winchester always distributes the right proportions of heat and sweet between the curry paste and coconut milk. Some places go way hot, while others use too much sweet.
They also have a beautiful presentation every time. I like when restaurant's take the time to make you feel special. -

I recently visited this wonderful restaurant while visiting my high school friends that I hadn't seen in 35 years! We met at Thai Winchester and the food was outstanding! My friend, Tish, knew the owner and they suggested a dumpling appetizer platter that was excellent! Wasabi dumplings! WOW......
We let them chose the main dishes and were happy we did! We feasted on 3 delicious selections that melted in our mouths! And then came dessert! Thai custard..........drizzled with honey!
What a special evening with special friends and a very special meal! Thanks Michael! I will be back!! -

Every bit as good as previous reviewers suggest. A low key, family friendly, good food experience. We came in here with 5 people on a business dinner, and everyone enjoyed every dish. One of our party is already plotting to drive 45 minutes here from his home so he can bring his wife.
Personally, I had green papaya salad, and then a spicy eggplant/chicken (special dish of the week), and really enjoyed both. I didn't pay the bill, but menu prices sure looked reasonable enough.

Although Winchester Thai has a decent dish or two, Burapa Thai is the better of the two in Winchester.
I found the food just a bit south of Thai authentic. A bit Americanized.... -

Maybe Im spoiled by Siam Classic in manassas, but... I thought that the food wasn't as good as the price, and while the location, the decor, and our servers were nice, I dunno... if I'm going to the foot mall, i'll be eating something else... and I LOVE thai food. =/
Its not bad, its just not amazing, and a little expensive for what you get... -

I was surprised to find great ethnic food during my short trip to VA. I ordered the Tom Yom Soup with shrimp and Drunken Noodles with seafood, and both were delicious. I liked the spiciness guide that went from "American Hot" to "Mexican Hot" to "Thai Hot," though having ordered the latter I think they still soften it down for us Americans.
For dessert we ordered some coconut ice cream, which was also great. It is slightly chunky which makes the texture a bit strange at first, but it tastes great. I'll be back if I ever find myself in Winchester for some reason. -

I love, love, love Thai Winchester!
After living in DC and having access to some great Thai food, I held off trying any of the ones in Winchester. A few months ago we had a craving one evening and ordered Thai Winchester for delivery.
The gentleman that answered the phone was so pleasant and fun to talk to and assured me that we would not be disappointed with the quality of food nor the portions and that if we were, to call him back and let him know and he'd let us try something else.
We ordered Summer Rolls, Spring Rolls and Pad Thai and fell in love at first bite. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. The Summer Rolls had fresh noodles, carrots, mint, etc...and the peanut dipping sauce was perfeclty peanutty.
There are other Thai restaurants in Winchester, but we've decided, why stray from perfection? Thai Winchester is amazing.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Oh FINALLY....
Great thai food in Winchester. Quickly has become a favorite. Service is quick and courteous.
My favorite way to test a Thai restaurant is by the Larb..a minced chicken salad with various herbs and spices. It was spot on and very comparable with those I have tried in the DC area. Very impressed.
Also tried the Thai sampler. Although a bit deep fried for my tastes, it was still very good. Take out the fried Tofu and it would be much better.
The Wasabi Dumplings...perfect.
The Lycheetini...how much fun is this? A pink martini with lychee juice and an honest-to-goodness lychee on a straw instead of the traditional olive. This set a positive tone to the whole meal...
For dessert? The deep fried banana with homemade coconut ice cream. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending...
Can't wait to go back but if I may add just one suggestion? Get RID of the damn flourescent lighting...it can take a restaurant ambiance from romantic Thai to high school cafeteria in a hurry.....Listed in: Funchester Dinner and Drinks

Finally! An excellent Thai meal in Winchester. After trying the other local Thai/Sushi establishment a couple times we had given up and made the trek back to Northern Virginia whenever we had a hankering for Thai. NO MORE! Now a quick trip to the lovely Winchester Old Town Walking Mall and sumptuous fare is spread before us!
My favorite Thai restaurant previously was Sakoontra in Fairfax. Thai Winchester easily compares and perhaps surpasses it. We'll give them a couple more tries before I proclaim that, but our first experience was absolutely great. So you can see what I'm comparing to, my other favorite Thai restaurants in NoVA are: Burapa Thai in Ashburn Village, Thai Palace in Chantilly, Para Thai in Falls Church, and Thai Pilin in Tysons Corner. I like Thai... I like good Thai. Thai Winchester is good Thai!
Everything we had tonight was excellent. I'll just list it all out. We both had a nice Jasmine Tea that was refreshed whenever we would want. She had Young Coconut Juice with slices of coconut in it (yummy and refreshing!), The Dumpling Combo (we'd probably just get the Wasabi Dumplings next time and the Gyoza... both were the best), Tom Yum/Lemon Grass Chicken Soup (in a very cool heated "bunt" pot like serving dish), she had Beef Red Curry and I had Squid only Pad Pik Sod (Thai Hot), and we finished up with home Coconut Ice Cream (WOW!), and Mango and Sticky Rice. We got an excellent sampling of everything and were thoroughly pleased with the meal!
The service was excellent and very attentive and interactive (exactly like we like). Observing them with other customers they seemed to tailor their service to suit that customer which speaks volumes to a staff's ability to make for the experience that a specific customer wants. Personally I love to hear from staff that love their food as much as I do and enjoy conversing about the hows and whys... I know others just like to eat and be left in peace... I think they'll be able to handle either customer just fine.
Can't wait to return! This is only the fourth 5 Star place I've rated to eat in Winchester. Thai Winchester is in great company as far as I'm concerned! I'm really glad they've opened up and hope Winchester can expand their pallet to try some excellent Thai!Listed in: Top Restaurants

Definitely the best Thai restaurant in the area. Wide range of dishes from all parts of Thailand, and they will even take requests if you know the Thai name of the dish you want. The staff is very knowledgeable about Thai food and Thai cooking, and can explain dishes in detail -- they're great with large parties of people, and they can even find things that picky kid eaters will like (they did a set of dumplings with mouse ears and lemon grass tails for one particularly grouchy kid that was brilliant).
The outside tables are great for warm evenings -- it's so much like Bangkok that all that's missing is taxi noise and a klong in the background.
They will make any dish with chicken/beef/seafood, and their pad thai is exactly what it should be: rich with veggies and noodles exactly done right. -

I've ordered take-out twice from this restaurant, and am very impressed! The other Thai restaurant in the area always frustrated with me their service, but this place is so different!
The employees are courteous and polite, not to mention that the food is wonderful. I plan to dine-in the next time I'm craving Thai food in Winchester.
I have ordered the Papaya salad, friend tofu, roasted duck curry, red chicken curry -- all were fantastic! -

The service was excellent, however, the food was horrid. If anyone thinks that this is good Thai food, they're on cr*ck. My meal was so bad that I had to sign up on Yelp and give my own review.
I live in Southern California and am in Winchester for a month. I was craving some type of Asian food and found Thai Winchester on the net. I saw the reviews (1st mistake) and decided to try it out. I ordered the Massaman curry with chicken because it sounded safe enough, with the usual yellow curry with potatoes, onions, and basil.
It was very bland and had more of a mint flavor. I've eaten at most of the Thai restaurants in Orange and Los Angeles County (arguably one of the largest Thai communities in the U.S.), so I believe I know what curry is supposed to taste like. Thai Winchester's curry was no where near. I probably would've been better off eating at the McDonald's across the street. -

I have been here a couple of times. The food is always full of flavor and the portions will require you to get a take home bag. The staff here are SO nice. My first visit here was on my birthday 2 years ago and it was fantastic. Their stuffed spring rolls are great, especially with the peanut sauce. My noodle pot was delicious and HUGE. Couldn't eat it all in one sitting.

It's all been said before, so I almost didn't write a review, but it was some of the best Thai food I've had. My wife says it is the best she has had. I liked the lunch menu, choose the style (from about 8 or so options), then what meat you want. I ordered garlic beef, and my wife had ginger duck. They both were very tasty, and the duck was cooked perfectly. The staff was great, very attentive and friendly. It's definitely a place we'd come back to if near by.

I was craving Thai so we gave this place a try based on reviews. It was good food. If you are expecting Chinese or a Thai knock off you will be happy. If you are a true Thai food lover you may be disappointed. I was first tipped off when we made our orders and I was never asked what level of heat I wanted. This is my favorite part about Thai because you can get daring with certain dishes. Everything was more on the sweet side and I had to use a lot of chili paste to heat it up. I ordered Tom Yum - which is my favorite. It had a good flavor, but was much sweeter than ones I have had in the past. The Beef Dish (Pad Prik Pod) that we got was very bland. The Pad Thai noodles were ok, but nothing amazing. I will say the dumpling appetizers were delicious and the service was great.

This place is ridiculously wonderful. I live in Northern Virginia, which has about 800 billion Thai restaurants, but when I want Thai food, I go visit Winchester. Really, this place is absolutely worth a try (or many tries!!)---it's some of the tastiest Thai food I've ever had. Hit them up for Thai Iced Coffee or Tea, as well, you won't regret it.

i'm so glad that winchester has such a good thai restaurant. i moved to virginia from los angeles to attend pharmacy school, and i thought that i would be deprived of my mom's delicious thai food but thai winchester fills that void for me. however, i don't think that thai winchester has as much variety as other thai restaurants that i've been to, but that is expected since not very many thai people are there to actually order rare dishes. still, thai winchester does the best it can, and i find myself going there every month or so to get my fill of thai food.
the lunch specials are quite tasty and decently priced. although pad thai is probably the most popular thai dish, i think thai winchester makes one of the best pad thai's that i have ever had. the curry dishes are pretty good too! -

Thai Winchester is outstanding, it would be outstanding if it were in NYC, DC or L.A. Just read the reviews posted by others. I had the PAD PHED PHA and my wife had the KRA POW GAI SUB. Both were WOW! dishes. The Wasabi Dumplings were just as good as was the Coconut Ice Cream. Priced very fairly. We had a great meal. It was voted best restaurant in Winchester, easy to see why.

We recently moved to the area from NoVA and I was craving good Thai food. We discovered Thai Winchester and decided to give it a try. Food is delicious and always consistent. Great view of the pedestrian mall and outdoor seating in the spring/summer. I love the Cashew Chicken and Larb Gai. The service is always incredibly friendly. If you love Thai food, give Thai Winchester a try!

Sat outside and enjoyed a great atmosphere. Had Panang cury and it was excelent! The staff was very friendly and eager to please. It is rare to eat out and have wait staff that enjoys doing what they do and it shows in the service and the food.
