Nothing really stands out about the place but the food is excellent.  My friend orders 11 everytime we go there.  That said, we have a theory that the number isn't really a scale from 1 to 10 but rather the number of shakes of hot sauce / peppers that they put into your dish.  I usually get a 5 or 6 and its enough to make my eyes water / nose run so I can't even imagine 11.

Pretty darn happy with Thai Taste.

After reading the other reviews, I was afraid that this place was going to use spicy heat in lieu of other flavors, and that by ordering things mild they'd be bland.  I was wrong.

As an owner of a "gringo mouth", I ordered my dishes from a scale of 1-3 in heat.  They did a great job in heeding my wussy requests.

As per my usual, I ordered a bunch of things to try, knowing I'd have lunch for tomorrow.

Started off with their fresh spring rolls: as the name suggests, these are not fried.  They're filled with tofu, egg (kinda like tamago), cukes and bean sprouts, served with a nice sweet and sour dipping sauce.  My only complaint is that dipping the roll in the super-thick sauce caused the roll to explode.  But I somehow managed to pick of the pieces of my shattered life and move on.

Next I tried the yum nua (beef salad), which featured divine slices of tender beef, and the "yum" flavor I crave from a thai place; a nice balance of heat, lime, sweetness and salt.  Fresh veggies and herbs, too.  This failed to suck.  (Note to self: I could have ordered this a little spicier.)

Next, the litmus of all litmus tests: the tom kha gai... KICK ASS.  Fresh veggies, a wonderfully balanced broth, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, good chicken... whee!  I ordered this at a level 3, and it is perfect for me.

Next on the docket was the chicken pad thai:  Woot!  Absolutely wonderful.  Fresh, yummy, great, not too fishy on the fish sauce.  Rock out.

Last but not least was sweet sticky rice for dessert.  Tasty-good, nice texture... I would have liked a teeeeny bit more coconut cream on top, but hey, I'm still thrilled.

To top off this meal: The price for all of this food was less than $30, and the guy who took my order and worked the cashier was super-cool (and easy on the eyes... just sayin'.)

Next time I'm in town, I will definitely order take-out from here again.

One of the best thai restaurants I've been to so far in San Antonio.  Went there the other day with a bunch of friends and everyone enjoyed their meal, not a single complaint among us.  Everything was really fresh and tasted pretty authentic.  On the spiciness scale, 5 really isn't that spicy.  Probably about a 7 or 8 is decently good.

I like Thai Taste. There are certainly about a million and one Thai restaurants (oddly) in my part of San Antonio, but Thai Taste was my first and it remains one of my favorites. Their lunch specials are great - super affordable and enough food to make you happy, but not so much that you're snoozin' on your desk (or in your lab or over your patient) by 2 in the afternoon.

Their food comes in a range of spiciness. If you like spicy, go for the 7. If you like EN FREAKIN' FUEGO, try the 9. The 10 is just silly - your eyeballs will burn out.

If you have gringo mouth, order the 1 or the 2...but you don't know what you're missing.

Been here twice in the last week for lunch. Service is speedy and though the lunch choices are somewhat limited, they are cheap ($5-6) and filling. The tofu is done to a perfect consistency for me, slightly crispy on the sides and not mushy in the middle. The sauces are very interesting and like Carol L. said, it's not your typical Americanized thai. I have only ever eaten at one other place (in another state) that makes it like they do and it's refreshingly different.

When you order you specify how spicy you want your food, scale of 1-10. I can handle hot stuff but when I ordered at a 6, it was pretty painful by the time I finished my meal. I still enjoyed it though, and would like to go back and see what the selection is like for dinner.

Being Thai, I have full confidence to say that this place has the most authentic thai food I have ever had in North America, and that's saying a lot since if its one thing I know about, it's the random westernized creations that north american thai restaurants do which do no justice to authentic thai food. This place is the best I've ever had since being in North America for four years. I can see ppl not liking this place because it's kinda in a podunk place, and the food is perhaps not "usual tasting" for those accustomed to north american thai food. But from the bottom of my heart, I'll go there every day if I could. Makes me feel right at home.

Previously one of the original Thai locations local to the health science center.  Stingy and dingy.  Ate here when I first moved to San Antonio, but have not been back since.  Located in a strip mall.  There are much better choices available.  Actually I prefer the Thai buffets which offer more variety for only a few bucks more.

When I was first introduced to Thai food, this was the place I ate often. However as I discovered new places, tried new dishes, and as new places opened I found others that drew me away.

Its probably been a year or more now since I've eaten at Thai Taste, and I eat thai food almost weekly. The food is different from other Thai restaurants, most plates they serve have a sauce made of spices over them.  Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but I have other favorites locally.

Price wise they are very affordable. I recommend the lunch special if you want to try their food.
