Absolutely horrendous. Just went here on my lunch break and spent over an HOUR AND A HALF waiting for our food. Yes, for 5 lunch specials, we waited an hour and a half. Co-worker asked if the lemonade was fresh or from the tap, and the waitress just looked at her funny and gave her a "sample" in a shot glass. We repeatedly told her we were on lunch break, and she just smiled and said "soon".
She then told us she couldn't split the checks. Yep, lunch place that doesn't split the checks. Awesome.
Please, for the love of all things holy, if you're on lunch, do NOT go here. 5 lunch specials should not take an hour and a half. -

Walking in, you're immediately struck by how different it is from most other Thai restaurants. Like its compensating for something. And it is! I came here during lunch hours with a coworker. You're first presented with a plate of salad and a fried wonton with a cheese filling. I thought the appetizer was delicious! So far so good, right? For lunch I played it safe and ordered the Pad Thai. It came in a really nice white bowl that dwarfed the food. So, I thought, "My, my, what a fancy plate we have here.."
What it lacks in taste, it makes up for decor. So that means a lot of lacking. The pad Thai was pretty much just a yellow lump, couldn't tell the noodles from whatever the hell else was in there. It was so unmemorable that I can't even recall what it tastes like, but I do remember the nifty ass fountain in the back... -

Ordered their delivery was not pleased at all.
Yellow curry had lots of chicken (reason for their two stars) but it tasted very average. Not impressed.
The reason why I take time to write a review is because their order of sticky rice is SO small. Like a tad bigger than a golf ball. For $2? It was literally rolling around since it was in a Chinese take out box. I got two of them... Total of $4?! I GOT MY ASS RIPPED OFF!!!
Never again!!!!!!!

Once they seat you, the lunch service is fast! It does get crowded. I generally don't have issues with service here. The lunch menu is pretty decently priced. I really like the Pad Thai here and that's what I generally get.

moved from Japan, found this place while walking back from B&H. This place is awesome. Thought it was small by looking from outside. A fountain in the back of the restaurant, took some pictures with the statue.
The staffs was helpful. I am not so familiar with Thai food so they help me which one the best for me. I had Chicken Pad Gra Prow and Green curry Shrimp which was very very spicy but I really like it. Definitely I will come back here to try other stuffs and this place had become my new favorite Thai Restaurant in NYC -

i love their duck! tamarind duck, honey duck and strawberry duck. It sounds wierd but theyre great! it comes on a bed of vegetables and its boneless so you dont have to worry about using your hands to pull meat off the bones. doesnt come with rice, but oh well. its my feel-good food. The night before i have an important test, I order one of these guys to relax me.

Okay, I am going to be a bit generous here and offer 5 stars because this restaurant is definitely one of my favorites now in the area. Its tough finding good food around Macy's during lunch time! And with only 45 minutes for lunch (who does that btw?) I can't trek too far. But I can make it over here :)
Now to the stuff you really want to know.....The service was good and prompt. I had the pad thai and it was actually a nice portion. It also came with a house salad and a fried wonton skin deep fried with a cream cheese filling. Definitely a nice treat to begin with. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing with a fountain in the back. The place also looks clean and for midtown you cant ask for more in this price range.
Total pp came out to $12 (totally worth it.) -

Came in here late. Got chicken yellow curry and a Singha. Beer: cold. Curry: bland, and it had lots of apples in it. Weird. Service: Indifferent. Meh.

A few times a month, you'll see me there, waiting for my meal to be served. I enjoy a Chang beer as I immerse myself in the conversation. We tell a few jokes and the appetizers arrive. I'm a fan of the moo yang appetizer (grilled pork served on lettuce).
The ambiance is pleasant. The seats are comfortable and the lighting is usually low.
The pad gra prow is my favorite dish and eating it usually results in my dabbing my forehead with a hanky. The wait staff is usually great (with some exceptions; usually a newer person forgets to come by to refill our water, which becomes a problem when the spicy food starts working overtime).
I sometimes get the fried ice cream with raspberry sauce. Yummy! -

We had some AWFUL lychee sake (I know, our fault...) here. And the only lighting in the ladies bathroom was this huge Halloween jack-o'lantern, which was awesome!
Aside from never-meant-to-be flavors of alcohol and out-of-season holiday decor? This place was just really uninteresting. I admit, we were lured in by the drink specials. And for the price point you couldn't expect much more out of Hell's Kitchen. Still, for GOOD Thai food this would probably be one of the last places I'd return to. -

Pretty standard Thai fair for the neighborhood. Super close to me which is nice. There's a lot of seating but the decor is kinda overwhelming. Lots of green and I kinda felt like I was in a jungle or something.
Anyways, the green curry is very spicy, and I like spicy food, but was tad too spicy for my tastes. The tamarind duck was tasty and so was the calamari. I would come back again and see how their pad thai is. -

I know this mean seem high considering the randomness of the restaurant. This place in a crappy part of town between 34th street and port authority. I will say not only was I pleasantly surprised but exceptionally pleased. The food was delicious and actually pretty amazing. I had the pad kee mao with crab and shrimp and they were generous with both, the spice was perfect and the portions were huge and all for $15. My husband had a dish with avocado, beef and cashew nuts and said it was fantastic. I would absolutely go back to this place. Give a try.

(Really 3.75)
Visited on a cold, crowded Friday night for a solo dinner. Though the service was pretty good, the food wasn't anything super spectacular but good enough. Satisfied what I was looking for: something warm & tasty. Ordered the chicken satay, which was pretty good, some of the best I've had actually. Also had the cashew nut tofu, which I requested not be too spicy (I'm weak, sue me). 'Twas good as well. The ambiance is nice, and it seemed like the quite the happening place. Not sure its the best place for large groups though (perhaps they might be better seating for 4 or more in the back). Wasn't cheap for my struggling graduate student standards, but doable. If I was hungry after my internship or just in the area and not deathly poor, I'd consider coming again. -

3 stars for 3 reasons:
-convenient- blocks away from my work
-great price- lunch special- salad and a dumpling with your main entree
-space: unique and bright decor and atmosphere...
overall, Thai is Thai... There really isn't anything special..but it hit the spot..
Try it out though if you are looking from Thai food.. -

Part of the problem with this place is that there are a ton of other much better Thai places in that area...It's so odd that in a matter of 5 years, Thai has become the bourgeoise version of Chinese food!
Although I had a really awesome date here, mostly because the seating, lighting, and overall ambiance was conducive to creating a very nice and relaxing atmosphere, the food and drinks were underwhelming.
We started off with deep fried shrimp wrapped in egg roll skin and something else that reminded me of crab rangoon....the food didn't taste bad but it didn't impress me either.
I had the chicken pad thai which came very well decorated with a heap of beet and carrot strings but again, it was just meh. -

I've been at Thai Select quite a few times and all my lunches have been pleasurable. The service, food, ambiance, and prices are a-okay. However I did have one less than desirable experience-and that's the one I'm going to discuss. I understand that 12pm is the standard lunch time and the most likely time that low-priced and easily accessible places tend to get packed, but that should have zero affect on me. I made the mistake of showing up at 12 on the dot and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. When every minute counts, I'd say that was 20 minutes well spent. Finally we get a table and had to wait another 15 minutes to place our order. The waitress so skillfully ignored our table that you'd think eager eyes and hungry faces are less than preferable at a food joint. Eventually our orders were taken and all we had to do was sit and wait... and wait...and wait some more. Sometimes waiting for food when famished and in a rush can be as painful as waiting for your own execution. The people at the adjacent table were going through the same ordeal and kept ordering alcohol to ease the pain, for which unfortunately there was also a long wait. Of course with the allotted lunch hour long gone I was in the best of moods to enjoy my meal, placed before me at around 1:15pm. When I say the food was unworthy of the anticipation leading up to it, I mean it. I'm not just saying it out of anger. The aftertaste it left lingered on my tongue for almost as long as the whole waiting game. Had the food come quicker I'd thought the preparation was careless but in this case the cook clearly had more than enough of my lunch time to make a decent effort.
Overall though this place is great and when I show up at 1pm I am promptly seated, the order is taken shortly thereafter, the food arrives in 5 min and tastes great! -
Review from Benson Y.
I confess that I struggled a bit deciding on the star rating for this restaurant. I really want to give it "2.5" but there was just enough to merit three (but just barely). I'll explain in a bit.
Ninth avenue in this area is so flooded with Thai restaurants you'd think that the government was subsidizing them. There are literally four Thai restaurants in a four block radius of Port Authority Bus Terminal, it's kind of insane that they all stay in business but somehow they do. My previous experience with a Thai place in this area wasn't positive so I didn't have high hopes for this one.
Walking into Thai Select I was very encouraged by the setting. Welcoming green tile leading to an interior with a sky patterned tarp on the ceiling, a nice,m darkly lit dining area with a beautiful fountain in the back really drew me in. At the very least I knew I would be eating in a nice environment.
My girlfriend and I ordered several dishes so I'll go down the list:
Mussels in Thai herbs: This dish is steamed with the mussels sittin gin a wonderful broth that included galanga, onion, peppers and kiefer lime leaves. The broth had a wonderful tang to it and the mussles tasted good. The only drawback? I think the mussels were steamed a tiny bit too long as they were a tad rubbery. They were hardly inedible, just not the texture I would normally want from mussels.
Pork Thai Salad: This had pork that was marinated and seared using a sweet and tangy sauce often found at Thai restaurants. Usually this is a sweet and sour sauce. This version however had a lot of smokiness that tasted nice. A lot of this was owed to the sear put on the meat which was wonderful. The salad had a mix of vegetable sincluding beets, carrots and lettuce. This alone would have made for a satisfying meal.
Shrimp Clay Pot Boil: Loaded with shrimp, rice noodles and vegetables this clay pot boil was absolutely delicious., My only problem with it, much like the mussels involved consistancy. The shrimp were a bit overdone and slightly tough. Not rubbery by any means, just not as tender as I would have liked.
Vegetarian duck sautee: This was my favorite dish of the night. Taking the "mock duck" found in most Asian markets and cooking it up with a combination of peppers and onions, this dish pleases the taste buds while delivering a satisfying meat-like "chew".
So why the hesitation beyond the slightly overcooked meat? Well, the Clay Pot boil was part of a list of special dishes being served that night that included a glass of wine. We did not get the glass of wine until we asked for it. Then when the bill came, they *charged us* for the wine. They corrected this when we brought it to their attention, but it was still almost silly since they forgot the wine to begin with!
I'd be willing to give this place another chance in the future, but I'm in no rush. -

Wonderful Atmosphere, Beautiful waitresses.
I asked the chef to prepare me his favorite dish, done his favorite way. No idea what it was called but my waitress told me it's not on the menu.It was Totally delish. Any place gets extra points when I tell them "Thai Spicy, not white people spicy" and they oblidge. This dish blew my face off, like in face off.

Over all 4 stars. Decent food, good lively (not noisy) ambiance, friendly service, and nice decor inside.
When I looked at this restaurant from the outside, it looked really quiet and small. But somehow this place has narrow but long dining area which continues to all the way to the back and actually much more spacious than it looks from outside. I also like their a little dark and contemporary ambiance.
Like some other Thai restaurants on 9th av around here, this place also has half price drinks happy hour till 7:30pm. But compared to the other Thai restos in this neighborhood, they charge slightly (really a bit) more.
In this neighborhood, this place and Ace luck are the two major options for my Thai dining out. The food at Ace luck has (I think) more authentic taste, and that of Thai select has (I think) more non-thai ppl friendly taste. -

In the black hole of sit-down lunch spots in mid-town west, Thai Select is a shimmering star. They have a great lunch deal and tasty food. Not my favorite Thai in the city (Land Thai), but does the trick for a good, quick eat!

3.5 Stars.. I've ordered from Thai Select in the past for business meetings and it's been pretty delicious trying a variety of dishes, but the service was pretty poor the other day when I stopped into the restaurant. Granted, they seemed to be a bit short staffed on waiters but our food came out at weird times, we had to beg for water, and cocktails were almost impossible to get delivered to our table. Not to mention the check.
The food on the other hand was pretty tasty. My friend and I ordered veggie dumplings, tom yum soup with shrimp (for me), and red curry with vegetables, and pad se you with chicken to share. My soup was good, but not great - I usually like a lot more heat spice wise. Our dumplings never came out before our meal was delivered so we canceled them. Both entrees were delicious - the red curry we had ordered spicy, and it was HOT! ..just the way I like it. Lots of fresh veggies, flavor.. it's not the best thai food I've had in Manhattan but it was decent. Would have gotten 4 stars if the service wasn't so poor. Sweet half off drinks and beers happy hour (hello $3 Singhas!) till 8pm.Listed in: Thai food obsession

Review from Lili K.
I was walking along the streets with mah boo and noticed the nice decor inside, so I picked up a delivery menu. But, after we watched a musical for his birthday, we walked by here again and decided to sit down at the bar and eat.
I ordered the beef pat see ewe, which came in a large plate with a small hole (yes, how some fancy Italian places do it). There was definitely not as much pat see ewe in it as the regular places, and it was a bit oily. It was ~$10 which was a bit pricier than normal, but the venue does have more of an upscale vibe to it.
I would drop by for happy hour, but since it was the boo's bday, I told him he could have whatever he wants. He ordered a beer for $6 (happy hour would be $3) and I got a cocktail. I asked the bartender if they did anything for bdays (never hurts to ask!) and he nodded at me and smiled. A few minutes later, he produces two yummy shots of a whipped cream vodka and adds some lychee to it. The boo really dug the drinks, so props to them for hookin' it up! All in all the meal and ambiance were a great way to end the night, right before they closed at 11pm. I'd come here again for their happy hour. -

Everything was way, way too sweet. Went with many other people and we all agreed, despite all getting different dishes. The lunch soup was unusual but pretty good.
Nothing else remarkable about this place other than the offensive 90s Miami lounge decor. Ugh. -
Review from Janel Y.
Was waiting for some friends to meet us up for dinner so we popped in here since it was still Happy Hour time.
I ordered a Lychee martini and a Thai Breeze. Both were good, although I ended up liking the martini better. We sat at the bar and I noticed the popular drink that night was the Lychee martini. The bartender there made atleast 10 of them just in the hour and a half we were there!
Instead of your typical bar snack like nuts, we were served popcorn. I'm not a fan of popcorn so it's been awhile since I've had it, but this popcorn was tasty! Lightly salted and buttered, I think I ate the whole bowl! -

Average but they do have a great happy hour. In a pinch it is not that bad.
The coconut soup is pretty good and I the chicken satay looks pretty good. My friend loves the pad thai.
I think some of their dishes just have a bitter taste to them. -

I have only ever ordered takeout from here, but I don't know that I have ever been disappointed. My office orders from either here or Alpha Fushion, and currently, Thai Select is winning our business. Timely delivery, good food, good service and friendly staff. Try the Pineapple Fried Rice for a non-spicey meal.

It's great because the place caters to large crowds. Usually when we have a party of 20-30 people and we need a last minute place, call this place up in the afternoon to reserve the back space for dinner and you're good to go! Very hospitable and will really help with catering to our large crowd. The food is acceptably good for Thai food (I'm Thai, there's only so much I can say about authenticity of Thai food), drinks are good, atmosphere is nice - I really recommend for large parties.

When I worked nearby, nothing made me happier than their tofu pad-see-yue. SO GOOD. Their lunch service is so fast and they can take big parties. They always have new free appetizers. Even though I live in SF now, I miss this place all the time.

Last night in New York City. My daughter chose thai. We want close, somewhere that would deliver to her apartment.
Thanks to fellow yelpers, we found Thai Select.
Here's what we had. Tom Yum Soup, a spicy broth with shrimp, mushrooms, lemongrass, chili, karrir and lime leaves was so, yummy, however, spring rolls were just fair, not amazing.
The Pad Se Ew with tender chicken and made with flat rice noodles, Chinese broccoli and egg in a sweet yellow bean sauce was perfectly seasoned.
And then there was the Tom Yum Fried Rice. Perfectly spicy chicken with brown rice.
Literally, there was enough food for two more meals. And the price. $35 (before a $5 delivery tip)? We had enough for four meals - what's that, $9 per meal? You can't beat that for fresh thai food. We'll definitely be back. -

So when I can't get to Thai Taste in South Jersey when I'm working in New York, my go-to place is Thai Select. At first it was simply convenient for me to go here from where I stay, but even when I stay in another part of the city, I make the trek to Thai Select.
I love the atmosphere...very conducive to finding a spot at a table where I can have a few of their delicious Lychee Martinis and read my book while waiting on my Pad Thai or Massaman Curry. I recently walked in and just sat at the bar and did the same.
If you want wait staff coming over every minute to see if you need something, you probably shouldn't go here. I like to sit and enjoy my food, drink, and book, so I can't tell you the service stinks but I know they're not as attentive as most places.
The food never disappoints, atmosphere is clean and modern, people are friendly. What more do you need?
