Fife is a weird area. It's all industrial supporting the Tacoma sea ports. We came in on a Saturday about 1:30pm and it was very spacious, had many tables and only had about 3 other couples in there at that time.
We were served promptly by a nice little old lady. We ordered the spring rolls w/plumb sauce, the lunch special; curry chicken with phad thai and rice, and an entre of Garlic beef. Everything was great. Was served fast and tasted very authentic. The phad thai had that "funk" that I'm always looking for. The spring rolls were the deep fried version, I should have read the description better as I expected the fresh kind. The Garlic beef was loaded with garlic and was just tasty! The curry chicken was the yellow variety and was good also. Most everything was under $7. We were stuffed when we left and even had a take home box. Roughly $27 total with some Pepsi and Thai iced tea we added to the ice waters.
I would recommend this place to anyone if you like authentic Thai food.
Umm, Fife at lunchtime. What are the choices. Did the Poodle Dog. Don't want fast food. Thai sounds good! I loves Thai from a strip mall!
Walking into Thai in Fife my first impression was that it was a pretty modern looking place. The kitchen is completely open to the dining area which is something you don't normally get to see in a Thai joint.
The menu was quite large and took some time to review. Me? I always know what I want. Pad Kee-Mao! I love those wide rice noodles mixed with the tang of tomatoes, the sweetness of onions and crunch of the broccoli. Pad Kee-Mao is what I use as my standard for comparing Thai restaurants. How did they do? Not bad. The veggies were well cooked and were sauced alright. Where it didn't quite meet expectations was in the noodles. They weren't the nice thick ones I love so much as because they weren't, they didn't soak up the sauce and flavors like many other versions I have had do.
Would I stop here again? You bet. I might even change my rating based on the other dishes. The place is pleasant and the menu extensive. Next time I am in Fife at lunchtime I will stop again. After all, where else am I going to eat?
Working where I work, the choices are limited. Also, I have a very tough time trusting peoples' opinions of food up here, as I have mentioned in my previous review. Well one day, lunch rolled around, and my co-worker Heidi suggested the Thai Restaurant in Fife. (Original Name...right?) And as luck would have it, she had a menu handy.
Upon first look, I wasn't excited. But I was being judgmental based on the prices (VERY low...compared to Kirkland)...and the descriptions of the food: "Chicken, yellow curry, potatoes, and carrots" for example. So I passed. And she went out to get food for herself.
Later, I was starving and feeling stupid, so I stole a piece of the broccoli from her Pad See Ew. More like Pad See YUM! So good....
I think it was the next day that I demanded that we get food from there. I ordered the Pad See Ew with Beef. Oh my goodness! SOOOOOOOOO TASTY! And for Six Bucks?!?!? Crazy. It's so good that I have only ordered that dish about 5 times that we have eaten there. Everything else that I get for other people at the office always looks really good. The prawns in Heidi's dish always look fat and juicy.
In addition, the restaurant has a ton of seating and looks to be quite clean. They also have an open-kitchen and that reassures me that no cats or dogs are being slaughtered out back to make my yummy Thai food. (Not that it would stop me from eating there because it's so good and it would explain the low-low prices.)
The ladies that I always see when I go get food are always nice. Like, the nicest! It's funny because their English is really bad and when you place a huge order over the phone, you'd expect a mistake. But there hasn't been one yet.
I love the Thai Restaurant in Fife. If you are heading south and happen upon Fife around lunch time, just pull off the freeway and go. I promise you'll be so happy you did.
oh, man!!! :(
we ate here last night and i am pretty sure they have a new cook. my basil fried rice was straight up MUSHY, and then i woke up at 2 in the morning and puked it all up.
this is quite sad.

Best Thai food I have ever had. They have a wide variety of dishes at very decent prices. Check them out! Right on the 99. Very authentic and vegetarian friendly.
