While this isn't the BEST Thai I've ever had, I'm very excited to have it only a 3-minute walk from my office!

My boyfriend has treated me to Thai Recipe for dinner several times before, and we always walk away feeling plump and happy about our experience. They have really tasty, flavorful curry. The price, however, turns us off, so we don't eat Thai as much as we'd like. (Yes, we understand these are Tahoe prices, but Yellow Curry for $11.99 PLUS the price of rice....might as well go to a nice seafood restaurant or something nearby, ya dig?)

The fact remains: there is little ethnic food to be found in Tahoe. The only other Thai place on the North Shore is the newly-opened Thai Kitchen in Tahoe City...and let's be frank: they suck. (See: my review of Thai Kitchen)

I generally don't treat myself for lunch, but once every two weeks is acceptable and today was my "treat" day. I called Thai Recipe and asked if they could fax the menu, as I'm a workin' girl and can't waste my whole lunch break waiting around on food. They were very nice about faxing it; I received the fax in about five minutes. I called to make my order shortly thereafter, and walked to pick it up ten minutes later. It was ready on time.

I cannot believe the amount of food I got for only $9 TOTAL! I had a half-order of Pad Thai and a Thai salad with peanut sauce in one container (honestly, this was enough to be lunch all by itself) and a big container of Musmun Curry (this is a spicy red curry that is usually served with beef - they were VERY nice to substitute tofu for me). In regards to the curry, they ask you to specify how hot you would like it, and I'm a total wuss and opted for 1 on the scale of 1-5. (I've made the mistake of ordering spicy here before - Kentucky don't play...this shit is real.)  I ate my salad and Pad Thai and only a few bites of the curry before I was absolutely stuffed. What I have here are leftovers - and lunch on another day!

My only major complaint about the food: tough potatoes. Seriously, guys...just boil 'em a 'lil longer, kay? Kay.

For years, your choices for international cuisine in Incline Village were sadly limited to mostly Mexican restaurants.  There is a Chinese restaurant here that's been in business forever, but I'm not sure why - service there is beyond horrible and food is flavorless. But I digress.

So when Thai Recipe came into being a few years ago, we were pretty excited.  Their food is not on the high scale of complexity, but it's solid and consistent. Mostly we order from the lunch specials, which are usually under $8 and come with a little salad with great peanut sauce, rice or pad thai, and your dish of choice.  Quite filling for that price.  Their curries are simple but good.  We also order the dumplings pretty often, and we always fight over them.

A friend of mine who comes here is one of those people that always changes up her order.  You know that person.  A dish is supposed to be fried and she wants it broiled instead.  A dish comes with veggies and she wants a hot jacket potato instead.  Anyway, whenever she comes here with me, I try not to roll my eyes at the inevitable "switcheroo."  But the staff always just smile and say sure without a complaint.  That's a nice touch.

I don't think the service is extraordinary and I don't think the food is that great.  We ordered these shrimp/pork dumplings that almost made me throw up.  It tasted and smelled like they have been soaking in fish oil all day long.  Sick.  I don't think their food tastes fresh and the vegetables are small and weak.   I think the yellow curry is good.  I kept going to this place because my boyfriend likes it and I kept saying, "Ok, I'll give it another chance."  NEVER AGAIN.  I refuse and life is too short to pay a lot of money for bad quality food.

Update:  I should make a note that they make great brown rice.  Someone made me realize that maybe I was too negative and harsh.  I can see the positive in things too.  :)  I like the decor too.  I was in Thailand a few years back and the decor is true to the Thai culture.  Who knows, maybe I'll give them another chance!

I ordered Pad Se Iew for lunch. With the exception of some differences in vegetables it's similar to Pad Thai. It was ok . . . better than I thought it would be for Incline Village.

The service was ok. She didn't come by to ask how the meal was, but kept an eye on me from afar and kept my water glass full. She was also pleasant.

The decor is Thai although my first impression was Mexican. I don't quite know why. Perhaps the multicolored walls reminded me of Mexico or that it might have been a Mexican restaurant at one time???

It's worth it if you are in Incline Village and aren't expecting much.

Excellent Thai food!

We have visited Thailand, and the food is equally good as in the home country!!

We absolutely love it!

The owner is very nice, and she even has written a Thai recipe book, which you can purchase at the restaurant.

Last night we had take-out Thai food, and it was excellent -- as always.

If you like spicy, ask your waiter to make it hot.  You will not be sorry!

Enjoy!  This is a great little place!

A good place to eat Thai in the North Lake Tahoe area. The food is not 100%, but close enough if all you're looking for is some good spicy food. The spice ratings are 1~5 american style, meaning you have to ask for 4/5 to get it spicy.
The closest dish I thought resembled real Thai food was their Yellow Curry.

Would I go there again? sure.

If you're in North Lake Tahoe and really wanted some Thai food, this is a decent place to go.  It can't really compare with the quality of Thai food that is available in the bay area, but it will suffice.  More importantly, it is decent Thai food at a reasonable price compared to other choices nearby.

The service was reasonable.  We were seated in the corner and it was harder to get the waitress' attention, but most of the time it was attentive.  We had two curries and a soup.  All reasonably executed, but nothing to write home about.  Would I go back?  Once in a while, but not all the time.

I'm wondering if they have improved their food recently, because the one time I ate there last year, it was nothing special.  I remember ordering a beef stir-fry dish of some sort, and being surprised that the beef was served as ground beef.  It tasted ok, but wasn't anything I was considering going back to again.  I absolutely love Thai food, so after reading the latest three reviews, I'll have to stop by and try it again.

Update: I've eaten there twice since my last review and I'm holding steady at 3 stars. They have pretty good curries, but everything else just isn't worth it.

When walking into this place it reminds me of a restaurant that I would find in the Bay Area.  Nice and small mom n pop restaurant with nice Thai art decorating the restaurant. My friend and I ordered the egg rolls, a spinach dish with beef and pumpkin lamb.  The egg rolls were good but I really enjoyed the sweet and sour sauce that came with them.  Next came the pumpkin lamb.  It was very flavorful.  The beef and spinach were just ok.  It was not very spicy for a 5.  Our service was just ok.  The lady who served us seemed really unhappy to be there.  But the younger gentleman who helped us with our bill was the polar opposite.  This place definitely has promise for some amazing dishes.  I'll come back to try more when in the area.

The reviewer who gave this only one star made us really scratch our head but we went ahead and ordered from this place anyways. Because of the low ratings we weren't expecting much but it was actually pretty damn good. The duck dish was good.

We ordered exclusively off the specialty menu (the owner sells a cookbook with the recipes).  We shared 3 entrees for 2 people including a mussels dish (excellent but very hot), a chicken dish and a scallop and shrimp dish.  All were great as was the service-the waitress noticed we had touble with the hotness of the mussels (served first) and downgraded the hotness of the other 2 entrees which were just right.  There was way more than enough food and the prices were great.

Having just moved to Incline from San Francisco - we found ourselves craving Thai food and decided to give this place a try. Lunchtime was packed - smells were great, so we ordered a bunch of items to try. All very tasty - just as good as SF - and now our lives are complete with a new favorite Thai place to get our fix.

In ethnically challenged Incline Village, Thai Recipe offers authentic, flavorful Thai cuisine at a reasonable price.  Despite reading a bad yelp review, I and seven other friends decided to give Thai Recipe a try and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of the food.  The honey beef was particularly good as was the green chicken curry.

This was the worst Thai and meal I've ever had.  No other words neccessary.  Even their house specialty Veggie was horrible.  Thai ice tea?  Waste of money.  Curry dish?  It was worst ever!!!   We should've sent back the dishes we ordered.  We couldn't even finish them.

Maybe I just picked the wrong dishes, but I wasn't very impressed with this place at all. We ordered Pad Thai and a yellow chicken curry. The shrimp in the Pad Thai just didn't taste very good (not quite sure why) and I felt like the curry lacked flavor. I'd go back because it has gotten good reviews from other people, but I can't say I was wowed.
