Harvard Avenue (Green)
I knew this was a good place as soon as I saw the Yelp sticker on the door. I was sure it was a good place when I walked in and 3/4 people who worked there all stopped what they were doing to make eye contact with me and say hello. Even if the food were bad, I'd probably come back. I had the tofu tamarind the first time and it was very fresh and tasty--if a little sweet for me. Today I had the pad thai--just right. They do accept credit cards but it costs them money so they prefer if you pay in cash. They are up the block from Urban Renewals, so you can hit them both on the same trip.
update: I still like this place, but so far most of the things I've ordered have been too sweet for me.
I love the Thai Place. As many others I alternate between the Thai Place and S& I Thai. [I hail Brown Sugar as the Queen of Thai restuarants but when I'm looking for delivery that takes charge, its definetly one of these two places]. Quick delivery, yummy food, and scrumptious mango fried rice!
yayyyy thai place. I order from here at least once a week i would say and i am always happy and spiced filled. the country pad thai is my favorite, i always order it, while my roomie sticks to the yellow curry. ive also had the drunken noodles which are yum yum. my only complaint is that they don't make the summer rolls anymore! and they were so freakin good! oh well. good times come and go, right?
anywho, their delivery is super fast and the staff are always so sweet. thank you thai place for being you!!!

I love Thai Place! The food is a tad more expensive than some other Thai places in Allston, but I honestly think it is the best! Great fried rice and pad thai! Everything on the menu is excellent!
The restaurant itself is quite small with only a few tables, but nice. The delivery is always quick!

My Thai friend and I also alternate between here and S & I. The owners are both personal friends of mine, so it's hard to choose one over the other. Let me say that if you are looking for authentic North Eastern Thai food, including, papaya salad, satay, larb catfish and the like, go to Thai Place. The owners are from that area of Thailand and the food is amazing! The owners of S&I are from Petchabun, and are lovely people. Their food is also very authentic, and serves amazing Catfish Pud Ped and Salty Fish Fried Rice.
I really like Thai Place.
Why? Simple: great food, very flexible menu (not only can they make anything vegetarian, but they're also cool with adding plum sauce to your chicken, and taking out the shrimp and peanuts of another dish) decent prices. Mmm.
My personal faves (and there are many!) are ravioli & spring roll apps, the mango tofu curry (not too spicy, but lots of flavor), the sauteed ginger beef/tofu/chicken (whatever you're in the mood for) and the curries (since I'm a total spice wimp, I usually ask them to tone it down for me, but my fiancee, cousin, and roommate all LOVE the heat).
Why not five stars?? There soups are okay, but not as flavorful as some (they used to have really good noodle soups, but they've been dropped for '08) and the noodle dishes are inconsistent. For example, the pad woon sen will be wonderful one night, but then dry and bland the next week. Maybe it depends on who's in the kitchen--we order there often enough to notice these little differences ;)
Bottom line: if you like Thai, live nearby, and are looking for a nice dish, Thai Place is worth a shot.

Amazing food, at great prices. Anything on the menu can be made vegetarian if you ask, and their crispy pad thai, veggie drunken noodle, and spicy basil tofu are all my favorites- absolutely fantastic. The menu itself is pretty extensive. The people who work here are very sweet, and it's never a long wait for your take-out to be ready. It is a little bit difficult to find if you've never been there before, but trust me, it's worth it.
Greattttt. Thinking about this place has made me hungry..

I tend to split my orders between Thai Place and S&I when I'm in the mood for no-frills thai food. Low prices and super-fast delivery keep me coming back. Their food is consistently good.
May I recommend the Crispy Chicken Basil? Deliciously crispy on the outside; tender and moist on the inside, with a heaping portion of white rice (brown rice, or noodles are available if you prefer) and veggies on the side. All for $8. Their curries are all very good as well.

I'm not a big fan of Thai restaurants that resort to hawking dim sum on their menus. But I understand why Thai Place does it. For several years, it had the monopoly on, well, Thai places in Allston -- so any customers they could lure away from the Chinese restaurants was good for business. Sure, the cuisine snobs could snub Thai Place all they wanted for serving shu mei reheated from the package, but it was never going to make a difference. When you're the only Thai food joint in Allston (and you deliver), you can get away with whatever you want.
Ah, but how the plot thickens! Within the past year, a pair of new Thai places (S&I and Bo Thai) have set up shop in Allston. So where exactly does that leave the "original" Thai Place?
Try Third Place.

If you like Thai food, you'll love this place! The staff are friendly and very quick, and the food is great... better than Brown Sugar and less expensive too. The only thing I'd change about it is the size. There are a few tables inside, but it's really a take out restaurant. It's so small you need a microscope to notice it wedged between all the other businesses on Brighton Ave, but it's worth the search.
You have got to love Gunshala. These people are the greatest. The food is excellent, delivery is fast, and if they make a mistake they bend over backwards to rectify it. I wandered in there the second day they were open and could not make up my mind about what to order, so I ordered three meals that were so good, I sat there and ate them The owner looked at me and said "Oh, big boy eats a lot." I have been laughing ever since.

My husband and I are seeking a reasonable neighborhood Thai place to pick up a weeknight meal. Thai Place is located right next to our favorite Indian dive, Indian Dhabha, so the choice to order from them was made out of practicality and convenience.
We had the tofu and veggie panang curry and the spicy green beans with tofu and two orders of brown rice. Though we ordered the larger family style version, the portions were still small (i.e. the take out containers were not filled to the brim). The curry was decent, but more like a standard red curry. I wouldn't repeat the stir fry because the sauce was just a conveyance for salt and tartness.
We'll order again knowing it's a safe bet, but we weren't wowed.
Wow, excessively good food packed into a space the size of a closet. Everything is really fresh, and the portions are perfect. Seriously, I've been dreaming about ordering from here ever since stealing a fellow yelper's broccoli and peanut sauce dinner...

My friend introduced me to this place and I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first. But, do not judge this place on appearances alone. It's small, it's cramped, it's poorly decorated. It, however, has some of the best Thai food I've ever come across at amazingly reasonable prices.
The Drunken Noodle in particular is simply amazing. It's so flavorful and spicy and it's just as good reheated the next day! It's also a great, instant hangover cure.
The major downside being that it's not a great dine-in restaurant, but takeout is their specialty anyway. They'll even served you thai iced tea or hot tea (depending on the season) while you wait for takeout! The staff is always pleasant and I have to say that I was overjoyed when they decided to open on Sundays even if it is for only part of the day. It's too bad I live on the other side of the country now and have not found any restaurant that compares.

Great hole in the wall Thai shop. Very small... only seating for about 12 total... but the food is very good and the prices are on the less expensive side.
Try the coconut chicken soup (one of the best I have had of late - lots of fresh mushrooms) and the Country Pad Thai... both were excellent.
Tucked away next to an ATM and directly across from the Brooks Pharmacy on Brighton Ave. sits quite possibly the best and most underrated Thai restaurant in Boston.
The menu is impressively sized for a small take-out restaurant and includes some out of this world versions of standard thai dishes. Never sacrificing flavor for heat, the Thai Places makes spicy offerings that are far superior to other Boston establishments. I highly recommend the drunken noodle.
Helpful Hint: If ordering delivery from Thai Place, make sure to call about 30 minutes before you want to eat. It may take a little longer than normal but it's worth it; the drivers make limited stops during each run to ensure food is as fresh and piping hot as possible.

This was the Thai place I went to when I moved to Brighton last year. I loved it, but since sometimes their delivery is slow, I went onto Yelp to find another place in my area that I could use as an alternate. I didn't really find anything else, and all the glowing reviews for Thai Place convinced me that I had it right the first time - so what if you have to wait an extra 15 minutes? (Though the other night I waited an hour and 15 minutes for my delivery that they said would be there in 45 minutes - the guy said he got lost, but it still bumps my rating down from 5 stars to 4) The food is excellent, and the portions are large. I often have leftover for the next day. My favorites are the Pad Thai with Crispy Chicken, the pan-seared dumplings, and a Thai Iced Tea. My boyfriend always gets the Cashew Chicken, it's a little spicy for me, but he loves it.

Hi quality Thai, very friendly family that runs it. They deliver, but it's more fun to go and sit there because it's the size of a small bathroom.
How's that for brevity?

Awesome place, Great ,cheap, and fast Thai food. The owners/staff are extremely courteous and nice. Highly recommended. Go around the corner and buy a 6 pack of singha from Marty's Liquors and give the cook one for me, Since I now live 3400 miles away.

We LOVE the thai place...we live in brookline and so far it is the best we have tried (yes, including dok bua). Good value, and the delivery always comes hot and fresh. My fave is the drunken noodle, and the coconut soup is excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. Be warned that delivery takes a loooonnngg time; but its worth it
This place is simply amazing. My roommates and I had a craving for some good Thai one night. Being that we live in the area, we ordered some takeout from the Thai Place. It's the best! Everything we had was simply amazing. And so inexpensive! Thumbs up!

Talk about bang for your buck, this Place has the best Thai food in the whole city and costs half the price. When I lived in Brighton I would get Tum Yum Soup, Thai Rolls and one of their great selection of crispy chicken dishes delivered at least once a week by their super friendly drivers. Plus you can never go wrong with a Thai Iced Tea. The only problem with Thai Place is the tiny dining in area, which is fine in the summertime but gets freezing cold in the winter.

Thai Place is practically on speed dial whenever we're in the mood for some Thai delivery. It's a cute, no-frills place to eat, too, if you're passing by. The food is consistently good and delivery is super speedy, often clocking in at 15-20 minutes!
I got a new job in Brighton so I'm going to slowly check out the huge selection of restaurants in the area. I was in the mood for something different and after looking through tons of reviews I decided to try Thai Place. I am so happy I did. I ordered the dumpling soup which was good. It had more sprouts than I would have liked but still liked it. I also got the Thai Place appetizer platter. What better way to experiment. I liked just about everything on the platter. The dumplings were amazing, I'll get these again for sure. The Chicken Satay was also great with the peanut sauce. The crispy chicken had crack in it I think because I couldn't get enough of them. Loved the pork ravioli. I wasn't a big fan of the spring rolls but thats ok, everything else was so good I can forgive that. The service was awesome. I had it delivered and they told me 45 minutes and it only took a half hour.
I can't wait to go back!
I saw this place on the way home from work and it was somewhat of a casual drop-in. Absolutely loved the place. There weren't many people there as the service was spectacular and the food was outstanding. I was sure to give my compliments to the chef.
