After strolling through Portland with a friend, we decided to give this place a try. Now, let me paint you my love for Thai food. I ABSOLUTELY ENJOY/LOVE THAI FOOD. Although I don't possess much knowledge about the food and its history, I love devouring them. I don't think there is many Thai restaurants that I didn't try in Portland.

Anyways, I went in here expecting similar Pad Thai experience that I had at other Thai restaurants. Wrong. Thai Peacock's Pad Thai was deliciousness *10. Drenched in seasoning and awesomeness, I think their Pad Thai is the best I had so far in Portland.

    I'm confused. Four stars? Really?

My girlfriends and I went here the other night in search of some yummy Thai Food. To our dismay, there was nothing yummy about the place and our servers were pretty sour...

I ordered the Pad See Ew and it might have been the worst thing I've ever (attempted) to eat. Our food arrived very shortly after ordering and I'm pretty positive they burned my noodles/tofu...I was concerned I was being overly sensitive and made my friends do a taste test; we all agreed it tasted pretty charcoaly.

To top it all off, our server seemed impatient, pushy and grumpy as heck. I work in the service industry, so I understand the frustrations of a long, bad day. However, it isn't acceptable to take it out on your customers. The entire time we felt rushed and absurdly uncomfortable.

So long, Thai Peacock. I don't think we'll be going back. There are too many other delightful, moderately priced Thai food.

Amazing Thai food. Definitely some of the best I've had in Portland.

The place is tiny, but well-decorated, warm and cozy on a cold winter evening. (There's even sidewalk seating for when summer rolls around again!) Food is very reasonably priced, although the alcoholic drinks are on the expensive side... we didn't indulge, although I did invest in a hot tea that tasted coconutty without being sweet, reminiscent of a Thai iced tea only, y'know, hot.

Great pad thai - no heat (they don't ask you about spice levels, so be sure to mention it when you order if you love/can't stand spicy) but wonderful flavor. What really blew me away was the phad prik king - stir-fried green beans with bell peppers and tofu in a spicy chili sauce. (I don't think it was marked as spicy on the menu, so again - be sure to mention your spice preferences.) The depth of flavor in the sauce pleasantly surprised me - I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, and got one of the best Thai dishes I've ever tasted. They also brought out rice without asking and without charging us for it. When restaurants are starting to charge $2 for a bowl of white rice, complimentary rice is a lovely touch.

Docked one star because both servers were really unfriendly. No smiles, very few curt words, certainly no "how is everything?" check-ins. I don't care. The food is worth it.

My friends and I went to Thai Peacock, and from what I remember, I always had a pleasant experience. However, this time, our waitress was extremely rude. She asked us what we wanted to order as soon as we got to our table, and looked pissed when we said we needed more time to decide. Once we did order and we got our food, the waitress was literally staring at me the whole time. It made me extremely uncomfortable and I had no idea as to why she was doing it. We were rushed the whole time, and got our check 5-10 minutes after we got our food.

We all left in a horrible mood, and I will never go back again.
With all the choices of Thai in Portland, it's not worth it.

Cozy warm atmosphere--a delight compared to some other asian restaurants that have white walls with posters up!

I had the pineapple curry. Delicious. ~$13. Not too bad--I got 2.5 meals out of it!

I'm so glad I found this Thai place that's so close to work.

The house curry "Thai Peacock Curry" was absolutely phenomenal.  I tried the pad thai too (as I usually do in order to compare Thai joints), and it was the best I've had in Oregon.
Small, cute establishment with a good sized menu.  Prices are a bit on the high side, but worth it, since the quality is top notch.  Recommended!

I was in Portland for work and decided to grab some take-out.  First, they don't deliver despite that it says here that they do!

Hostess was super friendly and threw in an extra container to eat my rice and curry with...much appreciated.

    Food:

Thai Peacock Curry (medium) was really good. Lots of broccoli and carrots in a really flavorful curry.  Veggies were cooked perfectly. The chicken in it was a bit chewy and slightly gristly so I didn't eat it. Next time I'll go for just veggies.

Fried won-tons...ehh...nothing special but not bad.

Fast, cheap and flavorful. Not the best but good for sure.

I've been to this place a couple of times over the past 2 years. The food has always been tasty, and my most recent experience was some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. I'm giving the 5 stars based on the quality of the food and speed of the delivery of food upon ordering. Sit outside if you ever go when the weather is warm - it is a bit cramped inside. We got the green curry (medium spice) and evil jungle noodles (perfect dish for a combo of curry and noodles) and salad rolls.

I rarely go to restaurants more than a few times in Portland, because there are so many choices out there, but this is one place that I always know I can get a good Thai meal at a decent price.

Ok, I'm not going to dock the ratings because the waitress was being visably upset that we showed up with two babies. Babies can be annoying to non-parents, just like talking on a cell phone can be annoying to older people.
But she was, she didn't smile, not once, in fact she was kinda pissy looking. Anyway, I've said my piece... if the food wasn't AMAZING I wouldn't be able to ignore it so easily... but the food WAS amazing! oh myyyyyy.
I got the Tofu Pad Thai. So delicious. Saucy but not too orange, and a nice amount of sweet but no heat, which is fine for me, just thought I would note it for you. :)
My husband got the Thai Peacock Curry... oooohhhh lord that was heaven. I had to tell myself "Stop it, that's his, leave him alone" I would have swapped in a heart beat.
My friends got the Evil Jungle noodles and the Thai Peacock noodles.  Both looked amazing.
So what makes this place better than the rest?? The flavor of course. While I love Thai food in general, the flavors were so intense and rich and bold here. More so than anywhere else. My Pad Thai had some veggies like brocoli and his curry had lots of veggies too.  You could tell that the chef loved his food and unlike other places, it was not just feeding the masses.
I guess it didn't hurt that I was eating good food with good people in a restaurant that was small and intimate. The whole experience was great. I can't wait to go back!

Great regular spot for Thai food.  Love that they are open until 10 pm as I usually work late and they are always accommodating.

It'd like to address some people's poor reviews about the service here because I've been to this place at least 15 times and never had any issues.  But, people, please PLEASE try to understand that there is usually one waitress working in here.  If they are at all busy (more than 4 tables) that girl is working her ASS off and doesn't have time to kiss your butt while you flail around with your order.  I have worked as a restaurant manager for years and can appreciate what the servers do here. They might not be overly friendly but that's because they're usually busy and I appreciate the efficiency.  That's not to say that I haven't had good service here - the waitresses know my boyfriend and I now and are always very kind.

Food:  Please ORDER THE CATFISH SPECIAL!!  It's on the sign and it never changes.  I highly recommend it!! The price is amazing for what you get - 4 fillets of catfish (not deep fried) but sauteed to a crispy kind of finish with an amazing yellow sauce. Not as thick and saucy as curry, more like a stir fry, but incredible flavor with bamboo shoots, veggies, and sweet basil leaves. Portion is huge for the price. YUMMY!

I've enjoyed the pumpkin and mango curries, but my favorite is always the Panang curry. They do a fantastic job with it here. Ask for spicy goodies on the side if you like it hot, they will bring a nice assortment of peppers to your table.

The mango black bean stir fry on the menu is awesome. When I asked what veggies were inside, she said there weren't very many, so I asked if she could add extra. What was served was incredible - a huge plate of broccoli and beans to accompany the dish.  Ordered this with pork and it was delightful!

I usually get salad rolls to start my meal because they are brought out quickly and they're cheap! They are very light, (tofu inside) but satisfying and I like the peanut sauce they are served with.

For two of us to eat here, the price is always less than $40 for dinner (always includes 2 entrees, sometimes 2 orders salad rolls, and tea) and we are both big eaters who usually have leftovers.  Great place!

Excellent!  Originally tried this place on a Groupon whim and have been back three times!  The food is fresh but the 'tude is not.  (Not too sure where previous reviews got the bad service vibe, but our waitresses have always been gracious and prompt).  The flavors here are vibrant and the veggies are cooked to ideal crispness for my taste.  I can't speak to the "authenticity" of the Thai-ness, but I also think discussing authenticity of food in the US is about as wanky as an ironic handlebar mustache.  Does the food taste great here?  Absolutely.  The only drawback is that at the lunch rush, there is not a very comfortable place to wait for a table (may need to just give up and come back another day at high volume-o'clock).

I keep reading about the service here being terrible and the waitresses being rude. Were I different kind of person I probably would start this review out by saying how horribly we were treated... But we weren't.

I haven't had an outright bad experience with the waitstaff but sometimes I wonder how much you can chalk up to cultural differences. Although, Thailand is supposed to be the Land of Smiles, so it WOULD have been nice if the woman who took our order had actually smiled even once while greeting us. :) Still, I try not to wear my heart on my sleeve when trying out a restaurant as such for the first time.

My husband and I tried this place out while staying at the Hotel Lucia for my birthday - it's just a few blocks away.

He had the Yellow Curry w/chicken, which he thought was all right.

I had the specialty Peacock Curry w/tofu which was AMAZAZAZAZING and my husband WISHED he had ordered (the tofu is fried to golden crispy perfection!).

And we both split some very tasty chicken satay that came skewered with a yummy sweet peanut sauce to dip it in.

    I'm a fan!

The waitstaff weren't overly warm to us but they weren't rude, either. They did their job, kept our waters full and didn't pester us. I try not to expect anything more than that so those rare times when the service is excellent I don't take it completely for granted.

My teenaged son and I stumbled upon this place last weekend. It looked busy and had a great atmosphere so we decided to give it a try. We are both super picky eaters and he had never tried Thai food, so it was a risk.

I ordered the yellow curry, without meat or tofu, add peas. He ordered something with stir fried green beans. The waitress was super friendly and actually offered to make substitutions for us. The food was there in like two minutes! I tried both dishes and thought they were fantastic! My son's dish was beautiful. My son wasn't quite sure if he liked it. He said it was just really different. When waitress found out it was his first time trying Thai food she said that what he tried was something that typically only Thai people really like. She said something to another waitress there about how it was his first time trying Thai and they both decided he should have tried the Pad Thai and they actually made it for him to go, NO CHARGE, so that he could give that a try! WOW! I'm completely and totally impressed with this place! I don't think I've ever had such wonderful service.

Great choice for Thai near the Crystal Ballroom. Great atmosphere, friendly, attentive & knowledgeable service. Most importantly, the food was very good.  We had Tom Yum, Thai Peacock Curry & Mango Paradise. All were delicious, fresh, & just the right amount of spice (first 2 medium & last was 4 out of 4). Definitely recommend.

For the first time ever in Portland, we had a "stumble-upon" dinner. We were actually headed to one of our favorite places. Unplanned and unresearched in advance, we were walking past Thai Peacock when we decided we couldn't resist the aromas wafting out into the street.

Gosh, I'm sure glad we followed our noses. Inside, we were greeted by a small, nicely decorated and almost full dining area. We sat down and were greeted and served right away.

I ordered #52, the Ho Mak Talay. I had absolutely no idea what was in it, other than some sort of seafood. Hubs played it safe and ordered #57, the Thai BBQ Chicken.

My food came out a few minutes earlier than his. For a moment I stared a bit bewildered at what looked to be a large bowl of fish, shellfish and different vegetables swimming in a soupy curry.  But I loved it. It was soooooo different of a curry than I've ever had. The complexity of the flavors! First, a hint of licorice-like sweetness. Then, a bit of tang, followed by a slight burn of chili pepper. I'm just guessing at what went into the curry. There was a perfect amount of seafood and rice. When all the solid food was gone from my bowl, I couldn't resist slurping up the rest of the curry with a spoon.

The same can be said of Hub's BBQ sauce, which starts out sweet but morphs into a tangy-spicy bite at the end.

Their "Special Curry" is so addictive, I can see it being a perfect pairing with thin Jungle noodles. Can't wait to go try that dish!

I really love this place.  I'm a vegetarian who generally hates tofu, but they make it really tasty.

Unfortunately, we ordered the golden noodles the last time we were there.  It was more expensive than the basil fried rice we also ordered (with the amazing tofu) but it was basically fancy ramen.  The noodles were literally just ramen noodles, and it was really salty and bland.

Large portions (there will be leftovers), average pad thai, decent curry (I think it might be impossible for anyone to make a BAD curry, what with all that fatty coconut milk), middle-of-the-road prices. Dishes arrived at the table less than 5 minutes after ordering, which made us a little nervous. Thai Peacock has some insane competition in town, and they just don't quite make the cut. Satisfying for a quick work-day lunch; almost like the comforting feeling one gets from uber cheep n' dirty Chinese takeout.

I don't know what my table did to offend the waitress who helped us, but she was short, unhelpful, wouldn't take her sunglasses off, and on the rare moment that she did, glared at all of us.

This was among the worst service I've ever received, and I eat out for basically every meal of every day. Not recommended if you like to be treated like a decent human being.

The food is a bit above average, though. Nothing outstanding. But it's pretty good. Not good enough to get past being treated like that.

I've been to Thai Peacock twice over the past 2 years. I need to go there more often! it's a small restaurant off of Burnside and SW 9th.

The last trip that I made, I ended up getting my traditional Pad Kee-Mao dish. Excellent - I swear, I should become a Tom Yum Noodle Soup and Pad Kee-Mao Specialist! The appetizer that was chosen were the fresh salad rolls w/ peanut sauce- delicious! A friend of mine ended up getting the Pineapple Fried Rice dish and loved it. It had the perfect combination of sweet and spicy.

I know that others have tried their curry dishes - Musaman and Green Curry and say that they are to wonderful options as well. I would definitely give them a try if you haven't already. Since I'm working downtown for the time being, I may have to drop in for another bite one of these days!

This place used to be a regular feedin' hole for me, but not in the last few years. Apparently, I haven't missed a thing.  One slight request for something to be a wee less spicy than usual, and I end up with an entirely different dish.  I may have overlooked that if they would've just dropped the 'tude.

If this is how Thai food always was, I would be a huge fan. (I mean literally HUGE). I was cautious when I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, as that is usually a "safe" dish at a new Thai place. It was the best I have had. Not too hot, but wonderfully spicy and flavorful.

The service was quick, the wait staff were courteous and the food was fabulous. I'm not in Portland frequently, but I will likely return here when I can.

This is our second dinner at Portland... It was walking distance to our hotel and I was surprise how tasty the food was.

    This is what we ordered:

    # 6 Thai Salad Roll. $4.50  warm sauce
the roll was wrap loosely.  nothing special about the wrap, but i like they serve the dipping sauce warm.

#16. Kom Kah (coconut milk soup) w/ tofu $8
honest coconut milk soup, very creamy, sour and tasty... don't you just hate when you order the coconut milk soup and it comes out watery?   hey, it won't be the problem here.

    # 36. Pineapple curry w/ chicken $9.50
Perfect. in fact I have been tried to recreate this dish since I came home from Portland.

    #68. Pad Eke-Mao (drunken noodles).  $9.50.
we ordered it extra spicy, so it was too spicy for me.  I can only judge it from the presentation and It looked really yummy; all the fresh the ingredients perfectly mingle together.  My bf loves it, yes, he is a spicy monster.

Our bill came out to be $33. good deal!   wish we have more good Thai food restaurant  in Bay area like this one.

    Service: Their  waitress  seems irritated.

For me, Thai Peacock gets 5-stars for their won ton soup alone!  I'm no connoisseur of won ton soup (or any soup, really), but I don't care, this is the only soup I ever crave, so it earns these stars for the peacock.

Other won ton soups can be bland with just plain chicken broth, some soggy won tons and a few leaves of cabbage.  This won ton soup is the antithesis of that yuckiness.  The chicken broth is rich in flavor with spices that I can't identify, but that my taste buds love.  The won tons are filled with an amazing ground chicken based filling that tastes amazing without any kind of dipping sauce.  This soup is different every time I've had it because they fill it with all kinds of fresh veggies.  I've had it with crisp tender bean sprouts, all sorts of yummy greens, sprigs of cilantro, carrots, daikon (I think) and even peas.  I love that it warms me up and is so delicious!

I find that this yummy concoction is the perfect comfort food for whatever ails me - illness, winter chill, the doldrums.  They wrap it well to go so it makes the perfect gift for any friend who feels under the weather.  I find it odd that this is the soup I crave to make me feel better because usually the best part of soup for me is the crackers for dipping.

Their won tons taste great fried, too, which I found out recently!  They might taste even better this way than in the soup.  The fried crispy texture really adds to the delicious filling and the dipping sauce is the perfect compliment to these little packets of deliciousness!  I could've eaten the entire order by myself (there were 6 or 7), but I'm glad I got to share them with my dining companions.  The deep fried version of the won tons is just icing on the 5-star cake here!

I also like their noodles and entrees.  I like that you can order each dish to your personal spiciness level preference.  But, really I'm just thinking of the won tons, so I'll let you read everyone else's reviews to find out about the other food.

Everything I've had here from Pad Se Ew to the Spicy Garlic has been yummy, but what keeps Thai Peacock on mind and will keep my feet wandering through their door, whether in their delicious soup or deep fried, is their won tons!

    Oh my, I'm getting old....

I swear that I wrote a review about Thai Peacock before considering I've been here more than five fingers can count. I love Thai Peacock. It's hard to get delicious Thai in downtown Portland after all Thai carts closed down for the day. My best bet and it will be your best bet, is to walk to Thai Peacock.

I love love love love love love the Mango Curry. I had it with pork, beef, chicken, and even tofu. In all of those occasions, the Mango Curry delivered satisfying performances. I also always order my curry HOT. If I'm not sweating while I'm eating it, there's something wrong with it.

Besides the Mango Curry, I also love their Pad Kee Mao or Pad Se Eew. They have smokey flavors to them. For appetizers I love their salad rolls and their fried wontons. The fried wontons reminded me of fried Wontons that I could get in Jakarta at a noodle shop there.

Service is always good here. Sometimes they are understaffed, so the service is a bit slow, but really is not servers fault.

I'm thankful for Thai Peacock to be in downtown Portland. Without Thai Peacock, pretty much at night, downtown is graveyard for Thai Food.

Wanted to check this place out cause of all the good reviews, but had a bad experience:
    - Service: showed up at 9 and were rushed along the whole time even though when I asked they said they stop seating at 930..  Asked if we were ready to order about every 3 minutes, not a smile the entire time.
-Food: #60 ginger scallop smelled like a restroom cleaning product (yes, really) and wasn't tasty either.  Tomyum soup was excessively sweet.  One positive - Panang curry with beef was pretty good.

Not good, not bad. I've tried a lot of Thai places in Portland and it takes a lot to impress me. I asked for extra spicy pad thai and it was very bland, so I can't imagine how the regular would be. The server seemed disinterested and it felt a bit crowded in there. All that being said, there was nothing horrible or wrong with this place.

Ok, when I walked out of this restaurant tonight, I hate to admit, but my feelings were literally hurt by how rude the server was.  After reading the reviews above, I know it was not just us.

My friend and I arrived at 9:35pm.  I know it was late, so I specifically asked, "Do we have time to eat."  They said yes and put us at a table.
After that, they rushed us to order, which we did.  I understand they're about to close.  But BEFORE it even got to 10, the ladies were being rude, coarse and hasty.  They shut down the music, put out all the candles, dropped our check... all BEFORE 10 .... and ALL with a huge attitude.

If they wanted us to leave by 9:45, they should not have seated us.  My goodness!

Never, and I mean NEVER, have I ever had service like this.

At the end, after everything, I still felt bad that the lady was waiting, so I asked for a box to take the food home (so THEY could go home faster!!) But attitude about that too.

It was about 10:15, and I had my food boxed and my friend was finishing her last two bites.  Literally, her plate was empty.  The lady came and said, "Here's a bag for you then please leave.  I have to go home.  I don't get paid past 10 o'clock."  Again then don't seat us at 9:35!!

I've worked in food service.  If you seat someone at 9:30, you give them til 10:15.  It's a given.

At the end, when she mentioned about the 10 o'clock business,  I let her know that they had been rude since well before 10 o'clock and that this was the rudest service I had ever encountered.  And, by far, it was.

Sadly, food and ambiance were good.

The Tam Kah (coconut based soup) was delicious and well spiced.

The Evil Jungle Noodles were okay. I don't especially like the sauce they use for it, but it was interesting.

My waitress was friendly enough, and the food came out fast, but I ate around 5:30 PM and there were only a few other customers. it seems to me that many of the customers complaining of terrible service ate there  later than i did (around 9 PM).

Small, affordable place, food is ok,  service is ok.
Nothing extraordinary to have to drive all the way to downtown - there are much better thai places here in HIllsboro.

I've been to this place at least 3 times now since all the reviews say they're so good and I kept feeling like I was probably ordering the wrong dishes. But after trying out a different dish all 3 times, I stand by what I mentioned above - I've had better thai food here and there's no reason to drive all the way just to eat here.

I have passed this place up a couple of times on my ventures downtown. Finally, with a couple of friends....I had lunch their. I love how this place is decorated and the vibe of the atmosphere. The food is nothing special than your basic thai that you can get at any other thai place. I will be returning soon and bringing my boyfriend along. I think he will dig it!

My friend and I tried to get a table at Pok Pok on a Friday night and found the wait time was longer than an hour.  We didn't have the time to wait so she suggested we go to Thai Peacock.  I am so grateful for her suggestion for here we found thai food of the same caliber as Pok Pok but without the wait.  The ambiance is a little more of the "mom and pop" variety, but what matters to me most is the quality of the food a restaurant serves.

Thai Peacock's green papaya salad was absolutely delicious!  It had a great zip to it that was countered by the perfect amount of heat.  We also tried the deep fried Tilapia and the Pineapple Curry.  Both were done very well.  Portion size was large and we went home with plenty of leftovers to enjoy the next day.  Overall, the food was fresh and fantastic, and the prices were more than fair.  What's not to love?

Now that I've tried Thai Peacock it's going to be hard to get me to go back to Pok Pok...especially on a weekend!

Today I decided to try eating here and had the Pad Ke Mao, which I am very picky about. I can honestly say that, while I have had this dish served well before, I don't think I have ever had it taste this delicious. They were very generous with the chicken, the noodles were *perfect*, it was just spicy enough that it made my nose run (lol) but not so spicy that I couldn't taste the basil, and the egg was absolutely perfectly cooked.

My partner wasn't very hungry, so ordered an appetiser of (5) pot stickers which were crispy and bubbly and steaming. Unfortunately I can not eat wheat, but he said they were delicious and the dipping sauce was divine.

We'll definitely be heading back here again when the closer place just won't satisfy.

Why does this place smell like a bad car air freshener? It smells like roses and chemicals.
My Thai espresso was great, but then I made the mistake of ordering their specialty, Thai BBQ Chicken. There was no bbq on it, just plain roasted chicken with a side of fish sauce, a little mound of rice and a salad that was one large leaf, 3 pieces of pineapple, a tomato and two cucumber slices.
The chicken was somewhat dry, and definitely tasteless, unless I put the fish sauce on it, which was just plain fish sauce. Weird.
Also, the waitstaff was unfriendly, really didn't care whether we were there or not, and rushed our table.

I love this place! It's perfect for dates, nights out with your girls, I've seen a cadre of hipster gentlemen many times, take your grammy here for a bonding moment, etc.

Evil Jungle Noodles, Salad Rolls, and the Wanton Soup are really delicious.

The service gets a lot friendlier the more times you go in. Yum yum yum.

When I ask for Pad Thai with no meat, that specification should mean no cockroaches.  Silly me.

    Never. Again.

I walked around the block looking at the carts, but I really didn't feel like eating in the cold, holding my food on the sidewalk.  So I walked down and dropped into Thai Peacock.  I've eaten here a few times over the passed couple of decades, but it's been a long time, so in I go to give it another try.

The place is small and very crowded - a good sign.  It's so crowded, as a matter of fact, that they are moving and rearranging people to squeeze the standing room only crowd into a seat.  I sat at the counter with another guy, who'd been rearranged himself. - I did not get rearranged.

The menus has a nice selection of curries, noodles and salads.  I ordered the Pad Thai and it was simply wonderful.  The service was efficient and friendly.  I'll definitely return.

This was my first time to the Thai Peacock and the food was great. I highly recommend the spring rolls, and drunken noodles. While the space is small, it has a nice atmosphere for small groups.

This is the best thai food I have found in Oregon, and I plan on going back for more.

You know what Portland needs? Another Thai restaurant or food cart don't you think? No no. Just kidding. The "problem" is that we already have a 1000. So how do you find the "good" ones? You try them all. This is one of my favorites. Average lunch price is $7. Perfect portions. This is better than E-San right down the street. Much better in fact. About a buck or two cheaper than their menu and pretty much the same items. Worth the extra few blocks you're going to walk. I will say this place is however fairly small and gets completely packed during lunch. Completely. I'd say keep it to 6 people or less. Preferably 2.
