My friend introduced me to Thai Mai. Him & his wife, Giao Nguyen, were great to work with. Thai was our photographer for our wedding in September of 2010. His wife did my hair & makeup for our engagement session & wedding day. It was great to have a photography, hair, & makeup package all in one. :)
Thai had a quick turn around after taking our save the date, engagement, & wedding pictures. We also had a special request to take our engagement pictures at the Cupertino library. It was tough to schedule a time that worked for all of us including with when the library would allow us to take pictures, but Thai was very accommodating to our request. -

My husband and I first came across Thai's work in December, 2008 when he did an e-session for one of our good friends. We were very impressed with his creativity and artistic talent and have been a fan of his work ever since. He has a blog which shows some amazing shots he has taken over the years. We first met him personally when he did our friend's wedding in August, 2009. He was so easy to work with and even made my husband comfortable enough to bring out a natural smile, which is a very hard task to do! When we saw some teasers of our friend's wedding, we were convinced that we had to have him as our wedding photographer. He was even the first vendor we booked, almost two whole years before our actual wedding...
And Thai did not disappoint. He was very flexible in working with our schedule to do our e-session. We were both going to school in Southern California at the time so we had a limited amount of time to fly up to do it. Also, Thai's lovely wife, Giao, did my hair and makeup and did a fabulous job! It was raining off and on during our e-session, but Thai worked with the elements like a pro. He had us use an umbrella as a prop which was a nice touch. We requested that Thai take some pictures at the location where my husband proposed as well as Stanford University because we had seen some of his work at that location. In between locations, we made a pit stop at my husband's house to change cars and Thai was inspired by a set of train tracks nearby. So on the way back out, he took us to take some shots on the tracks. He even laid down on the ground and on tracks to get awesome angles. The train tracks pictures turned out to be some of our favorites! It just shows what a talented artist Thai is as he came up with this on the fly. Overall, we were very pleased with the quality of the e-pics and couldn't wait for him to capture images on our wedding day.
Thai, his wife Giao, and Thai's assistant traveled down to Southern California to do our wedding which was great. Giao again did my hair and makeup and did a stunning job. Thai and his assistant arrived on time and were very efficient in taking a variety of shots such as getting ready, portraits, and detail shots. We had a couple of locations in mind of where to take pictures with our wedding party before the ceremony. Thai even scouted out the locations the day before the wedding which made the session fun very smoothly. Thai and his team were again very easy to work with and brought out my husband's natural smile again. They captured every important moment of the day and more and we will cherish those memories he captured forever. We were thrilled with the results and are SOOOO HAPPY with our decision to hire him over two years ago. We recommend Thai to anyone who is looking for a photographer who is professional, easy to work with, and has an amazing artistic eye for quality photos. Thanks for everything Thai!!! -

This review is long over due. I hired Thai to be my photographer last year for my wedding. After researching on my computer for weeks, Thai's work caught my eye. I loved his photojournalistic style and the wonderful reviews he received from his clients. After meeting him for a consultation, I knew he was the one I needed to hire to photograph my special day. He is very professional, easy to work with and punctual. On the day of the wedding, he brought two assistants to help out and they were both awesome as well. My engagement and wedding photos turned out great. I got my wedding photos on a dvd pretty quick, but the album took a little longer. It was well worth the wait, because the album was gorgeous.
I also hired his beautiful wife, Giao Nguyen, to do my make-up and hair on the day of my wedding. She is sooooo good at what she does. She gave me a natural look for my wedding and made me look like a million bucks.
Thank you Thai and Giao for everything! You guys are soooooooo awesome and such a great team. I don't know what I would have done without you guys being apart of my wedding. Thank you for making my wedding day perfect! -

I found out about Thai Mai Photography through my brother-in-law who hired him to shoot his wedding.
I actually got married in Southern California, and I was very unhappy about my wedding photographer. Since I wanted quality pictures, I decided to do an "aftershoot" with my wedding dress.
Needless to say, I was VERY HAPPY with the results!! Giao Nguyen Makeup Artistry did my hair and makeup and made me look like a movie star, and Thai knew how to capture San Francisco cityscapes and what we wanted.
REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE THAI MAI PHOTOGRAPHY:
1. My family and friends think that the pictures he takes belong in a magazine! He artistically edits the images to make it look very professional.
2. He knows which SF locations to shoot at and poses us very well. Everyone thought that we looked very natural in all of the pictures.
3. He is a great person to work with! He will make you laugh and act natural. :) -

Thai Mai, I can't express how greatful I was to have him and his wife present at our wedding in TEXAS! He was a pleasure to work with. We flew to SJ for our E-Session and the following year we flew him and his wife to Houston for our wedding day. Our pictures turned out magnificent and breath taking Giao did my hair and make up and it was flawless. Everyone loved it and we got so much comments on them. I knew from the start when I saw his work on someone else's profile that I had to book him, and sure enough I did without hesitating and when we saw the results we were more than pleased. Worth the price and quality with a great personality!
Thanks Thai and Giao for making our day memorable and special!

I have pictures that I can frame!!! And its all because of Thai.
Thai did our aftershoot (detail and portraits) and my husband and I are so happy with the results. We decided to do an aftershoot because our wedding photographer did not deliver the same results on the wedding day - a day you cannot redo.
Thai artistically captured every single image - from rings to portraits.
We really appreciate that Thai took our suggestions into consideration. For example, we wanted outdoor portraits that were natureish/modern so Thai went out driving that morning (before our session) to explore places that fit the look. While he did this, he noticed that gray clouds were moving in fast and called us to let us know that we would be heading into some rain and suggested that we move out the shoot due to weather. This is what we call an awesome photographer who cares about his client getting the pictures they want - not one who wanted to get the photoshoot done and over with like our original photographer. We ended up doing the shoot indoors - which Fairmont served as a fabulous backdrop.
Thai is the man to capture your beautiful day that will last a lifetime.
Thanks Thai!!Listed in: Wedding Vendors

I had my e-session 7/20/09 and was very very satisfied! I traveled all the way from Austin, TX to have my photos taken by Thai Mai. Thai is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I cannot tell you enough how great he was to work with! Actually, he and Giao did all the work and I did nothing, lol!
I originally contacted Thai back in January 2009 to inquire about services for my September 2009 wedding. I had seen photos of Thai's work through a friend and was truly amazed and mesmerized by his talent. Thai and Giao are a husband and wife duo - Thai is the photographer, Giao, is his associate photographer. She's also a hair and makeup artist and she makes custom bridal hair pieces as well! If you decide to go with Thai Mai Photography, several of the packages includes a hair and makeup trial (to prepare for the big day) with Giao, engagement photos and wedding day photos...ALL this for an EXCELLENT STEAL!
Before I contacted Thai, I already had my heart set on having him photograph my wedding, but I just wanted to make sure I could afford his services. Listen up brides - Thai and Giao are worth EVERY PENNY!!!! Your search should end here because they are AMAZING. I cannot say it enough times, really! If anything, I believe their prices are too low (good for me since I'm the paying bride, bad for them since they're the ones doing all the work!) TRUST ME, you will not be disappointed. Giao has a creative eye - she comes up with CRAZY but definitely AMAZING ideas. Thai and Giao really complement each other!!! They are so easy to talk to and work with and they listen to what you want.
I did everything backwards! I eloped on 8/8/08 but never had a reception or celebration. So my big day was September 26, 2009. Every couple needs to have engagement photos!!! So I had to fit that in somewhere too! Lol
Well my hubby and I had had a great time! We were a little nervous at first...I'm not photogenic so I was worried the photos would turn out bad. but Giao made me a beautiful bride and both Giao and Thai took great photos!!! We had so much fun..9 hours of fun to be exact. Yes, NINE hours...I'm sure Thai and Giao were exhausted but they wanted us to be happy :-) Let's just say the night ended at 10pm...
My sister who is an amateur photographer tagged along for the shoot and captured many shots of us thanks to the helpful tips she received from Thai and Giao. Please check them out and see for yourself the wonderful job that Giao did on my hair and makeup! I've already told Thai and Giao that I'm booking them for my future pregnancy photos and family portraits! No, no, no - this is not a shot gun wedding, lol! We're not planning to have kids anytime soon, but when we do, I'll be calling up Thai and Giao for sure!
Like I said, they are AN AMAZING, WONDERFUL, CREATIVE husband and wife team!!! WORTH EVERY PENNY! I can't say enough good things about them! My husband and I are 1000% satisfied with our decision :-) I'm a stickler when it comes to service - I can be really anal with regards to my expectations, but i truly cannot think of one negative thing to say about Thai and Giao. If I could give 10 stars, I would! I will gladly recommend Thai and Giao's services to all of my friends and family...in fact, I already have! I hope all you brides reading this will give them the opportunity to make your big day a special and memorable one. Don't take my word for it (actually, please take my word for it) but do see for yourself! Contact them today! Trust me, you won't be disappointed :-)
If any brides would like to contact me with questions, please feel free to do so!
Check out Giao's site: http://www.giaonguyen.com for hair, makeup and custom bridal hair pieces!

Best of luck to all the brides!

Just had my wedding on 9/26/09 and let's just say that Thai did it again! More AMAZING photos! Thai totally captured the laughter and happiness at my reception. I love all the candid shots! When I first went to his website, my jaw dropped. The vibrant colors, the style, and the way he captured the couples was just breathtaking. Log onto his blog, and you'll see what i'm talking about.
Thai's prices are extremely fair. He will deliver a product that will blow other photographers out of the water (and they are charging double).
Thai knew how to direct us with each shot so that he could capture the most intimate moments. We used Thai for our E-session in Sonoma, and throughout the whole 3 hours, I kept thinking how easy Thai made it for us, it was comfortable and fun!
Although we have only seen some "teasers", they are absolutely phenomenal. -

I have to echo everything already stated here,
Thai has a great personality to go along with excellent photography skills. Simply the best photographer you'll ever meet. He's got talent for seeing different poses, angles that really make your photo unique and unforgettable.
My fiancé and I had the opportunity to work with Thai on our engagement session in San Francisco recently. I must admit, the both of us were nervous about being in front of the camera but Thai managed to make us feel at ease with his cool, calm and gregarious personality.
Thai far exceeded our expectations and we'd recommend him to anyone getting married. His hard work and love for photography is clearly evident. He has a real gift as a photographer.
On top of all that, his fee is beyond reasonable, especially considering what he's offering in the wedding packages. I can't say enough great things about Thai. Both him and his wife (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) were an absolute pleasure to work with. -

One word - Genius.
Thai was just born with an amazing eye that few photographers have. As i learned the hard way, just because a "photographer" has a fancy site and state-of-the art equipment, doesn't make them take good pictures...i wish i had known Thai back when i got married as I would have hired him in a heartbeat. The photographer i hired back then was one of the biggest regrets of my life. Being that your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, it really bites when your photographer has done a less than mediocre job and very sad when your guests, with their point & shoot cameras come up with better pics than your pricey "photographer".
Anyways, my husband and i recently hired Thai to do a 3-year-later aftershoot (sort of like Thai's e-sessions), and i also snuck in a mini trash-the-dress. My husband, who's not a picture-guy, was totally at ease with Thai. You just feel very comfortable with Thai; he has such a cool vibe. I LOVE the moments that Thai captured and finally feel like my husband and i have pictures we can look back on and be proud of. he just simply captured "us".
Thai has also shot the weddings of some of my closest friends. he has a knack for capturing the special moments/details in a way that makes you feel the emotions of the couples in his pictures. They are truly special and you'd understand what i mean by looking at his blog. i've gotten teary eyed looking at his slideshows for goodness' sake!
On top of it all, Thai is just a great guy; he's a family man, great husband, dad and friend. He's a true talent . Also, his wife Giao is also amazingly talented in hair/makeup and photography. They are the go-to duo! what a team!
I look forward to future sessions with Thai (pregnancy and family) as he's become our go-to photographer. i can't say enough about him! he's a Genius!! -

Searching for a wedding photographer may be one of the most important tasks of the planning process. A wedding photographer must be easy to work with, be able to capture the natural emotions in their work, and must be passionate about what they do. Fortunately, Thai is all of these things!
Thai is extremely enthusiastic and is insistent on capturing the best quality of work for his clients. If you look on his website and blog, you can see for yourself the high quality of work and love that he puts into all of his photos. He is able to capture the fleeting moments that would otherwise be missed, so you can remember them for the rest of your life.
His personality is incredibly easy-going and any couple would be immediately put at ease, laughing and having fun with him. His prices are very reasonable as well for the budget saavy bride, compared to other wedding photographers who are only looking to take advantage of the wedding industry.
So if you are a bride or groom that is looking for a photographer that is wiling to go above and beyond to capture all those special moments in your wedding day to tell your story, book Thai! You will not regret it...we didn't! -

Thai has a genuine passion in what he does and captures "moments" from couples in photos that you didn't think was possible. A simple kiss on the nose can make a Bride-to-be tear, a whisper in someones ear can make them smile so BIG, and the way couples look at one another, you can see their love instantly in Thai's pictures! After seeing his work and hearing so much about him, we decided to schedule an E-Session with Thai!
For our 1st time taking professional pictures, we had a blast working with Thai! My fiance and I were both comfortable in front of the camera and loved every moment in the spotlight!
His work is truly breathtaking! He is creative, outgoing, and his work is just, AMAZING! We look forward to working with Thai at our Wedding come this December! Book Thai now! -

Any couple who books Thai for their special day will not find an unhappy result. Like all the other couples have said, Thai's price and product is extremely competitive- probably one that puts many other photographers to shame.
If you check out his blog, you will find an abundance in style, creativity, class, and color. He is more than willing to take as much time as you need, and strives for excellence with his work.
Another plus is the incredible turn around time. Many wedding photographers will take months to edit and send couples proofs. Thai has never failed in producing a product and delivering it with his special touch.
You won't be disappointed! -
Review from Walter P.
First and foremost, I am very disappointed that the owner, Thai Mai, did not want to work out an alternative solution with my $750.00 deposit. As most of you already know my engagement ended last December 2009 (that's an another story), so the last two months I've been working with all my wedding vendors to get some sort of refund or alternative solution. Thai Mai was not willing to renegotiate the agreement contract. Instead, he made me feel like it's a done deal... "You signed the contract... you paid me my money.... You're not getting married anymore...... tough luck.... Deal with it...Walter P." This was very disappointing... here's why:
Since I'm not getting married anymore, I wanted to re-direct the wedding deposit ($750.00) towards a photo shoot of my newly born godson (he was born last December 2009). This would have made a great present and worth my money. Of course, I didn't want my $750.00 to go to waste. I tried two times (twice) to get Thai Mai to consider and work towards a beneficial agreement. Unfortunately, I discovered how cold hearted he was and not seem to care. So here you go Thai Mai..... you get ZERO STARS from Walter P. ZERO !!! Thank you for making me feel like shit. You tell us your willing to help people and make their moment enjoyable. Well, I guess I'll let karma take care of you buddy!
Important Notes to Consider before calling Thai Mai:
- This was my ex-fiancee's choice of vendor. I already had three other photographers in mind but I gave in because I wanted my bride-to-be to be happy. If it was up to me, Thai Mai would have never made the cut. He takes good pictures, but as a business man... he's really PUSHY to get his deposit and monies fast. Once he gets paid, it's very hard to get in contact with him. I DON'T WORK WITH VENDORS THAT PUSH ME AROUND! He was nice in the beginning... then gets very defensive in the end. Typical salesman attitude!!!
- He works from his home....that's he "so called" studio. Uh..... no thank you for referrals buddy. I'm not send any of my personal friends your way. Again, you were my ex's choice.... Not mine!
- Don't ever fall for the " I have another couple wanting to book the same wedding date " statement. I've been down that road many times, and 100% of the time..the bride seems to always fall for it. In this case, the ex did the shopping.... I WROTE THE CHECK! Yes... read it one more time.... SHE DID THE SHOPPING.... I WROTE THE BEAUTIFUL WONDERFUL CASH MONEY MAKE IT RAIN PUT THE DOLLA IN THE POCKET CHECK!!! Shop for at least ten professional photographers before hand. Feel free to private message me, I can give you a list of awesome photographers that are willing to work on your event (all pre-screened by my standards.... Especially if something happens...they can work on getting other alternatives for you so you get your monies worth). -
Review from Margo G.
One of the biggest decisions during the wedding planning process is choosing a photographer. Don't forget these are pictures that are going to last forever! After all the planning and money spent on one day, you want to make sure the photos reflect what's important. Not just pictures and moments, but also the emotion behind them. We couldn't have made a better decision than picking Thai Mai as our photographer for our November 2009 wedding.
Upon our initial meeting, Thai had a professional and friendly attitude. He also had great pictures. He has an eye for capturing a couple in their truest form. He hadn't done that many weddings when we met with him but he was quickly filling up his schedule. He was the photographer for a friend's wedding and when we saw her pictures, it sealed the deal. We booked him and Giao (his wife and 2nd photographer) and knew that we were going to have good pictures. We met once before the wedding just to talk about what we envisioned for our pictures, what was important for us and any special shots that we wanted to make sure he captured.
The day of the wedding, Thai was on time and unobtrusive and got some of fantastic shots. Though our ceremony location had some limitations on where he could shoot from, he had no issues and just worked around it. During our portraits, he would listen to us, make us laugh and really put us at ease. The hubby and I are hams and Thai just clicked away even when we were being dorky. Those dorky moments are some of our favorite shots! He really captured 'us.' At the reception, we hardly noticed he was there. He just blended in with the guests and was able to get great moments filled with emotion. We've gotten great comments about how easy he was to work with and how great he and Giao vibed with everyone. He didn't have any issues capturing a fun Latin fiesta! We not only got good pictures, we got GREAT pictures! When we saw the teasers, I got teary eyed. When we saw the slideshow, I cried. When we got all the proofs back, forget it, waterworks galore! We could not be happier with the results. We laughed, we cried, we were shocked at how much he captured and we were thrilled with his work. I would highly recommend Thai and Giao to anyone looking for a photographer. I'm already looking forward to him capturing more moments as our lives progress.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

First, a little bit about myself... when it comes to research and just about anything with art, I'm very meticulous and thorough. So I hope this review helps... plus I never post anything on Yelp, so that carries a little bit of weight :D

We had the pleasure of working with Thai for our first wedding in January. Unfortunately, he was already booked for our second wedding this summer. We chose him because he has a unique eye for composition and color. All of his pictures really pop and capture the moment.
He did a great job of photographing not only us, our bridal party, but also many of our guests. He also made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera and taught us how to pose naturally.
We really enjoy looking at our pictures over and over again, and always get compliments.
Thai was very professional and responsive in communication. And he's definitely one to watch for in the future.
Feel free to view our pics on his blog. PIctures speak louder than words!

Throughout the course of my engagement and wedding prep, Thai was more than just our photographer. He became our friend. From our first meeting until today, Thai has been friendly, professional, honest and fun. It felt as if we had a friend shooting our engagement and wedding pics. His creativity, sometimes on the fly, is impressive. We had to rethink some of our engagement picture locations at the last minute due to weather and Thai was able to transform a simple neighborhood park into a completely picturesque setting. My wife and I couldn't have been any happier when we finally saw the finished products of both our engagement and wedding pictures. We have beautiful images capturing every moment of the most important day of our life together. Thanks Thai for everything!

When we first me Thai Mai and Giao we immediately hit it off. They were were friendly and knew exactly what we wanted. Our first Engagement session went very well and we visited a couple locations over the two days of shooting. He definitely knows how to make you laugh and feel comfortable. His prices are very reasonable for the quality of work he produces. We think Thai does a fantastic job at engagement photos and we were very pleased with his results. He even turned around our teasers quickly. When it came time for our wedding he did a wonderful job. He captured many great moments that we love to look at over and over. He works very hard and certainly will get you the results you want. I would highly recommend Thai Mai for anyone looking to get their Engagement Session and Wedding photographed.

My husband and I really enjoyed working with Thai on our wedding day and for our engagement shoot. His prices were extremely reasonable and we opted for the full day package. We didn't really plan out at all where we wanted to do portraits, bridal party shots, or group photos at all - but Thai took the time to come early and scope out the venue and hotel for some great shots. He planned it all out for us! I was definitely grateful - the day was stress free and a lot of fun. It was a really cold day, and he would even have me wear a shawl only to remove it at the last minute for shots - so considerate! He and Giao were definitely a lot of fun to be around and great to spend the day with.
We didn't feel pressured at all to book with him - quite the opposite actually. We felt like he was very kind and gave us plenty of time to decide. The pictures turned out great. He sent us teasers to look at really quickly and the rest of the pics about a month and a half after the wedding. I am very happy with our pictures. They are all really beautiful.
He and his wife Giao are a great team! We'll definitely be calling them again for family portraits in the future. -

After looking at Thai Mai's blog, we were so impressed with his photos. Thai's style was exactly what we were looking for in a wedding photographer. Unfortunately, Thai wasn't available for our upcoming June wedding so we did the next best thing and had him take our engagement photos. The moment we met Thai for the engagement session, he immediately made us feel at ease as my fiance and I were both shy and uncomfortable about taking pictures. We received our engagement pictures shortly after the session and were so pleased with how the photos turned out. The photos looked very natural and all our friends commented that they looked like they came out of a magazine (as many other reviews have stated). He is truly talented!

Alright people.....if you are looking for a photographer for any occasion (weddings, engagement, anniversary, birthday, family.....), Thai is the person to go for. He is simply the best. I mean " just awesome".
The images he captures are amazingly pretty.
Me and my husband got our photo shoot done from him and not only does he go to great lengths to make you feel comfortable, he also chooses the most beautiful locations.
I will highly suggest to everyone who needs to get a photo shoot done in the near or distant future, choose Thai and you will end up rewarding yourself with amazing pictures.
His prices are the best in the area as well...real value for the money.
Plus once you choose him, you can be rest assured that he will make you look beautiful......You'll end up looking at the pictures a zillion times since they end up being so breathtakingly pretty. -

Thai Mai is definitely one of my favorite photographers. My cousin used him and his wife for her wedding and the pictures were just stunning. I love how classy his photography is. The poses are natural and alot of his shots really capture the moment in a beautiful way. If you can feel the romance through a picture, that's truly a talent. I agree with the other reviews's Thai definitely has an eye for art. Thai also is very responsive upon contact which is great whereas I'm starting to plan my own wedding. I highly recommend his work. Check out his website, you will be impressed!

My now husband and I had the pleasure of having Thai and his wife Giao take our engagement pictures back in May. Gosh I don't even know where to begin on all the reasons why he is the photographer to go to for portraits... They are an extremely talented team!
For me, what made us hire Thai was seeing all his talent on his blog. Before we hired him I came across his blog as he had done a friend's session. After seeing it I began stalking his blog (LOL) as every shoot continued to amaze me. With the wedding planning we weren't even planning on taking e-pics but after seeing his work we just had to have 'him' do our shoot. And boy were we glad we did! Meeting with him, we instantly felt at ease like we had known him for a while. He asked for ideas of what we wanted and he took it from there, making us feel comfortable all the way. He and Giao spent an unbelievable amount of time with us to make sure we got what we wanted. We traveled to a couple of locations over several hours. By the end of the day we were tired and they were still moving along with excitement. I don't know how they do it but their hard work paid off as the end result was beyond our expectations.
The images, moments, emotions, colors captured in every shot left us awe struck. Not to mention the cost for his service, he is very fairly priced for the what you get. The hours, number of images and the end result are absolutely worth every cent spent.
I continue to see his talent grow as I lurk into his blog every so often, he keeps getting better and better. For those looking for a great photographer - you can't go wrong.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss
