this was the closest asian restaurant to my friend's house.  we ordered carry out and when we got there, it wasn't ready.  had to wait about another 10 minutes before the order was complete.  while we waited, we were offered drinks by the cashier which was kind of nice.

we ordered the fried shrimp, seafood red curry, sour soup and spring rolls.  everything tasted ok.  i didnt' expect much from this place and it was close by.  i'm only giving it 3 stars because i've had better thai food and know that it could be better.  i thought all the flavors of each dish was kind of bland.  may give it another shot next time i visit georgia.

Under new ownership!  I am so disappointed. Well, the jury is still out, but my first visit left a lot to be desired. Admittedly, it was only lunch, but a good restaurant pays as much attention to lunch as dinner.
I ordered my favorite, Num Tok. My first impression was good. The cabbage was freshly washed, a good sign. But the way it was cut left a rib in every piece which makes it hard to wrap around the meat.
The meat was soggy and gray. I figured out what the previous owner did that none of the other restaurants do. He marinated, grilled and then cut the meat. The gray and soggy places cut the meat first and then sauté it in the sauce. The sauce was not acidic enough and was carried primarily by the pepper and not the onions and basil.
Also, the cup of soup and bowl of rice are now extras and not included.
Stay posted, I will give it at least two more chances, but that's it.

    Song, come back.

This is the last review I'm writing until I have something nice to say.

    The food here - eh.

We didn't get our soup.  The "spicy sauce" in my Oceans Seafood dish had no spice in it whatsoever.  I think the best thing I tasted was the bite of mango I stole off of my dining companion's plate of mango sticky rice.  He devoured it.  He devoured everything, in fact.  Me - not impressed.

Oh wait - nice things!!  Service & price were EXCELLENT here!

Other reviews here pretty much sum up what I'm about to say but I thought I would warn you guys anyway. Our family had dinner here last night and had a terrible experience. Staff was unorganized/scattered and not synchronized with our needs at the table throughout. Soups served for the app were on-par but not outstanding. Entrees served and the rice noodles were tough/not edible in both Pad Thai dishes we ordered. Chicken in one of the Pad Thai dishes tasted "left over". The curry dish was good but did not last while we waited on our re-order to replace the under cooked Pad Thai. While we're waiting without anything else to eat the staff never apologized for the inconvenience and said that the noodles are supposed to be that way; "ok then!"  . For the grand finale, Thai Lotus decided to go for an all-out battle and charge us for one of the Pad Thai dishes that we could not even stand to finish. We were pleasant to the staff throughout the dinner despite the lackluster service and food - and paid for that Pad Thai's so they wouldn't release the Ninja's on us! They just had a bad night I guess?

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I went here with some friends from out of town and they were craving for Thai food but didn't want to go too far. We gave this place a try since it's down the street from where they were staying. Their food is horrible! Pad Thai was extremely sour and everything else was just bland.

I should've tried the coconut cake that people were raving about, but I lost my appetite during the meal :(

Only stopped here for lunch.   In general I do not like to review places after only one experience but in this case I will, since there will not be a 2nd.

Had Penang Curry with Beef.    To their credit the staff is Thai.   The decor is Thai.    But no that does not buy you 4 or 5 stars in and that of itself.

Penang was very basic and bland, beef was chewy and lacked flavor.     Thai Lotus you are my third "Thai" date in Gwinnett.   You are also my third disappointment.

Dear Thai Lotus, you get a star for good service and resonable prices.     That said please, please make Thai food not American Thai food.

GET THE COCONUT CAKE! The cake is a must! We ordered one slice, but had to order another one bc it was so good! The frosting was light and not very sweet and the cake itself was very moist. It just melts in your mouth. The serving size is also generous. They also sell the whole cake for $40 and the waitress said it is a pretty big sized cake. The owner makes the cakes. The slice was $4.

On to the review... I met some girlfriends here tonight for dinner. I've been here a couple of times before and thought the food was okay. We ordered the spring rolls ($3.95) fried and the basil rolls. The fried were okay, but the sauce taste weird. They also taste store bought.  The basil rolls were not good at all! First of all they served us one of the rolls that was torn and you could see everything inside it. I was like WTH? Something like that should not be served! They didn't taste fresh, but old with no flavor and no basil.  The roll was horrible!

I ordered the green curry ($8.95). It was okay. My friend ordered massaman curry ($8.95) and her bowl was filled to the top where as mine was filled half way. She even mentioned it to me. We both wanted brown rice which was $1 extra.

Service was not very friendly.  Waitresses didn't smile much and we felt like they were talking about us just bc my friend had a baby. He did get a little fussy, but it only lasted a couple of minutes and it wasn't like a loud cry.

They were also out of the sticky rice and some other desserts. The only reason I would come back is for the coconut cake, but that is all. I would bump them up a star for the cake, but this is a Thai restaurant, not a bakery.

The husband and I brought a couple and their two children here for a special night out on their side of town. While we had a good time and the food was decent, I was a bit disappointed.

The first thing when you enter is a huge fish tank - a great addition to decor - except this one was crusty and had only like three fish in it, though it was HUGE. I was a little nervous when I saw the place was basically empty, surprising for a Sat night at 8pm.

We had several beers, Singha and Tsing-tao to start and began with and then:

    First course
Laarb - minced chicken, seasoned with herbs, mint leaves, scallion, lemongrass, shallot chili, and tossed in lime juice
My favorite. Here it was very good and a huge portion. Everyone, even the 5 and 2 year old like it.
Fried Tofu - deep-fried tofu, served with crushed peanuts in a sweet chili dipping sauce  - I loved this - way crsipier than I can ever get it.
Basil Spring Rolls - Everyone loved these as well.
We ordered the Crab cakes, but they were out?

    Second Course
Tom gha gai soup - coconut soup with mushrooms, seasoned with galanga, chili and lime juice - Also a huge favorite of mine. I order it everywhere. Fantastic. The children loved this as well.
Pad See Euw - flat rice noodles sautéed in sweet soy sauce with chinese broccoli and eggs. Kids loved this. Though it had no broccoli in it. Not really my style.

    Third Course
Green Curry - thai spices blended in a hot green chili paste with bamboo shoots, basil, and bell peppers, simmered in coconut milk
A little watery for my taste and I love green curry...also a lack of my beloved basil leaves in it.
Sushi - Yech. The rolls were warm. Not a good sign. The fish was mushy and in some cases kinda pasty. One of the rolls we ordered they were out of as well. The seaweed was kinda falling apart. I don't know...it made me really nervous, and I wouldn't eat anymore. First time I have ever left sushi on a plate.

Meh. Indeed. Now I'm not thai, but I love thai enough to cook it at home, and frankly I like mine better. And I've had better at a million other thai places. Though this was a GREAT place for the kiddies to try new things. They were very kind to them and us. (Of course these kids are remarkably well-behaved as well). It was also pretty well priced. Just not worth the drive to Lawrenceville again.

The 5 stars goes to the most awesomess (is that even a word?) Coconut Cake ever! Let me tell you about this coconut cake; it's so damn moist and just melts in your mouth, even after a few days in the fridge behind the milk and eggs and stuff... and why is it behind the milk and eggs for a few days you might ask? Because as good as it was to my palette, it was very bad to my waist line.

The rest of the food was decent for Lawrenceville I guess. Although the 2nd time I came there, they gave me bad rice. Honey, I'm as asian as I can get, don't give me bad rice and tell me it's not bad! That's where I put my chopsticks down and do my 10,000 BIOTCH SLAPS.

This is my bff fav rest., so what does he do.... of course! I'm there!

    Ordered:
    Tom Yum.... thumbs up!
    Basil Roll.... eh, it's ok.
Som Tum.... oops they didn't have it available
Yum Nua.... Not bad, it's ok
Pad Thai..... whew! really on the sweet side
Curry dish..... is good but very soupy
Custard/sticky rice dessert.... too rich, the custard is like the Spanish dessert "flan"

I've gone there a couple times with my buddy. I'm Thai so I gotta try out Thai restaurants to test out the authenticity..... yea... this place doesn't meet the criteria. Don't pass it up tho! It's worth the try!

The basil fried rice with tofu is delicious.  Best oriental food I've ever had.  It would get 5 stars if they included more tofu and delivered.

I came here on a Friday night and was pleased with the service speed, but that was really the only thing that impressed me.  My Pad-See-Ew had so little sauce on it that you could see the original white color of the noodles.  It was bland and tough.

It's not bad, I suppose, but certainly nothing to write home about.  Also, they need to take better care of the fish in their aquariums.

There are much better places to get Thai in the area, so I won't be giving them another try any time soon.

i came here at the recommendation of some friends.  i was a little hesitant to go here because after my friends recommended me to this place, i read some of the (very mixed) yelp reviews.  some said it was the BEST thai place, others said it was eh...  i had to find out for myself.

short answer: it's ok.  not GREAT, not horrible.  it's like an average thai place.  if you're looking for a thai restaurant to eat at that's not bad, go here.  if you're looking for the best thai you've ever had, go somewhere else.

long answer: this is one of the only thai places i've ever gone to that uses the flat noodles for the basil noodles.  usually it's some other kind of thinner noodle.  that gets an automatic "plus" from me.  i went here with my girlfriend and we had the basil noodles with chicken and the green curry with beef.  curry was good.  i think someone wrote earlier that the curry was too watery, but i thought the consistency was great.  it went well with the rice.

i read another review that said that they served her bad rice.  when i took my first bite of rice with curry, i definitely crunched on something.  i'm not sure if it was rice, but whatever it was, i'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be crunchy like that.  however, it only occurred in my first two bites.

now about this coconut cake.  i'd say it was the best coconut cake i've ever had just because i've never had coconut cake before.  i'm actually not even a big fan of coconut - not taste, just consistency (a la woody harrelson in zombieland when he's talking about snoballs).  the cake was pretty good.  moist and not overpowering on the coconut.  i don't think the coconut cake did anything for me to rate the restaurant any higher.  it was just a good dessert.  but you're not missing anything if you don't order it.

The rating would be a two star if it weren't for the coconut cake. I would like to give more stars, but I really wasn't impressed. I've been spoiled by L'Thai and I don't think any place can even compare.

We walked in and stood there, waiting to be seated. Not that they were busy, but there was no servers to be seen. We're seated and our server speaks so softly that it's hard to hear her over the music. Everything had to repeated for one person in the group, and it didn't click with our server to speak up?

The food was nothing special, wasn't impressed with the veggie tempura at all. I had red curry, it had a nice flavor but I think the veggies may have been frozen? It just didn't seem really fresh, like I said, I've been spoiled by L'Thai.

No orchid garnishments on any of the plates, which was kinda disappointing. I suppose it helps keep costs down, and the food was very reasonably priced. I may come back, only because it's very close to home, or maybe order take out during lunch because it's only like $6.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants.  I grew up around here and have been frequenting this spot since they opened about 7 or 8 years ago.  I have brought so many non-Thai fans who have become believers, thanks to Thai Lotus.  They are located in a boring strip mall on Sugarloaf PKWY but the inside is like being in Thailand with a mercedes bike and cart, as well as wooden walls and great pictures.Their Pad Thai is great and is a good 2 meal sized portion.  The hot pot is yummy as are the curries.  I love the dipping sauce that goes with the fried tofu as well.  One of the best Tom Gha Kai soups in the city- great spice to it.  I think they have sushi now which is odd, but it is still my favorite asian spot when going to visit the 'rents.

This is a nice little restaurant tucked away in a small shopping center.  The staff is very friendly and they'll never let your drink get empty... but the food was just average.  I've had better thai at a thousand different places.  It's not that it tasted bad, it just wasn't anything to get excited about.  The basil fried rice is pretty good (although not all spicy like they tell you it is) and the Brocolli chicken has a pretty good sauce with it.

This place seems to be hit or miss, but that's due to their popularity at lunch. The food is almost always very good, but the service at lunch can suffer, and you may find yourself sitting right on top of your neighbor. Go around dinner or at an off-hour and you'll be pleased with the curry dishes.
