Went to eat here after getting recommendations from a friend.
PROS:
- Tom Kha Ghai: or coconut chicken thai soup is my litmus test of a good thai restaurant was outstanding. Loved it for lunch on a freezing December day in the city.
- Papaya shrimp salad: Made from young papaya, was excellent. By accident I asked them to make it spicy and it was too hot to handle !! I complained and they re-did and we enjoyed it
- Prig King: Green bean chicken was good too.
Fast food and fast service, will definitely be coming back.
My favorite Thai place in SF. This place was introduced to me by a Thai classmate in grad school.
GOOD:
- The beef noodle soup is awesome. It is like a richer version of pho. Apparently this is a typical home style Thai dish and they make it well.
- The pad thai is really good too. I know this sounds like a lame choice but I think theirs is the best I've had in SF.
- Parking is pretty easy around here. I guess people are scared to park in this area.
- Food comes out super fast like a Chinese take-out restaurant.
BAD:
- The whole pompano fish entree is terrible. The fish has a small amount of meat for the price you pay for it. The meat is all dry and friend and not that great either.
- Surrounding area can be sketchy late at night. Heck, it is a bit sketchy during the day.
- Sometimes they make their dishes way too salty/sweet. It can be hit or miss but usually their food is good.
CONCLUSION: A great Thai place that is more authentic and cheaper than popular places like Osha.
Thai House Express, though a few blocks further than we like to trek, has now become our "go-to" spot for decent-size portioned, tasty, and affordable Thai food.
I've tried the Pad See Ew, Stewed Pork Shoulder over Rice, and Roasted Duck Noodle Soup. Each dish is the exact portion I need and very flavorful. I never leave overly stuffed and that makes my skinny jeans feel comfortable. I don't have to worry about super fatty duck where there's barely any meat, or burnt pad see ew; the stewed pork shoulder is tender and forks off in shreds; delicious and a little fatty = just right; and of course, my wallet is happy.
Service is friendly, and though it gets packed the wait never seems too long, or we do take-out instead. I like to try new dishes, and so far nothing has left me disappointed. That's a good restaurant in my book. Four solid stars for the restaurant, but no stars for the poopy smelling neighborhood.
The undisputed king of late night Thai food dining, for downtown SF.
It's located in one of the worse areas in SF, but I've never had any problems. Many times I've seen police making arrests at that intersection. Look around u, don't be careless. A lot of people come here, the bus stops right in the corner.
There's a white board of specials posted above the kitchen, but don't stress out trying to read it. All those "specials" are listed on the one page specials menu, provided with the regular menu. The staff are friendly, so feel free to ask any questions about the menu.
Some of the dishes I remember ordering are:
I really like the toong gern yeung (minced chicken and veggie pouches) appetizer, because I seem to order it every chance I get. http://static.px.yelp.... http://static.px.yelp....
The gui chai (vegetarian chives cakes) http://static.px.yelp.... are a little bland, but at least it's a true vegetarian dish. Compared to Chinese chive pancakes at dim sum places which are not vegetarian (it has dried shrimp). Just a tip for any veggie fan readers.
The larb pedd (minced duck salad) is too salty for my taste. http://static.px.yelp....
Kao mun gai (steamed chicken over garlic rice) is a simple good dish. http://static.px.yelp....
Pork leg stew noodle soup is very popular. http://static.px.yelp....
Pork leg over rice, is less fatty than LRT's version. This is the same as "pig knuckle" from the Roli Roti cart, but without the bone and stewed. http://static.px.yelp....
Rad na - choice of meat, Chinese broccoli, and flat noodles with gravy. http://static.px.yelp.... Just FYI, Pad see ew is the non-soupy version of this dish.
On the specials menu - grilled skirt steak with house sauce. http://static.px.yelp....
There are 2 fried banana desserts, one with ice cream and one with honey and peanuts. I like the latter one best. http://static.px.yelp....
I don't think the roti dessert is that great, it's deep fried and oily. http://static.px.yelp.... Not bad, but Roti Kaya from Banana Island restaurant is best (that's the only item I recommend from that place). And Roti from Lime Tree restaurant is also good but that's an appetizer, not a dessert.
The restrooms are located upstairs, but u need to get the key from the register counter first. The men's bathroom key is attached to a metal spoon, http://static.px.yelp.... and the women's bathroom key is attached to a metal measuring cup.
Hear, hear! Long live T.H.E. king of Thai cuisine!!
I really like the location of Thai House Express on Larkin because it's easily accessible if you're riding the bus. The service is very fast and the food is great for the price. It's a good place to stop at for a bite to eat before an evening movie, as 1000 Van Ness is right around the corner.
NOTE: I mainly eat soups and salads. That being said, I love the Som Tum Thai, #15, at Thai House Express. Its a delicious shredded green papaya salad with dried shrimp tomatoes, green beans and peanuts in a lemon dressing. Their Yum Raum Mit Talay, #25, is another tasty favorite. This is a combination seafood salad tossed in a lemon dressing.
It's definitely a place I recommend to friends when they're looking for Thai around this area.
I've been eating here for about 4 years now, out of the 6 I've lived in SF. The best Thai in town. Ok, maybe not THE BEST, but for the price, i think it's one of my favorite places to eat some damn good thai. I also love Basil, Thep Phanom, but this place is the absolute jam!!! I would pick this over anywhere else. Every time we have guests in town to DJ our parties, I always petition to take them here, and they always love it. My girlfriend and I are here at least 3 times a month.
I used to live around the corner and would eat the Panang Curry with beef a couple of times a week, these days I hardly ever go without ordering the Yellow Chicken Curry, It's always so thick and the chicken is choice. I love the appetizer #1. I forget what it's called, but it's some kinda pouch thingy. Basically little deep fried pouches of spiced curried ground chicken, tied off with little seaweed bows. The Thai beef jerky was an incredible surprise, and if you're looking for something basic, i'd go with the Pad Kee Mao. It comes super spicey, so if you're not into that, make sure to ask for mild. The Larb is amazing as well.
I also highly recommend the mint lemonade. But be prepared to order two, and at around $4 if you're on a budget, I'd just avoid them all together. You'll be too hooked to watch your $.
Only flaw? No delivery. I think they'd probably need a fleet to cover all their deliveries. This place has a LOT of fans.
Oh, and they're open relatively late, which is friggin awesome.
delicious food. reasonably priced. friendly and fast service. try # 1 fried chicken and veggie pouches.
I approve! The pad thai and pad see ew were perfect, and came in generous portion sizes. The green curry was a bit lacking though. Also, as a Viet I don't appreciate the pho appropriation. C'mon, Thai people! We know you make bomb-ass food, but do you really have to take pho from us?
I got Thai'd up here yesterday and had some Pad Kee Mao for lunch. Of course, Marnee Thai makes my favorite version of this dish but I must have enjoyed Thai House Express' too since I cleaned my plate. However, I wish they had used less onions and tomatoes in place of bell peppers. Oh well, Phuket!
So I love King of Thai Noodle but the location can be annoying. It's smack in all the shopping bustle and parking is a byotch. So when I'm not in the mood to cope with the crowds, I just head a little further west to Thai House Express, a worthy contender! I love Thai House Express as much as I do King of Thai Noodle and both delivers distinctively different twists on the same dish. Their pad see you NEVER fails to delight me. Every noodle perfectly cooked and smothered evenly with their Thai sauce. Their basil eggplant is always spot on. The service in clean and attentive and quick! The price is right for all the flavors that they deliver to every dish. Can't complain! I'm always a happy camper here when I leave! And even more so when I don't need to go smack into the shopping crowds and can easily navigate my way to my car! Thank you Thai House Express!
We came here because one of our friend didnt had a previously good experience with Osha. I love Osha, but i am glad we tried Thai House Express. Their food was actually pretty darn good. It was very authentic and i was impressed since it was only a few doors down from Osha. The services was fast and portions was generous. I would come back here again to try out their other dishes.
So far this is the best Thai we've had in the City!
We requested 'extra-spicy' on all dishes (the waitress suggested that we just add more spices, available at our table. To our delight, however, each came out spicy without having to add a thing. Our mouths were aglow):
- Pork Shoulder Stew (tender pork that forked off in shreds, rested on top of Chinese gye-lan veggies, unique pickled peppers, served with a garlicky vinegar for dipping). It was outstanding! Loved the combination of sweet and sour flavors. My mouth waters as I typed this out.
- Pad Kee-Mao with prawns (stir fried wide noodles). Delicious flavor and quite colorful.
- Gang Kew-Wan with beef (green curry). Not as much flavor as we were hoping for.
- 1 serving of rice.
- Attempting to keep it a bargain bite, we stayed with water for our drinks.
Total tab with tax, $30. Could have saved more by simplifying our order down to 2 dishes, would have been plenty.
+ + + HIGH-FIVE + + +
- Flavorful, generous, dishes.
- Food came out immediately and were piping hot.
- Excellent, friendly service. Our water glasses were filled often.
- A definite bargain bite. We had more food than we needed and left stuffed.
- - - - DING - - - -
- The T-loin location. Our table, next to the wall of windows, allowed for incredible views of the hookahs, homeless, and druggies strutting by :-o
Bumping this up to 5 stars because it's just THAT good. Went here again for dinner and was once again impressed at the authentic Thai flavors. We ordered the sup nor mai (bamboo shoot salad), kao pad naem (fried rice with spicy sausage), kuaytiaw reua ("boat noodles"), and the bamee ped palo (egg noodles with duck). It was all so tasty and authentic, it immediately brought me back to the streets of Bangkok. The kuayteow reua was a lot better than the version I had at King of Thai Noodles. Even the Thai ice coffee was delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness.
Service was great as usual.....I left feeling full and satisfied. I will definitely head back again the next time I'm craving real Thai food.

If you want very authentic Thai food, come here! Eating here is as close as you can get in the Bay… Read more »
I'll keep this one simple. I ordered take-out pork noodles with sticky rice. The flat noodles weren't over-greasy, the sticky rice was sticky, the portions were a healthy size and the hit in the wallet was deflected with ease. In short, the food was good.
The restaurant itself isn't stunning, but it has a dark late night ambience that is great for a late night lovers chat.
I would definitely recommend.
We had 3 items for lunch and all came out pretty damn good (imho). It's the next best thing to being in LA thai town and Thailand.
Rad-na : 4 stars, aaahh..yes..I just luv the burned noodle flavour and well blanched kai-lan with generous gravy.
Tom-Yum noodle (spicy) : 4 stars, sweet, hot, sour, spicy, fragrant, all in one tasting.
Kao-soy :perfectly spiced in yellow curry with nice and rich aroma. (I had this in northern thailand and it's like the real deal)
All the flavours are simply good and unusually authentic. Hope they continue this way. Forget the neighborhood atmosphere/locale, if you are a real foodie and simply want good thai eats, this place is it.
Thai House Express, YOU'RE SO HOT! and I am so in love with you right now :) It's the best Thai food I've had in a really long time! When they say 'HOT" they really mean it, they show some respect by not underestimating your ability to eat spicy food. I loved my Tom Yum noodle soup. I went with 7 other friends, so I got to try 7 other plates which are all so goooood....... It's so Thaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! 555+
This is one of my favorite Thai food places in the Bay Area. I've been coming here since 2003. Most of the food is excellent! The environment is bright and lively. Condiments are all on the table when you arrive. The restroom is fairly clean, though located upstairs.
My favorites include green curry, anything with duck, most of the Thai house favorites, and the banana coconut ice cream.
One time in 2005 they did forget my order after sitting and waiting for 30 mins. They did give me a free Thai iced tea for the inconvenience. It is located in the Tenderloin. One time we had this guy who was all cracked out on something, dancing in front of the restaurant on my birthday.
Went here today for lunch. I've learned about a new thai dish I haven't tried yet. Sai Jai Thai doesn't have it so the waitress told me to go here since they have it.
It's Kao Ka Moo. Pork leg stew over rice. Also ordered Som Tum and Roti. This pork leg stew is pretty good. Reminiscent of a chinese-filipino called Pata Tim. When I ordered it, the waitress asked me "Is fat ok?" I of course said yes. You can't eat pork leg stew without the fat. I'm sold. I love it. It came with what I think some kind if pickled vegetable and a garlic chili vinegar sauce on the side.
Som Tum was ok and you can't really go wrong with the roti dessert. They have a special on the white board that caught my attention. Spicy Crispy Skin-Pork. They said it's roasted 3 layered pork. I instantly knew what it was. Pork-Fat-Skin. Similar to the Filipino Lechon except maybe thai style. I'm gonna come back again to try that dish.
Hi, my name is Justin, and I'm a Thai food addict. For me to not finish my Thai food it must have been pretty bad, or in this case pretty boring. Me throwing out Thai food is like crack head tossing out some rock.
On top of that, I was really really hungry. It didn't have to be amazing for me to dig it, but it was just.. really lacking I guess.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. It's generally pretty busy which is a good sign, plus it's only about 4 blocks from my place. And it was awesome when I opened the bathroom door to be greeted by loud thumpin' house music complete with good bass. It was like a nightclub in that bathroom, I felt like I should grab a drink and find a spot to dance.
As fun as that all is, I still was there for food, and the food was not good. Wouldn't say bad, it was just bland. It served it's purpose but I'll likely go back to passing this place by. Unless of course I want to dance in their bathroom.
This has become my standby for thai food in SF. consistently good. We got the beef with green curry sauce and the chicken with green beans, mint, basil and chili. Both were top notch. Service was good, food came out quickly. The price is right. This place is a bargain. They are willing to give it to you spicy if you like it that way, and don't tone down the flavor or spice just because you are a westerner.

Nicely spiced pad kra pao, enjoyed the soup as well. Lots of tables so didn't have to wait.… Read more »
I love that you walk into this (closest thing to real Thai in SF) spot, get a seat instantly, order 21, 50, 43, 103, rice and (sticky rice) and get served in about 3 minutes.
Be careful, if you don't know what 'Thai Hot' is... ;)
my friend rachel is a self-professed thai food snob. and she has a right to be - her grandparents were missionaries there, her father was brought up there and cooked thai food all throughout rachel's childhood, and she has even been there herself two times. i'd say she knows her way around a bird chili pepper. so when our friend amy and i had a hankering for thai food, rachel was prepared to be disappointed, and promised to try not to be too disdainful. however, she was pleasantly surprised by thai house express.
the place isn't anything special to look at; it's placement dead in the tendernob doesn't really suggest haute cuisine either. but the food is simple and simply delicious. amy is a frequent patron, and suggested the pra-ram (a chicken and veggies dish with peanut sauce) and the pad see-ew (a favorite noodle dish of mine). rachel was ecstatic to find the kao-soy; a traditional northern-thai dish that is rarely found in the states. i added the fish cake appetizer and we were all set. everything was finger-licking good, but especially the spicy kao-soy soup, every last drop of which rachel and i slurped up without amy's help. though we intended to have leftovers to fulfill our post-drinking munchie needs, we ate it all!
The name of this restaurant suits itself in that since it kind of borders a little more of the seedy areas of the TL it will cause some folks, who don't feel as comfortable being in the area, to want to eat their food quickly and go or just get the food to-go. Whatever you decide to do, eat in or take out, they are pretty quick about getting your food to you.
If ever I have a hungering for some tasty crab fried rice, this is my go-to Thai restaurant as, in my opinion, they make it best. The pad see ew and dessert roti are quite good as well. Beware with the curries though as every time I've ordered them from here they have been really spicy.
I'll start off by saying that I would give this 4 and a half stars if I could.
A friend and I visited this place because a friend of hers said it was awesome and because she read the Yelp reviews and sent the link to me. Based off of the reviews we were sold.
We went on a Wednesday night at about 7 and there was a decent amount of people but I wouldn't call it crowded. I got there first and despite not having my friend there they still sat me. I ordered a glass of their house Cab and found it tasty.
Once Amber got there we agreed on sharing the Por-Pier Sod for an appetizer and the Pad Thai and the Chicken Pra-Ram as entrees.
The Por-Pier are rice paper rolls stuffed with Chinese Sausage and other yummy stuff. We had never had it and thought it sounded good. Was it good? **** yes it was! I can't wait to order it again. It was very different from anything I have ever tasted. I really enjoyed it.
Pad Thai is a pretty typical dish to order at a Thai place but we decided to try it here because of the "Best of the Bay, voted Best Pad Thai by the Bay Guardian" claim it had on the menu. It was indeed quite tasty. They weren't skimpy with the shrimp which is often the case at other places.
The Chicken Pra-Ram was (please excuse my east bay slang) off the hook. It was my first time trying this dish and Thai House has made it a favorite of mine. If you like peanut sauce, I say shove this in you gaping mouth immediately. Pretend you can't finish it all (you don't want to seem like a hungry pig even though you actually are) and take the rest home in a box. Get in your apartment door and finish the rest post haste.
So far, Thai House Express has won me over as my favorite Thai place in SF. Plus, this location is in the TL so if you get a seat by the window you will get a free show as well. I think the show is called "This is why you should avoid drugs in rock form or in needles." Yeah, long show name but you get my point.
Thai food after a trip to Whiskey Thieves is a given with me. Yeah, it sounds like a weird combination, but spicy food = I get hydrated. This is definitely a winning formula in my book! Extra points for being open late.
I've come here several times and they've never failed me. I love their Tom Yum soup (they actually use galangal in this!); it's better than Sai Jai's in my opinion (Sai Jai uses white button mushrooms instead of the canned straw mushrooms that actually should go in it). They do a really good green papaya salad with salty crab (not quite as good as Sai Jai, but you can't win 'em all). They have really tasty Drunken Noodles too. We've also gotten various other curries and noodles and it always hits the spot.
The spicy prik king is fantastic - particularly fresh snap beans, perfect fried tofu, no holding back on the heat. The only mistake I made was not ordering the "a la carte" version which I didn't realize would have replaced the large serving of rice with about twice as much of the good stuff.
They were out of the Phuket lager, but fast friendly service and great flavours more than made up for it.
This place gets 4 stars only because it beats out most other thai I have had in the city and its cheap. Ive had a tough time with Thai in the bay area and I eat a very basic dish. But I keep trying. This place was recommended to me and I was pleasantly surprised. But I only get it to go because I have to doctor it up and add fresh veggies at home.
Biggest downfall- no delivery. What is with all of these thai places in SF that don't deliver?!
THE FOOD IS WONDERFUL.. . if you like Thai food but not to spicy with lots of kick and flavor its a must
my faves: GUI CHAI crispy chive almost like hallow pancakes
SALAD NUER SUN beef salad with greens, tomatoes, onions
MOO TOD crispy pork with garlic lots of it and pepper
service was okay to good / nice for group events. it was kind of loud but place seems clean and a jeans and t shirt kind of a place.
again go for the food
Pretty close to a five star Thai place for price and quality. It just took a bit too long for our food to arrive despite there being less than a dozen people in the place. Oh well, worth the wait. The Pad Thai and sticky rice were bad-ass.
hmmmm mmm mmm mmm mmm!
I am so glad I live near this place!
The food- fantastic! and comes out fast!
The service- quick and friendly!
The prices- very reasonable!
a few favorites:
-that tom kha soup (i can't remember which one but pick whatever cause they're all good!): is delicious and so flavorful!
-dessert! fried banana with ice cream, drizzled with honey! the best fried banana i've ever had.
-chicken with eggplant and basil
-pad-see something
Yummy Yummy Yummy ~
This is currently my favorite Thai restaurant in town!
Although the location is not really ideal for me, I love the food there. So far everything I have tasted (I have eaten there or taken out at roughly ten times) been amazing.
My man is quite familiar with the people there and I can see why. The people at this place are like your family, very friendly and warm.
hmmmmm those pictures make me hungry !!
This is the best Thai Restaurant in town! I always go there for my favorites. The service is fast and friendly and there's hardly a long wait time if any at all. The great thing about this place is they use fresh and quality ingredients. Chicken is actual breast meat and tastes like chicken unlike some other places that use dark meat and hardly taste like chicken.
1. Beef Salad
2. Pumpkin Curry w/ Beef or Chicken
3. Pad Thai w/ Chicken
4. Tom Yum Noodle Soup with Flat Rice Noodle - DELISH!!!
5. Calamari
6. Larb w/ Chicken
7. Papaya Salad with Dried Shrimp
OMG, their food is LIKE crack. Still love the Moo-Tod...but can't be seen in public after a dishful of that stuff.
Bad news...had to deduct a star...the last time that I was there eating dinner with my friend, Scott....we saw one LARGE COCKROACH...side by side with 2 babies....UUUGH...they weren't in the food, but on the wooden bench where I was seated. Everytime it would come towards me, I would give it my "STINKY EYE" . ONE WORD: EWWWWWWWW!
Still love the food, though...the roach had me thinking twice...

My first yelp review! I'm only writing this b/c it comes with a new dish that you should try, I think it should be called the triple threat
Overall, I'd give the restaurant a 3.5. The food I'd give a 3. I'm only rounding up this 3.5 to 4 because it's cheap and the food wasn't greasy.
We basically ordered what the waitress told us...and we decided to try an appetizer. I have no idea what it was called but it was #2 on the menu. The first bite was amazing, but I'm pretty sure its b/c I was soo hungry. I didn't think it was that good after the first bite tho, the sauce was too thick and heavy. (side note: Im done with the 's for now b/c I broke my right pinky playing bball the day before I came to san fran and I cannot deal with having to type the ' with my ring finger anymore, same with a lot of capitalization...but not to worry, ill keep spelling for the most part!)
So my mom and I ordered the pork leg stew thing with the rice, shrimp pad thai (b/c 1. all the comments about the pad thai on yelp and 2. b/c it also had a best in san fran award albeit in 2005...so maybe that's why it wasn't so good? Unless you cant win twice?), and the basil chicken on the waitress' recommendation....im glad we decided on 3 entrees and an appetizer for the two of us haha
The pork leg stew was the rice was soo tasty. The meat was so soft and tender and the flavor was good. Haha as my mom said, "its kind like ma ma's hong shao rou (but still not as good), it's so tender". The pork leg stew comes with some sour sauce that has garlic in it, but we didn't use it with the pork.
My mom decided to get the chicken basil b/c she said that's basically what she uses for her san bei ji (Three Cup Chicken). We got it with mild spiciness, which was still spicy enough to realize that it's spicy. The chicken was chopped to tiny pieces and full of flavor. We got it with brown rice, but it didn't look like it b/c it looked like red bean rice, but it was still good.
The shrimp pad thai was really disappointing. It was orange and overly sweet. It was just one solid flavor with this sweet sauce that was too thick. Ive tried my friends pad thai at Nonya (? I think its like a chain of Penang) in NYC, which was really good, full of flavor and very colorful. That one had lots of green onions, eggs, and a little spiciness (and some other stuff that I didn't really care for haha) This one had almost no eggs, not enough green onions, or shrimp.
Now...for the TRIPLE THREAT! More than halfway thru our meal, I was telling my mom about the pad thai I had in nyc and how it had been spicy, when all of a sudden, I was like OH the basil chicken is spicy! Let's make it chicken shrimp pad thai! So, we mixed in the rest of the basil chicken and the brown rice (b/c there wasn't much of it left), which gave it a bit of a spicy taste. I wish I had thought of it earlier b/c we had SO much pad thai left over that the spiciness was much less noticeable (but not absent). Then my mom thinks to pour in the sour sauce with the garlic b/c it's too sweet...
The triple threat pad thai might best be put this way. I knew we were going to have leftovers, and I was not looking forward to eating the original pad thai b/c it was bland/overly sweet and I couldn't bear to waste a plate of noodles. I was actually excited to wake up in the morning and eat this for early lunch/late bfast.
The Triple Threat. Shrimp pad thai + chicken basil with brown rice + sour garlic sauce from pork leg = More texture, flavor, and a little spicy, sweet and sour pad thai. TRY IT.
We told one of the guys (he seemed to know a lot about the dish, he was like Ohh yea?! The combination of garlic and spice! Hmm!) there about it...I hope they make it a new dish haha.
Seeing how long this is, not sure if ill be writing many more
Good, reasonably priced thai food. Open late, though they used to be open later.
And how can you beat the live action theater of despair outside the window? Definitely peep the bums with bloated "crack feet" stumbling down the street and the foil blocked window across the street. Meth lab anyone? Makes the perfect date spot.
But I digress. The param pak (crispy tofu with peanut sauce over a bed of spinach) is the shit and is even better the second day! The yum woonsen (silver noodles with minced pork, shrimp, mushrooms, onion and lemon) is sexy too. However the crab noodles (chan pad poo) is what I come for. They are pretty spicy but not to the point where you feel like you're going to sweat out your meal (always ask for mild). The pouches appetizer is cravable too. Pair with a beer and it's heaven. My man loves the yellow chicken curry and always asks for extra potatoes.
Overall, nice place with good value. Clean chopsticks. Never found any foreign objects in my food or on the floor::knockonwood::, and the take out is always correct and timely.
the food here is excellent! I was the first customer in the door at 12:01 :)
I ordered the PRA RAM rice plate with chicken , mixed vegetables and topped with peanut sauce
service was very quick and the waitress was nice, Im glad I found this restaurant! I'll definitely be back to try more. Nice little restaurant also very clean.
My friend and I were looking for a place to go eat late at night in SF. This was a surprisingly tall order. We walked and walked around Larkin street in SF and found very few restaurants anywhere. It was my second date with this girl and not knowing where we could go was definitely embarrassing. I had my iPhone with urbanspoon but it wasn't much help to find a place very close. We found several strip clubs but I figured that's not what she had in mind. (Oddly enough, I read in the SF Chronicle a day later and there was a murder at one of the strip clubs on the night we walked past it.)
Finally we found the Thai House at Larkin and Geary, which emerged almost like an oasis in the desert in my eyes. Even at 10 PM it was busy. Their menu has practically 500 different items which is really bad for me since I feel the need to read about all of my options. I ordered the BBQ chicken fried rice and my friend ordered the pad thai. It took a while for us to get our food and they delivered my friend's food about 5 minutes after they served me -- definitely tacky. But the chicken was awesome. It had a 'slow roasted' smokey flavor and tender texture made the entree really unique. I can't remember exactly how much our meal cost but the prices were reasonable. The wait staff was somewhat aloof but I'd definitely recommend this place if you're wandering around aimlessly in SF one night.
One of the better Thai places in the area. Get curry with chicken - the chicken will just melt in your mouth. Pumpkin curry is a hit too. Solid Thai food here.
JONASAPPROVED!
This is the best Thai food I've had. I came in the door after watching Bruno at the AMC and wasn't even close to hungry (after that movie, can you blame me?), but decided to order once I looked around and started smelling the delicious-ness that was on everyone else's plates.
Curry was amazing ... I had a tofu dish with vegetables and everything was cooked to perfection, not drenched in sauce or overcooked, but nice and crisp. The pad thai my girlfriend had was very, very good as well ... the best I've ever had in fact.
Only complaint was since there isn't any fabric or material that absorbs sound, the restaurant was unpleasantly loud, making conversation difficult. Then again, who needs conversation when you've got great food.
First allow me to admit that I'm not asian, eurasian, thai, viet, pinoy, etc.. I'm really sorry about that.
So its true that I don't have any native credibility when it comes to asian cuisine. But I have tried many Thai restaurants in the east bay and sf over the years. On one occasion back in 2003 I met a "colleague." for lunch at the Thai House. He is such a mellow guy. But he made one glaring comment. "Oh wow, you've never been here before?" I kind of sank in my chair....
I have been coming back ever since. Yes, it is in the "Loin." But the food at this joint heats up my loins. Everything I have tried here is amazing. I am completely hooked on the Pad See-ew. Or the number 64 as I call it. The noodles with your choice of chicken, pork, or beef and fresh steamed broccoli, are delicious and filling. Plus I tried their hot Thai tea the other day and it was also really tasty. This place is inexpensive, laid back, and is some of the best Thai food I have tasted in the city.
As long as you avoid going across the street to the Outsider, (wink), for a cocktail.....you should have an enjoyable evening. Good luck.
