10 reviews for Thai Country Restaurant
Thai Country Restaurant is one of the better Thai food restaurants in Fresno. It's a little pricey but it averages out because they usually give you enough food for 2 meals.
The fried calamari is amazing. Their batter is surprisingly light and extremely crispy and they serve it with Sriracha sauce and sweet chili sauce.
Pad Thai is solid. You can order it in a combo with Panang curry or Basil Chicken. Either one are great options.
Negs:
Located in Clovis, service can be slow.
Yes, I'm a fan of this badly located and named restaurant. Ownership has changed three times actually, since I started frequenting this restaurant. The menu is very typical. The food is good, not the best, but good enough to satisfy my cravings. There's not much to the decor, but so what? It has tables, chairs, utensils, and is clean.
Why do I enjoy this place? I feel at home here. When they used to have a TV in the dining area, I would order a noddle dish and watch American Idol with the hostess/waitress/cashier (which by the way is the same person) AND they let me change the channels.
I came to the curiously named "Thai Country" restaurant hoping for some average Thai food.
First, the waiter informed me the place used to be called "Becky's Country Restaurant" and they just put a "Thai" sign over it. Hence the pictures of Chuck wagon murals on the walls. (Though I've read they have spruced up the place".
The place is one of those strange hole in the wall places that you get lucky and find. It's a gem.
The first time I cam I had the red curry, which was wonderful. The next time I tried the pad thai, the next was the thom kha gai. I must have tried everything on the menu. I saw the child of someone that worked there eating some pork, sauteed veggies and fried tofu and I asked for that and the chef made it for me even though it wasn't on the restaurant. All the food is so tasty.
Sadly I moved and haven't eaten any in a long time.
Thai Country Kitchen is a dainty restaurant knitted within Clovis. I came with a group of my coworkers who knew the restaurant well and basically ordered for me. I heard there was a new owner and the place was recently renovated - but decorations/interior shouldn't reflect the quality of food anyway.
Now I love Thai food, but their authenticity was beyond what I've tasted - food was fantastic! We started off with deep fried squid and tum yum soup. Appetizers were DE-LISH! We proceeded to order the Pan-Ang curry chicken, garlic deep fried grilled Tilapia, and chicken laab (please excuse my spelling), as well as a round of iced Thai tea drinks.
Now we were a very hungry party of five and we left the restaurant with 2 boxes. 1 dish portion is small if you eat it amongst yourself, but when it comes to family style you might have bigger eyes than your stomach. The server/owner was lovely - she was super courteous and very helpful. The restaurant got surprisingly busy on a weekday night as we got up to leave. I can see why :)
Will be back soon!
Been here a few times. Ordered my usual Phad Thai, etc... In short, I think it falls below all the Thai restaurants in Clovis. Food was nothing special but eat-able. Over priced for what you get. Location and place is average to below. Service was slow (even with only 2 customers) and not very friendly. This is the closest one to me and I'd rather go to Thai Gem or Thai Royal Orchid.
I was confused at first - was it a country kitchen, or was it a Thai restaurant? Yelp cleared up the confusion, and as soon as I found out, I decided to try it for lunch.
I had the Pad Thai, which was much better than my previous experience at Thai Gem. This pad thai had lots of peanuts and egg mixed in. The sauce was flavorful. The precut raw carrot sticks had obviously been prepared sometime early in the week so I left those on the plate.
The atmosphere was fine - clean and quiet and tastefully ornamented with Thai sculptures and pictures of the king of Thailand. The service was fast, friendly and attentive, and my waiter was pretty cute.
I'd definitely return.
11/24/09 OK, I did return. I think I've eaten there about 8 times now. I've had the tofu eggplant, the panang tofu and the pad thai. Each dish has been wonderful, flavorful, and reasonably priced. So far there hasn't been a restaurant in town that even comes close to their consistent quality.
The previous reviews seem to be more hung up on the decor than the food. Truth be it all, who cares about the decor if the food is awesome, which it is.
Mongolian beef and the cashew chicken are some of the best i have had. Their curry's are great. I've also tried many of there other items and have not found one that i didn't like.
4 stars for trying! When I walked inside I had to stop myself from laughing. It used to be "Someone's Country Kitchen" but now it is "Thai Country Restaurant". The current owners made no attempt whatsoever to remove the tacky Clovis-like country decor, instead they opted to paint the word "THAI" on top of the barn yard mural that adorns the wall. And replace the word "kitchen" with "restaurant" on the exterior sign. Despite all of this , my mom (who works down the street at San Joaquin College of Law) apparently frequents this place with her co workers. Granted my mom's friends are a bunch of white people, they all rave about this place.
I have to say that the food here was average. But I give them 4 stars for ambiance. Trust me, you won't regret being whisked away to the magical land of Thai Country....unexpected yet pleasurable!

The decor has changed to a more "authentic" thai restaurant....I'm actually going to miss Thai Country.
I don't consider Clovis the best place to get Thai food This place really does look like someones kitchen--I mean that in the worst way. I went there and was even more disappointed by the food. Although I thought they really tried, it just wasn't good. I've had better-badThai food. I think if they had more of a clientele then they'd be able to afford the items that actually go in Thai food. Service is slow, but I think it's because they actually cut up everything on the spot--which the beef salad wasn't bad, but they used lousy lettuce. They tried to cover the blandness by adding red chili--which made the food entirely too spicy hot to handle. If you do go here, eat a bowl of ice cream before....and after you leave if you get my drift. Better yet, I wouldn't want to spend good money.
although the atmosphere is very quiet and needs improving and the wait was a bit long, the food was very good and had more flavor than any thai restaurants ive been to in fresno county. their portions are more than generous and their price range is very low compared to others. service was ok. this is definitely the only place i will get my thai food from now on. fyi-dinner time has the better cook.
