I go to this restaurant with my family all the time and the food is always pretty good. The place is really small and they like to favor bigger parties b/c obviously that is where the money is. So I came here with my girlfriend a little after lunch time and it was pretty full. A couple of seating options and they give us the one closest to the door where the breeze kept hitting my back. And keep in mind it was a cold windy day. We placed our order and noticed a table of 4 come in and got seated. Ordering 10 min after us I received my pad Thai and waited for my fish house special. The table of 4 received their 4 entrees one being my house fish special before I received mine. Waiting solely on my one dish my pad Thai and rice got cold. After flagging down the waitress several times she said don't worry its on its way. When I finally got my fish special it had no sauce and was dry.
We also noticed a young couple coming in and wanted to sit in the corner where it was warm which was for a table of 4. the waitress said no no, sit over here which was right next to our table near the freezing door. A minute later an older Indian married couple points to the corner table and the waitress simply smiles and says go ahead. So if your young, obviously they dont give much respect unless you come in a large group of people because they don't expect much from you
I understand where the money may come from but depending on my service i like giving larger tips and with the service i received, i told friends and family to stop going there
lost my service and my respect

What can i say about this spot? It just alright... nothing special, nothing to die for, just food for lunch. gets the job done no? yep, just gets the job done, decently priced flavors are basic, nothing to wow.

Just another spot to grab a quick bite, lunch specials are reasonably priced sub-$10.

This is my favorite Thai place in Dublin.  They are always friendly, and I always get to sit at my usual spot by the cashier/kitchen area.  The service is friendly and quick.  Their motto is to get you in and out quickly during lunch time as they do have a small space, and same for busy dinner time.

I have tried all the dishes on the menu, and some are a bit salty, but you can always request to have them adjusted if you are on special diet.  The price is RIGHT and cheap.

The only time the service is a bit long is on busy Friday and Saturday's nights, but even then, the turnaround is less than 15 minutes.

Sorry, Thai Basil Express doesn't quite do it for me.  Maybe it is not fair to say that when I had only eaten there once, but I will explore some other places next time I visit Dublin (if that tells you anything).  The Thai ice tea was okay, a little bit too sweet for my taste.  The Tom Kha gai was definitely too sweet, up to a point that it is terrible.  It is like drinking sweetened diluted coconut milk.  I also ordered the spicy bamboo shoot chicken from the lunch menu, and it was okay.  nothing to write home about.  The restaurant was packed during lunch time, so many people seems to disagree with me.  No problem with the service there.

I love Thai Basil's Thai Iced tea and their regular Pad-Tai. It's my absolute favorite thing to order and come pick up on my way home from work on on lunch break. Very fresh meats, seafood and tastey sauces.
    However--
I always have to pay cash if it's under $15....in which case my order always is.
I know, that they are being charged by the credit card company for services like this but we are living in 2011 people, and this restaurant does fairly well....
It actually deters me from going there more frequently as I do not want to stop by the bank just to have cash for them.
    PLEASE CHANGE THIS.

I went here for the first time today and I had to write a bad review for them. Their service was horrible! I went at 3PM and no where on their door did they say they close at 3:30PM. It's fine. Nonetheless they were open. I had my baby in a car seat and had 3 adults in our party. The restaurant was pretty empty only 2 other parties. I want to sit at a table for 6 so I had more room for the car seat and all the baby stuff. The waitress insisted that we sit at a table for four right next to another party. I couldn't squeeze by that table next to us with my car seat without lifting it over another customer's head. I requested to sit at another table for 4. When we sat down, the waitress told us that we had to order because the kitchen was closing. Fine. We couldn't fit all of the plates on our table (because the table was small) and I said why don't you just leave it on the table next to us since no one was sitting there. Because she didn't want to wipe down the other table, she arranged all the dishes on our table to make it fit. Fine. She then proceed to put the bill down at our table...oh wait..there's no room so she puts it on the table next to ours. 10 minutes she comes back and says...we close at 3:30. can you pay for the bill first? fine. i gave her 4 $10s. she comes back and says..you only gave me $30. I recounted and showed her that I gave her $40. she comes and cleans our table then shuts off all the lights!!!! what the heck!!! we were still sitting at the restaurant and they shut off the lights to kick us out. HOW RUDE!!! Never coming back again.

Just as good as the one in Berkeley.

If you're dropping in for dinner on a weekend night, try phoning in a reservation first. It's a rather small place and seating can be hard to come by on busy nights.

P.S. Order the orange chicken. It will change your life...or at least make it a little better for one night.

The prices are reasonable here, and the pad thai is pretty good. I also tried the panang curry with beef (medium spicy) - it seemed like something was missing. It seemed like it was made pretty simply.

Not much to say about service here, don't expect much from an Asian establishment. They seated us promptly, took our order, brought our food and drinks, and got us the check when we requested it.

Their curry is tasty, it has a chili pepper next to it on the menu which implies spiciness but it was not spicy at all. Their Thai tea is delicious.

For $11 pp out the door, not bad at all for lunch.

Me and my friend ate here for lunch. I had Panang curry and he had Green curry. We also ordered Roti & Curry for appetizer. The roti was okay. The bread was flat, the potatoes on the curry semmed to be in there. (It's hard to find a good Rotti & Curry if you had an awesome one in Singapore) Our Panang and Green curry were so-so. We were expecting our curries bursting in flavor but it was almost flat. The egg roll on the lunch plate was totoally out of place. Meat portions were also the least I have seen from any Thai resturant.

Thai Basil was okay, but would probably look for other Thai restaurant.

Who knew at a Chinese shopping mall in Dublin you can find a Thai restaurant that is as good as Thai Basil Express! Went there for lunch with a friend and her family and everyone was happy after eating the meal (including friend, her hubby, her mom and her almost 1-year old baby)!

The store itself is a little hole-in-the-wall place and as I walked in I really didn't expect anything more than a cheap, quick meal for lunch. One star plus for their menu, which includes photos for most of the dishes. It is always helpful to look at the photos before ordering. And the pricing on all dishes are very reasonable; lower than similar restaurants on the other side of the bay. When our dishes arrived I was surprised at the generous portions of everything. We ordered:

Thai Suki soup - with clear rice noodles and LOTS OF veggies (spinach & cabbage) and chicken chunks. Light but flavorful broth.

Pad Thai - comes with raw bean sprouts and you mix them with the saucy noodles to get all the flavors. Also very generous portions of proteins (chicken and shrimps) and very flavorful. Can't find anything wrong with this dish! This was friend's hubby's favorite dish!

Pumpkin Curry - yellow curry with big chunks of pumpkin and green bell pepper. Not very spicy and the pumpkins were tender and cooked through. This went really well with the aromatic jasmine rice.

Thai Fried Rice Chicken - $6.95 for a huge plate of fried rice with big chunks of chicken; what a good deal!  There was something about it that made such a simple dish taste so good and I could not stop raving about it. The rice tastes so aromatic; it's the combination of the eggs and oil and the right heat they use that made it so good. It's not oily at all and I could not stop eating it; and I normally don't like ordering fried rice at restaurants. Bonus point to the garnish they add: big pieces nicely peeled and cut of cucumbers. It was refreshing and made the dish look nice as well.

Basil Eggplant - Big pieces of eggplants that were cooked to perfection. You know how sometimes eggplants can be too mushy if not done right? These were big chunks that were probably cooked in high heat oil very quickly to seal the outside. The outside looks firm and inside was tender (but not mushy).  There was lots of basil leaves that not only serve as garnish but also make the sauce packed with basil-y flavor.

For the price they charge for the dishes, I really didn't expect to get such good quality dishes that are so flavorful and pleasant for the stomach. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get good Thai food!!

Came here today with a group of friends.

I ordered the Roti & Curry for appetizer and the Pad Thai for my entree.
The Roti was thin and flat, not the fluffy and airy variety I'm used to, but it tastes the same. The curry was only ok--I prefer the one at Red Chili (in Hayward), but this wasn't bad.

The Pad Thai was also OK. They didn't skimp on chicken, shrimp and tofu, so I was pleased.  For under $8 dollars you get quite a bit of food, so don't be surprised if you go home with left overs. Better yet, plan on it....for some reason, it tasted better after I reheated it three hours later.

This place is small so it was packed for dinner. They definitely tried to rush us out...guess that's why its called Thai Basil EXPRESS.

My wife and I like going to this location.  It's usually pretty busy, but the service is not too bad regardless of how busy it gets.

Food always tastes pretty good.  After more than a few "date night" visits with my wife, I decided to try and use them for catering orders.  Definitely was a great decision.  Family/Relatives loved the food.  The last catered order was during the Mother's Day weekend.  We ordered a tray of Pad Thai and a tray of Thai Grilled Chicken.  Both were very tasty!  More than enough to feed a family of 14 (3 teens and 1 preteen).  I think the only thing we try to do when we do big orders is to watch out for all the sauce.  I've jokingly said "easy on the sauce".  lol  It might be due to the moisture though.  Maybe?

Love the owners/management.  They recognize us when we come in and sometimes throw in a freebie or two whenever we do big orders.

Price is usually right!  You definitely get a good bang for that buck!!!

Would definitely recommend this place to others!

Great Take Out!! We ordered in from here based on all the reviews!

The pricing is pretty reasonable because the quantities are very generous. We ordered the pumpkin curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice and the pad thai. That was plenty for 4 people for only $27!! The food could have been a little spicier and more salt but those are totally personal things.

The person who took our order did not rush me on the phone and took the time to take my name and order properly...1 star just for that!

Alright, Thai Basil. My Parents frequently go here, frequently...

Their menu is great, not only because it has pictures, but because it's full of options. Another plus, those options are tasty!

Customer Service is decent, no major Complaints.

The food was ok.  It honestly isn't the best I've ever had, the noodles in the pad thai were all stuck together, it was a little bland.  The egg rolls were bland too.  The chicken larb was really good, it was flavorful and fresh.  What makes this place great is the service.  The staff are so pleasant and charming.  They know a lot of customers by name and really work hard to make sure each customer is happy.  It's hard to find that committment to service anymore.  I'll go back and just ask they make the food spicier.

I'm so thankful that my favorite Thai joint in Berkeley opened one in Dublin. With the same affordability, consistency, large portion, and no nonsense get in-get out type atmosphere as the one that's cater to hungry and poor Cal students. This is one of my favorite lunch places during the work week because: 1) the food is very tasty; 2) you won't break the bank, lunch is around $10; and 3) they're fast. The workers are also friendly.  Pretty much everything I've tried was good. I especially enjoy their Combination Salad, Spicy Beef Salad, and Papaya Salad (I "try" to eat healthy at lunch). I also like their Basil Chili Catfish. Get there a little early to beat the lunch crowd since  the place is small or call in your order for pick-up.

Hey, this place is kind of a fast food thai place, and it's good!  I love how they have pictures in their menu. (I'm a visual person) The staff was friendly enough and the food came out almost instantly!

I came with 2 other people and we ordered:
    Beef Pad See Ew
    Green Curry with Chicken
    Mango Fried Rice
Veggie Stir fry with soft tofu

Everything was really tasty for a "fast food" joint and was relatively cheap.  Even though the food was cheap, the portions were very large.  Not the best Thai food I've ever had, but this is a type of place where food is supposed to come out speedy so you have to take that into consideration.

I wasn't impressed. I walked in around 12:30 on a Friday and the place was packed. So I had high hopes of eating some good food. The only table was by the door and it was a windy day. Not cool.

The food was brought out quickly but the dishes lacked flavor. I didn't understand why they gave us a bowl of hot and sour soup with our lunch. Isn't this is a Thai place? At least some Tom Yum soup? The peanut sauce was practically just microwaved Jiffy.

The table for 2's are so small you better make sure you don't order more than 2 items. The worst part, I literally had to ask for drinks 5x, 3 different servers. They seriously could not get it together.

    C'mon Asians!!

I'd rather go to the Thai place in DT Pleasanton which is less crowded, more spicy, more authentic.

The mango fried rice is probably good for kids you just need to wait a litte bit so you dont burn your tongue. The roti is good if you dip it in the sauce or it is pretty dry. The pad thai was good because the sprouts made it crunchy. I would recommend to other kids.

This has become almost a weekly stop for my co-workers and I.  My favorite dish is the Cashew nut with Chicken but I have had other dishes on their lunch menu.

The price is very very reasonable at $6.95 lunch specials with salad and rice.  The curry is also very good but for the taste and price there keeps us coming back.

One odd thing is they now will not accept debit/credit cards for purchases less than $15.  This must be a new thing and a bit awkward since it caught most of our group off guard.

This is a popular spot and there is almost a waiting line so get there early as the seats will fill up.  The food also comes out very quickly and the staff doesn't pressure anyone to leave right away.  Good food, good prices. We will continue to go back for a weekly meal.

    Happy Eats!

I've been eating at Thai Basil Express for close to a year now.
Hands down, the best cheap Thai Food on the planet. It has been consistently tasty each time I visited. Not good once, better another time and then bad. Consistently GOOD.

Their Thai Green Curry, Mussaman Curry, Yellow Curry and Red curry are fantastic. They have their lunch specials, which enables you to order an entree with rice, salad/soup and a spring roll. Enough for one person to eat and take the leftover home. And priced at only $7 and some odd cents. Their Spicy fried rice is awesome too. I am a sucker for spicy food and I thoroughly enjoyed the dish.
The Thai Iced Tea is yummy too.

I reduced one star because the cashier/owner is rather mean. I just put up with her for the food.

This is not a fancy Thai Restaurant but it definitely fulfills the primary objective of feeding you at a reasonable price with quick yet indifferent service.

We were a group of three and we ordered the tom kha soup (small), the red curry with rice and a spicy fried rice.

The small (i.e half portion) of soup was sufficient for all three of us. The portions are huge, we had to box out the remaining red curry and the rice. The price was extremely reasonable, it came upto 8 bucks per person including the tip.

For all that it offer, thai express deserves many more visits :) Waiting to visit my sis again in Dublin :)

Thai Basil Express is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Tri Valley.  Their prices are beyond reasonable but they get very packed so be prepared to wait during the lunch rush.

    My favorite dishes:
    * Basil Chili Beef - restaurant menu shows Basil Chili Chicken under the lunch special but you can subsitute w/Beef at no extra cost or for Seafood for an additional $1.50
    * Penang Beef (extra spicy) - flavorful curry blend
    * Tom Yum Shrimp - delicious! (I make it just as good...hehe)
    * Roti & Curry - comes sliced so makes it easy for sharing
    * Pad Thai - lots of tofu which I love!
    * Mango & Sticky Rice - always a nice ending to a spicy meal

Even if you don't make the lunch specials, all entrees include Jasmine rice so it's still a full meal.  No need to order rice on the side like other places.  Their portions are large enough for sharing.  I recently ordered the Basil Chili Beef lunch special and brought it home for dinner too.

SERVICE = 4 stars (very fast even when busy)

It's a Monday night. I'm with my friend Michael and we are about to see a movie around 7:55. We sat in the car for like 20 minutes and could not decide where to eat. I've never felt so indecisive and helpless in my life.

Oh, and one thing to consider, this was my first meal of the day because I decided to sleep all day.

Originally we were going to go to a Pakistani restaurant in the same area but we stumbled upon this place. They had the menu with pictures on it on the door and boom, we were sold.

Chicken Satay and Pad Thai with Shrimp and Chicken, to go.
You are lucky that I am writing this review at the smallest chance that I actually remembered the food because we DESTROYED this stuff.

Came out hot and fast and tasted awesome. I'm so glad I found a place that I can get some Thai food to go.
Price isn't bad at all and the people are friendly.

My criteria for a great restaurant--not an "ok" restaurant, not a "good" restaurant are the following:

    1) The food is *consistently* good.  Not just a flash in the pan
    2) Fast, curt service.  Don't need or want the PF Chang treatment
    3) Exceptional value

Thai Basil has met all 3 in spades.  I have worked in Pleasanton for over 5 years, and I've been going to Thai Basil for about 3-4 years from the time they opened until now.  I have gone there 1-2 twice every week since I don't bring lunch to work.  I've got a new job in Sunnyvale, so this will be one of the few things I will miss from my old job.

    Regarding point  1:
I haven't had any BAD food there, but I usually get the following there:

    Pineapple fried rice
Massaman curry lunch special (this is actually not the menu, but they make it for me)
    Basil Eggplant lunch special
    Basil Chili chicken lunch special

By BAD food, i mean something I would never order again after trying it once, something where i felt ripped off, or something that made me physically sick.

In terms of other food, it's ok, not terrible, but I've pretty much accustomed myself to the items I listed above.  I've also tried their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Pepper Garlic Beef.

Every time i've ordered my favorites, I'm never surprised, they take t he same every time i order them.

    Regarding point 2
I usually come after lunch hours, like 1 or 2, so it's not too crowded, but expect to be waiting for tables during lunch hour.  They bring out the food very quickly, within 10 minutes.  I've been getting the items to go mostly, and I appreciate that they don't tack on a to go box fee like some places.  I also appreciate they don't have a minimum amount for a credit card charge.

    Regarding point 3
Their pineapple fried rice is the best in the tri-valley.  They charge 8-9 bucks, most other Thai restaurants charge 1-2 dollars more.  Most of the lunch specials are under 7 bucks, and it's a decent portion.  I used to think a good Pad Thai makes or breaks a authentic Thai Restaurant--now I definitely believe it's a Pineapple Fried Rice.  Thai Cuisine does this the best, the Chinese version doesn't come close.

To summarize, Thai Basil is better than Bangkok 101, better than that thai restaurant in Stoneridge mall, and better than the one next to Trader Joes in Dublin.  Of all those closer restaurants ( I used to work near Stoneridge Mall), I make the drive to Thai Basil because of their consistently good food, fast service (at least in off hour times), and great value.   I hope they continue to do well--obviously they did something right in their original Berkeley location.

This past Saturday I felt like some Thai food.  It was hot summer Saturday and my folks along with girl decided to hit up some Thai up in Dublin after a long few days in the Monterey penisula.  We've been to Thai Basil but I have never taken the time to write a review for them.  So here it goes.

We had to wait to be seated, the restaurant is quite popular with the locals.  We waited about 10 minutes which is what the hostess told us.  10 mins later were seated and ready to order.

Here are the items we ordered

Roti - The roti was decent but I have had better.  Their Roti was different as they were a lot thicker than the ones I am use to.  The sauce was very tasty so I enjoyed it.

Pad Thai - There Pad Thai is delicious.  My mom had said the last time we came it wasn't quite as good and I agree with her. I'm glad with this experience she has regained her liking for Thai food.

Eggplant and Tofu - This was pretty average, nothing really stood out.

Pineapple Rice - This was one of the items that came out last.  We also had regular white rice with our food so we weren't really feeling the pineapple rice but I'm not taking anything away from it.  It was very tasty.

BBQ Beef - This was my favorite dish.  The meat was perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection.  Let's just put it this way, when we left...there wasn't nothing left on the this beef dish.

Curry Chicken with red peppers - This was also very tasty.  We like curry and I hope this restaurant does not use MSG.  I don't think they do.

It's good to know that there is a reliable Thai restaurant no too far away from our home.  I like how this place has kept their prices reasonable. My family enjoyed the meal thoroughly.  It was also refreshing to see a husband and wife team run a moderate sized restaurant without being nasty to each other.  Here's to much continued success and many more delicious eats. I gladly recommend this place if you want an affordable and pleasant dining experience.

Holy cow!  Who knew that a restaurant in a strip mall could taste so good?  There are not a lot of good Thai restaurants in Hayward other than say Red Chili, but this place is very tasty.  We had the pumpkin curry, yellow curry, pineapple fried rice, and the pad see ew.  Out of all them the dishes the one that stood out was the Pad See Ew.

We had it to go as the place is pretty small and can't really seat our family with another family (a total of 7 people).

Thai Basil is my family's favorite place for Thai takeout. Their pad thai, pad see ew and curries are all super tasty.

This place is also a fun sit-down restaurant to check out.

Very friendly service and good food.
