Sadly my favorite Thai restaurant has been off the past couple times.. So sadly I'm not going to js noodles until it gets better! Until and/or if that happens I'm coming here!

Js noodles. Their prices are pretty off for what you get.  Four chicken wings 4.00.. Country pad Thai bout 9.00..  My cousin asked for a fried egg for his dish which it's supposed to come with and charged me 2.00 for one single egg! Their noodles have been either balled up or dry...

Thai basil. First time today I ordered pad Thai.. It was pretty darn good! A bit saucy, but still good... Service was faster and they pit more and better quality shrimp then js.. I checked their website it says it comes with an egg roll, but sadly didn't get it...
They also have Chinese food and Vietnamese noodles too so I'm considering both in near future!

One recommendation when you try pad thai anywhere don't get it too spicy!  The times I get it too spicy I drink a ton of water.. I peri ally think all that water expands the rice noodles expanding in your stomach causing you feeling bloated..

We came here via a recommendation from a friend. Agreeing with all the other positive reviews, it was very very good. I had the yummy coconut shrimp and the pineapple fish curry. I didn't love the spring rolls but the other dishes won me over.
Parking can be a challenge, so definitely try parking on a residential street across the way. I liked the decor, with the traditional Thai wooden enclosed bench seating; it definitely aided the overall ambiance. I'll definitely be back.

Thai basil is everything I wanted in a walking-distance Thai restaurant. It is fast, cheap, delicious, and the portions are large.

    1. Fast: When you place your order, it comes out in less than 10 minutes
    2. Cheap: Even with the dinner prices, I'm paying $8 for my Pad Se Lew. Soups are less than $4 and chock full of chicken. Beers are cheap, too (and not just domestics).
    3. Delicious: Despite the noted lack of authenticity, you can't deny that everything here tastes good, isn't over fried, and looks fresh. I've actually not had a better tasting Pad Se Lew in Denver, though I've had some better Pad Thai.
    4. Portions are large: that $8 Pad Se Lew lasts me Lunch, Dinner, and sometimes a second Lunch.

    Thai Basil is perfect for:
Couples looking for a less expensive, intimate setting.
    Fast and cheap take out.
    A power-lunch to go.

    Dishes to try:
    Pad Se Lew with beef
    Thai coconut chicken soup.
    Sesame Chicken

Panang this place is amazing! A very beautiful woman and I both ordered the panang curry, which is mildly spicy and chock full of voluptuous veggie slices. The curry has tomato slices in it which I feel is a little out of place, but that detraction is more than made up for by the sweet potatoes thrown in. Also, the beers were only 50 cents with the purchase of an entree. Where else can you still get a deal like that?

I take a star away from Thai Basil for their poor seat to table height ratio. Yes, I understand this seems like a minor detail, but it's always a little strange dining in here. The tables were way too tall, and at times I felt like I was awaiting a kindergarten finger-painting project instead of a delicious curry. I felt more awkward than Bill Maher at a Bible study.

I am a big fan of all things Thai, but I think I might've visited this place on an off night. I was delighted to be seated right away in their overly-themed dining area and be at the restaurant during their very well-priced happy hour, but the enjoyment stopped there... for hours.

I ordered a bowl of hot & sour soup and the beef Viatnamese noodle bowl.  I'm not sure which dish caused the problem, but within hours I found myself with a terrible stomach ache, which developed into a two-day bout of food poisoning.  Pretty sure someone didn't use a clean utensil or surface when preparing my dish.  Blech!

I know a lot of people love this place, but I'm not sure that I'll give them a chance to redeem this experience. Even $1 beers can't makeup for that...

Not only the best Thai restaurant in Denver, but also the best Asian restaurant in the city as well. Top that off with cheap prices, huge portions, great service and a a large vegetarian selection.

Random Observation: when you eat here as often as I did (3 or so times a week) everything start tasting very similar. Must be the spices.

The food is good and it is in huge portions, so for the price it is an excellent deal.  Plus, they have $1 beers, and not just the standard Bud and Coors, but good beers like Sapporo and Fat Tire.

The service has always been good in my experience.  I'm not very familiar with traditional Thai dishes, so I can't comment on authenticity, but I liked what I ate, though their dishes marked as "spicy" really aren't.

I am not here to discuss the ins and outs of what qualifies something as "Thai."  Nor am I here to sanctimoniously define the words "Asian Fusion."  I am not a world traveler, or at the very least some foodie from Austin who thinks they can have an opinion about Denver's restaurants.

I come to you as a humble, lowly person.  A person suffering from one of the worst winter colds ever.  After not being able to breathe through my nose for three days, and with tonsils the size of golf balls; after having exhausted over the counter cold medicines and friends' home remedies, I decided to fall back on an old home remedy of my own: go get hot Asian soup and spicy Asian food, grab a box of Kleenex and hope for the best.

I know Thai Basil to be consistent and cheap and am familiar with the level of heat in the foods which they deem spicy.  This is important when you are sick - rely on what you know.  I decided to go with the Hot & Sour Soup and an order of the Thai Basil Chicken.

I sit here, typing this review, shortly after finishing my very generous portion of Hot & Sour Soup.  Thai Basil's actually has a little heat to it.  Enough that my tonsils have been beaten back to regular size and I am now no longer a mouth breather.  Definite recommend for what ails you, if this were the 19th Century I'd bottle this stuff and sell it from town to town as a cure all.

The four stars is more focused on the service, atmosphere, and quality of the food rather than the authenticity.  Yes, the menu contains many, many, many non-Thai dishes, and the ones it does have are pretty cliche.  But, that makes a place like this a good starter place in case you ever find yourself in a situation where you might be taking less food experienced folks out to dinner and the thought of 'Thai' food sounds scary...*cough cough mom and dad cough*.  And the food they do serve is good...just not something you'd find in Thailand per se (BTW, IS there a really authentic Thai place in Denver?  I've been searching...)

Since I live so close I usually order delivery and they are always on time and with the correct order, but I did go in this weekend to eat, and it had been a long time and the experience was so nice that I thought I'd share...

Walked in on Saturday night with a friend of mine, place was crowded.  Two tables were left.  The 2 top by the door (on this chilly night) or a 4 seater in the back of the restaurant.  The waitress asked if we would take the 2 top, and I just asked if she had anything else away from the door (I didn't see, at this point, how many empty tables there were).  Her first reaction is that they did but that they were waiting on a reservation, then she looked around the restaurant and noticed another table paying their check, so she seated us at the 4 top table.  That extra effort to please a customer is so nice.  I'm not going to lie, as a former waitress it is annoying when people make special requests on a busy Friday night, but that little extra is something that left my friend and I in good spirits that lasted all the way through until the time to tip our wonderful waitress :)

The second nice thing that happened is that we decided to order a bottle of cold sake and right away we were informed that we should just order it by the glass since it was 2-for-1 on all glasses of wine/sake and I think beer.  Thank you very much!!!  She was in no way obligated to share this info with us, but it was very much appreciated.

The food is fine.  Like I mentioned, not necessarily what you'd find on a beach in Phuket, but they use fresh ingredients, nice sauces, and don't skimp on things that I've seen at other restaurants (i.e. my shrimp dish had plenty of shrimp in it...I hate ordering a shrimp dish that has 4 shrimp in it and 5 lbs of bok choy)

So we walked out warm...from our table setting, from the 1/2 price sake, from our waitresses happy demeanor, and from the large portion of food we received.

Thai Basil is 100% NOT authentic.  The flavor is OK but overall I'm disappointed.  Here's why:

    - the main ingredient in the Phad Thai sauce is ketchup (gasp!)

    - the flat rice noodles in the Phad See Lew are skinny (they're supposed to be wide!)

    - their spice ratings are wimpy (we ordered "spicy" but it had barely any spice at all!)

Bleh.  Don't think I'll go back.

Great place for take out! I can't comment on the dine-in experience, but the food is delicious and priced right for take out.

We had drunken noodles, pad thai, hot and sour soup, sizzling rice soup, curry, and a veggie dish. Everything was SO tasty! I absolutely loved the sizzling rice soup, but wish it had a little more shrimp in it.

This may become my go-to take out Thai place!

When looking for a nice thai place for lunch, my friend and I pulled this off a list from google maps.  We chose Thai Basil initially because the name screamed authentic thai options.  Parking was not convenient, but the place was packed, which was a good sign.

We were not disappointed.  The food was spot on with large portions.  Neither one of us could finish our dishes.  I got the Panang curry with chicken.  My friend got Pad Thai.

My judge of good Thai is usually based on how well the Pad Thai is prepared.  It wasn't phenomenal or life-changing, but very good.  I recommend it.

Here is what is great about Thai Basil: 50 cent beers and dependable (yet predictable) chinese/thai/vietnamese dishes.

The food is fine. Nothing to rave about, but not bad. I have had the sesame chicken and the Vietnamese rice bowl. But you too have had this food before, and you will have it again.... maybe that is part of the draw. Another draw is the price. You can walk out of that place for 12 bucks, be happy, full, and buzzed. Can't say that too often. The service is fine, they are happy to turn your table but can you blame them?

My recommendation: Bring friends, order some predictably delicious Sesame Chicken, have three beers, and then walk to Candlelight and get drunk. Sounds like a pretty great Friday (or Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday - not Monday, that is the day you are supposed to get your shit together, duh).

We land at DIA and my husband tells me we are going to meet some friends for Thai food. He tells me his friend Jaime picked the restaurant, My response to him, "You trust Jaime's recommendation fro Thai food?" So let me explain why I made this comment...my husband is half Chinese half Thai. His family in Austin is his mother's side so they are all Thai...needless to say, I know good Thai cooking and therefore, am a tough critic when it comes to Thai food.

Anyway, so we get to this restaurant ( we were an hour late due to our flight being delayed -- thanks Southwest, you suck) and they had ordered a few appetizers. The mussels were delicious as were the spring rolls (but you really can't screw up on those, can you?)

The waiter comes by to take our beverage and meal order. I asked for a Thai Iced Coffee. His response, "I'm sorry we don't have Thai Iced Coffee." Ok, let me preface the following review by stating that the fact that  they didn't not have Thai Iced Coffee is a black mark and the first sign that this dining experience was going to be a disapointment.

My husband ordered Spicy Basil Chicken with 2 fried eggs (a typical Thai dish). He also asked for the fishsauce with chili (also a common staple for Thai cooking) and the waiter said they didn't have that either!! (Second sign that this dining experience was not going to be good :-( ) His Spicy Basil Chicken was not spicy :-(  I ordered Sesame Scallops -- the batter was too sweet so I ended up removing the batter and eating just the scallops. My gf ordered Soft Shelled Crab with a curry sauce and she said her meal was only ok.

Overall, the food portions were huge, the food was mediocre, the price - well it was fair. I KNOW GOOD THAI and this was not it. It was too Americanized so it lacked authenticity.

Probably won't be coming back here anytime soon.

I moved from Chicago in Aug and we trip over excellant thai food walking down the street in Chicago. This would not last a month there.
I ordered the Shrimp in Tamarind Sauce which was described as citrus and tangy tamarind with jalepano for heat. The dish came out super fast and to be fair, the portion is sufficent and the shrimp were well cooked. The rest of the dish demonstrates why they are so fast: rather than cooking a dish, they toss ingredients together. The sauce was as sweet as pancake syrup, overwhelmed the delicate shrimp and lacked nuance or flavor (some garlic, ginger, vinegar or way less fructose would help). The sauce in turn was overwhelmed by the raw - yes raw onions tossed in, the green peppers were also raw and raw onion just is harsh. There was also celery, two small spears of zuke - not a single asian vegetable and like I said, I had the sense they tossed the shrimp on, drowned it in sauce and then realized they needed to add vegs and didn't cook.
This not only was not good thai, its not good cooking.
My friends dish to be fair was better - tequila beef served on broccoli but also a tad sweet. Service was awful but they were busy and the tables are not comfortable.
Not Thai, not basil (or flavored). Not worth going to ...

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, and I don't know if my tastes have changed over the years, or their food has gone downhill.
First of all, I always like the decor.  The place is crammed with tons of neat antiques, and if you're lucky enough to get a back booth it feels very private.  Service is so-so these days.  Came in to try the 50 cent beer special, and was dismayed that they don't include a bowl of soup as a dinner item, even though the price is comparable.
As for the food, the Pad See Ew (my mainstay) was overly sweet, with tough, chewy noodles and triangles of old or over-fried tofu.  I ate a lot of it, because I was very hungry, but I wasn't happy about it.
I think I'll wait a while before giving this place another try.

Not the best service ever, but a surprisingly good Thai restaurant to find in the mile-high city.  I can highly recommend the chicken curry/peanut dish (though I did find it highly odd that they serve a maraschino cherry atop the brown rice).  And the happy hour pricing for accompanying beverages is decent.

This place is always amazing with the best damn sesame chicken in the world.  They also have a panang peanut sauce you can get as a side for a dip that is truly memorable.
They are always busy, which kindof sucks but the food is worth the wait.
I do have to complain about how uncomfortable the seating is though.  They have these big wooden chairs that are hard and so low that you aren't high enough to the table.  very strange!

Luscious aromas always waft from this popular neighborhood restaurant. Thai Basil is good for delivery or eating in. The delivery is quick and accurate. The only caveat about eating in is that the chairs were selected primarily for the look of them and not the comfort. The portions are huge, but occasionally tastes hastily made and the chicken can be overcooked (which I will grant is preferable to undercooked).

The wait isn't usually long for dining in and with an eclectic ambiance, time passes pleasantly while you are waiting for your food to arrive. The service is pretty good, but I have on occasion had a hard time flagging down the server for a water refill. Best when the weather is nice and you are seated in the outside dining area encircled in the twinkling lights.

My wife and I recently had a craving for Thai food.  Opting not to drive down to our favorite (Wild Ginger in Littleton), we ducked in to Thai Basil for dinner.

I had good memories of the place from visits several years back, but I was pretty disappointed this time.  We strayed away from our favorites of Green Curry Anything and Pad Thai to branch out a little.  We ordered what I suppose is their signature dish, Thai Basil Chicken, and Thai Spicy Shrimp with Tomato and Basil.  My mouth watered as we waited.

Presentation and portion size were both pluses.  Meat and vegetables were of reasonable quality as well.  That's where my kudos end and complaints begin.  Neither dish, though labeled as spicy, was hot at all.  I'm sure spices went into the recipes, but that alone does not make a dish spicy.  Also, the sauces were thick and sweet in the American Chinese food tradition.  In other words, these dishes were a far cry from authentic.  I knew that the shrimp dish with its tomatoes would not be authentic, but I thought that perhaps it would be a slight variation on a Thai recipe.

Next time, we'll drive those extra miles to Wild Ginger.

It is true that the tables at Thai Basil are too high or the chairs too low so that you feel (as Nicholas N. says) that you are planning an evil plot to rule the world. The one table that has the material covering it much like an outdoor tent doesn't really ease that feeling. Or the chairs could make you feel like Kevin B. says - as though you're a child that was just promoted to the grown-ups table at Thanksgiving. Either way it's pretty uncomfortable and the reason Thai Basil doesn't get 5 stars from me.

But, it is also true that Thai Basil has delicious dishes and great service. We ate dinner there the other night and even though we were sat in the enclosed patio area at almost the exact time as all of the other tables our service never really lagged. And the servings are so big you'll definitely have leftovers.

We had crab cheese wantons for an appetizer that were just right - crispy without hurting the roof of your mouth and I had Kung Pao chicken for my meal. Does that count as Thai? I don't know, but I do know it was still good the next day and I'm not really a leftovers kind of girl. Plus they have a pretty good plum wine if you like sweet drinks. All in all a delightful dinning experience.

PREFACE: There are various Thai Basil's around the Denver metro area and I've been to a couple, but this review is for only this one location.

So I want to talk about a couple of things here.

First, we were seated at a table that was extraordinarily high and it was really weird.  The table was so tall and the light was so dim that I felt like I was planning some evil plot to rule the world (or at least try to rule it).  Then, once I ordered my food and it came, it was in a really awesome elaborate dish with an open-flame heating element under it, but the table was so high that I could barely see into my dish since it too was very tall and steamy.  It made eating everything pretty awkward.  But, whatever, it was more funny than annoying.

As for my food, I love Thai food and other asian foods and I like this place because they create to a variety of asian dishes, from curry and pad thai to seasame chicken.  This evening in particular, I got the Panag Curry with chicken and it was delicious.  The curry was spicy and still slightly sweet, the chicken portion was nice and big, and the vegetables and bamboo were fantastic.  I give it gigantic thumbs up and was very satisfied.

So, in summary, it was a great dinner at a very tall table with short chairs.  I'd recommend asking to sit in the main dining area and not the covered patio (which is where we were).  But you should totally go and eat some curry, if you like that sort of thing, you know, sweet dinner foods and such.

Not the place for Thai fanatics, though the beer prices are awesome. I just don't get why this place is so popular (they have several locations now). Maybe it *is* the beer prices?

The food is more fusion than Thai, and our meals tasted just okay. And they served me cold rice that didn't have a good texture. If you can't get the rice right, I won't come back to your restaurant and give you more of my money. (Unless it's beer money, I suppose.)

I feel I have to defend Thai Basil's honor. Since there are too many bad reviews here.

*Disclaimer, I understand they have Thai in the name, but get over it; it's Asian.

*Disclaimer II, I've only eaten in restaurant once and yeah the experience is not as good as the delivery experience.

With my disclaimers out of the way. The good:

    ~ Delivery is fast
    ~ Prices are quite reasonable
~ The basil dishes are good. I love the duck, my Chinese nieces & I devour the duck when they come over.

Summary: I can really only speak to delivery; but give it a shot. You shouldn't be disappointed. If you find better Thai / Asian delivery for Bonnie Brae / Wash Park, let me know.

The outside is so appealing.  They have flowing purple curtains that dance in the breeze as  you drive by, and it makes you want to stop and eat.  Really, I would say the exterior is like a siren, calling you in.  But don't do it!

The place looks good but the food stinks!  Instead of finely crafted meals that would match the dcor, you end up with fried, cheap Chinese food.  Blah!  The prices are way too high to get served what you could get a few blocks down for $.99 a scoop.  So, keep sailing by and remember that siren looks good now, but both you and your digestive tract will be upset if you step in for a bite.

The decor is so good here that I'd like to give it 3 stars, but the food is so bad that I can't.

Their coconut chicken soup is pretty decent.

    Everything else is bad.

There are two schools of pad thai. Peanut butter, which is the good kind, and Ketchup which is that bad kind.

It's very common in pacific rim food to find ketchup in food, but one place that you don't want to find it is in your pad thai.

It makes it sticky and sweet, and almost inedible.

I had previously had pad thai delivered from thai basil and had apparently forgotten that their recipe stinks.

My girlfriend ordered the sesame chicken. It was an INSULT to sesame chicken.

Sesame chicken should be a light, golden yellow. The chicken should be moist and even in consistency.

The sesame chicken at thai basil is dark, sticky, and dry. It's almost as if it's burned and then a dark sauce is put over it. It was nearly inedible to me, though she didn't think it was atrocious as I did.

The one bonus was that my pad thai had a CRAPLOAD of shrimp in it. They are certainly not trying to cut costs, they just aren't doing well.

If you're craving a thai fix, head to Tommy's Thai or US Thai if you HAVE to eat in the Denver metro. Wild Ginger for my money makes the best pad thai in town.

I've been twice, and I think it is pretty damn good... for Asian food in Denver.

The tables and chairs seem to be made for taller people, which can be a turn off, but I think it actually adds to the charm of the place. The decor is a mix of modern and older Asian flare, some would probably call it gaudy or hokey - yes us Asians can be that sometimes. :) The service is pretty good, they leave you alone for the most part and don't rush right up to you the moment you put your fork down -- attentive but not intrusive. The portions are a good size, easily shareable for two people. I usually eat a lot but I haven't been able to finish an entire plate of food here.

First time here I ordered the tequilla lime beef, which was strips of beef and tons of veggies. I found it well balanced and quite tasty. the beef wasn't overcooked and the vegetables were cooked to the right temperature (slightly crunchy, not hard or soggy). The second time around I ordered the sizzling beef plate. It was supposed to be spicy but I couldn't taste any heat in it. The dish itself was prepared in a black pepper sauce that needed a little more black pepper, but black pepper sauces are typically sweet. The beef was again cooked with perfection, and the veggies in a similar fashion. The flavors worked well together.

I like that they don't put soy sauce on the table because, as we all know, there is plenty of salt in Asian food, and I hate seeing people douse their Asian food in soy sauce - soy sauce is the base of all Asian food!

I've yet to have a drink here, but the beer and wine list looked average. I'll be back, especially since it's right up the street from me. :)

This place is right in my hood, and usually hits the spot when I'm craving some curry. I went more frequently when I first moved to Denver; their food is okay, I wouldn't say it's anything special.

I would say it's a good place for lunch. The prices are nice, you get lots of meat and tasty veggies in your meal. None of the dishes are great (though I'll have to try the Tequila Lime Beef after reading the other reviews), but nothing is really bad and the ingredients always seem fresh. Their curries are not very spicy, I haven't tried anything there that was spicy at all actually (except for when my friend ordered the "thai style hot wings", which were so spicy they were inedible).

For dinner, the prices are a couple dollars more for everything, and while the servings are larger it's not really worth the extra money. In my experience, with curries especially, you get the same amount of meat with extra sauce and veggies. I would actually give them two stars as a dinner joint. The last time I got the Curry Chicken with Peanut Sauce and I had to hunt for the few scraps of chicken in with massive amounts of cauliflower (should be called Curry Cauliflower with Peanut Sauce). But the decently priced lunch gets the extra star, especially since the meat/veggies are better proportioned for those dishes (before 3pm I believe).

I'll go back though, when I'm too lazy to drive to Tommy's Thai or J's Noodles.

I come back over and over for the Tequila Lime Beef. The variety of fresh veggies you get is excellent, and the sauce that comes with this entree is sooooo good. They will also let you substitute brown rice if you are watching those calories.

The portions are so big that one entree is enough for 2 full meals. I usually take half home and eat the rest for lunch the next day.

Also, I just found out they deliver. Be still my heart.

Parking is doable, but not easy (it's off-street). It's also a smaller restaurant so don't bring a large group. And don't sit on the patio unless you like being hot and cramped as hell.

Other than that, good portions, surprisingly good prices, and tasty food.

Great place for a variety of Thai food.

I'm a bit picky with the Basil Chicken as I feel there is way too much basil...but the flavor is top notch.

I couldn't find another good place in town for Sizzling Rice Soup, so if that's one of your favorites too, go check this place out.

Too much sauce, too sweet -- on all the dishes.  More like iffy Chinese food than the clean tastes we enjoy at other Thai restaurants.

It is what it is.  OK - generic Americanized Asian.  I just live a few blocks away and get takeout or delivery probably more often than I should.  Convince yourself that it's healthy, because most dishes have a lot of veggies, if you can.  But, the truth is almost everything is drenched in oil.  Plus portions are huge - good news if you spread it out over a couple of meals  - not such good news if  you eat it all in one sitting.

Service, if you dine in, is typically efficient but not particularly friendly with the exception of the main hostess (maybe an owner) - her name is pronounced "Eye" (have no idea how to spell it) but she never forgets a face, where you've been on vacation, etc.  Really the personality of the place.

The best thing on the menu - Thai Spring Rolls (refreshingly not fried) with an addictive peanut dipping sauce.  The curries are all pretty decent although not spicy enough for my taste.  The Thai BBQ chicken is great as well but what is Thai about it eludes me completely.  All the stir fries are dependable if not world rocking.  My biggest criticism is that no matter how many times you ask for a dish extra spicy you are going to get it mild.  Lots of options for the veggie folk.

So, if you're looking for anything approaching authentic Thai - this ain't it.  Wanna fill up on acceptable Asian for cheap?  Not a bad choice.

Are you people out of your damn minds? This place is nasty cheap Chinese food in disguise. Had sriracha beef and basil chicken, both pitifully mild and had more oil than (insert tasteless Gulf joke). Will not be returning.

It was really loud when we were here but there was a big party of women sitting around being women.  lol.  We ate dinner for 25 bucks including tip.  My boyfriend had two beers (all beer is .50 with entree) and The Spicy Eggplant.  I had Thai iced tea and Pad Thai.  The portions were extra huge....I have enough leftover for two more meals.  The food was good. It wasn't stellar  but good.  nice quality and presentation.  pad thai came with huge tasty shrimp and chicken.  Service speedy and good. And to comment on all of the haters on here--Do you not understand what Asian fusion means?
