I went in last Sunday and asked for Joann, like the last review said and as someone who has been to almost every place in three zip codes to get my nails done, I wasn't expecting much.
Joann surprised me. She didn't get as much of the dead skin off my feet as I had hoped, but other than that, I'm in love! She took her time and massaged my legs forever! I felt really spoiled! I wished she would never stop! But, she did and then put the prettiest red polish on my toes.
Then we moved on to my fingers. She seemed a little rushed, but I think there was someone waiting for her. The manicure was superb though. The little massage before the polish goes on was one of the best I'd ever had, and that she didn't seem to rush. Once again, more pretty polish.
Joann is so friendly and nice and except for the dead skin thing this would be a 5 star review for her alone! Thanks Wendi! Great recommendation and I'll try not to steal your appointment time!
Living on Southport, I am overloaded with mani/pedi choices. I started with Pinky's but after my first mani, my nails chipped within the first day. So, I went to a few others before I found Tg.
Joann has become the only person who I'll let touch my nails. She does a great job on my fingers and toes and the massages she gives are AMAZING!!! She's only at the Southport store on Sundays, the rest of the time she's at the Diversey one. She's so nice and great to talk to. Go see her, you'll be so happy you did.
They are always great when I smear my nails in the store, which I always do. The color choices are great and I've always left feeling pretty and soooo relaxed. They just moved to a bigger spot, but I won't be there until Sunday, so I didn't review the space.
I had some time to kill while my friends were getting massages next door at Pure Nirvana Spa so I decided to have a mani/pedi. In retrospect, I should have just had it done at the spa because they were only charging about $10 more.
I did, however, enjoy a few things about TG. They have some of the most amazing massage chairs I have ever seen. The chair almost grips your back and it kneads like real hands. How does it do that? Very relaxing. Also, they use a very nice scrub on your legs, which felt wonderful. And, finally, my neck was rubbed twice (by real hands, not the chair) while I was there.
Nice extra touches, but I am going to stick to my regular joint as I get a great mani/pedi there that is much cheaper.
Amazing! They have recently moved to a new location a couple doors down and it is amazing! It is impeccably clean and so welcoming! I used to go to Pinky's down the street but after coming to TG I have not gone back! For a $12 manicure you get a wonderful manicure AND a small massage (one at the manicure table and one at the dry table). They also have massages too--- $10 for 10 minutes and $20 for 20 minutes. I couldn't resist after seeing a few women get it and it was AMAZING. Soo relaxing! They also have waxings and special spa manicures/pedicures. I can't wait to go back! Although on a weekend I would recommend making an appointment cus they get pretty packed.
I have been going to TG for ages and it feels like home. Uugii (I hope I spelled that right!) is a sweetheart and has made my nails look great for years. I had her do my brows once and now she is my regular for those as well. I have my own set of tools there and they run the place like a fine oiled machine. If they are running even 5 minutes late for your appointment, they will call you. Kudos on the remodeling job - the place looks really nice.
today i lived the life of a gold coast trophy wife. slept in. ate some pancakes. treated myself to a massage, then a mani/pedi. i could get used to this!!! oh wait. i'm NOT a gold coast trophy wife, and do in fact need to work to earn these little treats. dang.
but, i digress.
TG Nails was a blissful addition to my day of pure decadence. i ducked inside a little before 3 and was ushered to select a nail color from the colorful wall of options. after much deliberation, i went with an essie color called "Fiesta" - it fit my mood for fun :)
i was then directed to a massage chair where my luxurious pedicure began. i opted not to play with the massage chair controls, having just come from a fabulous massage myself. but from what i overheard from the chair down the way, the massage features do not disappoint! :)
the pedicure was very thorough, involving the usual soaking, scrubbing, filing, buffing, trimming...and what's this? exfoliating and massaging??? FABULOUS! one point of contention - as a runner, my toes are very tender. i happened to have two blisters, one on each middle toe, and the nail tech was a little rough with one of them - she actually removed the blister, and it stung to high heaven when she applied one of the many chemicals they apply along the way. ouchie! BUT, the pedicure turned out beautiful, and my piggies are pretty once more :)
30 minutes later, i was escorted toward the manicure station. once again, i was treated to a massage, this time to my shoulders, arms and hands. my digits were soaked, filed, trimmed and polished to perfection. i'm now sportin' some poppin' color that manages to make my short short finger nails look fresh and pretty. best $40 i've spent in a while!!
TG is great. The TG pedicure is completely worth the $32, if you schedule at an "off" time (weekday afternoon before 4), you will get rubbed and rubbed and rubbed....
For $32 you get exfoliated to your knees, massaged with oil and lotion, and then slapped with a hot towel. It's completely worth it, especially for the price.
The estheticians don't speak to you much and this leaves you to enjoy the massage chairs, free candy, and Law and Order re-runs on the massive flat screen tvs.
TG rules.
Yaaaay my go-to place for manicures and pedicures!!
This place is waaaaaaay better than Digits or Vie's (in the area).
The manicures are only $12 (instead of $15 at nearby places) and they do great arm, back, and neck massages. They are very organized and clean and somehow every time I go I am able to get a spot pretty quickly. If you have to wait more than 15 minutes, head to Starbucks or one of the cute clothing stores. They will call you when they can fit you in!!
My mani/pedi combos always last for a really long time and are equal in cost, if not cheaper, than all nearby places.
I find it to be a more comfortable atmosphere than Pinky's or Nailbar.
They have GREAT color selection and the TV is always on something fun like E!
I lived on the "Southport Corridor" circa 2004 -- I like to say it was before it exploded into the current trixie/chad situation (truth is it was probably already well on its way). And while I don't return there often to eat or drink, I do return for one thing: TG NAILS.
Its more recent popularity has caused a slight decline in quality of service (hence one star off), but I still think it's one of the best mani/pedis around. When I first started going, it would take a good hour and a half or more for a mani/pedi -- they would spend a LOT of time on the massages and they do this great exfoliation scrub on your legs. They also give you a great back massage during your manicure. Last time I went (a couple months ago, I'm not an every week/month type gal), the time spent on massaging was a bit shorter.
They have a HUGE, fresh color selection, and I think their polish work is great. It always lasts me a good long while. The massage chairs are fantastic, there is usually a good movie playing and lots of magazines. The staff is friendly and everything looks exceptionally clean. At $40 for the combo, it ain't a bad deal. Yes, there are cheaper, but you get what you pay for here -- a quality mani/pedi experience.
I wouldn't go here if you're in a big hurry and just want to get your nails done quickly. This is the place to spend an afternoon off, sipping a latte from Julius Meinl down the street and enjoying yourself. Make an appointment for sure, especially if you're going during peak hours (evenings, weekends).
I will most likely be heading here with my bridal party before my wedding!
I have to be honest - I debated about posting this review because I just can't deal with it getting any busier at T.G. Nails. I can barely get an appointment anymore and hell, forget about just walking in on a Saturday.
But yes, it is awesome. I've been going here since 2002 and I only go somewhere else when absolutely forced to. My nails always last, the massages kick ass, and it's cheap. If you're expecting an upscale salon vibe....well, this isn't it. But who cares? T.G. rocks.
I went to the shop on SoPo. Wanted that Fri afternoon day off with my Starbucks drink experience, and I got it.
I loved this place. My only complaint- I was meeting a friend-she came a couple minutes later (b/c of trouble parking)...in the 5 mins before she got there, 3 other girls came in and were seated all around me, so we couldn't sit together for our pedicures. We were able to sit together for manicures, after I asked so that was nice.
This is a busy place! make an appointment, and enjoy yourself! it's got all the SoPo character you'd expect.
The mini massages are a perk, though I wasn't a fan of putting my forehead down on the table (after they hadn't really cleaned it up from the girl before...)
Good polish selection, the biggest I've seen of OPI around this n'hood.
It is like the mani pedi factory a little cause it's so crowded, but I will go back. Next time I'll try the shop on Diversey. Can't beat $40 with tip!
Update of my Update. Got the Mani-Pedi this past Friday, it's Monday and my nails look like a pile of crap-monkeys...I'm not in a terribly workin-with-my-hands-kind of way and my nails are a chippin'. BAD. No more TG for me.

Went here today for a mani-pedi (something I hardly ever do.) It was ok, and the price is right (I… Read more »
Not impressed. My manicurist looked angry at life. I also had to sit there waiting for at least 20 mins. In the end, she didn't even do a great job.
So a few weeks ago, they had a special if you bought a mani/pedi you got a free gift certificate for a mani! I looooooooove it! Oh the chairs there almost bruised me with the massage action which is not a bad thing since I had some major knots!

Like I mentioned in my previous review, I decided to go to TG Nails as opposed to CiCi Nails. I was… Read more »
This is a much better mani/pedi option than some of the upscale, pricey options on Southport - $40 for the combo isn't too bad. The place is clean and big and the girls do really good work. They're also heavy on the massages which is never a bad thing. Great selection of polishes too! I'd recommend an appointment though because they seem to get pretty busy.
Listen up Ladies! TG has another location open on Diversey @ Wolcott (just East of Clybourn)...and the whole "mani/pedi" experience is just as good! This would make sense since the shop is owned by the same people and many of the same women work at both locations. Jessica does my nails, she's great and she even tells me when she doesn't like the color I have picked! If you can't get in at Southport, try to get in on Diversey, it's well worth it to stick with TG!
Big fan of this place! I like that they give massages as an included service, the manicures last, and they are friendly. I would like to be able to just walk in, however it does seem like you need an appointment most times when I want to get my nails done. As another reviewer said though, that's a good sign!
The only bad thing about this place is that it's a little bit difficult to just walk-in for an appointment but I guess that speaks to how good they are. The manicures and pedicures are the best that i've ever had, they have other services but I've never used them. I used to bartend and the manicure would last me a full weekend of work and that's basically unheard of. Pedicures are great and outlast even themselves. And the absolute bonus is the massage you get with your service. Manicure, pedicure, whatever....you always get some kind of massage.
I went to TG Nails last weekend based on the reviews on Yelp. I really enjoyed getting the mani/pedi - it was really relaxing and didn't feel rushed. The quick massages were awesome. I think they have a good polish selection and I didn't have to wait for my appointment. My only complaint is that within 2 days my nail polish has cracks running through 6 of my fingers. I was under the hand dryer for 35 minutes, so I'm not sure if that's my fault or due to the nail tech's application. Also - I looked on their website and found a coupon for a free manicure certificate if you purchase a mani/pedi by the end of June.
