Visited the Texas State Aquarium this past weekend. We were able to find parking close to the entrance. The entrance line was long and hot but moved quickly.

The Aquarium is small and filled with families and kids. Even with a great deal of patience, there were several exhibits I couldn't get anywhere near.

Nevertheless, there were several good displays - fish, sharks, sea horses, jelly fish, stingrays, otters, dolphins, sea turtles, etc. There is even a hands-on area for kids.

We did not go to the dolphin show, but we go to underwater viewing are to watch them frolic and it was fun (and in the air conditioning).

Overall, it was a pleasant experience but would be better for a family with kids. It is within walking distance of other attractions though, which is nice. Also, you can get a coupon at the Corpus Convention and Visitors Bureau website to get $1 off admission.

I think everyone has the same idea about the Texas State Aquarium- I remember coming here when I was in middle school thinking it was so cool- but now ... it seems so small. Especially for the price you pay.
We went on a Saturday, so every child seemed to be there.
The fish exhibits were great and we got to see Dolphins underwater as well as otters, turtles and the American Bald Eagle. All the shows they have were too far in between so we missed out.
For the amount you pay, we thought it would be better
And I would 100% agree with Kimmie- about the great for kids, not so much for adults.

Well we finally made it to the Texas State Aquarium.  We were able to find parking even though the lot said it was full, and it was very close to the entrance and that was awesome - especially since it was pouring down rain.  There was an extremely long line to the entrance, but we got in very quickly so that was a plus.  The greeters worked fast and hard.

That being said as the previous yelpers stated, the Aquarium is relatively small and over croweded with kiddies.  Nevertheless, there were plenty of fish, jelly fish, stingrays, frogs, boas, otters, dolphins, snakes, sharks and a lonely sea turtle.  Why they had a huge tank and one sea turtle was pretty sad.

We did not go to the dolphin show, but we overheard several say that it was pretty lame.  We got to see the dolphins just swimming around and that was enough.

On a sad note, they have an American Bald Eagle caged up and a white tailed hawk.  There is just something that is not right when you see raptors so majestic, yet they are caged up and cannot fly or do anything other than just stare back at you.  It really does take away from their beauty and I am sure they lose their edge.

If you have a small child I recommend you definitely take a stroller and a baby bjorn if you have one as people can bump into you without knowing it since have of the rooms are dark.  Make sure you look at the pirahnas.  They are some ugly looking suckas and they straight look at you with such disdain.  It is actually quite comical to see them just chilling in their tank knowing that they are saying to themselves, I wanna chomp you up, I wanna eat your family!!!  Mike Tyson ain't got nothing on these fish.

The sting rays were awesome.  They just come right up to you and you can pet them.  Definitely a kiddie favorite, okay one of my favorites too!

Overall, it was a pleasant experience and great for the kids, but I really don't see anyone going more than once, twice if you are bored.

Going to CC, this is one of the places we were excited about visiting.
Admission tickets is ~$15 each

Upon our arrival, we thought the aquarium would be bigger inside...  Aquarium consists of 3 floors: The ground floor, 2nd floor, and the 3rd floor [which is just the library].

Fish exhibits were cool....We took a picture next to a alligator, and it attacked but from the inside of the tank of course.  Dolphin exhibit and presentation was fun, too. I think that was my first time seeing a dolphin up close and personal.  Saw a shark, Nemo and Dory [lol], 200yr old sea turtle [cute],  touched a stingray. Basically this aquarium included the expected fish and birds and random reptiles and amphibians.

I think we expected more from the aquarium because it IS named "Texas State Aquarium" ... however, our expectations I were too high.  Aquarium was much smaller than I thought, but the argument would probably be how big can an aquarium get.

I agree with Daryl T. It was nice for what it was, but not nearly as big or extensive as one would think. If you have kinds under 10 I would say you definitely have to go as they have a great play area as well as the fishes and other underwater animals. They do have several shows though-out the day, but the only one we caught was the Dolphin show. It consisted of 2 trainers and 2 porpoises, and 1 emcee who narrated the whole thing. Again, great for kids, probably not so much for adults. I would recommend going there, but just don't go with super high "Sea World" like hopes.
