1101 S Mo Pac ExpyQuestionable order of service by the hostess. It was just my girlfriend and I; two groups of three who had arrived after us were seated before us, in booths just like the one we were eventually seated at 10 minutes later. Waiter was a decent guy with a sense of humor but kept disappearing for large periods of time.
Steaks came out lukewarm and our done-ness preferences had been switched. Otherwise, the steaks fulfilled our yearning for some slabs of red meat.

I used to eat at the Dallas location a lot; and just recently ate at this location to celebrate a friends birthday. I have always experienced good food and service at this chain restaurant. The prices are much cheaper than some of the other steak houses and the food is just as good. In addition to steak they also offer chicken, fish and salads.
The Shrimp & Avocado Cocktail and the Fried Jalapenos are a great way to start. My medium rare Fillet Mignon has always been cooked to perfection no extra seasoning necessary. The Smoked Sirloin is also a good choice. I have yet to have any of the chicken dishes; but, I do recall the Trout being very good. The garlic mashed potatoes are sinfully rich so I appreciate that the broccoli is steamed.
Also, This place is good for large groups and takes reservations..
Wonderful casual steakhouse chain. The prices here are great with most entrees (which includes a side and a soup or salad) under $20. The grilling was nicely done and the service was excellent. One of my friend's ribeye was noticeably overcooked for a medium rare and the general manager came to offer his apologies. My friend got a sample of the smoked sirloin (smoky and peppery) while waiting for a new steak as well as a comp dessert. They wanted our experience to be a pleasant one and they succeeded. I highly recommend their signature smoked sirloin & lobster tail combo (a steal at $20) and fried shrimp (plump and crispy). For sides, I love their thin crispy fries.

I am not a fan of this place. Every time I eat here (which is way too often, because a couple of my coworkers really like it), I come away feeling like I have a ball of greasy meat in my gut. Probably because I do. I have tried getting something else, but nothing other than the steak is worth getting. Everything is way over-flavored, too; the salads are just swimming in dressing, and the appetizers are smothered in spices and oil. Blech. The only thing worth eating here is the fabulous sourdough bread, which comes hot and served on its own wooden cutting board with butter and a big knife. If I could get away with eating that for my meal, I would.

back in the days of college youth, i used to work here. i have to give this establishment props to helping me gain 25lbs. imagine eating steak and sourdough bread every day. that's what i did. every freaking day....in some sort of fashion. honestly speaking, the steaks aren't too bad.
they do have many other interesting items:
-caesar salad, very spicy!
-fried pickles w/ white bbq (oh the dipping sauce is so good!)
-mesquite grilled trout
-chili cheese enchiladas
-wedge salad
-cobb salad
-jack daniel's pie
if you are in the area, it's a good place to fill yourself up but i wouldn't go there specifically. too many fat memories.

Consistent steak house, but kind of depressing inside with this rudimentary western extravaganza, with no character whatsoever...it's called AUSTIN Land and Cattle, and we could be anywhere...
Staff here are borderline Children of the Corn, giving me nothing to go on, as well as make me nervous, and although I'm a sucker for a nicely prepared steak, I just want to gorge, pay out the ass (it's not THAT affordable), and go.
Doesn't come anywhere close to the excitement of Sullivan's, another chain that seems to get it.

Austin has more steak restaurants then you can imagine. From one-off, upscale spots to casual chains to upscale chains to one-off casual places, there are plenty of places to get a steak in Austin.
That said, Texas Land and Cattle does an excellent job combining both quality food and upscale service with a comfortable, not-too-stuffy environment. I wouldn't wear a suit to eat here, but TL&C could as easily be a nice date spot as a place to stop in with friends for some good food and revelry.
TL&C is comparable to Salt Grass in it's menu choices, decor, and pricing. You aren't likely to break the bank here, but don't go in with $10, if you know what I mean. On a recent dinner visit, my wife and I spent about $35 if I recall correctly, and that included an appetizer and one beer.
The steak choices are plentiful and not over-seasoned. I've had great meals there and good meals there, but never do I recall having a bad meal at TL&C.
The Rollingwood location is a fine place to grab lunch if you are in the downtown, Westlake/Bee Caves area.

We've been grabbing lunch to go at Texas Land & Cattle on South Mopac for almost two years now. My boss loves the steak nachos and the fried jalapenos. My co-worker loves the shrimp cocktail and the baked potato. I love the fries. Crispy and battered, I think they're better than the Hyde Park fries everyone raves about. (But I don't like potatoey fries...)
TLC, as its called by regulars (or maybe we just call it that...I'm not sure...but I think it has garnered this nickname)...anyway, TLC is a small, moderately priced chain with about 20 locations throughout the West. There are four Austin restaurants and they all look and feel like a chain steakhouse would. But, our office keeps going back to this particular joint in 78746 because the service is fast and the food is g-o-o-d.
TLC has a bustling lunch crowd, mainly composed of casual business meetings and friends meeting to grab a noontime steak. Our order is generally ready in under 20 minutes, which is impressive in itself, but it's also always accurate! They get added points for being generous with condiments and for the warm, foil-wrapped sourdough bread that comes with every meal.
To get to this TLC, take Mopac to the Rollingwood/2244 exit. It's on the south side frontage and shares a parking lot with the equally busy IHOP. Plenty of parking, but get there before noon or you'll be waiting.
Texas Land & Cattle is a Twelve O'Clock Treat.

walked in this restaurant with my family and I hope I never go back. First there was a girl with her back facing the door and she never acknowledged us, eventually another girl came greeted us and took us to our table. The server took about 10 mins to show up and get our drink orders, she finally came, I ordered a diet coke and my boyfriend order a frozen margarita. She brought me a diet pepsi and never mentioned anything about not having coke products. I do not like pepsi, if I had known I would have ordered something else. After that everything was ruined. She took forever with everything. The food was not even that good. My boyfriend ordered the Trout and he literally could not eat, they left all the fat of the fish on the bottom, meaning they never cleaned that fish, and I ordered chicken fried steak which I shared with my boyfriend. The mashed potatoes tasted horrible. The worst part is that the server came at the end of our meal ( we had the credit card on the table already) and saw all the food left over and assumed we wanted a to go box. I honestly do not understand how some places stay in business.
