Terror Fantasies
1 review for Terror Fantasies
Part of Salem's Festival of the Dead, Terror Fantasies is an ephemeral Art Gallery which sets up shop for the month of October in the heart of the main strip. A massive gallery space which once housed a unique and quirky antique shop, boasts a wide variety of eerie art.
Mostly paintings line the walls of this fantastic venue, with extremely high ceilings which make me envious as I would like to have a space like this someday when I open a gallery.
Some of the art was mindblowing, others tended to be a bit kitchy. Like "Dead Girls". I was not impressed. Photography of naked girls drowing in a tub of blood or suffocated in a plastic bag. I am the queen of macabre, but this was just hokey. It was like Suicide Girls amateur hour. To each his own I suppose.
For me, the highlight of the gallery is Nick Demakes "Gentlemen Bats" series. http://www.hellequin.c...
I had purchased one of his pieces last year, which I am ashamed I still haven't found a proper frame for, and had the pleasure of meeting him at Terror Fantasies. I like to give artists credit when it is due, and he is definitely someone whose work is worth checking out.
If you can make it out here before the end of October, do it, it's just a really interesting and neat show with art that you wouldn't normally see at the MFA persay. I don't really think there has traditionally been a place for Dracula portraits in high society, but I could be wrong.
