this was the best hotel i've ever stayed in.
right on the strip in santa cruz, with porch/balcony--with a suite feel.
there's so much about this place.
we got a last minute deal on the room, otherwise its a bit pricey, but no more than any of the other establishments around

I'd like to give this hotel a 2.5 because while not awful, it's not great either. What The Terrace Court has going for it is location. Directly across from the beach and the Bay, within footsteps of The Wharf and the Beach Boardwalk is just down the street.
I recently stayed, off season, on the First Terrace which is closest to the sidewalk. My biggest complaint is that if the hotel is not booked to capacity, spread the people out. There were 3 rooms rented on the First Terrace and we were all crammed together. My second complaint is that if you advertise a No Smoking hotel, then have designated smoking areas! It was my luck to be sandwiched in between two parties that smoked, and while they smoked outside, their smoke drifted in to my room which essentially made it a smoking room!!  UG!!! There's nothing right about this.
I appreciated the beautiful view from the deck, but it's a huge shared deck. If you want any alone time, this is not the place to stay. I constantly felt obligated to socialize with my neighbors when I really just wanted to be alone. Even some sort of low flower pots separating one room's deck from the next would be an improvement.
The room was nice with a fully stocked kitchen including stove, full size 'fridge and small table. Very nice to have. The bed was comfortable enough, but the pillows were the worst ever! I think they were stuffed with hay! Thankfully I remembered to bring my own with me. Why hotels can't provide decent pillows is beyond me! The flat screen TV was nice and there was a wide selection of stations from which to choose. It appears that the rooms were recently remodeled, but i wish they'd included ceiling fans in the room re-do. The only way to get air circulating in the room is if you leave the front door open and I wasn't comfortable doing that since it can't been seen from the main living area of the room. I also wasn't comfortable leaving the patio door open at night, which would have been nice, but since there's a shared balcony that's accessible to anyone that was definitely not going to happen. Since there's no AC, it was pretty warm sleeping at night.
I've stayed at a lot of places in Santa Cruz and hadn't stayed here in a number of years so I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. View and kitchens aside, there are just too many negatives to win my business back.

It was a profound relief to find this place right above the boardwalk for what seemed like a good price given the area.

Our room was large, clean, had a full kitchen, a king size bed and a lovely view and shared balcony overlooking the beach.  The style is definitely a bit outdated but I think that crazy sixties-mod thing is cool.

The walls, my friend, are thin.  You can hear your neighbors tearing off squares of toilet paper in the still of the night . . . almost . . .

Yet it is a fun kind of place with a wonderful location - within view of the beach and within walking distance of downtown Santa Cruz.  It is clean and the rooms are large.  It felt like pure heavan after the ocean echo inn.

This is the best value for a motel with an ocean view in Santa Cruz. The rooms are nice sized with kitchenettes. When the place is not busy you can talk them into some pretty good rates. The patios aren't private, so you might have to deal with a talkative neighbor. They have free WiFi but the service is very slow.

This place is awesome, and the people that work here are so nice. Its family owned and cheaper than staying in a chain motel. The interiors are totally outdated, but it is clean and well taken care of. Book WAY in advance though, they fill up fast.
