Review from J F.
Austin, TX
Good burger, super expensive, awful soggy fries. $13 for a double cheeseburger and large fries.
McDonald's fries would crush theirs, just being honest not pretentious. Will probably be back to get a burger through the drive thru if I'm too lazy to get out of my car and walk into Mighty Fine. -
Review from Trina H.
The meat was fantastic, the rest of the burger was pretty average. I'm a huge fan of their two-fer deals (buy 2 burgers and 2 fries for $9 was the one I tried). This place is great for parents with kids to entertain/feed. My son really enjoys the playground and we like eating under a tree every once in awhile.
Definitely worth a shot if you're a newbie! -
Review from Clint J.
Leander, TX
I'm between a 3 and a 4 on this place.
The quality of meat in the burger was GREAT, however the toppings and everything else was basic. Tasted similar to something you'd cook on your back door barbq.
The ORGANIC black cherry soda was Really good, I'm a Coke fan but it felt good to drink something that may be a little bit healthier.
Fries we're good as well.
I guess what it is about this place is the food is decent but the fact that its "Organic" makes it a bit better.
But at the end of it all I probably won't be back, and the reason is the prices are too high for what you get IMO.
I'll go with a 3. -
Review from Andrew B.
Great burger, but give the customer CHOICES! I love it when a restaurant owner makes a statement like this place does. I find it admirable that all their beef is organic, grass-fed, etc. I do NOT find it admirable that they don't give me a choice on what to drink. House Pizzeria does the same thing with their Italian sodas - they KILL it on the food, then BLOW IT on the beverages. It's all fine and good to use organic beef, but to dictate what beverages your customers can order is a mistake IMO.
Most people I know want a soda with their burger, and it's almost always a Pepsi or Coke product. Terra Burger does not offer those options. You either get one of their organic sodas, or you don't get a soda at all. To be fair, the root beer I had was good, but I wanted a Diet Coke. My daughter wanted a Sprite, but all they had was organic lemon/lime soda. My wife said the smell and flavor of that drink reminded her of a commercial cleaning product. I agreed; it was AWFUL!
Their playground is awesome and will probably be the only reason I ever come back, since my daughter loved it so much. They also have a kids menu, which is a bonus.
Please, if you ever open a restaurant, it's FINE if you want to serve Italian organic sodas, but give your customers CHOICES by also carrying Coke or Pepsi products; preferably both. -
Review from Mark D.
Got a couple of veggie burgers, small order of sweet potato fries and a large Coke. How much? Damn near close to twenty bucks. Was the food good? Absolutely. Was it worth twenty bucks? No.

Review from Kenneth T.
Austin, TX
The hamburger was good, but quite small, and the toppings were scant. At $6, that's a good price for a big organic burger, not so good for a little organic burger. The fries were nice and peppery, and plenty of 'em, only slightly over-cooked.

Cedar Park, TX
Absolutely terra-ble service today. Poor service at the register. 4 tries to get our order correct. 30+ minute wait from order to pickup.
We will be back... Please make an effort next time employees.
The employees were very nonchalant about my daughters extensive 24 food allergies. After requesting this word for word "Adult Meat Patty, plain, no bun, no cheese because of a gluten, corn and cheese allergy" - what we got was a junior burger with all the fixings" hmmm - not ANYTHING like we asked for. She tried to remove the bun saying it was a GF bun - well a GF bun does not work for someone allergic to not just gluten but corn, egg, and dairy.
She had to make my daughters meal 3 times after the first time and this was AFTER the initial 30 minute wait. RIDICULOUS!
Now - I gave it two stars because it is clearly a bad experience from the ignorance of a BAD employee. All other experiences have been fabulous. We will try it again but with caution. If this had been our first trip we would NEVER go back.
Love that Terra Burger has a fabulous playground and shaded areas for the parents. Hope they get rid of their bad egg and we can go back to calling Terra Burger its name instead of Terr-able Burger! -
Review from Rachel B.
Austin, TX
I'm a big fan of this place because
a)It's organic fast food, which is just awesome
b) the outdoor playground and waterpark are really cool, way better than some sticky, mysterious ball pit type play area
c) the sweet potato fries have gotten way better, have had them drenched in oil before
Only negatives are the burgers could be way lighter on the condiments, and one day I ordered a Terra Burger and got a Thousand Island burger instead, it looked pretty withered and it was luke warm, I wondered if the staff didn't feel like cooking a fresh one even though I may have been the only customer there at the time -

Austin, TX
When I first moved to Austin, Terra Burger was my favorite drive-thru... However, over the last couple of years their quality has gotten worse and worse.
Burgers EXTREMELY dry, too much condiment drowned onto it, the sweet potato fries are hit and miss. Sometimes they're cooked nicely, still raw, or over-cooked and burnt. Yuck. The tea has a HORRIBLE bitterness to it, and I know good tea. Milkshakes are funky, but I like the bigger straw!
I finally gave up on their burgers, and made the move to their grilled chicken salad. It's alright but not for what they charge for it.
The wait is absolutely horrific! It should NOT take 20 minutes to get through a drive-thru. -

When we decided to stop there tonight, I wondered why we hadn't been back in a really long time. Now I remember. We had gone a few times when they had opened and we always had an awful experience. The food itself was fine, even tasty, but the employees are either deeply stoned or have just completely checked out - and either way, there's no adult supervision.
This time around, after we specifically asked if the chili was vegan and the cashier had to check with the kitchen, they then put cheese on top of the chili - good thing we checked before leaving the drive-through. And my burger was so badly smushed that it could not be eaten without a spoon. They simply didn't care.
If it were just an occasional problem I'd just say the service was iffy and go 3 or 4 stars - but knowing that every time we order we are going to send it back, is a complete deal killer.
We won't be back.
Looking at the other reviews, our experience is not unique. How is this place still open? Is this a money laundering operation? -

Tasteless and WAY over priced.
Too many good burgers in town to waste your time and money. -

Austin, TX
I really wanted to like this place! It's right around the corner for where I work and I've heard some decent things. But unfortunately, I will not be back.
I ordered a veggie burger and added avocado and jalapenos. I was surprised to see that they charged the same amount to add either avocado or jalapenos. Most places give you break on the jalapenos and jack up the price on the avocado though so, I suppose it evens out.
Honestly, I just really didn't like the flavor of the veggie burger. Something in it was really strong and overpowering..maybe a spice or a pepper or something... I couldn't figure out what it was. I was sad because I really wanted to like it, but the more I ate it, the more "eh" I felt. By the time I was done, I felt almost nauseous. Also, the burger had completely fallen apart when I was just over half done so it got pretty messy.
The fries were ok, but nothing special really. I think if the burger had been better, I would have liked the fries more too but I was depending on the fries to make up for the burger and it just wasn't happening so, maybe my expectations were too high on the fries.
As others have mentioned it's a pretty dangerous little spot. I'm glad they have the play area closed off for the kiddos but it still seems a little high risk...having the drive thru go right across the walk way to the play area. Also, it was a mess trying to get out of the place and I came terrifyingly close to getting into an accident when I was coming out of my parking spot at the same time a car from the frontage road to 183 flew into the driveway coming off of the highway. If I hadn't stopped immediately and if they hadn't slammed on their brakes, we would have had a head on collision and I don't know that either of us would have been at fault as much as the faulty design of the parking lot & driveway.
Granted, I could walk there from where I work which I would choose to do in order to mitigate the risk of driving and parking there, but only if the food was good enough which unfortunately for me, it isn't...especially considering the price. Honestly though, even if it was cheaper, I still wouldn't go there again because I really didn't like the veggie burger...I couldn't quite put my finger on whatever the flavor was that didn't sit well with me, but it was too overwhelming for my tastes.
Also, the guy that took my order acted a little "too cool for school" and didn't seem interested in helping me out as it was my first time there and I shared with him that I had never been there before. His response was pretty much a "yeah, whatever...like I care....order something already". I'm used to poor service these days so I wasn't surprised but I figured it was worth mentioning since it probably does add to my rating. -

My girlfriend likes it a whole lot plus 2
I don't always agree with my girlfriend minus 2 -

Round Rock, TX
What they really have going for them is their meat... bur in every of the following categories they are failing somewhere between somewhat and miserably:
-Sweet potato fries (soggy, flavorless and almost completely unsalted)
-The lemonade was good but ridiculously expensive.
-Order definitely took longer than it should have to prepare (from the look of other reviews this is a solid trend)
-Price to proportion ratio.
However... if you're not into fries and are looking for a smaller size, have some extra time AND cash to burn... the burger itself was very impressively tasty. -

Still not very good.
In fact, I went to Whataburger a couple hours later just to get the TB taste out of my mouth and remind myself what a real burger should feel like.
Probably not a good sign.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Aaryn P.
Cedar Park, TX
We have been meaning to try Terra Burger, after passing it along 183 for a while and decided to stop in tonight, as we didn't want to go to a sit down restaurant because let's face it - it's Friday in Austin...everything is packed... and just wanted to grab something a little better for us than McDonald's. Soooo... we went all the way down 183 from Cedar Park to give it a go.
What I was expecting, was a great homage to Burgerville out of Oregon and Washington - but this place hasn't quite gotten there yet.
We ordered:
1 Terra Burger, Double
1 Chicken Sandwich - Fried
1 Regular Fries
1 Vanilla Cream Soda
1 Green Iced Tea
The burgers were so-so. My chicken burger was flavorful and good, but there was so little of it. The buns were good, and the veggies were fresh. My boyfriend said of his burger, "It was ok, but a little plain." The fries were super squishy. I prefer a mix of squishy and crisp fries..these were all limp. They tasted good, but the texture was just wrong.
The service was quick, but the price was high..we paid just under $23 for this meal, and were left with the feeling that meh..we've had better. I'd like to go back and try their turkey burger at some point - but I'm not all that motivated to go there now, as I wasn't impressed.
What does impress me is that they are local, organic, recycle their oil for biofuels, and are a healthier fast food option - and I like to support all of those causes. I was surprised that they aren't on board with Go Local....odd.
Anyways, two stars is what it is... I believe that if you're going to do something, you should do it well... I like the cause, but it wasn't good. So there you go... -

Overall I would describe Terra Burger as decent. The burgers are good, but nothing fantastic. I like that they're natural and organic and all that, but they're a little expensive for what they are. The fries are usually good, but sometimes they're too greasy and soggy. It's cool they offer sweet potato fries. The playground looks fun and they have a fountain for children (or the young at heart).
I stop by here when I'm in the area and want a decent burger, but the price keeps me from traveling very far. -
Review from Alicia J.
What makes a good burger joint is a completely different monster when you're gluten free. The meat patty was a little too juicy (who knew that was a thing) and, if I had access to every burger place in the world, I don't know that I'd be as nuts about it. However, every burger place in the world doesn't offer a gluten free bun, and the ones who do don't usually offer a *good* gluten free bun. The Kinnikinnick buns they use here are nice and soft, with a buttery flavor and a slight sponginess to them. That's a deal maker, folks.
Also, did I taste a slight smoked flavor in that cheese? Damn, that was good. -

I like the idea of Terra Burger and I used to like the product, but . . .
- the guy taking orders at the window doesn't appear to enjoy his job (neither would I, but his position does necessarily involve dealing with people regularly); and
- unless they got my order wrong and gave me a child's burger from the family that ordered after me, their turkey burger has changed, and shrunken, considerably.
The sweet potato fries are good. -
Review from Noel B.

On previous visits I would have given 4 stars but today something seems to have changed. The burger has almost no flavor and it appears to be pre-cooked and warmed up. The fries were undercooked and very greasy.
Not happy with the meal. -
Review from Nancy R.
Austin, TX
I had a craving for french fries and was very disappointed in Terra Burger. $2.99 for a large order of fries and you'd expect something worth eating. They were so greasy I couldn't even come close to finish eating them. Someone should check the oil temperature of the fryer, because I shouldn't be able to squeeze oil out of the potato by simply picking it up. I won't be going here again. If you're going to charge a premium for your food, at least know how to prepare it properly.
As a follow-up, I received an email from the manager at Terra-Burger offering a chance for them to make it up to me with a free meal. I'm not adverse to giving someplace a second chance when they obviously want to make it right. Will let you know what I think when I go back.
7/24/11 I received an email from the manager per my previous 1 star rating above, offering a comped meal for me to come back and let them make it right.
Well, I went back on Friday and I have to say the fries were WAY better this time around. The burger was a bit dry and overall it was okay, I just probably won't go back again with other better options around the area. So I revised my rating from a 1 to a 2.
The service was mediocre at best - the girl at the window obviously had no idea what was going on with my order, tried to insist first that my order was the wrong one, then that I hadn't ordered at all. Wouldn't have been so bad except she acted like this was all my fault they don't communicate or something. Just plain unfriendly.
I highly recommend going someplace else. -

Wow. People seem to feel very strongly one way or another about this Terra Burger, and the haters are particularly passionate. I can only report on my experience, though, and I still have nothing but love for TB.
After a pass through the Costco gas station for a fill-up, I felt qualified to take one of those "Costco Customer Only" parking spots at around 12:15p on a Monday. There were plenty of empty spots in that lot at this time of day, but I imagine they'd get mad if I tried that during Christmas shopping madness.
This time, I ordered the 3 slider basket with a tiny Terra, tiny Hill Country (to which I added bacon at no additional charge), and tiny 1000 Island burger (which I subbed out with a chili burger, again with no penalty). These little burgers were delicious! The buns fresh and sweet, the pickles and veggies crisp, the condiments flavorful, and the meat, well, meaty. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the onions were a little too much; I prefer sliced to chopped so that I can easily remove them when I find them overpowering, but now that I know, I'll just ask for them on the side next time.
Now the fries. I really cannot understand all of the Yelper reports of soggy, otherwise unsatisfactory fries here, as my order today was potato perfection. Crisp, hot, salty, plentiful, and no weird added flavors like you get at the mass-produced-semi-food purveyors. Then there's the ketchup. Oh so good. I need to get two of those next time.
Service was friendly, accurate, and prompt for me, but they definitely were not slammed. I wonder if some of the negative reviews have come from times when the staff weren't able to keep up with the demands of a "rush."
My earlier review covered all the reasons a tree hugging hippy (and those who love them) should support this local biz. Knowing that the food is real and every bit of the waste from the meal can be recycled or composted is pretty admirable for most restaurants, not to mention a drive though burger joint.
Next time -- chocolate shake, I'm coming for you!
I guess I can't close this update without mentioning again the kid-friendly angle. On this visit, 95% of the other patrons were families with children (during Spring Break week). All I observed seemed to eat & play at TB regularly and clearly appreciated what they're offering.Listed in: Kids Welcome Here!, Riata Lunch, Burgers... Good., Goodbye Flab, Hello Fab!

I ordered a gluten free bun for my burger. Something not resembling a gluten free burger showed up in my bag, after I had gotten back to work. Alright, sometimes it happens. But then I called them to ask (maybe the gluten free buns look different now or something, I don't know, let's sort this out), but they can't be bothered to answer their phone to address my question. So now I don't know whether I can eat my $8 hamburger or not.
That kind of sucks and makes me hate them. -
Review from Carrie S.
I went through the drive-thru at 9pm and ordered 2 burgers and sweet potato fries and regular fries. The burgers were tasty. However, they obviously had given me OLD fries. They were totally cold, greasy and soggy. When fries cost almost $4 I really expect fresh french fries. I had to stick them in the oven when I got home for 15 minutes to crisp them up.. and by that time the burgers were cold. Not a great experience for $20.
It really makes me sad to write a bad review because I LOVE that they have gluten free buns and they're all organic and stuff. Sigh.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Tried out the Veggie burger and I am not a fan. It seemed like any other frozen patty you can buy at HEB. I prefer Elevation Burger's veggie patty by a landslide! The sweet potato fries were blackened (not sure if this was an accident or just the cooking style) and super greasy. Kudos to them for going the organic route but the food doesn't have to be so bad.
We went there also to let our toddler rum around in the play area. I don't know how people eat here in the summer with no indoor area and no place with AC! There is also very little shade over the play structure so we opted to not let our daughter play. We ate and then left.
We won't be back. -

I am going to say that I eat the breakfast tacos from here at least once a week. Its on my way into work, and I can't help but find myself pulling in to get their tasty tacos.
I love that they serve organic, cage free eggs! They are the only eggs that I buy at the grocery store and when it comes to getting some breakfast tacos, you just assume that you're getting the "run of the mill" eggs. But NOT HERE!
Also, their burgers are great. I've had just a regular cheese burger and I thought it was great! I am not sure where the words, "bland and boring" are coming from on here. The lack of preservatives and crap make it taste like a real burger should.
The customer service is amazing! I went there today, not realizing that I was there 30 min before they opened. And they took my order! The manager/owner ( not sure which one) was super sweet to me and didn't seem to mind at all that I was there before hours!
If you're looking for the organic, healthier side of a burger/breakfast tacos, I would def come here!Listed in: Weekly Staples!, Burgers???

Today I decided to splurge on lunch for myself and was craving good for you bad for you food and so decided Terra Burger fit the bill. I went through the drive through and after waiting for 25 minutes (to handle the 3 customers in front of me) reached the window to recieve my order, where I waited another 10 minutes. I ordered fries (reg), a thousand island burger with cheese, and a baby mint chip shake. The shake was awesome and it earned the place a star. The fires were cooked in grease that was the wrong temperature and the burger was luke warm all the way through - including the tomato, shredded lettuce, and onion. Apparently while I was sitting there for 35 minutes, my cheeseburger was sitting there waiting for me. (I'm picky, but a fresh not-warm tomato is one of life's great joys!!!) But there wasn't any cheese! And this is the (not the first, not the second, but the) THIRD time I have ordered a cheeseburger there, dutifully paid my extra $0.89 for cheese and not recieved it. Terra Burger owes me almost $3. Maybe more if you count the fact that a hamburger without cheese really isn't worth eating. So it was such a sad disappointment, yet again. What kills me is that I spent $11 even on a meal that Chickfila next door would have done a far better job on, for far less.

I went to Terra Burger to pick up food for my myself and my co-workers and was very disappointed. I've had a decent burger from here before, but this was my first visit to the restaurant.
I will not be back.
It was several minutes before anyone noticed me at the window - and there was no polite way for me to get anyone's attention.
I was not greeted; the window was thrown open by an employee who just stared at me.
It was almost impossible for me to order because the music was too loud him to hear over me. I had to pas him the post-it notes my co-workers had written their orders on!
His customer service was terrible. I don't enjoy being glared at while I'm trying to order food, nor do I enjoy someone shouting at me to repeat myself over loud, terrible music.
Not only that, but my burger was wrong. Not in a way I could fix with some condiments or scraping something off the bun - I'm allergic to tomato, so when I said 'no ketchup' - I meant no ketchup. I did not get lunch, am out money for the burger.
I won't be going back, either by myself or with a group. -

burger was ok, not legendary or exemplary

I love Terra Burger, but not for the reason it was meant to be loved. More on that later.
My first stop at Terra Burger was "dine-in" which equates to sitting outside since this place is Short Stop style and only has a building for cooking and drive-thru purposes. The shtick TB has is that it uses all organic and natural ingredients. It makes this a better dining experience for some, but I'm not here for the health, I'm here for the meat and bread, baby!
My burger was OK. It was a bit dry, the buns kind of blase, and the fries ... well, let's just say it was like all the fries had just seen their grandma naked and were left a limp mess. To be honest, the ketchup here is fantastic and was what saved the food from being a flavorless mess.
As it has been stated many times before, the prices here are steep which I understand since the ingredients cost more than your average place, I am sure, but keep in mind you are paying for quality of ingredients and not necessarily quality of taste.
For me, I go there for the yogurt. When the health-conscious dude in me wants to run somewhere and get something at least somewhat good for me, I go to Terra and partake in it. The strawberries are ample and fresh, and the yogurt itself tastes incredible. Sometimes I even splurge and get two cups of it.
But, I digress, we're here for the burgers and they're just not that great.
2 stars for the yogurt save.
edit: the owner/manager commented below that they don't have yogurt and haven't had any for two years, but I just moved back to Austin in 2009. If you look at the photos for this place there is a menu with the yogurt granola cup listed, and I was getting that regularly last year.Listed in: Keep it Beefy

Do you know why food at McDonald's isn't organic? Do you know why high fructose corn syrup is used in everything instead of cane sugar? Do you know why Wendy's uses hormone-pumped, grain fed cattle instead of grass-fed grazing cows? Because doing things right is too damned expensive.
Yes, Terra Burger costs more than Burger King. Thank God for that. Some people value what they put in their bodies, and aren't always looking for the cheapest bidder to supply their fuel.
Terra Burger offers up a place for the discerning but lazy diner to grab a quick meal, and for that, I'm grateful. Add in a FABULOUS gluten-free bun, and I'm hooked. The only low note was the sweet potato fries, which I found limp and overcooked, but the service was excellent, the patio charming, and the cane sugar soda delicious.
Keep up the good work, TB, and let the cheapskates waddle on over to Wendy's. -
Review from Stu R.
Terraburger has won the following awards:
- Most expensive drive-through burger in Austin
- Limpist, soggiest, coldest fries
- Best practical joke of handing me a warm aluminum can when I clearly asked for a soda
My burger looked like someone hated it more than I did... it was a total beat-up mess when I unwrapped it. They also committed the fatal flaw of putting the vegetables under the meat patties... WHY WHY WHY do places think this is a good idea? As expected, it was a soggy, nasty mess by the time it got home.
I'm no eco-warrior, and I really don't care if my food is organic or genetically engineered by some evil vegetable baron. Terra Burger's whole organic spiel is completely wasted on me, but I was willing to pay the higher prices if the food was awesome. Bad news, it ain't. -

I was not very impressed with this place. First, it is way overpriced. I payed close to $13 for one burger, an order of sweet potato fries, and two drinks. I was extremely disappointed with the sweet potato fries which were soggy, absolutely no crunch to them, and the burger really wasn't that great.
On the positive side, the staff members were all very friendly. This could be a fun spot if you have children as they have a splash pond and a trolly to sit in and eat your food near the playground. That was probably the highlight of this outting....unfortunately, I don't have any kiddos! Finally, if you want organic food, this is a great place to dine as their food and drinks are all organic!
Overall it just wasn't my cup of tea, it's not likely that I will go back. -

So I tried Terraburger 2 times BC and AC(before cialiacs and after cialiacs). Their burgers are pretty tasteybot times, however they aren't amazing, they very much taste like like homemade burgers. They are pretty thick and meaty, not thin like most restaurants. They are also a bit tough.
Their shakes are good, but thick and their fries are very tasty, fresh cut but very oily. All the food tastes very simple and home made, not saying thats good or bad, just stating it.
So their gluten free bun is not good, not really at all. Obviously gluten is what holds baked goods like buns together, so I usually expect my gluten free buns to be a little drier and more likely to fall apart than a gluten filled bun. Tees buns fin that to a T, the bun fell completely apart on the first bite. It basically was a horrible mess in my lap for the rest of the meal. The pieces of the bun that made it to my mouth were not especially tasty either.
Also, my wife ordered a burger and they, I kid you not, forgot to put the burger in it. She didn't order anything complex or crazy just a burger, and they forgot the main ingredient, the meat. I guess that old lady from the Wendy's commercials may have been to terra burger previously...where is the beef indeed. -

I do appreciate that there is a place that I can get a burger or chicken sandwich and have it taste like real food. It's more expensive, but I don't mind at all. Heck, I can even get a soda from here I can drink (calorie free, caffeine free). The fries taste like real potatoes and not "potato food product". The playscape and area around it makes for a nice place to eat lunch.
Why only 3 stars? The burgers... while they do taste like good quality burgers... just aren't all that good. Elevation burger's food blows them away. The chicken sandwiches are pretty decent and so are the fries, but with Elevation right across the freeway, cheaper, and better - I don't know how often I'll frequent this place.
I definitely wouldn't complain about going back. 'Specially if I want a chicken sandwich. -

I found Terra Burger behind Costco north parking lot while getting tire service. This a drive thru with a very cool play area.Kids were having a great time splashing in the fountain. Walk up customers order outside and eat outside. This is not bad as they have shade provided by a large oak tree inside the kids zone.
The Terraburger was big enough and flavorful enough for my taste. The fries on the other hand were small and overcooked. Grass fed organic beef is a nice change from standard fast food fare . I had an ice green tea which was quite refreshing.
The fountain and playground are a nice plus for parents looking for cool
kid fun. Organic ice cream and milkshakes make for an outing. The Terra burger comes fully loaded with mustard mayo ketchup pickles etc.
too much stuff for me. Order the way you like. I did not try the sweet potato fries, sounds like a good idea if they can get them out of the fryer in time.
The main drawback to this location is the lack of indoor seating. They do offer restrooms which were kept clean. A good spot for a quick lunch
while doing the Costco boogie.
