They may have taken out the vintage Street Fighter arcade games and replaced them with a flat screen TV and ridiculous, uncomfortable high seating, but it's alla bout those damned shaved ices. GO NOW.

I have so many fond memories of being a high schooler and coming here after a church or social event… Read more »
This place gets 5 stars from me because of their super soft and best shaved ice!! I usually order the kreme...and it is yummmyyyy! The food is so/so, service can be slow but the shaved ice is so worth coming here!
come only for the shave ice. everything else isn't that great.

I would give this place five stars IF and only IF I could rate the restaurant solely based on their shaved ice.
So here are the pro's:
This is such a great local place. You walk in and you know the patrons are regulars.
Shaved ice is seriously ridiculous. I usually get strawberry with creme. I would literally get this once a week during hs...during college, I would buy one before driving down to UCI and grab one on the way up from school.
It's a mom and pop place so it just has a great feel to it. You walk in and you feel like you're so far far away...it feels slower and peaceful...As if you're really at a stop in Hawaii
Semi-Cons:
The food isn't the BEST but it's still good for a pit stop
The wait may be somewhat long for shaved ice...BUT it's seriously worth it :)
Honestly, I have only eaten one menu off the item but it was awful!! I ordered the teriyaki beef bowl and I don't know if someone messed up on the recipe that day but it was literally as sweet as candy. I think a teriyaki bowl is a pretty standard menu item and not too difficult to make so I was pretty disappointed. Needless to say, I will not be going back. The fact that everyone says their shaved ice is so awesome is irrelevant; i don't like the stuff anyways.
I have not had their shaved ice, my experiences here are with noodles, burgers and beef plates.
The ordering process: Good so far.
The wait: Too long, one reason I avoided this place whenever I can.
The food: The Burgers were flavorful enough, nothing to complain about
except it seemed a tad smallish.
As for the Saimin noodles, I'd never order that again at the place.
The Beef plate looked appearing but the taste couldn't match the
appeal sort of speak.
If the food was dirt cheap it might be forgivable but for the price I couldn't help but think I was jipped somehow.
The shave ice is good. The teri beef plate is good (I agree, the chicken plate--not so fantastic). The beef plate is better than the Local Place. Haven't had their saimin (actually I think I have) but there are so many noodle places around, save your money for the places that specialize in that.
They changed things around recently...got rid of the old video game consoles, reorganized...I think it had been showing it's age, but it's up and running again...go on a hot day in the middle of the afternoon, and the line is out the door.
Great place to go with your kids too--the beef plate is enough for two small kids to share, and then shave ice afterwards! Everybody wins!

Shave ice=good (get it with vanilla ice cream). It used to come in one size--big. Now it comes in skinny Styrofoam cups, and when I ask for rainbow, it comes out brown (but maybe it was a bad day for sno cone lady). It's under relatively new management, but trusty old cook still works there, so all your favorites still taste the same.
The shaved ice is as soft as fresh snow. It's one of the best shaved ice places on the main land. No kidding. you will not find ice shards here. They've got about 20 flavors of syrup to choose from including exotic flavors such as Lychee, Lilikoi and Li Hing Mui. I'm a creature of habit , so I gotta get the watermelon and bubble gum syrup every time I'm in the area. Oh and I usually order it with vanilla ice cream. I love that as you get to the bottom of the cup all the flavors mix together into a fusion milk shake. If you're old school, you can also order your shaved ice with azuki beans.
The teriyaki and other food are good but a lil bit heavy for me. If I eat the food, I've gotta prepare my stomach. (don't ask me how.)
They are also known for their sides. I've seen a lot of people order their potato salad.

The food here is pretty tasty, but the real reason to go is the shave ice. As kiddies, we would ride our bikes to their old location and chow down on the shave ice on those hot summer days. Now we play golf and then head over and still get the shave ice (usually rushing as they close early)... Delicious! Get the version with ice cream on the bottom.

Best shave ice around! And it's really shave ice, not that granulated crap. The Teri Chicken plate is great as well. The chicken is moist n not overcooked. The only downfall: more mac salad!

Ok So I met my first love here. And the girl serving it was cute too. you gotta love the shaved Ice. Closest thing to Matsumotos in Hawaii.
I had a strawberry/lime/orange shaved ice and it came nice and fluffy on the outside with all of the good stuff nicely packed on the inside. This is sweet. As Kendo kept getting brain freeze, Emily and I just took our time munching away and enjoying this feast. Place was packed with friendly locals and it will do so for years to come.

Today was a good day. Decision. Decisions. Tropical, Rainbow, Bubblegum, Strawberry, Strawberry with Vanilla ice cream, or Banana shaved ice. Today the Strawberry with Vanilla Ice cream, Tomorrow the Bubblegum.
Life is good!

After reading all the buzz about their shaved ice online and hearing about them from my aunty, I finally ventured into Teri Hawaii last week. To this day, I've been there 4 times since, the shaved ice is addicting. The hype was right for once. Their shaved ice is so incredibly soft, I couldn't believe it. I've been a long time fan of shaved ice, but always seem to get the hard crunchy kind wherever I go (even at obon's), so it was refreshing to have such fluffy shaved ice for once. I can eat the entire serving by myself no problem. Bubble gum will always be my favorite flavor, it's the kid in me. Teri Hawaii's lychee and lilikoi flavors were pretty to-die-for as well. I only wish they had condensed milk was an option for a topping, then I'd be set.
Their kalua pig wasn't anything to brag about, it was forgettable, but I did enjoy their macaroni salad. Whenever I try a new Hawaiian place, I always make sure to get macaroni salad, and there aren't many places that get it right. But I would definitely come back and just order it as a side.
I love that this place is in my neighborhood. It's nice that you can take it to go as well, but if you want a huge helping, get it for there.
The food stinks here. The prices aren't bad, but the portions are small and not that great. Most of the workers are friendly, but there's this one girl who's always there and she's not...I try avoiding her, but it's hard. The only thing that saves this place is the shaved ice. The ice is light and flavors are decent, but they could have more variety.

Food is gross, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Actually, if I had to chose between their food and dog food, I'd pick dog food. BUT!!! I love the shaved ice! OMG it is like snow! So GOOD!
NO stars for the food but 5 stars for the shaved ice. Rounded up to 3 stars!
I just can't order anything here except for the beef teri plate. There's nothing else that compares... I could use a plate right now!

you know what, i could have sworn the food was a lot better than this. i think it's been at least 3-4 years since i've eaten here. but i agree the shaved ice is still worth getting!

Teri hawaii! Great small place for a quick lunch! \
Great Plate teri lunches!
popular for their "Saimin Bowls and Shave Ice"
To me, on of da best place to chill and have great saimin!
so far ..the best Shave Ice .......aside being in hawaii.
"soft.....powdery...........can add ice cream, or diff kine stuffs!
Also sell cds heh
Great place to come for shaved ice. Creamy, icy, sweet...yummy on a hot Torrance summer day. There are also plate lunches and other goodies.
After one too many meals at L&L, Back Home @ Lahaina, and the other big chains, I decided to give this old school plate lunch place a try. The little guys need love too after all they're responsible for bringing island grinds to da mainland...
But oh what a mistake!!! The chicken teriyaki plate was awful. Nasty chicken bits and cold teri sauce. Even the mac salad was inedible. They also give you a tiny cup of pineapple pieces but it's straight out of a Dole can. The rice was the only thing edible. How can a plate lunch be this bad???
I was honestly sad that the meal was so unbelievably bad. This place could be so much more if they cared a little bit about putting out a good product.
Reading the other reviews I wish I tried the shave ice, but after the teri chicken I was afraid to.
There's only one reason that I go to Teri-Hawaii- shaved ice. mmm. Tropical with ice cream.
The food is so so.

I used to rate this place at 4 stars. Now I give them ONE star and only because the shave ice is excellent. However their so called manager is horrible. She looks new...at least I've never seen her before, but she is absolutely rude. I found out from other friends that they've gotten the same rude treatment from the same girl last week. I tried to call and speak to the owner, but the she answered the phone and said she was the manager and that the owners are hardly ever in. It's a shame 'cuz this place used to be known for it's local style hospitality and this girl seems to be ruining it for them. Wish there was some way the owners could find out about this so they were aware that they had the wrong person running their business. My friends have already mentioned that they'll be going to the local place for their shave ice & food...I think I'll do the same.

Came here late last month. Walk inside and it was dirty. Well it wasn't that dirty but when you have flies buzzing around and sticky tables its dirty in my book. We order the shave ice, I had the rainbow while Willa choose Lime. The amount they give you is allot for the price you pay for. The time to make it was taking a little to long. Overall we'll come again.
I live in Texas but, whenever I make it back to CA I head to Teri's. I love their Saimin. I believe I also bought boiled peanuts there. Shave ice, manapua, plate lunch. Heaven! Definately a great place to have lunch.
When I walked into this place, the first thing I noticed was how dirty it was inside. Tables were dirty. Trash cans were full and near to point of spilling out. There was a fairly large puddle of water (I assume it was water) on the ground near the counter. Despite all of this, I still placed an order. What a big mistake!
I ordered the Teri Chicken Plate and a soda. As I waited for my food, I noticed all of the customers in their were eating the shaved ice. Nobody had food. I figured after my meal I would order some shaved ice as well and began deciding which flavor I would order.
After a bit of a wait (too long in my opinion), I received my food. The chicken looked like it had been sitting for a long time. It was kind of brownish and the teriyaki sauce was kind of gelatinous-looking (similar to "soup skin").
I proceeded to eat. It tasted about as bad as it looked. The teriyaki sauce was the only thing that had any flavor. The chicken was very chewy. The potato-mac salad didn't have any flavor. And the scoop of green salad didn't taste very fresh, but it was hard to tell because it was drenched in Thousand Island dressing (no choice was given for the type of dressing). Also, the meal came with a tiny jell-o shooter (no booze). No complaints about the jell-o. And to top it off, a little green "starlight" after dinner candy, which tasted like it was a couple of years old (I had to spit it out after a minute).
Even the soda was awful. I got a Diet Pepsi and it was flat.
As for the shaved ice, I didn't try it. After the disgusting food and atmosphere, I didn't feel these guys deserved any more of my money. They had already swindled $8+ from me for that crappy food.
This was my first and last time eating here. I would not recommend it at all. If you are in the mood for teriyaki chicken with rice, go to Teri's Place, also, on Artesia, just a couple of miles west. Much better food and the prices are better.
