We haven't been here in a while because we felt that it went downhill a bit and started catering to fattening american-style sushi (i.e. fried with mayonnaise...soon they'll serve fries and giant sodas with each roll). Wife and I visited last night though and were quite pleased. It seems like they upped their game in order to compete with the recent influx of new, simple, reasonably priced sushi choices in the area. When they first opened there were only one or two other spots in Allentown.
Last night we each ordered a house salad and one roll. Whitehouse roll for me...seaweed salad and cucumbers inside and white tuna outside... Mountain Fuji roll for the wife... Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado inside, tobiko outside. Both rolls were great and very big. We didn't finish either. Food plus two beers each and a bottle of Nigori was $61. -

I came here for drinks only with a few of my girlfriends. I must start this review by noting that I am not a Hibachi fan. That said, I thought that the decor, and service (ie very friendly bar tender) were a cut above other Hibachi places I have been to. Friend of mine says the food is decent here, and with it near her house, she can't be the convenience.
My drink was decent and fresh - a banana margherita. Others seemed satisfied with their drinks as well. Jeers for no happy hour specials though. Overall ok, no real complaints but I won't go rushing back. -

First went to Teppan 5 years ago when I moved into the Lehigh Valley. While the rolls are creative and different, I found that the sushi was not always fresh and the service was lacking. After a couple of times, with similar results, I stopped going.
Yesterday, for some unknown reason, I decided to head over and have dinner, thinking that it HAS been several years, and things MUST have changed by now. I was wrong.
Now, dinner was not bad. The rolls were delicious and most of the sashimi tasted fresh. However, as a restaurant that serves raw fish, I expect ALL their fish to taste fresh, not only some. But again, the rolls were tasty and dinner was not bad.
But let's get to the real problem - the service. Our waiter took our order and then disappeared. Twenty minutes later, still no sign of him, and no sign of our first course - a simple house salad. We flagged down a neighboring waitress, who went on to get our water for us and periodically checked up on us. As for our waiter? He came by, plunked our food down, and left again, before we could even ask him for plates. Each time we needed something (plates, water, service, etc), he was nowhere to be found. Our neighboring waitress came to check on us a couple of times, in between her customers, but no sign of our waiter, except the two times he came by to drop food off. We couldn't even find him to tell him that he took our orders wrong and that we got the wrong food. Plus don't get me started on the missing manager, after we decided our situation should be escalated.
Needless to say, I left a very tiny tip - $5 - with an extremely long note on the back of the receipt, stating exactly the reason for the small tip. In hindsight, I shouldn't have even left a tip, since a tip is gratuity for service, and we got anything but.
Bottom line: Liked the food, mostly, but will not be going back there, not even 5 years from now. Should I lose my mind and become tempted, I will re-read my review and remind myself that terrible service was the reason I stopped going 5 years ago, and 5 years later, the waiters are different, but the service is still the same - terrible. Why go out to dinner and pay for aggravation? -

Teppan is absolutely my new favourite place to eat. The atmosphere is amazing, there wasn't a thing that i didn't love about this place. There are several different areas to sit at, including a sushi bar, a cocktail bar & the hibachi tables.
The hibachi is not only delicious, but incredibly entertaining & fun. You get to see the chef cook right in front of you, while he tells jokes, sings songs, flips vegetables for you to catch in your mouth & makes onion volcanoes which he sets on fire. It's phenomenal to watch, we had a FANTASTIC time.
The courses for dinner were priced reasonably for what you get, including soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried or white rice, vegetables, main course & a dessert. The sake was delicious, I would go back JUST for sake bombs (you're served a bottle of japanese beer, some sake & a pair of chopsticks. You pour some of the beer into a glass, place the chopsticks into a "V" shape on the top of the glass & then balance the shot glass on the chopsticks. Then, pour some sake into the shot glass & bang your fists onto the table so the sake falls into the glass, then drink it as a shot. It's amazing, try it!).
Last night was my first time at Teppan & I have already recommended it to everyone I live with & several friends.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Tried this place after finding out that our favorite sushi place had closed up. Sushi was not the greatest. Avocada in roles was really big and hard as a rock. Place was very loud and felt like you were eating in factory. If you are into the whole hibachi thing, then maybe this place is for you.

I've been going to Japanese restaurants more often now but this is the first one in this area that I had gone to a couple years back. I went for drinks and a meal during the evening time. The atmoshphere is very clean and somewhat retro. I'm not sure what was going on the the decor but it came together in an odd kind of way.
My food was really good and the staff was somewhat cordial. I'm really not sure if it was the company I was with or maybe the waitress had a genuine discontent for me but everytime she brought a plate or drink over to me she'd drop it onto the table in front of me. I didn't really think much of it until the last time she brought my drink and it spilled onto the table and some got on my shirt. I didn't say anything but the waitress had a very smug look on her face. I hadn't been back since then and I've been to other places in the area that are far more friendly...
So the food was good, but a star is lost because of Ms. Butterfingers. -

Since last review in Sept, we no longer go to Teppan. Food takes long even for a Japanese restaurant. The staff is disorganized, confused, and unwelcoming. After you wait an hour for takeout, you'll find out they also raised their prices.
